This document discusses the challenges of traditional application performance monitoring (APM) tools and introduces a new generation of APM that is driven by end-user experience. It outlines four trends driving complexity in applications across edge, cloud, and data centers. It also describes five pillars of the new APM approach: 24/7 transaction monitoring, performance analytics, end-user perspective, lifecycle by design, and rapid time to value. Finally, it shares some real-life customer stories and highlights key industries and companies that use Compuware's APM solutions.
Strategic Meetings Management the future of today?Regus
A new room-booking tool from Regus and Condeco could save businesses almost two hours a week in the time it takes to find and arrange external meeting rooms.
The easy-to-use software app allows companies to book rooms all over the world in minutes. Given that, at present, they can spend almost 2 hours phoning room providers, and managing and processing quotes,[1] the solution can save users a huge amount of time during the year.
The partnership between Regus, the world’s leading provider of flexible workspaces, and Condeco brings together Regus’s global network of workspaces and Condeco’s room-booking software. Businesses that find their own internal meeting rooms are already booked or not suitable can immediately access Regus’s network of more than 5,000 meeting rooms and 1,000 video communication facilities at over 1,200 business centres in 95 countries, courtesy of its partnership with Condeco.
The app lets users book space from their mobile phone or tablet when working on the move. The one-click system also removes the language barriers that staff may face when they try to book meeting space in a different country.
Simon Hunt, Global Product Director e-Trading at Regus, comments: “If you only book one external meeting room a week because your own meeting space is booked, you can spend an average of nearly two hours booking that room, according to BDRC.
“Add up the time savings from this new tool over the year, and it could save you around 90 hours annually - that’s around 12 working days a year that you could spend on more useful activities.”
Pervez Gibbs, Head of Marketing, UK and North America, Condeco, adds: “This exciting partnership between Condeco and Regus comes from both organisations’ understanding of how to help businesses operate more efficiently. The result is a product that will save businesses of all sizes many hours a year, and enable them to use their time better. By giving them greater clarity over their meeting room use and expenses, it will also help them track and control spending better – a valuable tool when every business is seeking greater efficiency.”
A critical factor to many of the organizations today is to have access to LOB applications they rely upon in office, while away. By integrating web applications with Dynamics AX, one can create mobile solutions exactly tailored to their business requirements and compatible with most of the smartphones in vogue. The webinar enlightened the participants about Microsoft’s mobility solutions which are role-tailored and task-oriented and an ideal solution for field sales representatives and mobile employees who are always on the move and work in remote locations.
Enterprises need a cloud aware infrastructure monitoring software to monitor physical, virtual and private cloud server infrastructure. OpManager helps you monitor all these from a single pane of glass.

This with ultimate goal of providing the audience a framework for designing and building a web performance dashboard. The session will cover the following 3 items:
Design guidelines: What defines a web performance dashboard? How to make sure it’s actionable and for people to actually use it on day to day basis?
Data collection: Why performance data? The various ways there are to collect data (e.g. synthetic versus RUM data, Webpagetest, Mobile) and how to correlate the different types of data and tools
Building the dashboard: How to build the actual dashboard, providing an overview of the tools/techniques used
At the end of the workshop you will be able to design and build your own dashboard based on the framework provided, or to optimize the current dashboards within your organization.
Are Your Applications Delivering What Your End-Users Expect?Compuware APM
The end user experience is a critical pillar of application performance management. It requires a global view that tracks the path of an application from data center through the Internet, and all the way to "the last mile" of delivery to the end user's computer or device.
Although a well-established discipline, traditional application performance management approaches provide highly silo'ed views of application delivery to the end user. A full picture requires breadth and depth, and a view of the full business impact.
Featured speakers, Tony Baer, Senior Analyst from independent research firm Ovum, and Compuware APM CTO Steve Tack to show:
• Why traditional monitoring doesn’t tell the full story
• The top 5 APM best practices
• How to build your APM roadmap: applying best practices and creating your performance journey

Companies that have adopted DevOps Best Practices have 2555x faster lead times* in delivering new features to their end users. However, speed of delivery is not the only success metric! Success must also be measured on how end-users react to the speed of innovation.
Getting insights into how your end-users react to the changes you deploy allows you to share valuable feedback to the Dev and Biz teams. The teams can then see clearly how their changes impacted end-users and where fine tuning can improve infrastructure performance.
In this webcast Andreas Grabner, Chief DevOps Activist, and Brian Chandler, Systems Engineer, share practical tips that IT groups can start to implement quickly. You'll learn:
• Best approach for monitoring end-user mobile versus desktop versus tablet versus service end-points
• How to evaluate network bandwidth requirements by app, service and feature; to better understand and optimize resource consumption
• How to optimize your delivery chain in depth by understanding who is using your app, where, and on what device
• Clear view on which features are being used the most, the least, and what kind of behavior can be observed that is useful in tuning performance
If you are stuck in analysis paralysis, get insights that you can apply today!
*In addition, companies using DevOps are two times more likely to exceed profitability, market share and productivity goals (from the State of DevOps report by Puppet Labs 2016)

