Free Enterprise Research Paper
The Importance of Free Enterprise.
Bill Gates is, like many other famous entrepreneurs, always known for his generous activities. He
has donated very large amounts of his money to charity organizations. He is the principal founder of
Microsoft Corporation. After building to build his company up, Microsoft expanded into software
applications and continued to grow. He accomplished things in life by not only inventing new
technology, but by taking existing technology, adapting it into a specific market economy, and then
dominating it through promoting the product. He is able to be in the free enterprise system which is
an economic system where the government places a few restrictions on businesses and business
owners.
To begin with, Gates was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He made a very large impact on the world. His products were considered new and innovative. This
made customers, at the time, think that it was risky to splurge on something that has never been seen
before. In a free enterprise system, if the product that is being sold is one of the highest demands on
the market, this means that the product will bring more wealth to the entrepreneur. This means that
entrepreneurs can take advantage of this and make decisions without the government having to say
much. Bill Gates created great software and thanks to him, anyone is able to access their computers,
laptops, or smartphones easily. His hard work was paid off because he is one of the most successful
businessmen of this generation. The government does not have to control or do anything to his
company. The producer, Gates, can control his company however much he wants to. He has the
freedom to produce at his own profit. He can increase or decrease the efficiency of the resources
needed. "A court settlement was approved in 2002 with Microsoft consenting to curb some of its
objectionable practices. Microsoft has since been the focus of antitrust actions from the European
Commission and private litigants"

Bill Gates Research Paper
79 billion dollars at 60 years old is an accomplishment undoubtedly. So many factors contribute into
acquiring billions of dollars. Bill Gates became one of the most wealthy, successful men in the
world through his determination, his outstanding ideas, and being an consistent entrepreneur. He
developed those qualities from his childhood and background, his present projects, and future plans
he has with his fortune. Bill Gates has become co–founder of microsoft and has built the largest
privately owned foundation in the world. Not many people in this world can say that they have
accomplished what Bill Gates has in 60 years of life, which meant building an empire from the
ground up.

Dropping out of college may have not sounded like a good idea, but Bill trusted in himself to strive
for greatness and success with his close friend Paul.
After some opportunities and time passed, in 1975 the two decided to invent Micro–Soft, a blend of
a microcomputer and a software (Biography). Later in Microsoft's timeline, people were not buying
it as much once they figured out that they could share it with friends for free. Gates caught on to this
and wrote an open letter that basically informed that sharing the software was just like stealing it.
Most people did not agree with him, but he continued to be determined and when accused or unfair
business practice, he threatened with innovation. Gates and Allen soon broke away from MITS and
were on their own with Microsoft. This did not discourage Bill; he took it on as a challenge and he
moved Microsoft to Washington in 1978. Microsoft grew and began to rise in worth grossing $2.5
million in 1978 when Bill was only 23. The rise of Microsoft began when the IBM was in need of a
software to run their forthcoming PC. Although he had not come up with and operating system that
could run IBM's new PC, he bought a operating system that was similar to what IBM needed and
sold it to them for the price he bought it for. This made Microsoft more valuable and revenue rose
from $4 million to $16 million between the years 1978 and 1981. Soon after this, Bill shot out the
idea of

Microsoft Corporation is an American–based technological company that develops, manufactures,
licenses, supports, and sells computer software, consumer electronics, and personal computers and
services. Microsoft is most notable for their products such as Xbox and Windows. Xbox is
Microsoft's flagship video gaming console which released in 2001. Windows is Microsoft's biggest
claim to fame. From its release in 1985, Microsoft Windows quickly caught on as by far the largest
computer operating system with the vast majority of personal and work related computers running

