Fossil Fuels Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Fossil Fuels" is both challenging and enlightening. The
complexity lies in navigating through vast amounts of scientific data, historical context, and
socio-economic implications. It requires a deep understanding of geological processes,
environmental science, energy policies, and their interconnectedness with global politics and
human civilization.
Crafting such an essay demands thorough research to comprehend the intricate balance between
the benefits and drawbacks of fossil fuels. It involves delving into the environmental impacts,
such as climate change and air pollution, as well as examining the socio-economic dependence
on these finite resources. Additionally, addressing potential alternatives and their feasibility adds
another layer of complexity to the discussion.
Moreover, formulating coherent arguments and presenting them in a persuasive manner requires
critical thinking and effective communication skills. Balancing factual information with
insightful analysis while maintaining a neutral stance can be particularly challenging given the
polarized nature of the discourse surrounding fossil fuels.
Despite the difficulties, writing an essay on this topic offers a unique opportunity to engage with
pressing global issues and contribute to meaningful discussions surrounding energy sustainability
and environmental stewardship.
In conclusion, exploring the multifaceted aspects of fossil fuels in an essay necessitates
diligence, critical thinking, and a nuanced understanding of the subject matter. It is a task that
not only challenges one's analytical abilities but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the
complexities of our energy landscape and its implications for the future.

Thomas Mor Museum Analysis
I chose to write about the art piece by Thomas Moran after going to the Museum of
Fine Arts in Houston. While walking through the buildings I saw a mass of artwork
that ranged from gold artifacts to paintings. I have to say that it was a lot to take in
but I chose the painting by Thomas Moran called the Stranded Ship on East Hampton
Beach. I liked the paintingwith the raging water crashing on the beach with the
stranded ship in the distance. I really like the contrast of the dark waves with the
white spray on the beach and white caps on the waves. It seems to tell how
dangerous the waves can be but there is a lot of flow. The waves seem to be choppy
but big and dangerous but I can feel the sense of movement and the windblowing. It...

Domestic altercation contributes the largest category of calls received by the po
lice annually. It is not surprising considering the vast number of womb who are
abused by their significant others. Domestic abuse is a hard pill to swallow, it is a
complex issue that plagues a society. Neither parties are likely to come forth with the
traumatic details. It is easy to read on the internet about the perils of domestic
violence. The common sto ries of a man abuses woman, a woman kills child, for all

with a total of three to four million women being battered each year by their
respective intimate partners (Protection Against Crime, 2002).The victims of
domestic abuse by law enforcement officers endure a special kind of torture, that
others in that similar situation do not. The victims are most likely to endure the
dangers of professionals who are experienced in firearms, knowledge and training of

The Background And Nature Of The Movement For

Garibaldi went to the USA, Austria backed out of the war therefore handing
Lombardy to Sardinia. Treaty of Zurich ends northern Italy tension. Tuscany,
Modena, and Parma seek annexation by Sardinia. Italy was scattered during the
1850s but came together in the 1860s and 70s to really become a world power.
Piedmont became the unlikely unifying power of Italy. Victor Emmanuel II was the
driving force. Sardinia fought against Russia in the Crimean war and won. Sardinia
was overall different because while being small they managed to get a lot done to
further the unification of Italy.
Explain the background and nature of the movement for national unification in Italy.
What role had Mazzini played? What had happened in 1848 to the unification
movement?
After the fall of Napoleon, Italy was controlled mostly by Austria and the Habsburgs.
The movement for national unification in Italy started with revolts and demanding
change to the kings. Nationalists were influenced by other people in other countries
that had successfully revolted, for example like in Spain in 1820. The Kingdom of
Two Sicilies was conquered and convinced the king to establish a new constitution.
Mazzini helped with Italian unification by creating a secret society called Young
Italy. The goal of Mazzini s new group was to promote nationalism and convince
people why there should be a unified Italy. In 1848, revolutions all over Italy occurred
because nationalists did not want Austria to have control over them.

Module 7 I feel as if the Falling Water House had a greater impact on todays
society. But only for Western Pennsylvania, growing up in eastern Pennsylvania I
never once heard of The Falling Water House or Frank Lloyd Wright. Not until i
came to Pittsburgh and now i have heard about it dozens of times in the past year,
multiple times even this week. Most dramatic I would say is the Sagrada Familia, it
has that gothic beautiful architecture that just gives a sense of uniqueness and
wonder. It is dramatic not only because of its beauty but also because the long time it
took to be worked on. I think most mysterious is hard to choose because neither really

If i had the opportunity to bring someone to see one i would definitely choose the
Sagrada Familia because it is so unique and gorgeous, and because it is in Barcelona
Spain and i would give anything to go back to Spain especially Barcelona where
everything is just beautiful and detailed. But realistically i would love to take my
boyfriend to the Falling Water House, and i have been looking into it recently. You
see pictures on instagram or Facebook of couples going there and taking cute
selfies but i see the beautiful nature behind them, and the architecture sitting above
a waterfall. I would love to be able to go experience it for myself instead of just
seeing pictures of it. The Sagrada Familia definitely caught my attention right off
the bat in the video. It has been in construction for over 133 years and counting. It
is so intricate and advanced that it is taking centuries to build and that is just
something that shouldn t be overlooked. You don t hear about that kind of stuff in
your history classes in high school, or even in art history at a vocational high school
where you major in graphic design. Growing up i never once heard of the Sagrada

