– The feeling of being upset or
annoyed as a result of being
unable to chance or achieve
something
– An emotional state that arises
from perceived resistance to
the fulfillment of individual’s
will.
– Derived from a Latin word
FRUSTA means Obstruct
– Frustration is a negative feeling
• Sources of frustration
– Internal sources
• Blocking within an individual’s mind
– Lack of ability
– Lack of confidence
– Conflicting goals and desires
– Fears of social situation
– External sources
• Blocking outside
– Outside their control e.g. road blocks, difficult tasks, or
perceived waste of time, traffic
– Can be unavoidable
– It is just the way life is

• Response to frustration:
– Anger
– Giving up
– Loss of confidence and self esteem
– Depression
– Other reactions:
• Drug abuse, alcoholism, murder, rape, physical
problems and psychological problems
• Ways to handle frustrations:
– Healthy to talk to someone
– Accept reality by writing pros and cons list
– Take a break and think for causes
– Stop blaming self and accept if you are fault and
move on
– Stop being angry and be calm
– relax – bath (long hot bath)
– Be with people who are optimistic