Over the span of the last year, Microsoft's most drastic change n price occurred in July of 2013.
After steady growth prior to this date, Microsoft suffered from falling short of the expected profit by
11% in July's earnings. The biggest reason for this is because of Microsoft's new line of tablets, the
surface, falling fall short of expectation after much investment by Microsoft into this product line.
The loss in revenue from the peak of the stock price in April to now, can be attributed to the lack of
competition in Microsoft's new gaming console, the Xbox One. Microsoft recently have decided to
sell the console without their web–camera like, body tracking "Kinect" camera. The reason for this
is to stay competitive against Sony's competing console, the PS4. As Xbox One's price was $499
with the Kinect camera and the PS4 was $399, Sony was severely outpacing Microsoft in sales.
Microsoft's recent decision to sell without Kinect to drop the console's price from $499 to $399 was
anticipated to raise the Stock's price past the year's peak, $41.42.
I purchased 75 shares of Microsoft on 8/22/13 for $32.18 per share. Since then, the highest price
Microsoft has reached was $41.42 on 4/1/2014. Since I've owned the stock, the lowest price the
stock has hit was $31.15 on September 6, 2013. From the purchasing price of $32.18 to the current
price of $40.12, I have earned $7.94 per share, for a total

College Admissions Essay: A Career As A Microsoft Student
I was good at writing since my childhood. Before someone quickly disagrees with it, it's definitely
not poems, essays, and articles, I was actually good at writing computer codes. My interest in
WRITING code, not just changed my life, it made the most of what I am today. It made me that
popular geeky guy in school and college who fixes computers. It made me a Microsoft Student
Partner, something which I am so proud of even today. It helped me to land a good job, so far lucky
not going through the pain of being jobless. Oh, wait, shouldn't this be about the ACTUAL writing?.
Just want to establish my geeky background, as they say, logic contradicts creativity. I am here
contradicting the both.
If you are wondering why this coding guy started blogging and all, I might call it self–realization.
Did I realize that I have an amazing writing talent? No, I realized social network is not a right place

Software Engineering : Microsoft's Explorer Program
In the field of Software Engineering, students have a plethora of internships available to them.
Despite having so many choices available to them, students must narrow their options to internships
that will benefit them the most. Two particular Software Engineering internships that stand out
among the others are Animusoft's Software Engineering internship and Microsoft's Explorer
program. Based out of Miami, Florida, Animusoft promises students the chance to work on exciting
team projects while learning about software engineering in a professional setting (Animusoft LLC).
Microsoft's Explorer program, on the other hand, is based out of Redmond, Washington and offers
students the opportunity to gain experience in software development ... Show more content on

However, Microsoft's approach differs in that students work on their project with a group of their
peers rather than employees like in Animusoft's internship. This makes the internship serve as an
enjoyable learning experience for students. Moreover, Microsoft strongly encourages students to be
deeply involved in their project, as a result, students are assigned to a group by a group coordinator.
Animusoft, however, assigns students their projects and expects them to work with Animusoft's
junior and senior developers. Clearly, Microsoft wants to make students feel comfortable and not
overwhelm with work that they may not be ready for. Animusoft, on the other hand, aims to treat
students as though they are experienced employees. While this not necessarily detrimental to
students' future success, it does show that Microsoft is a safer option for students who may not be
experienced in software development. When it comes to time commitment, these internships differ
in how many hours students must dedicate to their project. Specifically, Animusoft expects students
to work on these projects for a minimum of 20 hours per week. In addition to this, students must be
willing to contribute to their project at home and in their free time. Although, Animusoft only offers
a part–time position. Therefore, students must keep in mind that they spend under 40 hours per week
working on their project. While

Microsoft Positioning Strategy
. ANALYSIS OF CURRENT BRAND POSITIONING AND SEGMENTATION STRATEGIES
BRAND POSITIONING
Brand positioning is essential to the success of any firm because it delivers a perception into the
consumer's minds which differentiates them from their competitors. Microsoft began to grow their
brand over 20 years ago with Bill Gate's an underlying vision of "a computer on every desk and in
every home". This resulted in Microsoft developing into a huge multinational company with
personal computing at the forefront of their business. Microsoft dominated this industry for many
years which is reflected in the high brand recognition of Microsoft products worldwide.
However, this dominance has slowly evaporated and Microsoft has failed to react to new ... Show

to use their tablet for work purposes over leisure with built in Microsoft software, high storage and
durable battery. The emphasis that the Microsoft Surface 2 is a "tool not a toy" provides a clear idea
that Microsoft is targeting professionals who are interested in productivity. For now, we will just
have to wait and see if Microsoft'segmentation strategy proves to be successful over the upcoming
year.