Use Of Similes In Dante s Inferno
IV Author s use of Language/ Literary Devices:
Personification: Dante s twist on personification is evident throughout his work, as
it was extremely common in this era. Within the first Canto we can already imagine
the words vividly, Upward I looked, and I beheld its shoulders Vested already with
that planet s rays Which leadeth others right by every road. In this example Dante is
actually speaking about a mountain s foot, which he has just stumbled upon. When
he says vested already with the planet s rays, he is referring to the sun s light.
Archetypes: Dante uses archetypes* when he is explaining the different circles.
*An archetype is a typical example of a certain person or thing. EX
Similes: Dante s Inferno is overflowing with similes, such as the blood that flows
from the snapped twig in the suicide woods is an example, it compares the normal
sap to the thickness of blood.
Homeric Similes: Dante s use of epic, or homeric similes are much more common
among his written work in the Inferno. Since he likes to add lots of details that
elongate his sentences, they aren t hard to find in the book. As chanting cranes will
form a line in the air, so I saw souls come uttering cries (V.39). This simile juxtaposes
the souls of Hell crying in agony to chanting cranes, as they are both protesting
something in their own way.
Epithet: Dante often uses epithets to provide the reader with definitive descriptions
of characters or the setting. Great connoisseur of sin (V.37). This text alludes to
Minos, the king of Crete, who constructed a beast called the Minotaur, who assailed
people in the Labyrinth.
Imagery: Imagery is an important theme through Dante s Inferno that Dante uses
frequently to give us images to describe ..my guide, Embraced my neck and kissed
me on the face.. (VIII.40 41). The imagery used in these lines provide an image of
how Virgil treats Dante.
V Motif to Develop Theme:
In Dante s Inferno the recurring theme in the literary work is the punishment of sins,
and the severity that the people in hell suffer as a consequence. Pierro delle Vigne
explains the actions of that which: led him to hell, suicide, and how it condemned
him to eternity in hell as a tree trunk. He confesses, My
What Is My Ideal Country Essay
When I picture the ideal society, it is everything that my homeland, Sweden, is
not. Everything that I hate about Sweden, everything that makes me dislike this
country, does not exist there at all. In the land of my dreams, the weather is warm
and the sun is shining at all times. On the days where the sun shines too bright, you
can go for a swim in the turquoise ocean to cool off. That is mainly what I would
like to do after long days of work, just go to the ocean, lie on the beach with white,
fine sand and coconut trees surrounding the premises. There are also many activities
that keeps the visitors entertained, which easily happens when you go to the beach
everyday. There are bouncy castles in the ocean near the beach, you can go surfing,
snorkelling to check out the magnificent sea life and you can also rent a luxurious
boat for as long as you wantfor a vacation on the sea. That really makes it easy to
keep life constantly interesting. One activity that probably is my favorite one, is to

This combined with the friendly people and the lovely nature makes this country a
popular tourist destination. The shopping is also a very much appreciated tourist
attraction. The shopping areas in the country can be compared to places like New
York and London. There is also no language barrier for english speakers here since
the mother tongue here is english.
I would like to see my utopia as a combination of Switzerland regarding economy
and infrastructure, Australia or Thailand with its tropical and beautiful nature and
friendly people, and New Yoek with its shopping and city life. These are some of
the countries in the world that I love the most and combined, they are absolutely
perfect. In other words, the country I just described, is a country I would love to
spend the rest of my life

Traditional vs. Flexible benefit plans
Employees benefit plan is non wage compensation, which means employees
sacrifice part of their wages or salaries to exchange some other form of benefits. The
purpose of benefit plans is to increase the security of employees, which consequently
reduces work absenteeism and promotes job satisfaction. Some of the benefits in the
plan include: retirement benefit plans, employee assistance plans, and group
insurance (health, dental, life etc.). However, the scope of benefit coverage has
gradually been expanded; from traditional benefit plans to flexible benefit plans. Both
of these two benefit plans have different contents and emphases. Nowadays, about 60
percent of North American organizations prefer to use flexible benefit plans.
Traditional benefit plans were desired to meet the needs of the nuclear family (Cole
amp; Flint, 2004), which is defined as an employed male head of household,
nonworking spouse,
Bailey And Casey
Question: Bailey and Casey spend a lot of time interacting online. They re
Facebook friends and follow each other on Twitter and Instagram, as well as
playing online games together. Unbeknownst to Casey, though, Bailey is not a
human being. Bailey is a computer program. Given that Bailey is maintaining this
sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online
friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we justified in
concluding that Bailey has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind.
Objection 1: Because Bailey is a computer program, she has no mind. The entirety
of her existence has been created in a lab and could easily be stored on a chip. Bailey
s entity occupies no physical space, has no body, and has no actual brain. Due to
this, Bailey is not able to be conscious because... Show more content on

However, since she is capable of simultaneously maintaining relationships with
numerous people besides Casey, Bailey does not have a mind because human beings
are unable to do the same thing. Response: Despite the fact that Bailey is not a
living, breathing human being but rather a highly emotional and intelligent entity, I
respond that Bailey does have a mind. According to Rene Descartes, a being s mind
is vastly different from its matter. In Bailey s case, she has no physical body but is
apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human like emotions
using her artificial mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in
the sense that artificially intelligent software programs are capable of having
emotions and complex relationships with human beings. Such a machine as
Samantha in Her could have very well passed the Turing Test, which measures a
machine s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that of a
human. Regardless,
The Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental
Disorders...
Numerous studies have been conducted on the diagnostic features and potential
definitions of autism, and the accompanying developmental, social and behavioral
deficits found in individuals diagnosed with autism. The various editions of the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM 5; American
Psychiatric Association, 2013) have changed in their definitions and diagnostic
criteria of autismover time. In past editions, Autistic Disorder, Asperger s Disorder
and Pervasive Developmental Disorder were listed as separate disorders. However,
in the DSM 5, which is the current edition of the DSM, Autism Spectrum Disorder
(ASD) is the name of the disorder that encompasses the diagnostic features and
definitions of those three neurodevelopmental disorders. Individuals previously
diagnosed with any of those three disorders are now to be given the diagnosis of
ASD. The definition and diagnostic criteria of autism and other neurodevelopmental
disorders have changed so much over time because screening and diagnosing autism
is very difficult for a number of reasons, which will be more thoroughly discussed in
this paper. This paper will examine the diagnostic criteria, prevalence and risk
factors, most effective forms of treatment and intervention, and life impacts on
individuals and families of Autism Spectrum Disorder through the review of the
DSM 5 and several peer reviewed journal articles.
Diagnostic Criteria According to the DSM 5, there are several
Classical Opera Research Paper
The Baroque period and the Classical period gave us some of the most famous
operas that are still preformed today. Although most of the Baroque style operas
died out and are no longer preformed today they gave us the base and style of the
Classical operas that we watch and listen to in this day and age. There are many
differences and similarities in these to styles of operas. The similarities come to pass
from the Classical operaadopting many of the same styles as the Baroqueopera that
came before it. As for the differences between these two operas, Baroque operas
played to a higher class people and were almost always in Italian. Classical played to
more of the middle class and through a style of comic opera were sung in the
language of the audience.

