This document discusses how Fusion-io products can improve virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and virtual SAN (VSAN) performance. It provides an overview of Fusion-io's flash storage acceleration technology and customer base. It then outlines how Fusion-io's ioMemory products can be used to greatly increase VDI density and improve VSAN performance and scalability by integrating flash as a caching tier compared to traditional spinning disk or SSD-based storage architectures. Sample configurations and cost comparisons are provided that demonstrate significant capital expenditure and operational savings when using ioMemory for VDI and VSAN deployments.

The XenStore is a central piece of the Xen framework on which most operations depend. This makes it both a central point of failure and a performance bottleneck. In this presentation, Filipe will present NEC's work on removing the XenStore and replacing it with NoXS, a hypervisor-based mechanism that provides the necessary functionality to replace the XenStore when running paravirtualized guests. NoXS not only bring advantages in terms of guest management operations' times, but also in terms of scalability and reliability by simplifying dom0. NoXS is also backwards compatible by allowing the XenStore to run in parallel. This presentation will discuss the design of NoXS and show initial results of the prototype implementation, namely boot times bellow 20 ms for up to 8000 guests. The presenter would also like to discuss whether this work is interesting to the Xen project, and if so, how it could be upstreamed.

High Performance Object Storage in 30 Minutes with Supermicro and MinIORebekah Rodriguez
The Supermicro Cloud DC is the perfect combination of performance, reliability, craftsmanship and flexibility for deploying MinIO object storage. MinIO on the Cloud DC platform outperforms and is more cost-effective than equivalently-sized hardware from other manufacturers. We recently benchmarked a cluster of four Cloud DC servers with NVMe drives and measured an impressive 42.57 GB/s average read (GET) throughput and 24.69 GB/s average write (PUT) throughput. This first class performance demonstrates that MinIO on Supermicro Cloud DC is a compelling solution for object storage intensive workloads such as advanced analytics, AI/ML and other modern, cloud-native applications.
In this webinar, you will learn:
Best use cases and deployment considerations for MinIO object storage
How to design and size a MinIO object storage cluster on Supermicro Cloud DC
How to deploy a distributed MinIO cluster onto a Cloud DC server cluster

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