communicate to a wide customer base. The company has implemented successful brand and
communication strategies throughout their range of products which vary across software,
entertainment, devices and gaming etc. The modern media mix typically used by Microsoft includes
television campaigns and the internet to generate reach, mobile to drive engagement and social
media to spark conversations and generate virility. However, in contrast with the other sectors they

In this paper the team will be discussing the relationship between strategic planning and financial
planning for Microsoft. The paper will discuss strategic planning initiative and identify a strategic
initiative discussed in the Microsoft annual report. The team will also discuss how the initiative
affects Microsoft financial planning. It will then go on to discuss how the plan affects costs and how
it affects its sales. Last the paper will examine the risk associated with the plan and how it affects

Microsoft focuses on technology implementations, which in the short run will impact cost and the
initiative, which in turn will affect the organization's financial planning.
Microsoft is striving to be the world's leader in technology, including more growth and
opportunities. Cost is one of the main concerns for project managers to continue developing,
producing, and making profit. It is a major problem in both small businesses, and huge organizations
such as Microsoft to meet expectations by identifying a successful initiative, and also by identifying
the risk that will be taken by such initiate. Taking an initiative involves risk by impacting both
strategic and financial planning. It can go both ways with an unsuccessful initiative, impacting
financial planning, while losing sales and not making any profit. If a successful initiative was
identified, the organization can achieve not only success, but great sales and huge profits.
Growing businesses face many risks and uncertainties, and Microsoft is not the exception. With such
intense competition, Microsoft continues to innovate to maintain current. Along with competition,
Microsoft face geographical and product challenges. Altering their products to meet government
regulations only reduces attractiveness to their products whole increasing production cost. Almost
everything is a give and take. Constant risks need to be taken with hope that the outcome drives
sales and customer satisfaction. Microsoft takes great

One of the major drivers of future success for both Google and Microsoft is the ability of both
companies to use software applications to "drive eyeballs" to advertisers. Each company is
positioned differently in this regard. Microsoft has a sizable, mature installed base of app users, but
the company's business model is currently focused on selling these apps as a consumer product to
users, rather than on advertising. Google, by contrast, has been focused for some time on utilizing its

Marketing Apple Fanatics : Self Identity
As a company, Apple is known throughout the globe for more than their high–quality and
revolutionary products; Apple is a household name because of the publicity surrounding their
devoted fans. These fans camp outside Apple Stores days before a product is released, sometimes
just to preorder the product. They eat, sleep, and breathe Apple, earning them the name iSheep. Fans
of other brands lack the same publicity, but they maintain the same level of devotion. Many people
exclusively wear Nike or Jordan. Some may make a cup of Starbucks coffee a part of their morning
routine. Over the years, brand wars have gained media attention and marked generations: Ford vs.
Chevrolet, Microsoft vs. Apple, Coke vs. Pepsi, the list goes on. The bottom line is that major
brands often create an obsession among their consumers that can be compared to religious worship,
which in turn negatively affects cultural identity.
According to David Glance, an author for The Washington Post, there are three interconnected
factors that form Apple fanatics: Self–identity, Brand drivers, and Social identity. The first is fairly
self–explanatory; people today base their lifestyles on their possessions, especially where their
smartphone is concerned. People are also influenced by band drivers – "the perceived value of the
product, the level of service that came with the purchase, ... and the overall level of trust placed in
both the product and the company" (Glance). Yet above all, people have the instinctive

the first time in 1985. Jobs's first child, Lisa Brennan–Jobs was born in 1978. She was the daughter
of a longtime friend Chrisann Brennan, who was a Bay Area painter. Chrisann raised her daughter
on welfare for two years, while Jobs denied paternity. Later, Jobs married Laurene Powell on March
18, 1991, in a ceremony at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park. They later had a son,
Reed, who was born September 1991, followed by daughters Erin in August 1995, and Eve in 1998.
The similarities that both of these men have are that they both have two daughters and one son. They
also have both purchased multi–million dollar estates. Their houses are both located on a hill

pursued his studies for the next year and a half. However, his life changed in January 1975 when

