Slides from November's Agile Welly meetup: http://www.meetup.com/AgileWelly/events/216188702/
Over the last two years Powershop has grown from 10 developers and two testers to a technical team of 40. We used to work as 10 separate development silos delivering work to a separate test team. Now we have small, integrated and engaged multi-disciplinary teams of development, test, design and product ownership.
We’ll talk about the changes we’ve made to get here, what we did well and what went wrong. And most importantly what we’ve learned about growth through learning and teaching.

The Google Analytics Approach to Measuring Learning: Allowing HR to move at t...Xyleme
A strategic partner to the business is able to prove the effectiveness and efficiency of their organization. Today, we measure time-in-training, completion rates and test scores. Unfortunately, these don’t tell you if the training you are providing is actually working. The business wants more. They want low-level, actionable metrics. This can be accomplished when we take a Google analytics approach to measuring learning.
What if we had a set of learning analytics that could be plugged into the corporate scorecard? And, what if we could take immediate action on these analytics to make course corrections at the speed of business?
In her session at the ASTD 2014 Conference, Xyleme VP of Marketing Dawn Poulos, addressed these questions through a series of real-world use cases that showed learning data aligned to functional performance indicators. Attendees left the session with the analytical tools they need to prove the ROI of their training initiatives.

Leveraging your Learning Management System (LMS) for long term successPhil Garing
The debate on whether you need a Learning Management System is largely over. The question is now how to best leverage it across the organisation, through a continuous cycle of change. The issues are complex, but there is in fact a typical maturity model most organisations move through.
Understanding and planning for that evolution is central to making good decisions when tomorrow will be no doubt be different to what we expect it to be. So too is understanding that the LMS is not an end in itself, it’s simply a tool to achieve your objectives.
Phil Garing, Director at Synapsys, gave this presentation to the 2014 4th Annual Blended Learning Conference in Wellington, New Zealand. It covers:
• An overview the LMS maturity model that Synapsys sees repeatedly played out
• What you can learn from the model in terms of really leveraging your system
• How to apply the model to everyday LMS challenges and opportunities.
Ever since tech-enabled learning offered a viable alternative to the classroom, we've been extolling the virtues of any-time any-place learning. But has learning innovation kept pace with the new models of any-time any-place working available to today’s worker?
Drawing on research conducted with over 3,000 L&D leaders and 13,000 learners around the globe, this slideshow will explore what the mobile enterprise is looking for from a modernised L&D programme, and how the top learning companies are actually delivering it.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert

We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
