Piazza was founded in 2009 by Pooja Sankar with the goal of ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn from their classmates. It launched at Stanford to provide homework help and re-branded as Piazza in 2011. By 2015, Piazza had reached 1 million students at over 1500 universities in 90 countries. Piazza charges companies a subscription fee, typically over $2000 per semester, and has over 350 company subscribers. It uses students' question and answer activity to help companies identify and recruit top talent. Piazza predicts continued success by providing a useful product for both students and teachers, as well as an increasingly powerful recruiting tool.