Berkeley College Background Bill Gates – the richest man in the world, a computer magnate,
founder and owner of Microsoft. He created his first computer program at the age of 13. He loves
cars, motor boats and playing poker. He never ate at home because he did not want to waste time on
cooking. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington, USA. He was the first

At 17, he received an offer to writing software package in the distribution of the energy Bonneville
Dam. Following the family tradition, Bill Gates went to Harvard, intending to become a lawyer like
his father. But he was still the same closed and uncommunicative, which is absolutely not
appropriate for the profession. He rarely attended student parties, only his close friend Steve
Ballmer, who will become president of Microsoft.
Personal Motivation In December 1974, Bill Gates saw a computer for $ 397. The only thing was
missing was the machine software. Paul Allen tried to persuade Bill to open his own company to
develop software, but Bill was in no hurry to leave school. And the only way out of the market the
first home computer available to consumers under the name "Altair 8800", prompting him to listen

Bill Gates and Allen contacted representatives of the company MITS, offering them software

people to work on writing a programming language. The couple moved to New Mexico, where he
began the history of Microsoft. The first five Microsoft customers have gone bankrupt, but the guys

Bill Gates : The Richest Man On Earth
Imagine if you had the money that Bill Gates has? Think about getting handed $114 dollars a

Gates is an investor, inventor, and programmer, which forever changed the way we communicate
around the world today. This did not happen without many obstacles though. Gates had to deal with
mean competitors, intense legal battles, and even personal losses throughout this to get to where he
is today: the richest man on earth. Bill Gates was born on October 28th, in 1955 as William Henry
Gates in Seattle, Washington. He grew up in a middle–class family with an older sister Kristine, and
a younger sister named Libby. His father, William H. Gates Sr., was a shy law student who married
Gates ' mom, Mary. The Gates family was happy and close, and all three children were pushed to

years old, his parents became worried about his behavior and took him to another school, Lakeside

two years older. They both became good friends, due to them both being interested in computers.

Gates and Allen, began working day and night in Harvard's computer lab. Since they had not Altair

Taking a Look at the Microsoft Corporation
Microsoft Corporation was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in April 1975 in Albuquerque,
New Mexico. It became popular in the masses with the operating system Windows and Microsoft
Office Suite. It is an American multinational company that is primarily known for its dominance in
the software industry. With some of the best software including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft
Office Suite, MS DOS and Internet Explorer to name a few, ever introduced in the market, it has
become a software giant.
Since the time Microsoft came into existence, it has focused on developing some of the best
software. This focus on software has caused Microsoft to fall behind in today's market. Its primary
rival Apple Inc. has quickly become the leading tech giant with some of the most popular products
available today. By not only providing some of the best hardware but also software, Apple has taken
the much anticipated leap in the industry and has left Microsoft far behind.
Over the years, Microsoft has primarily focused on developing software. However, since it has seen
a drastic decrease in its revenues and popularity, it has introduced a change in its focus. There have
been some major changes within Microsoft Corporation. A change, which involves expanding and
branching out into producing hardware like Xbox and Surface tablet. It has also ventured into
Skype, MSN, Bing and Windows Phone. Venturing out into these services has helped Microsoft
bring a change to its long established image of just

Differentiating Between Market Structures
Microsoft is the software giant responsible for bringing Windows operating system to the PC
(personal computer). Microsoft is also a known and well respected company in the global market.
The tech giant has dominated the computer industry since 1981. Due to the nature of such a huge
company, Microsoft has its hands in multiple markets. Microsoft currently competes in file hosting,
software, operating systems, and gaming consoles. Unfortunately, each of the afore–mentioned
markets differ from one another. For the purpose of this paper, the market that ... Show more content

