1st Photo
1. In this first photo, there are 4 young boys all dressed in the same uniform (possibly for a school or
for Hitler’s Youth).
2. They are riding bicycles down a rural road while giving the “Heil Hitler” salute to the cameraman.
It does not looked posed, it looks like the photographer happened upon these children.
3. If he was a German Hilter-supporting Nazi, he was probably doing it for a newspaper to convey
the idea of unity under Hitler, even amongst children. If he was against Hitler or Nazi-Germany,
he was probably trying to find evidence of the success Hitler was having among the people of
Germany.
4. Because it is showing innocence even though there is evil underlying in the picture.
2nd Photo
1. In this photo, there are 13 men that are dressed in their army uniforms, looking happy.
2. The men are gathered together, some have their shirts off, and they all look hot and sweaty, so
this is probably a photo from the Vietnam War. Also, the background looks flat and tropical.
3. The photographer was trying to convey for the people at home in America that everything was
fine in Vietnam and he was also probably trying to show this image of camaraderie of the
soldiers, even if the purpose of the Vietnam war wasn't great. Whether or not it was a posed
picture to manipulate the public, it is still showing a group of men looking happy in a situation
where they wouldn't necessarily have that.
4. This photo is important to history because it is showing the men of the Vietnam war (black and
white, noted) fighting together, and does envoke a feeling of hope.
3rd Photo:
1. In this last photograph, many men are pouring out gallons of liquor onto the street. They range
from men that look like workers and men that look like businessmen.
2. These men are dressed in 1920s fashion and seem to be gathered on a city corner (possibly New
York or Chicago) as they rid of the liquor. This was probably taken at the beginning of the
Prohibition Act. The men who are pouring out the liquor look quite joyous about the situation,
while some of the onlookers seem disappointed or confused.
3. It is possible that the photographer happened upon these men during prohibition, and took the
photo out of interest. He was probably documenting the whole act of disposing of liquor that was
enforced by Prohibition for a newspaper.
4. This photo is important because the prohibition was this grand idea that was supposed to help the
country, so photos like this show how everyone was conforming to this Act, but, as history tell s
us, speakeasies weren't far behind.
