Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining that is commonly triggered by infection with H. pylori bacteria or viral infections. Other irritants like alcohol, cigarette smoke, corticosteroids, aspirin, and NSAIDs can also damage the stomach lining and cause gastritis.