One competitive strategy that Microsoft may consider would be lowering the price of the software.
Microsoft's current OS average cost is $200 but can be as high as six to seven hundred, while Apple
currently offers theirs on average at about $50. Lowering the average cost of the OS could increase
demand as well as sales ("Calibex", 1999–2015).
Another competitive strategy that could be considered would be increasing the target audience.
Microsoft has consent to make a bold play for the workplace while leaving the school market open
for Apple. The idea was that if adults were using Microsoft OS at work all day, then they would be
more likely to purchase the OS for their home PC. This was a good strategy in the beginning but
may need to be changed for future sales. Microsoft will have major competition with Apple over the
next five years because schools of all levels are expected to switch from computers to iPads. This
may possibly hurt Microsoft's future sales because as the students enter the real world they will
continue to depend on Apple for their future computer needs (Hughes, 2011).
The final Competitive strategy Microsoft may consider would be the introduction of a differentiation
strategy. Differentiation strategy is defined as an approach under which a firm aims to develop and
market unique products for each customer

Bill Gates Major Accomplishments
William Henry Gates III was born in Seattle, Washington on October 28, 1955. He loved to play
board games and was competitive at most everything he did. He was an intelligent student and his
best subject in grade school was math. At the time when Bill was growing up, there weren't home
computers like the PC, the laptop, or the tablet like we have today. Computers were owned by large
companies and took up lots of space. The first computer program he wrote was a version of tic–tac–
toe while using the computer at his school. At one point, Bill and some of his fellow students were
banned from using the computer because they hacked it to get extra computing time. They then
agreed to look for bugs in the computer system in return for computer time.

Microsoft Xbox Case Study Essay
Question: Was Microsoft's decision to enter the game console business a good decision? Based on:
Microsoft Xbox Online. University of Michigan Business School Case Study. The XBOX is now a
6th generation video game console that is manufactured by Microsoft. The machine itself was
released in November of 2001, just in time for the 2001 Holiday Season in the United States, then
subsequently worldwide. The decision to manufacture and release the system was Microsoft's first
plunge into the gaming console market and designed to compete with the Sony PlayStation 2,
Nintendo's GameCUbe, and Sega's Dreamcast. By November of 2002, Microsoft launched the Xbox
Live service that allowed players to play interactive games online (Gamer's Catch, 2006). Looking
at the evolution of the system, however, we now know that the Xbox began to be discontinued in
late 2005 (in Japan) and then in early 2007 in North America. The last game was released in August
2007, and even support for out–of–warranty consoles was discontinued in 2009, with all new faulty
consoles replaced with Xbox 360. Xbox Live support was discontinued in April 2010 (Whitten,
2010). The Video–Gaming industry, though, is both fickle and highly competitive. Each season the
major manufacturers reinvent the system in some way; modernize it in pieces, likely even though
they could actually go from version 2 to 6 in one year. Stretching it out, though, makes it more
fiscally competitive in the long run. When faced with a

New Business Model Of College Students
College students who have to have certain kind of software for school often find themselves in a
predicament when they cannot afford software that they need for a class whether it be for an English
major or Graphics Design major. Students are facing a new business model where companies like
adobe and Microsoft Office are making their software into a monthly payment instead of a one–time
pay for the software. Software companies should not have their software on a monthly payment for
students because low budgets, users rent not own, and is it worth it.
In general college students are broke, students are doing good to buy ramen noodles for themselves.
How could they pay over $50 a month for something like Adobe Creative Cloud, $30 a month for
Grammarly, or $75 a year for Microsoft Office? The C–Net report talks about how software and

Are We Too Dependent on Technology? If you were to ask somebody what a computer was sixty
years ago they would look at you look at you puzzled. Now days it is hard to find a household or
office in America that does not contain at least one personal computer. With all of this information at
our finger tips, we have to ask ourselves if we are becoming too dependent on technology. Imagine
if we were to wake up tomorrow with all electronic devices disabled. Everybody's life would be