Most of the operas were in Italian but few performances were done in English and
German. Purcell s Dido and Aeneas was one of these operas performed in English
during the Baroque period gaining a lot popularity with its dark and emotional aria
songs in England. Baroque operas were mainly story lines of great heroes, Greek
gods, and spiritual stories of miracles. These stories changed drastically during the
Classical period of opera.
The Classical period of Opera is the most popular of operas we see today. This period
of classic opera started around 1750 and ended around the mid 1800 s. This style of
opera reached to the largest group of the public than any other opera, which is why it
changed so much from the Baroque period.
Where the Baroque style was for the rich and higher class, the Classical opera
reached out to the middle class as well expanding and changing opera as we know
it. The need for simplicity was great at this time due to the new cliental. This need
gave way to the very popular comic opera. Comic opera was in the language of the
audience as to better understand the story line. The story lines also changed
Vermeer s Hat Analysis
The globe during the seventeenth century to the individual eye was a limited horizon
untapped by man s natural tendency to discover. Men in Europe during this era
decided to take advantage of their unfamiliarity with the world, of which their fellow
countrymen took advantage in exploring. By the thousands, Western European
countries took initiative and started building larger and larger boats to satisfy their
internal need to explore, these men took the first step in reforming which would
ultimately build and destroy the planet. The outcome of global trade on the most part
proved to satisfy the wealthy individuals while the majority of the participants were

It was crucial for nations to adapt to ideas and practices of those who were already
excelling in global trade to gain opportunity for success. The Dutch culture was
advantageous to incorporate fishing in their culture as a method of adaptation, in
response to the growth of the fishing industry during the seventeenth century. Fishing
Herring in the North Sea instantly became a trend the Dutch had to take over in
order to prosper financially (Brook 12). In addition, tobacco, as Brooks depicts,
gained popularity over night allowing cultures to freely experience this new product
that gained liking instantaneously (Brook 126). Also, in the far east, China s
porcelain ceramics gained popularity among the upper class in Europe who saw these
plates as luxury items (Brook 61). The value of these products were determined
solely based on their influence in the cultures and around the globe. Conflicts with
whether or not all of these new ideas challenged cultural identity erupted. Individuals
believed the outcome of global trade masked the traditions of cultures that were
struggling to preserve their heritage. Then consequences appeared about these widely
recognized commodities. Health concerns started to abruptly appear from the
consistent use of tobacco, famine arose in areas where herring was no longer there,

The French were upset because the United States claimed neutrality but favored
Great Britain in the Jay treaty of 1796. The French retaliated by taking over United
States Merchant ships. All relations with France were terminated. An unofficial
war was in the mist which is now referred to as the Quasi War. John Adams attempt
at solving this problem was the XYZ Affair. The United States had to pay a very
large bribe for the representatives sent to even begin to speak about negotiations
with the French. When the United States Navy got involved in defending the
nation the Treaty of Mortefontaine was created in 1800 to prevent an actual war.
In order to further protect the nation from foreign threat Adams passed the Alien
and Sedition Acts of 1798. These laws were very questionable and did not last
long. They allowed the president to deport anyone he saw who posed a threat to
the nation, made it harder to become a citizen, and put limits on new voters. John
Quincy Adams was more or less successful domestically. While in office John
Quincy Adams promoted the building of roads and canals, banks, and universities.
The Erie Canal was completed on October, 26, 1825. Adams had many critics when
he passed a tariff bill that raised prices on a lot of goods. Some people even referred
to it as the Tariff of Abominations . Adams accomplished much more thorough

Vertebral Trauma Paper
Trauma to the Neck and Thoracic regions presents the highest rates of mortality in
trauma patients. Mortality from PNT originates from exsanguinating hemorrhage and
24 hours delay in the diagnosis of visceral injuries being the esophageal injuries the
most lethal of all (1). Surgeons have learned surgical fundaments of trauma
management from military experience probably since the dawn of human history (3),
but also, we know that it is difficult to draw conclusions for civil trauma management
from studies with military settings. Since World War I when most patients were
managed expectantly, mortality was reported approximately 11% the principal
causes were exsanguination and airway obstruction (4). Dr. Fogelman in 1956
proposed early neck exploration for penetrating neck injuries lowering mortality rates
to 6%. This concept leads to an early surgical therapy and neck exploration for
suspected vascular injuries. Based on these experiences mandatory... Show more

being defined bellow the jugular notch. Zone II was described between the latter
and the angle of the mandible and Zone III up to the base of the skull. This was
illustrated in one of the most utilized figures in trauma literature (Figure 1). The
impact of this division in surgical practice was such that trauma surgeons easily
adopted it as the classification of PNT until today, despite a fundamental anatomical
error: Zone I of the Neck actually lies inside the Thorax, not in the neck itself. A
classification originally used for carotid trauma was used to classify the vast array of
penetrating injuries to the neck, a use for which it was not designed in the first
Uses of Nanotechnology
INTRODUCTION: In recent times, infectious diseases continue to pose a major
healthcare issue in developing countries making it imperative to develop logical
solutions for robust and rapid diagnosis and treatment of these infections. Traditional
techniques suffer from limitations, including laborious specimen processing, bulky
instrumentation, and slow result readout. In view of the urgency for sensitive,
specific, robust and rapid diagnostics, numerous advancements have been made in the
area of nanotechnologyto aid this effort. This methodical analysis will focus on the
recent developments in nanotechnology based diagnostics of bacterial pathogens in
developing countries. The aim of this review article is to describe the... Show more

