SURFAC® Implementation and Results
Background
SPH (gasoline) was historically present in five monitor wells. SPH ranged from
0.01 to 0.98 feet in five monitor wells during six EFR® events conducted from May
2006 to April 2009, covering an area of approximately 5,000 square feet.
Hydrogeology
Groundwater is present in saprolite, consisting of various amounts of silt, sand,
and clay, at depths of approximately 30 to 35 feet below grade.
SURFAC® Treatability Study
• A SURFAC® treatability study identified and optimized the concentrations
of the most compatible surfactant/electrolyte mixture and application
volume.
• The study also verified that EcoVac ’ s Formulated Surfactant was
compatible with the site groundwater.
SURFAC® Implementation
• A single SURFAC® application was conducted at the subject site from
June 7 to 11, 2010 (5 field days).
Results and Conclusions
SPH was not detected at the site following SURFAC® implementation.
No Further Action Required (NFA) was achieved at this site.
Background
SPH (diesel fuel) was historically present in seven monitor wells ranging in
thicknesses from 0.01 to 2.74 feet. SPH thicknesses have been very erratic at this
site due to the possibility of “trapped” SPH being liberated during water table
fluctuations. Previous remediation efforts were unsuccessful, including excavation
activities and four mobile dual-phase extraction events conducted by another
provider.
Hydrogeology
Groundwater is present in saprolite, consisting of various amounts of silt, sand,
and clay, at depths of approximately 15 to 22 feet below grade.
SURFAC® Implementation
• EFR® and SURFAC® pilot test events were conducted on January 10,
2007, October 22, 2007, November 13, 2007, and January 23, 2008.
• These events were conducted at the site to
1. Achieve contaminant removal
2. Reduce the aerial/vertical extent of the plumes
3. Determine the surfactant injection volumes/locations/sequence
4. Determine the duration of the surfactant injection/capture events.
• A single SURFAC® application was conducted at the subject site from
August 18 to September 19, 2008 (six field days).
Results and Conclusions
SPH was not detected at the site following SURFAC® implementation.
No Further Action Required (NFA) was achieved at this site.