A lot of people believe that we are not too dependent on technology. I spoke to my brother; he stated
we just utilize it like we would automobiles or anything else like that. There is no denying the
benefits of technology, however, I believe we should not get ahead of ourselves. Over the last fifty
years our civilization has changed dramatically. Communication with friends and family has become
as easy as the click of the mouse. Also we have saved countless trees by using electronic mail
instead of paper mail. I agree that it is in our best interest to continue to use technology in the future.
However, I feel that we all should get into the mindset of having a contingency plan in case we lose
it. It is hard to go anywhere now days without interacting with a computer. A lot of jobs now require
that you fill out applications on the internet. It has also become crucial that you have basic computer
skills to be employed in any office setting. In 1994 only 3% of public schools had internet access. In
just over ten years in 2005 that number had jumped to 94% of all public schools now having internet
access. (US Department of Education) This just goes to show how fast technology is really growing.
I feel that we are way to acceptant of something new and need to realize the repercussions before
jumping right in. So many people rely on technology in their everyday lives. It could be from using

Choice Book Essay Recently, I read the book 'Gates, how Microsoft 's mogul reinvented an

Introduction
Throughout my journey in this honors seminar, I have read about several creators (in Creating
Minds) who were pioneers or masters in their respective domains. Each of these creators (Freud,
Einstein, Picasso, Stravinsky, Eliot, Graham, and Ghandi) was researched by Howard Gardner who
then classified each one as representing one of his seven intelligences (Intrapersonal,
Logical/Mathematical, Visual/Spatial, Musical, Verbal/Linguistic, Kinesthetic, and Interpersonal).
Interestingly, one of the main reasons he chose those particular individuals as representatives of
each intelligence was due to the fact that they had all lived within a certain time period and had

the operating system that my computer uses, not to mention the very word processing program that I

William H. Gates, III was born into a wealthy Seattle family in 1955. His father is an attorney and
his mother is a University of Washington Regent and director of First Interstate Bank. Much of his

the Xbox. Microsoft has released four different versions so far. The Xbox is an all–entertainment
purpose console. From here you can do things such as play games (by yourself or with others),
download applications, and watch movies. From the Microsoft website, you can access the
Microsoft store. Here, you can buy movies, games, music, and other Microsoft products. The
Microsoft VR (virtual reality) is one of its most recent products. This lets users immerse themselves
in a different world. All these things were made by the company that Bill Gates started, and have
provided entertainment. If Bill Gates had not invented Microsoft, millions of people would be very
bored. Try to imagine a long weekend without any responsibilities that need to be taken care of, and
not having something to use your down–time on. You might be staring at the ceiling the whole
weekend! How boring would that be! Thanks to Bill Gates, nobody has to go through