DevOps monitoring: Feedback loops in enterprise environmentsJonah Kowall
This presentation was given at TopConf Tallinn in May 2015.
Title: Driving the DevOps feedback loop in the Enterprise
Description (brief overview for marketing purposes, max. length 400 characters-about 65 words):
DevOps requires feedback loops backed by consistent data, within enterprises many layers of tools make visibility a challenge. This session outlines modernizing monitoring and providing the right data collection capabilities to support agile application operations. This session will outline the use of open source and commercial software solutions which fit startups to the enterprise.
Abstract (Longer, more detailed description (3-6 paragraphs, bullet points welcome) of your presentation to help the program committee understand what you will cover. Please keep in mind that if your proposal is chosen, this abstract will also appear on the website to help conference attendees decide if it's right for them.):
Enterprises do not have the benefit of starting from scratch, they must implement DevOps in an existing environment, often managing heritage investments along with fast moving projects. The monitoring tools unfortunately fall into the same category. These complex, dated, and costly monitoring tools don’t meet today’s needs in providing the visibility required for agile development that leverage continuous delivery and DevOps. Not only are the tools an issue, but the visibility and approaches are also problematic.
The use of open source tools has been the de facto approach for DevOps, but this approach comes with it’s own set of challenges in terms of managing a complex stack of tools with varying quality of support/community. The move to a metrics-driven feedback loop enables teams to act fast at any stage of the product lifecycle. We will outline common technology stacks and approaches using graphite, statsd, and collectd along with nagios, munin, and other system monitoring tools. We will also outline commercial solutions, and how these tools tend to fall into silos as well.
Monitoring must be reformed with new platforms and technologies, fitting specific design patterns which meet the needs of DevOps teams, these will be outlined and explained from a requirements perspective, providing a roadmap for how to apply these learnings inside your company. Join this session to take back an evolved approach to unified monitoring and how you can get your company to be metrics driven
Attendees of this session will walk away with a clear understanding of:
Understanding today’s tooling limitations
Open source tool sprawl issues
Fundamental patterns of monitoring
How these will be solved in the future

Software as a Service (SaaS) is revolutionizing the technology industry. Applications using the Internet as the development and delivery platform are proving to be more flexible, user friendly, and easier to manage. The SaaS model has produced significant savings including a combined 60% reduction in annual licensing, hardware, maintenance and consultancy costs.
According to Goldman Sachs, “Software as a Service is the most impactful trend in software currently. SaaS solutions solve many of the problems that traditional software faces, including large upfront license fees, long time to implementation, and access issues by a mobile workforce.”
This session provides insight into how SaaS applications stack up against traditional client/server technology and how to best prepare your organization to capitalize on a significant trend in our industry that is here to stay. You will learn about the basics of SaaS and the many advantages SaaS applications can bring to your organization.
Additionally, we will highlight the convergence of ITIL V3, Web 2.0 technology and SaaS within IT Service Management and provide an introduction to a widely-adopted ITSM SaaS offering, Service-now.com.
Expected Attendee ROI
• Understand why traditional client/server ITSM applications are a thing of the past.

Application performance is a key element in business workforce productivity. Transactional applications that build business processes are the externally visible components of IT. Their performance is critical for overall productivity of the enterprise and must be in line with business expectations. That’s one of the most important mission statements for any IT organization.
Not a common picture in data centerSome businesses have close interaction with customersIT does not, so how to ensure good level of feedback ?
For heavily modular, redundant, distributed and dynamic application architectures, the application may exist as an integral whole only when the end user is accessing it. The end user's experience may be the only vantage point from which the application meaningfully exists. Therefore:Monitoring must become application-centric, primary place must be given to ensuring a high quality of end-user or customer experience. That doesn’t mean that monitoring infrastructure components (e.g., servers, storage, networks, the virtual fabric) becomes unimportant. Rather, processes must be reshaped to ensure that the data collected must always be analyzed for what it reveals about how the behavior of those components impacts the end-to-end performance of the applications that exercise those components. In other words, applications must become the windows through which the infrastructure and its performance are observed.
End-user experience monitoring is central to the APM process. It is precisely where business process execution interfaces with the IT stack - the most direct point of encounter between IT and the business. End-user experience monitoring can be explained and justified to line-of-business and C-level executives in a relatively straightforward and intuitive manner — e.g., everyone understands what it means and can guess the impact of an application problem on business process execution or customer satisfaction.
