Background
When the sex of a girl or a woman drives the infliction of violence towards them, it is regarded as
a form of gender based violence (Heise et al., 2002). Violence against women, regardless of the
form, can occur in various stages of the woman s life (Murthy and Smith, 2010), and refers not
only to physical and sexual acts of violence, but also encompasses verbal abuse, emotional torture,
economic deprivation, and social disregard (Kapoor and Dhingra, 2013).
An official report by the World Health Organization estimates that globally, 1 in 3 women are
affected by physical and/or sexual violence by a partner and sexual violence by a non partner, and
therefore deeming the issue as a global pandemic that require attention of all stakeholders.
Regionally, violence against women in South East Asia is highest with a 37.7% prevalent rate, a
slightly higher number compared to the Eastern Mediterranean (37%) and African (36.6%) region
(World Health Organization, 2013).
Out of all forms of violence against women, rape is one of the most common and is also one the
most harshest. Rape is traditionally defined as any forced sexual intercourse without one s consent.

Theissen. Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2007, 212 pp., $15.50.
The writer, Theissen, truly engages the reader to really look at things in a more logical manner by
painting a scenario of what life might have been like when Jesus walked among us. His use of
descriptive language to describe locations and atmospheres, allows the reader to vividly recreate
and see these images and feel as though you have traveled back in time. The book is written in a
narrative format, which suits me well because it gives you more of a personal feel to it. You almost
feel guilty reading the sometimes lowly thoughts of Andreas, the main character in the story.
Theissen is very knowledgeable in his Bible history and he displays it well throughout the book.
He speaks about many episodes in Jesus life that we know to be true based on the Bible, and he
interweaves them with his own fictitious character s storyline. This really gives the reader a sense
of what someone might have seen, heard and thought about Jesus during that timeframe, and it
gives the reader a better chance to relate emotions with biblical history. Although the book is
fictitious in nature, Theissen does a great job at elaborating how it might have been back in time
for someone to become a new follower of Christ. He highlighted the many questions they may
have faced not only on a personal basis, but on a public one as well.

and institutions (on the national and European level) leads to a growing legitimacy issue for the

European Communities, Romano Prodi, announced promoting new forms of European governance
(Prodi, 2000:4) as a key strategic objective of his Commission from 2000 2005. Consequently, the
European Commission published the White Paper on European Governance in 2001, introducing

The aim of this paper is the critical assessment of the White Paper, thus closely scrutinizing the

The tension between the colonies and Britain was nothing new. There were several occasions where
the colonies became greatly infuriated with the unpleasant treatment they were receiving. Prior to
the year 1770, much of the outcry came from the acts passed by the British government, such as the
Stamp Act, Quartering Act, and Declaratory Act ( A Timeline of the American Revolution). Even
though the colonists were infuriated, it would take something more to push them over the edge.
This something would turn out to be what is now called the Boston Massacre. Although the Boston
Massacre won t go down as the deadliest massacre in American history, it will go down as one of

happened leading up to the massacre itself, which are important to note. The colonists were
becoming increasingly frustrated with Britain, which led to political unrest. To counteract this
unrest, British troops were sent to Boston, where they arrived on October 1, 1968. Originally,
there wasn t an open resistance to the presence of the troops. Over time, things would change,
which can be derived from the events of March 5, 1770. There were two sides: the mob of

Marine debris consists of discarded plastic, glass, and metal that does not easily decompose.
Some debris such as abandoned ships and old cars that sink attract fish because they form
artificial reefs. Some artificial reefs have been purposely made by humans out of sinking marine
debris for the sole purpose of providing sea life with an ecosystem. The pollution problem is
more centered around floating marine debris such as plastic. Because plastic floats it constitutes a
threat to sea birds and mammals who either eat it or become entangled in it. Each year 30,000
northern fur seals as well as hundreds of thousands of other marine animals die due to being
entangled in discarded plastic(Johnston 63). These plastics when eaten can lodge in the intestines

most deadly chemicals are constantly running off land into water. These chemicals; DDT, PCBs,
and dioxins belong to a family of industrial and agricultural chemicals that do not brake down easily

from an adult person towards a minor. These offenses go from child molestation all the way to
actual sexual intercourse. Child sex abuse falls into different categories including child sexual abuse
to have self pleasure and child sexual abuse to get a profit.