This means that entrepreneurs can take advantage of this and make decisions without the government having to say much. Bill Gates created great software and thanks to him, anyone is able to access their computers, laptops, or smartphones easily. His hard work was paid off because he is one of the most successful businessmen of this generation. The government does not have to control or do anything to his company. Dropping out of college may have not sounded like a good idea, but Bill trusted in himself to strive for greatness and success with his close friend Paul. After some opportunities and time passed, in 1975 the two decided to invent Micro–Soft, a blend of a microcomputer and a software (Biography). Later in Microsoft's timeline, people were not buying it as much once they figured out that they could share it with friends for free. Gates caught on to this and wrote an open letter that basically informed that sharing the software was just like stealing it. Most people did not agree with him, but he continued to be determined and when accused or unfair business practice, he threatened with innovation. Gates and Allen soon broke away from MITS and were on their own with Microsoft. This did not discourage Bill; he took it on as a challenge and he moved Microsoft to Washington in 1978. Microsoft grew and began to rise in worth grossing $2.5 million in 1978 when Bill was only 23. The rise of Microsoft began when the IBM was in need of a software to run their forthcoming PC. Although he had not come up with and operating system that could run IBM's new PC, he bought a operating system that was similar to what IBM needed and sold it to them for the price he bought it for. This made Microsoft more valuable and revenue rose from $4 million to $16 million between the years 1978 and 1981. Soon after this, Bill shot out the idea of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over the span of the last year, Microsoft's most drastic change n price occurred in July of 2013. After steady growth prior to this date, Microsoft suffered from falling short of the expected profit by 11% in July's earnings. The biggest reason for this is because of Microsoft's new line of tablets, the surface, falling fall short of expectation after much investment by Microsoft into this product line. The loss in revenue from the peak of the stock price in April to now, can be attributed to the lack of competition in Microsoft's new gaming console, the Xbox One. Microsoft recently have decided to sell the console without their web–camera like, body tracking "Kinect" camera. The reason for this is to stay competitive against Sony's competing console, the PS4. As Xbox One's price was $499 with the Kinect camera and the PS4 was $399, Sony was severely outpacing Microsoft in sales. Microsoft's recent decision to sell without Kinect to drop the console's price from $499 to $399 was anticipated to raise the Stock's price past the year's peak, $41.42. Before someone quickly disagrees with it, it's definitely not poems, essays, and articles, I was actually good at writing computer codes. My interest in WRITING code, not just changed my life, it made the most of what I am today. It made me that popular geeky guy in school and college who fixes computers. It made me a Microsoft Student Partner, something which I am so proud of even today. It helped me to land a good job, so far lucky not going through the pain of being jobless. Oh, wait, shouldn't this be about the ACTUAL writing?. Just want to establish my geeky background, as they say, logic contradicts creativity. I am here contradicting the both. If you are wondering why this coding guy started blogging and all, I might call it self–realization. Did I realize that I have an amazing writing talent? No, I realized social network is not a right place for me to put on my thoughts. I realized that sharing to me is spamming for others. I realized many are interested in trolling than giving ... Despite having so many choices available to them, students must narrow their options to internships that will benefit them the most. Two particular Software Engineering internships that stand out among the others are Animusoft's Software Engineering internship and Microsoft's Explorer program. Based out of Miami, Florida, Animusoft promises students the chance to work on exciting team projects while learning about software engineering in a professional setting (Animusoft LLC). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Microsoft's approach differs in that students work on their project with a group of their peers rather than employees like in Animusoft's internship. This makes the internship serve as an enjoyable learning experience for students. Moreover, Microsoft strongly encourages students to be deeply involved in their project, as a result, students are assigned to a group by a group coordinator. Animusoft, however, assigns students their projects and expects them to work with Animusoft's junior and senior developers. Clearly, Microsoft wants to make students feel comfortable and not overwhelm with work that they may not be ready for. Animusoft, on the other hand, aims to treat students as though they are experienced employees. Marketing Apple Fanatics : Self Identity As a company, Apple is known throughout the globe for more than their high–quality and revolutionary products; Apple is a household name because of the publicity surrounding their devoted fans. These fans camp outside Apple Stores days before a product is released, sometimes just to preorder the product. They eat, sleep, and breathe Apple, earning them the name iSheep. Fans of other brands lack the same publicity, but they maintain the same level of devotion. Many people exclusively wear Nike or Jordan. Some may make a cup of Starbucks coffee a part of their morning routine. Over the years, brand wars have gained media attention and marked generations: Ford vs. Chevrolet, Microsoft vs. Apple, Coke vs. Pepsi, the list goes