Educational vs. Entertainment

Learning or acquiring knowledge, which would be continuously processed to produce
another idea, will always be a part of our life. But, as we all know, there are a lot of ways on
how people learn. As time passed by, lots of ways have been developed to approach learning in
effective ways so as to answer the needs of each individual. Nowadays, one of the most popular
ways to acquire knowledge is through the use of multimedia. Multimedia has been a great help
because it has made the scope of each discussion more interesting. It has made it easier for
learners to visualize and understand the things which would normally be just read on a plain
textbook. And so, lots of companies have started to adapt the new trend of learning which is
through the use of media. They have developed educational games with a specific subject that
would aide the user in learning.
My partner and I were assigned on finding an instructional CD of math in preschool.
After running the program I have therefore concluded that it is educational and at the same
time it is entertaining. The developers of the instructional CD must have thought that learning
could be done in a fun way. The game has used media effectively which I think would really
catch the interest of its target audience. The game has discussed math through colorful objects
that preschoolers commonly know. It also has easy controls which makes it more useful because
it does not need that much parental supervision. Lastly, it has good sound effects. The audio is
clear that would certainly be loved by preschoolers. So as I can see, the game is very educational
and entertaining.
If it were to be localized, I think there would be a few changes. One is the objects that
would be used as examples should be more of the things that would interest Filipino
preschoolers. Also the audio would be better if it would come in two languages. In doing so, it
could make the user have the option on what language to use in learning math.
