ha individuato 250 gesti diversi utilizzati dagli italiani.
Perché gli italiani gesticolano tanto?
1° Teoria
I gesti italiani sono giunti in Sicilia e
nel sud d’Italia da coloni ed esploratori greci.
Grande somiglianza tra i gesti italiani e quelli
raffigurati nelle pitture degli antichi greci.
2° Teoria
Gli italiani hanno sviluppato una
forma alternativa di
comunicazione tra il XIV e il XIX
secolo, quando vivevano sotto
l’occupazione di altri popoli come
spagnoli, austriaci e francesi. I gesti
avrebbero permesso loro di
comunicare senza essere capita dagli
invasori.
3. Molti gesti simbolici si usano in tutta Italia, più o meno con lo stesso significato. Ma anche in questo
sistema di comunicazione vi sono variazioni regionali. Innanzitutto vi sono alcune regioni più ‘gestuali’,
come la Campania e la Sicilia, ed altre meno, come la Sardegna dell’entroterra. I gesti, inoltre, sono stati
catalogati secondo la loro funzione e, così come nel linguaggio verbale, operano varie figure retoriche:
metafora, sineddoche, ironia, iperbole ecc.