Pathogen detection though surface marker recognition Pathogens express different
markers on their cell surface that are exposed to the extracellular fluid which serve as
important pathogen associated markers in nanotechnology. Nanotechnology has
utilized highly specific antibodies as targeting ligands in a wide array of diagnostic
modalities (2). One such method includes the fluorescence based quantification of
bacteria using antibody conjugated dye doped silica nanoparticles (5). After minimum
sample preparation, brief incubation with the specimen, and removal of unbound
nanoparticles, detection of a single bacterium if E. coli O157:H7 was achieved in less
than 20 minutes compared to quantification by traditional plate counting (5) In
addition, other bacterial species such as Salmonella and Bacillus were quantified,
indicating that this method can be used for both Gram positive and Gram negative
microorganisms (5)
. The clinical utility is significant, especially for the detection of infectious agents
with very low infectious doses and high lethality. The diagnostic ability to detect a
single bacterial cell within 20 minutes with significant specificity greatly dwarfs the

If you were to talk to me today, you would never know that I was once the child
who veered off the straight and narrow path. In those distant years of my past I was
a problem child, with the notion that school was my playground. A failing grade
use to mean that I was having fun in a prison with bleak white walls. When I was
written up and sent to the principal s office I knew that I would get to go home. But
the cheerfulness that I felt, up until the point that my parents arrived, quickly
vanished when I saw the tears in my mother s eyes each time. This scenario lasted
for the better part of my elementary school days and followed me to my new school
when I moved. My mother s tears haunted me at night, the joy I felt, when I got in...

These new habits continued and I continued to excel. Before I knew it, the end of
the school year had arrived and it was time for the award ceremony. As I sat there,
watching all the other students receive awards, I never thought my name would be

like it was yesterday... Now we will be handing out the Top Ten Percent awards.
That girl next to me is chatting away but hey, it is not like I need to hear what the

they just called? It can t be. Why is that chatty girl next to me tugging on my arm?
Oh, that was my name they called. Stand up girl, move them feet. Okay, you are
almost there. It is in your hands. Now thank the nice man and go sit back down. That
is right, slowly. Do not trip. Oh my goodness, this has really happened. According to
those big bold words you made the top ten percent of the seventh grade. You go girl.
What is that I feel?... At that moment, as the feeling of accomplishment touched me
to my very soul, I knew that my life had finally turned around. In seventh and eighth
grade I had been content with making the top ten percent, but I had reached that goal

Video Games And The Field Of Communication
This week s episode of COMMPENDIUM featured guest Rory McGloin, an
individual whom Professor Stifano has known for the past ten years. Mr. McGloin is
a media researcher, a director of undergraduate studies, and an instructor for the
University of Connecticut s persuasion and public speaking courses. He developed an
affinity for the field of communicationafter taking an interpersonal course as an
undergraduate at Stonehill College. However, it was not until Mr. McGloin took a
media research course in his junior year that he decided to pursue this area. Most
importantly, he recalled how people questioned the future and purpose of the field of
communication. Specifically, Mr. McGloin s research is on violence in video games
and how it changes the perception of the game as well as one s behavior after
playing. Additional topics within this research are immersion, mental models, and
interaction and involvement with various technological interfaces. His research and
the evolution of communication mentioned earlier are basically tied together.
Moreover, it relates to what we are currently studying, which is mass communication
and how technologies evolved.
As previously mentioned, this podcast talks about how communication has expanded
through technological advancement, which I think is a key point. Mr. McGloin
elaborates on this by explaining how far along health communication has come. First
off, individuals had limited information regarding any aspect of their health, such as
Unbalance Between Beetles And Conifers
Marked by its swampy woodlands the boreal forest biome is located in the
northern part of Canada and Russia. Evidently, the boreal forest ecosystem is
comprised of many different species such as wolf, lynx, moose, hare, marten,
conifer, and grass (Biome Explorer, 2012). Unfortunately, global warming is a
scenario that could cause the genetic diversity of the boreal forest population to be
severely damaged. For example, if this biomewere to experience an increase in
temperature it would positively impact bark beetles causing outbreaks which in turn
becomes detrimental to the trees within this ecosystemsuch as the conifers. Therefore,
global warming would cause unbalance between the bark beetles and the conifers,
since the increase of bark
King Louis XIV, The King Of France
King Louis XIV was the king of France from 1638 to 1715, he reigned longer than
any other European monarch. King Louis XIV was one of the most powerful
absolute monarchs in the history of Europe. He was thought of as the quintessence
of what an absolute monarch should be. Throughout this paper, I will discuss the
many important aspects of King Louis s reign and some of the influential things
he did and their effects on society at the time. One way he achieved his absolute
power was through the divine right of kings. The Divine right of kings is defined
as the doctrine that the right of rule derives directly from God, not from the
consent of the people. King Louis XIV used the fact that people couldn t deny any
of his privileges because if they did it would be like they were denying God
himself to his advantage. Jean Domat, a French jurist, wrote in his publication on
Social Order and Absolute Monarchy , Since government is necessary for the
public good, and God Himself has established it, it is consequently also necessary
for those who are subject to government, to be submissive and obedient. For
otherwise they would resist God Himself, and government, which should be the
bond of peace and unity that brings about the public good, would become an
occasion for divisions and disturbances that would cause its downfall. Jean Domat
wrote mostly of royal absolutism; King Louis XIV regarded his work very highly.
This evidence proves that during this time, many believed that if
Essay On The Han Dynasty
The Qin Dynasty ended with the death of Shihuangdi and was followed by the Han
Dynasty after Lui Bang s army conquered the Qin Dynasty.. The Han Dynasty is
known as one of the greatest eras recognized in China. Lui Bang founded the Han
dynasty in 206 BCE; it was the second dynasty of China. He started a bureaucracy
founded on intellect (Gill). Confucianismwas the main philosophy at this time,
confucianism deals primarily with moral conduct and ethical living and is often
categorized as an ethical system. It emphasizes the earthly, not the heavenly (What).
Once paper was invented literature became very popular. This prompted Sima Olan
to write the Book of History. This book contains the first record of Chinese history.
Porcelain was also new at this time and became a very popular (Western).
Fifth Century BCE is commonly referred to as the Golden Age of Athens. Athens
culture strongly revolved around trade. The Athenians traded all throughout the
Aegean and Mediterranean (Athens). Athens has provided more narratives, plays, and
other literature than any other Grecian State, such as the Iliad by Homer. Because of
the ample amount of writings Ancient Athens is typically studied from the Athenian
point of view (The Rise). Greek artists portrayed a sense of harmony through out their

