- Cover Letter: Connect the dots, make any call-outs. Walk the line between passionate yet authoritative
- Interviews: Perfect outfit + Perfect Prep + perfect Questions
- Follow Up: Email + handwritten note
- The first thing employers do is Google potential hires. My rule of thumb – if you’d be embarrassed if your grandma saw it online, delete it! If there is something truly “bad” out there that shows up when you google yourself and you can’t take it down, create a website or blog to move it down in Google search results.
- LinkedIn is essentially your living resume. Make sure you fill out all the fields and add a professional headshot to your profile. Start connecting with people in the industry you’re interested in and follow/join in the convo.
- Do some research and reach out to people who are in your dream job – maybe not the CEO of a company, but someone early in their career and ask them how they got to where they are. People LOVE talking about themselves and you never know who might be able to help you out.
- From hearing from -- and connecting with -- thousands of people on LinkedIn, I’ve seen some rather huge mistakes. These are the top three, from my perspective.
- Clubs – Be A Leader Student Gov – Control Some Money
- You don’t have to be different — you just have to be great.
- Disconnect (walks, shower, music, irrelevant chats)
