asbestos exposure is at or above
the PEL or EL for workers who
are, or may be exposed to
asbestos.

Proper hazard communication
with warning signs containing
specified language in areas that
have exposures above the PEL or
EL is necessary. No smoking,
eating, or drinking should occur in
these areas and proper PPE must
be provided and used to prevent
exposure.

As part of the requirements for the NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC), candidates are
required to undertake a health and safety inspection of part of a workplace and to write a report to
management detailing the findings and recommendations. Full details of the procedures, including the
selection of a suitable area, will be provided during the course but, in brief, the requirements are that:
• The health and safety practical application takes place within 7 days before and after of the
date of the written papers;
• The practical is to be completed at the students own workplace. Those without a workplace
will be assisted by the Training Provider.
• The time allowed to complete the assessment is not restricted but candidates should aim to
complete the inspection and the report in two hours.
• The practical application may be submitted in the candidate’s own handwriting or be word
processed;
• Candidates do not require supervision when carrying out the practical application but the
candidate must sign a declaration that the submission is their own work. (Page 2 of this
document). If this declaration is not submitted the candidate’s result may be declared void. A
signature can be electronic or can be faxed.
The submission must include:
• Completed observation sheets covering a number and range of hazards and good practice,
identifying suitable control measures and timescales;
• An introduction and executive summary;
• Main findings of the complete inspection;
• Conclusions which summaries the main issues identified in the candidate’s workplace
• Completed recommendations table

Risk: Combustible material exposed to spark. Consequence: Explosion and fatality. Immediate Action: Remove combustible material atleast 5 meter radius from hotwork activities as far as reasonably practicable. Long Term Action: Provide proper storage for the chemical materials. Immediate. 1 week. 5) Hazard: Poor posture while performing hotwork task. Risk: Consequence: Low back pain and muscle strain Immediate Action: Provide mobile work platforms, such as scissors lifts. Long Term Action: Redesign workstations and work areas to eliminate reaching, bending, or other awkward postures. Immediate. 2 months. 6) Hazard: Workers are not securely hook body harness. Long Term Action: Separate the pedestrian walkaways and close supervise about the confined space activity. Immediate. 1 day. 8) Hazard: The workers exposed to high frequency of noise source from the heavy machinery. Risk: Exposed to noise pollution. Consequence: Hearing problems i.e hearing impairment Immediate Action: Ask the workers to avoid to stay too near with the noise source when necessary. Consequence: Severe burn and health effect Immediate Action: Asked the worker to wear suitable and approve PPE Long Term Action: Chemical exposure monitoring and training to the workers that expose to chemical material. Immediate 2 months 11) Hazard: Unsafe distance of combustible material. Risk: Fire and explosion. Consequence: Severely increase the burning rate of combustible material. Immediate Action: Move the combustible chemical to a safe distance by either a minimum distance of 20 feet (6.1 m) or a barrier having a fire- resistance rating of 30 minutes. Long Term Action: Conduct awareness regarding safe distance with the chemical materials at the work place and supervise the workers. Immediate. 1 month. 12) Hazard: Overloading sockets inside the office. Risk: Fire and explosion. Consequence: Body injury and property damage Immediate Action: Disconnected all unused electrical appliaces. Long Term Action: Provide extension cords to the workers at the office. Immediate Action: Allow extra journey time and breaks where required, to allow for bad weather, traffic congestion, etc. Long Term Action: Provide co-driver as a second driver during the journey for work rotation systems. Risk: Asbestos fibers can then be inhaled without knowing and trapped in the lungs. Consequence: Chronic lung disease Immediate Action: Monitoring necessary to detect if asbestos exposure is at or above the PEL or EL for workers who are, or may be exposed to asbestos. Long Term Action: Proper hazard communication with warning signs containing specified language in areas that have exposures above the PEL or EL is necessary. No smoking, eating, or drinking should occur in these areas and proper PPE must be provided and used to prevent exposure. Immediate. 1 week

Name of candidate: Harith Daniel bin Shahir Course Ref: C0008(b) As part of the requirements for the NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC), candidates are required to undertake a health and safety inspection of part of a workplace and to write a report to management detailing the findings and recommendations. Full details of the procedures, including the selection of a suitable area, will be provided during the course but, in brief, the requirements are that: • The health and safety practical application takes place within 7 days before and after of the date of the written papers; • The practical is to be completed at the students own workplace.