Atria Staff Requirement
Opinion of the Qualifications of the Staff. 1. Atria does not require registered
nurses to be on staff. 2. To my knowledge, registered nurses (RN) play an important
role in administrating medication to patients and are next in command under
doctors. I think having my mother in a memory care facility with an RN on staff
would give me a sense of ease and I would feel as if my mother is in good hands. I
think as an 80 year old my mother must be taking a few medications and if
medications were not working properly or needed adjustment I would trust an RN
to understand changes in my mother prescription would need to be made. It seems

diversity. I think all the options are western and very American; it lacks comfort. It
seems fancy and delicious for a few days, but I know eventually my mother would
start to miss Fijian Indian food. Also, like I mentioned before, my mother does not
eat pork or beef and she is vegetarian only on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Both
these things are an important part of our religion and culture; however I am unsure if
the staff would be able to accommodate my mother s particular eating habits. I think
this would be a great challenge for my mother. 2. Another challenge for me would be
not having my mother in a homier place. I desire my mother to have comfort and be
around an environment she is comfortable with. I think Atria is really pretty but it is
obviously more oriented towards pleasing clients rather than residents. I want my
mother to be in place that is resident centered rather than concerned with the outward
Literary Analysis of The Dancing Bear and Planting a...
Analysis of William Frederick Witherington s short story The Dancing Bear
1.
The initial impression gathered from the passage is bizarre and very dreamlike,
perhaps chiefly because it is an excerpt from a novel or a larger literary work. Upon
further analysis, the passage develops an eerily violent tone. The events appear to
take place in the home of Dieter Bethge, during a stormy night while he is sleeping.
Immediately the rain is described as falling with sodden fury , introducing the
negative tone. Shortly after this description, Mrs. Hax adopts the persona of an
animal stalking its prey. She methodically trimmed the glass out of the frame eerily
without emotion, despite the fact that she is on her way to cause harm to Dieter, as ...

Again, after the paragraphs describing Dieters dream end, the passage is written in a
dreamlike manner. It seems that Bethge mistakes Mrs. Hax for the dancing bear,
which is strange because her actions in the first paragraph are nothing like the
graceful actions of the bear, and she does not want to fold him onto the fragrant,
brilliant fur in a warm embrace but rather harm him.
Analysis of Dana Gioia s Poem Planting a Sequoia 1. (b) The tone of the Planting a
Sequoia prose passage is reflectively melancholy. It is not one of pure agonizing
sadness, yet there are underling depressing qualities to the author s words. The
purpose of the passage is to describe the death an individual, presumably the first
born son of the narrator. The narrator is speaking to the Sequoia that he is planting.
Each of the stanzas switch from a mood of death and a mood of life. The rain
blacken[ing] the horizon , the dull gray skies and the old year coming to an end all
work together to create the melancholy mood. The following stanza switches to a
newer and livelier mood, including the celebration of the first son s birth, earth
having more life to bear , the description of a green sapling rising among the twisted
apple boughs and the promise of new fruit in other autumns . The promise of ne fruit
describes the symbolic purpose of the tree. Although a life is lost, there is hope for
future fruit , or life in the future. The third stanza begins with the
Why People Choose The College That They Attend
Is Two Greater Than Four There are many reasons why people choose the college
that they attend, but is a two year college better than a four year college? This is the
question Liz Addison answers in her chapter Two Years Better Than Four (Pg. 255
58). Addison was enrolled in Virginia Community College, Southern Maine
Community College, and Royal Veterinary College. She has two degrees; her first
degree in biology and the second degree is from Royal Veterinary College and is
now a veterinarian in Virginia. When discussing this topic, there are substantial
amounts of variables to consider before picking a position on if two years is better
than four because of how diverse we are from one another. In the chapter, Addison
addresses, on how everyone is eligible for a two year college, however, that is not
the case with a four year college. This is crucial because it gives everyone the
opportunity to have that college experience if they were denied or don t meet the
requirements of a four year college. For some students, from many backgrounds,
would never breathe the college experience if it were not for community college.
Addison explains. Since the recession, students and parents had to cut back on
spending. This includes their spendings towards a degree. If it weren t for two year
colleges, many Americans would not be getting an education, nor would they earn a
degree. Because a two year college is much more affordable compared to four year
colleges, less fortunate
The Importance Of Commercial Buildings In The Ottoman
Empire
Secondly, commercial buildings were so popular in Cairo because it was already a
major trading point for the Ottoman Empire. The different type of commercial
buildings were wikalas, khans, qaisariyas, suqs, and funduqs. Ismail explains that
these type of buildings existed since the Mameluke Empire period, but they were kept
being built during the Ottoman Empire, with some minor changes.
The wikalas were buildings located within the city walls and had a design that had
shops on the ground floor that faced onto courtyards and a rab system (living
quarters) on the upper floors. Some of the shops from the ground level had special
designs in their facades that allowed the merchants to display the imported goods
that they had for sale. The building had only one entrance per each facade, and
each of them led to the open central courtyard that aside from shops, had
storerooms for the merchant s goods. To get access to the upper floors, people had
to use staircases that were usually placed in a corner of the facades (Ismail 2005).
The khans and funduqs were buildings that had combined functions of hostel and
trading centre and were used mostly by traveling merchants and visitors to the city.
These buildings were built mostly near the trading routes outside the city, and they
required towers for extra protection, however, some of them were located inside the
city and did not required to be fortified because of it. A major difference is that these
buildings did not had shops in

