1) Medieval Ghana, also known as the Ghana Empire, existed from the 8th to 13th centuries in West Africa and was located approximately 500 miles north of present-day Ghana. 2) The empire began in the 8th century under the leadership of Dinga Cisse and lasted until about 1076 AD. 3) The rulers of the empire were called "Ghanas" and the empire was known for its gold trade, though it eventually declined as traders moved to other kingdoms, weakening Ghana.

2. Ghana Historical Medieval Ghana (4 th – 13 th century) is named after the medieval Ghana empire of West Africa. The actual name is Ouagadougou. Ghana was the title of the kings who ruled the kingdom. Geographically the old Ghana was approximately 500 miles north of the present Ghana, and occupied the area between Rivers Senegal and Niger. Up until Ghana was known to much of the world as the Gold Coast. Gold Coast was later adopted by English colonists. For most of central Sub-Sahara Africa, agricultural eventually giving rise to village settlements.

Date the Empire existed The kingdom of Ghana began in the eighth century, and more specifically existed during the following period. 750 – 1076 A.D There is not certainty about Ghana’s origin, but at the beginning of the first millennium AD a group of tribes of the Soninke people came together under Dinga Cisse’s leadership.

5. Religion Ghana did not have a religion like the common religion today. They emperor, whom they worshipped, was called the Ghana. They also worshipped the Buda's Sea of the Niger.( It was known as the biggest river) Ghana allowed Muslims to live in their empire and help them with the government and advice on legal matters, but every few converted to Islam.

7. Good Trade Over time traders and merchants alike began to move out of Ghana into other kingdoms. With the loss of their trade, Ghana grew weak and unable to hold its empire together. After about 700 years of glory, Ghana collapsed.

8. The kingdom is known for other part of the world as the “kingdom of gold”. Until relatively recently it was assumed that the proximate cause of its demise was a attack in 1076 of Berber Almoravids, who was sacked the capital, Koumbi Saleh, and thereby dealt a terminal blow to the coherency of the empire.
