A quick non technical session for Fujitsu Ambassadors in Scotland on what we planned and what we will actually do with Fujitsu Hub in a large Scottish College City of Glasgow College
2. PRE AND POST PANDEMIC
Where we were .. Once Upon a Time !
We were going to start using the Fujitsu digital hub for targeted
student and staff digital skills development - we were going to
improve blended learning !
3. THE WORLD CHANGED -
What have we learned/gained from adversity
1. Provision of blended content climbed.
2. Staff skills have moved onto another plain.
3. Students not as black and white a reaction to
remote learning as may have been anticipated.
4. In some areas performance improved - HN
theory units
4. Now around 6000 sessions delivered
Staff have embraced online training sessions – was external appetite for
support too
5. OUR WORKPLACE FOR ALL STAFF
Hybrid working still trialling
For some three days on two days off site working .
But very role dependent - librarian , finance officer , cleaner
– need to be on site.
6. TEACHING AND LEARNING
For lecturers - good that system has proven so elastic - in coping with
pandemic but the danger is that it springs back into previous shape and
no learning.
Solution - not a one size fits all model.
Trying to keep planning and delivery at curriculum team level -what works
best for course and students. How to build in social elements for learners
Challenge to get this to fit the needs of learners not curriculum teams.
For learners course dependent on attendance a blend of theory online ,
practical in workshops - so face to face and blended.
More face to face for FE learners – we know they thrive best on this.
7. SO WHAT NEXT ? HYBRID LEARNING ?
Still really trialling any model has to be
effective for learners and for teaching staff.
For staff and learners Fujitsu skills hub as
adjunct to library it will really help with
developing new skill sets and practice
8. HYBRID / HIFLEX
Hardware - we have - super special Virtual
Learning Lab VLL - Intel , Fujitsu – but not
scalable across College
Various hybrid solutions - none as yet that make
it a smooth experience for staff and learners in
class room and remotely simultaneously
What do new learning spaces look like now we
are thinking about hybrid/Hi-flex learning ?
9. WHAT WE DON'T WANT TO GO BACK TO
1. Huge amounts of photcopying - class sets of handouts
2. Having face to face meetings when they could be on-line.
3. A sharp digital divide for learners or for staff.
10. WHAT WE WANT TO DO MORE OF
1.Better analytics used to inform and to customise the learning experience
2. Further improve staff and learners digital skills across the curriculum
3. More relevant use of Virtual and Augmented reality to make learning
more accessible
4. Continuing to close any digital divide and attainment gap in Scotland.
5. We need to make use of external drivers GTCS Professional Review for
all lecturers . College Development Network Digital standards for
lecturers and support staff in Colleges.
11. LEARNING TECH PARTNERSHIPS DELIVER
MORE ..
We are grateful to our sponsoring
partners
We are in the VLL Virtual Learning Lab
sponsored by
Intel , Aver , Kramer and Viewsonic
The Fujitsu Learning Hub
Sponsored by Fujitsu , Intel , Ruckus and
Net App
City of Glasgow College welcomes this
support
12. PARTNERSHIP BENEFITS – WHAT
NEXT?
Access to expertise for infrastructure projects – we used Fujitsu
experts to help us procure new College SAN ( Storage Area
Network)
Access for learners to specialist learning materials , employers
and employment opportunities – partners are gateway to
employers.
For IT and academic staff access to industry training and
training packages when required
In England emerging Institutes of Technology - how do we
achieve this in Scottish policy landscape ?