A notable quote in Donnie Darko would be when Kitty Farmer (Beth Grant)
emotionally admits to Donnie s mother, Sometimes I doubt your commitment to

these lines quoted, but most fans will also act out some scenes to show their love
of the film. These fans may also display their devotion through social media by
posting pictures of the films or references to them online. Social Networking sites
like Tumblr also allow for fans to discuss and dissect these films with the help of
stills or gifs from the films, animated GIFs and GIF sets allowed fandom users to
take key scenes of TV shows and post them for discussion, creation, and adaptation.
By having the fans do this the film itself might get a wider audience since others
may be influenced to watch it. This can be clearly seen in both Donnie Darko and The

This is because I was able to observe a larger amount of people rather if I did an

Daniel D Addario s Article Everything Is Trolling Now
Daniel D Addario wrote an article called Everything is Trolling Now, which is
about internet trolling. Trolling is generally regarded as an intentionally offensive
remark or action against a person or group of people who hold a certain ideology
in order to get a reaction (421). However, D Addario takes note in the article of an
apparent oversaturation of the word troll. Individuals will call many different things
a form of trolling, to the point that it seems as though just holding an opinion is
enough to be considered as a personal attack against other people. D Addario even
mocks this by occasionally placing quotation marks around the word troll, to call into
question a particular instance of its usage. Through sourcing, comparisons,... Show

He uses this metaphor to address what might be the underlying problem in regards
to trolling: People don t want to actually think critically of their own opinions or
the opinions of others. We all simply assume that we re right in our taste of music,
for example, because it s what we ve always enjoyed, and we can t imagine a world
where we are wrong in our tastes. But, despite the complexity of the internet and
the amount of data, opinions, and news articles floating around, we haven t
mentally evolved to be able to process all of that. Not just in the respect that there
is so much on the internet to begin with, but also in the respect that we ll read an
opinion article and not seriously attempt to reconcile what we read in the article
both to what know and what we believe. We want to believe that we re right either
all or most of the time, but don t want to put in the effort to prove that we actually
are correct. We don t want to put in effort we don t think that we need to put in. As
long as humanity continues to try not to really think about what we believe, the word

Lewis And The Silent Planet

C.S. Lewis and the Influence of Dante in Out of the Silent Planet All throughout
Lewis novels there is evidence that clearly connects the themes and symbolism from
other aspects of traditional Christian literature both during and before he began
writing. One of the most distinct examples of this occurring within Lewis works is
the influence that Dante had on the concepts that he reflects on while conveying
thoughts to his readers. This is specifically more notable a connection between Dante
and Lewis when you examine the parallels that take place within Lewis Out of the
Silent Planet and Dante s Inferno. The literary tradition left behind by Dante is both
one able to influence the thoughts of others and to teach the value of Christianity
through within a fictional environment. This is similar to Lewis Space Trilogy in
more ways than one, some of which include Ransom journey in place of the pilgrim
as he travels through strange, new, territory in order to reach his goal, and the use of
Malacandra to represent the levels of Hell. Each book in the Space Trilogy continues
to expand on the possible influence that Dante may have had on Lewis while he wrote
these books and aims to show Christians the truth behind the Dante s thoughts
through the use of science fiction. Many elements found within Dante s Inferno are
reintroduced through new ideas by Lewis within Out of the Silent Planet in order to
convey Christian thoughts and

The Miller Analogies Test (Mat) Is Utilized For Graduate
The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is utilized for graduate school admissions by
university programs throughout the United States and it is presently regulated by
Pearson. Dr. W. S. Miller of the University of Minnesota created The MAT in 1926.
Throughout the 1920s and 1930s the test was refined and finally administered to all
incoming graduate students at the University of Minnesota in 1940. In 1947, The
Psychological Corporation took over publication of the test to manage how it was
developed and how it is used on a considerable level (Meagher, Ybarra, etc., 2017).
The publisher of the MAT has always followed formal test construction procedures to
ensure that the test forms maintain the same basic item types as the test before it,

Percentile ranks acquired prior to January 2017 were based on the performance of the
normative group, which consisted of participants taking the MAT for the first time
from January 1st, 2008 through December 31st, 2011(Meagher, Ybarra, etc., 2017).
It does not cost anything to administer the test because someone cannot choose to
administer the test individually, the MAT is only administered at certain Controlled
Testing Centers (CTC). Controlled Testing Centers are usually colleges and
universities that are testing students that are trying to get into graduate school. The fee
to take the exam varies from CTC to CTC but it averages to around $75. Other fees
include alternative testing site which is $149, the replacement score report fee is
$25 per report, additional transcript fee $25 per transcript, and the score verification
fee is $35 (Fees and Optional Services, 2017).
The MAT has pronounced availability to take the test. The MAT does not have any
fixed national test dates. Every CTC decides when and how often it administers the
test. Participants plan directly with the CTC on when it is most convenient for them
to take the test. The CTCs are set up so that the colleges and universities can test their
own students. All tests administers are provided with a manual of directions to
guarantee adherence to the standardized administration procedures