on. The bottom line is that major brands often create an obsession among their consumers that can be compared to religious worship, which in turn negatively affects cultural identity. According to David Glance, an author for The Washington Post, there are three interconnected factors that form Apple fanatics: Self–identity, Brand drivers, and Social identity. The first is fairly self–explanatory; people today base their lifestyles on their possessions, especially where their smartphone is concerned. People are also influenced by band drivers – "the perceived value of the product, the level of service that came with the purchase, ... and the overall level of trust placed in both the product and the company" (Glance). One competitive strategy that Microsoft may consider would be lowering the price of the software. Microsoft's current OS average cost is $200 but can be as high as six to seven hundred, while Apple currently offers theirs on average at about $50. Lowering the average cost of the OS could increase demand as well as sales ("Calibex", 1999–2015). Another competitive strategy that could be considered would be increasing the target audience. Microsoft has consent to make a bold play for the workplace while leaving the school market open for Apple. The idea was that if adults were using Microsoft OS at work all day, then they would be more likely to purchase the OS for their home PC. This was a good strategy in the beginning but may need to be changed for future sales. Microsoft will have major competition with Apple over the next five years because schools of all levels are expected to switch from computers to iPads. This may possibly hurt Microsoft's future sales because as the students enter the real world they will continue to depend on Apple for their future computer needs (Hughes, 2011). • 44. Microsoft Xbox Case Study Essay Question: Was Microsoft's decision to enter the game console business a good decision? Based on: Microsoft Xbox Online. University of Michigan Business School Case Study. The XBOX is now a 6th generation video game console that is manufactured by Microsoft. The machine itself was released in November of 2001, just in time for the 2001 Holiday Season in the United States, then subsequently worldwide. The decision to manufacture and release the system was Microsoft's first plunge into the gaming console market and designed to compete with the Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo's GameCUbe, and Sega's Dreamcast. By November of 2002, Microsoft launched the Xbox Live service that allowed players to play interactive games online (Gamer's Catch, 2006). Looking at the evolution of the system, however, we now know that the Xbox began to be discontinued in late 2005 (in Japan) and then in early 2007 in North America. The last game was released in August 2007, and even support for out–of–warranty consoles was discontinued in 2009, with all new faulty consoles replaced with Xbox 360. Xbox Live support was discontinued in April 2010 (Whitten, 2010). The Video–Gaming industry, though, is both fickle and highly competitive. Each season the major manufacturers reinvent the system in some way; modernize it in pieces, likely even though they could actually go from version 2 to 6 in one year. Students are facing a new business model where companies like adobe and Microsoft Office are making their software into a monthly payment instead of a one–time pay for the software. I spoke to my brother; he stated we just utilize it like we would automobiles or anything else like that. There is no denying the benefits of technology, however, I believe we should not get ahead of ourselves. Over the last fifty years our civilization has changed dramatically. Communication with friends and family has become as easy as the click of the mouse. Also we have saved countless trees by using electronic mail instead of paper mail. I agree that it is in our best interest to continue to use technology in the future. However, I feel that we all should get into the mindset of having a contingency plan in case we lose it. It is hard to go anywhere now days without interacting with a computer. A lot of jobs now require that you fill out applications on the internet. It has also become crucial that you have basic computer skills to be employed in any office setting. In 1994 only 3% of public schools had internet access. Choice Book Essay Recently, I read the book 'Gates, how Microsoft 's mogul reinvented an industry––and made himself the richest man in America ' by Paul Andrews and Stephen Manes in 1994. This was of course, during the time period when Apple was failing, and released an operating system, System 9, that nobody needed nor wanted in 1994. IBM sure wished they haven 't filed those separation papers now, when Microsoft stock stormed overhead, selling out of Windows 95 in less than two days globally. Over 2 million copies in fact, and the first publically available windows that didn 't run on top of MS–DOS, our ancient overlord. This book told the secret life of the ruler of the entire technology industry all the way to present day. The main author is one of my favorites, since he wrote many articles on PC world, and gave a somewhat honest review of Windows Vista, of course after Microsoft fired one of their top software engineers. Stephen Manes was even mentioned on the Personal Computers columnist for the Science Times section of the New York Times, and another on InformationWeek. At this time he was even a successful editor for PC Magazine, PC/Computing, PCjr, and Net guide. Marketing Computers also ranked him as one of the top 4 influential writes about the computer industry. Each of these creators (Freud, Einstein, Picasso, Stravinsky, Eliot, Graham, and Ghandi) was researched by Howard Gardner who then classified each one as representing one of his seven intelligences (Intrapersonal, Logical/Mathematical, Visual/Spatial, Musical, Verbal/Linguistic, Kinesthetic, and Interpersonal).
