2. One of my original images includes a brick wall in the background. I cropped this bit of wall and used the smudge tool to blur the bricks together and make a simple brown image. The brown wasn’t very attractive, so I used hue/saturation to turn it green. I then used fancy brushes and different shades of green to add texture to the background.

3. I was going to use the image on the left, but decided it took up too much space. I decided on the second image instead, as it is more aggressive, and leaves the left third free. I had to use magnetic lasso to cut the figure from the background. I also used magnetic lasso to select just the scarf, and change it to purple using hue/saturation. I prefer the contrast the purple creates against the green background.

4. Next, I needed a masthead. I went with the name “Roll and Rock” for my magazine, as the content consists of rock music, but with a new spin on it. I got a suitable, eye- catching font from www.dafont.com (golden 0 pony) and displayed it in the top left of the page. I applied outer glow to the masthead to make it stand out even more. I also added the ‘slogo’ or selling line of “subverting the norm.”

5. The results of my survey showed me that my target audience don’t much like festivals, and that they want interesting articles in a magazine, so I decided to include an article condemning festivals, alongside Kyanna, who was the subject of my main article on the double page spread. I placed them both in the left third. On some magazines, the names of other artists features are scrolled at the bottom, to entice the reader in. I decided to use this idea, as it looks attractive, and gives an idea of what is inside.

6. And finally, the finishing touches! I had a few spaces in the corners, so I decided to add that the first issue is free, and there is a free download for every reader because according to my survey, my target audience like free stuff! I also needed to add a barcode to keep it looking professional.