Fossil Fuels Essay.pdf

  • 1. Fossil Fuels Essay Writing an essay on the topic of "Fossil Fuels" is both challenging and enlightening. The complexity lies in navigating through vast amounts of scientific data, historical context, and socio-economic implications. It requires a deep understanding of geological processes, environmental science, energy policies, and their interconnectedness with global politics and human civilization. Crafting such an essay demands thorough research to comprehend the intricate balance between the benefits and drawbacks of fossil fuels. It involves delving into the environmental impacts, such as climate change and air pollution, as well as examining the socio-economic dependence on these finite resources. Additionally, addressing potential alternatives and their feasibility adds another layer of complexity to the discussion. Moreover, formulating coherent arguments and presenting them in a persuasive manner requires critical thinking and effective communication skills. Balancing factual information with insightful analysis while maintaining a neutral stance can be particularly challenging given the polarized nature of the discourse surrounding fossil fuels. Despite the difficulties, writing an essay on this topic offers a unique opportunity to engage with pressing global issues and contribute to meaningful discussions surrounding energy sustainability and environmental stewardship. In conclusion, exploring the multifaceted aspects of fossil fuels in an essay necessitates diligence, critical thinking, and a nuanced understanding of the subject matter. It is a task that not only challenges one's analytical abilities but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the complexities of our energy landscape and its implications for the future. • 2. Thomas Mor Museum Analysis I chose to write about the art piece by Thomas Moran after going to the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. While walking through the buildings I saw a mass of artwork that ranged from gold artifacts to paintings. I have to say that it was a lot to take in but I chose the painting by Thomas Moran called the Stranded Ship on East Hampton Beach. I liked the paintingwith the raging water crashing on the beach with the stranded ship in the distance. I really like the contrast of the dark waves with the white spray on the beach and white caps on the waves. It seems to tell how dangerous the waves can be but there is a lot of flow. The waves seem to be choppy but big and dangerous but I can feel the sense of movement and the windblowing. It... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. The Background And Nature Of The Movement For National... Garibaldi went to the USA, Austria backed out of the war therefore handing Lombardy to Sardinia. Treaty of Zurich ends northern Italy tension. Tuscany, Modena, and Parma seek annexation by Sardinia. Italy was scattered during the 1850s but came together in the 1860s and 70s to really become a world power. Piedmont became the unlikely unifying power of Italy. Victor Emmanuel II was the driving force. Sardinia fought against Russia in the Crimean war and won. Sardinia was overall different because while being small they managed to get a lot done to further the unification of Italy. Explain the background and nature of the movement for national unification in Italy. What role had Mazzini played? What had happened in 1848 to the unification movement? After the fall of Napoleon, Italy was controlled mostly by Austria and the Habsburgs. The movement for national unification in Italy started with revolts and demanding change to the kings. Nationalists were influenced by other people in other countries that had successfully revolted, for example like in Spain in 1820. The Kingdom of Two Sicilies was conquered and convinced the king to establish a new constitution. Mazzini helped with Italian unification by creating a secret society called Young Italy. The goal of Mazzini s new group was to promote nationalism and convince people why there should be a unified Italy. In 1848, revolutions all over Italy occurred because nationalists did not want Austria to have control over them.

  • 11. Use Of Similes In Dante s Inferno IV Author s use of Language/ Literary Devices: Personification: Dante s twist on personification is evident throughout his work, as it was extremely common in this era. Within the first Canto we can already imagine the words vividly, Upward I looked, and I beheld its shoulders Vested already with that planet s rays Which leadeth others right by every road. In this example Dante is actually speaking about a mountain s foot, which he has just stumbled upon. When he says vested already with the planet s rays, he is referring to the sun s light. Archetypes: Dante uses archetypes* when he is explaining the different circles. *An archetype is a typical example of a certain person or thing. EX Similes: Dante s Inferno is overflowing with similes, such as the blood that flows from the snapped twig in the suicide woods is an example, it compares the normal sap to the thickness of blood. Homeric Similes: Dante s use of epic, or homeric similes are much more common among his written work in the Inferno. Since he likes to add lots of details that elongate his sentences, they aren t hard to find in the book. As chanting cranes will form a line in the air, so I saw souls come uttering cries (V.39). This simile juxtaposes the souls of Hell crying in agony to chanting cranes, as they are both protesting something in their own way. Epithet: Dante often uses epithets to provide the reader with definitive descriptions of characters or the setting. Great connoisseur of sin (V.37). This text alludes to Minos, the king of Crete, who constructed a beast called the Minotaur, who assailed people in the Labyrinth. Imagery: Imagery is an important theme through Dante s Inferno that Dante uses frequently to give us images to describe ..my guide, Embraced my neck and kissed me on the face.. (VIII.40 41). The imagery used in these lines provide an image of how Virgil treats Dante. V Motif to Develop Theme: In Dante s Inferno the recurring theme in the literary work is the punishment of sins, and the severity that the people in hell suffer as a consequence. Pierro delle Vigne explains the actions of that which: led him to hell, suicide, and how it condemned him to eternity in hell as a tree trunk. He confesses, My

Bailey is a computer program. Given that Bailey is maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we justified in concluding that Bailey has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind. Objection 1: Because Bailey is a computer program, she has no mind. According to Rene Descartes, a being s mind is vastly different from its matter. In Bailey s case, she has no physical body but is apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human like emotions using her artificial mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in the sense that artificially intelligent software programs are capable of having emotions and complex relationships with human beings. Such a machine as Samantha in Her could have very well passed the Turing Test, which measures a machine s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that of a human. Regardless,

The Classical period of Opera is the most popular of operas we see today. This period of classic opera started around 1750 and ended around the mid 1800 s. King Louis XIV was one of the most powerful absolute monarchs in the history of Europe. He was thought of as the quintessence of what an absolute monarch should be. Throughout this paper, I will discuss the many important aspects of King Louis s reign and some of the influential things he did and their effects on society at the time. One way he achieved his absolute power was through the divine right of kings. The Divine right of kings is defined as the doctrine that the right of rule derives directly from God, not from the consent of the people. King Louis XIV used the fact that people couldn t deny any of his privileges because if they did it would be like they were denying God himself to his advantage. Jean Domat, a French jurist, wrote in his publication on Social Order and Absolute Monarchy , Since government is necessary for the public good, and God Himself has established it, it is consequently also necessary for those who are subject to government, to be submissive and obedient. For otherwise they would resist God Himself, and government, which should be the bond of peace and unity that brings about the public good, would become an occasion for divisions and disturbances that would cause its downfall. Jean Domat wrote mostly of royal absolutism; King Louis XIV regarded his work very highly. This evidence proves that during this time, many believed that if

