Histopathology is the diagnosis and study of diseases of tissues under a microscope. A histopathology laboratory is specially designed to diagnose tissues as malignant or benign through microscopy and immunohistochemistry. It consists of units for biopsy collection, grossing, fixation, decalcification, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and slide storage. Key equipment includes automated tissue processors, embedding stations, microtomes, incubators, water baths, grossing stations, cryostats, and microscopes. Storage and supplies such as containers, slides, and chemicals are also needed.