I think all the options are western and very American; it lacks comfort. It seems fancy and delicious for a few days, but I know eventually my mother would start to miss Fijian Indian food. Also, like I mentioned before, my mother does not eat pork or beef and she is vegetarian only on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Both these things are an important part of our religion and culture; however I am unsure if the staff would be able to accommodate my mother s particular eating habits. I think this would be a great challenge for my mother. 2. Another challenge for me would be not having my mother in a homier place. I desire my mother to have comfort and be around an environment she is comfortable with. I think Atria is really pretty but it is obviously more oriented towards pleasing clients rather than residents. I want my mother to be in place that is resident centered rather than concerned with the outward
  • 28. Literary Analysis of The Dancing Bear and Planting a... Analysis of William Frederick Witherington s short story The Dancing Bear 1. The initial impression gathered from the passage is bizarre and very dreamlike, perhaps chiefly because it is an excerpt from a novel or a larger literary work. Upon further analysis, the passage develops an eerily violent tone. The events appear to take place in the home of Dieter Bethge, during a stormy night while he is sleeping. Immediately the rain is described as falling with sodden fury , introducing the negative tone. Shortly after this description, Mrs. Hax adopts the persona of an animal stalking its prey. She methodically trimmed the glass out of the frame eerily without emotion, despite the fact that she is on her way to cause harm to Dieter, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, after the paragraphs describing Dieters dream end, the passage is written in a dreamlike manner. It seems that Bethge mistakes Mrs. Hax for the dancing bear, which is strange because her actions in the first paragraph are nothing like the graceful actions of the bear, and she does not want to fold him onto the fragrant, brilliant fur in a warm embrace but rather harm him. Analysis of Dana Gioia s Poem Planting a Sequoia 1. (b) The tone of the Planting a Sequoia prose passage is reflectively melancholy. It is not one of pure agonizing sadness, yet there are underling depressing qualities to the author s words. The purpose of the passage is to describe the death an individual, presumably the first born son of the narrator. The narrator is speaking to the Sequoia that he is planting. Each of the stanzas switch from a mood of death and a mood of life. The rain blacken[ing] the horizon , the dull gray skies and the old year coming to an end all work together to create the melancholy mood. The following stanza switches to a newer and livelier mood, including the celebration of the first son s birth, earth having more life to bear , the description of a green sapling rising among the twisted apple boughs and the promise of new fruit in other autumns . The promise of ne fruit describes the symbolic purpose of the tree. Although a life is lost, there is hope for future fruit , or life in the future. The third stanza begins with the

Why People Choose The College That They Attend Is Two Greater Than Four There are many reasons why people choose the college that they attend, but is a two year college better than a four year college? This is the question Liz Addison answers in her chapter Two Years Better Than Four (Pg. 255 58). Addison was enrolled in Virginia Community College, Southern Maine Community College, and Royal Veterinary College. She has two degrees; her first degree in biology and the second degree is from Royal Veterinary College and is now a veterinarian in Virginia. When discussing this topic, there are substantial amounts of variables to consider before picking a position on if two years is better than four because of how diverse we are from one another. In the chapter, Addison addresses, on how everyone is eligible for a two year college, however, that is not the case with a four year college. This is crucial because it gives everyone the opportunity to have that college experience if they were denied or don t meet the requirements of a four year college. For some students, from many backgrounds, would never breathe the college experience if it were not for community college. Addison explains. Since the recession, students and parents had to cut back on spending. This includes their spendings towards a degree. If it weren t for two year colleges, many Americans would not be getting an education, nor would they earn a degree. Because a two year college is much more affordable compared to four year colleges, less fortunate

The different type of commercial buildings were wikalas, khans, qaisariyas, suqs, and funduqs. Ismail explains that these type of buildings existed since the Mameluke Empire period, but they were kept being built during the Ottoman Empire, with some minor changes. The wikalas were buildings located within the city walls and had a design that had shops on the ground floor that faced onto courtyards and a rab system (living quarters) on the upper floors. Some of the shops from the ground level had special designs in their facades that allowed the merchants to display the imported goods that they had for sale. The building had only one entrance per each facade, and each of them led to the open central courtyard that aside from shops, had storerooms for the merchant s goods. To get access to the upper floors, people had to use staircases that were usually placed in a corner of the facades (Ismail 2005). The khans and funduqs were buildings that had combined functions of hostel and trading centre and were used mostly by traveling merchants and visitors to the city. These buildings were built mostly near the trading routes outside the city, and they required towers for extra protection, however, some of them were located inside the city and did not required to be fortified because of it. A major difference is that these buildings did not had shops in

Trolling is generally regarded as an intentionally offensive remark or action against a person or group of people who hold a certain ideology in order to get a reaction (421). However, D Addario takes note in the article of an apparent oversaturation of the word troll. Individuals will call many different things a form of trolling, to the point that it seems as though just holding an opinion is enough to be considered as a personal attack against other people. D Addario even mocks this by occasionally placing quotation marks around the word troll, to call into question a particular instance of its usage. Through sourcing, comparisons,... He uses this metaphor to address what might be the underlying problem in regards to trolling: People don t want to actually think critically of their own opinions or the opinions of others. We all simply assume that we re right in our taste of music, for example, because it s what we ve always enjoyed, and we can t imagine a world where we are wrong in our tastes. But, despite the complexity of the internet and the amount of data, opinions, and news articles floating around, we haven t mentally evolved to be able to process all of that. Not just in the respect that there is so much on the internet to begin with, but also in the respect that we ll read an opinion article and not seriously attempt to reconcile what we read in the article both to what know and what we believe. Lewis and the Influence of Dante in Out of the Silent Planet All throughout Lewis novels there is evidence that clearly connects the themes and symbolism from other aspects of traditional Christian literature both during and before he began writing. One of the most distinct examples of this occurring within Lewis works is the influence that Dante had on the concepts that he reflects on while conveying thoughts to his readers. This is specifically more notable a connection between Dante and Lewis when you examine the parallels that take place within Lewis Out of the Silent Planet and Dante s Inferno. The literary tradition left behind by Dante is both one able to influence the thoughts of others and to teach the value of Christianity through within a fictional environment. This is similar to Lewis Space Trilogy in more ways than one, some of which include Ransom journey in place of the pilgrim as he travels through strange, new, territory in order to reach his goal, and the use of Malacandra to represent the levels of Hell. Each book in the Space Trilogy continues to expand on the possible influence that Dante may have had on Lewis while he wrote these books and aims to show Christians the truth behind the Dante s thoughts through the use of science fiction. Many elements found within Dante s Inferno are reintroduced through new ideas by Lewis within Out of the Silent Planet in order to convey Christian thoughts and
