2.0 Company Description
Uptown Swirl is a unique company that aims to provide organic products to the
consumers who are health conservative in nature and wants to provide frozen yogurt,
milkshakes, and bite-size desserts. This is a competitive market as there are already exiting firms
in the market with similar products to offer. Uptown Swirl would be known to provide various
variety of non-alcoholic food products such as frozen yogurt, milkshake, and quick-bite dessert
UpTown Swirl Business Plan 5
(Berberich et al. 2016). This would be meant to attract most customers as the milkshake and
yogurt would be made from fresh ingredients (Wilson et al. 2016).
The significance of the name itself conveys a message concerning the products we deal
with and to be of the best quality (Burns et al. 2016). The name also tries to give customers a
particular class by them being associated with the frozen yogurt, milkshake, and quick-bite
dessert. This would give this product a competitive advantage from the other companies that also
deal with frozen yogurt, milkshake, and quick-bite dessert (Wilson et al. 2016).
The company's primary aim is giving consumers non-alcoholic products so as the
customers’ needs can be fulfilled (Berberich et al. 2016). This ensures that there is saf ...

iCHEF is a convenient service presented to our customer through a mobile APP. We offer an array of Appetizers, Entrees and Desserts. The industry we are embarking on is the Food Service and Catering industry.Examining the food service/ catering industry, we’ve learned that this industry is on the rise. It is an industry that is expected to expand over the next five years. This industry will continue to grow and define its niche by being innovative, offering international cuisines and beverages, and using sustainable locally sourced produce. The industry has received a boost from an improving economy, as consumer spending is expected to rise at an annualized rate of 2.6% during the five years to 2020. Households, which account for over 50.0% of industry demand, are expected to bolster their demand for catering services as consumer conditions improve. Unemployment is forecast to decline over the next five years, while disposable income is expected to moderately grow. As consumer conditions improve, time-poor consumers are also expected to prefer to use catering services, rather than attempt to do it themselves.
Over the next five years, consumers will continue to demand higher-quality food, better food presentation and a wider menu selection with healthier alternatives. Many customers will also begin to seek out caterers that use organic and locally sourced foods. Menus will need to more thoroughly describe items, by methods such as listing ingredients, where they came from and how they were prepared. These new demands may force some operators to increase their purchase expenses, or choose to vertically integrate by owning and operating their own farms. Consumers will also demand more value-added services, such as decorations, floral arrangements and entertainment. Overall, the number of industry enterprises is anticipated to increase 1.2% per year on average to 11,320 households and businesses.
Industry profitability is expected to strengthen and stable over the next five years in line with rising demands of the consumers. However, profit growth will be limited by strong internal and external competition and forecast rising purchasing costs. As competition rises, it will become even more important for operators to define their niche and find a way to differentiate themselves from competitors, whether through services offered or quality of service. Food costs are forecast to increase due to strong emerging market demand and volatile weather conditions. The trend towards serving more innovative, exotic food and using locally sourced and sustainable produce will also increase purchasing costs for caterers. Wage costs are also expected to increase by 2.0% per year on average over the next five years to reach $3.0 billion, as higher-paid chefs and consultants are brought on to provide more complex fare.
Looking ahead the food service/caterers industry is in the mat ...

I. Executive Summary
With the rise of the ketogenic diet and low carb diets, many people have begun to cut wheat and carbohydrates out of their diets in hopes to become healthier and lose weight. However, most products in the snack industry contain wheat leaving them exposed to shifts in demand. With the rise of Non-GMO, gluten-free, organic, and nutrient enhanced foods, snack producers are forced to focus making products healthier in response to consumer demand.
With a rise in economy, many households are left with more disposable income. This allows consumers the desire to trade up to more expensive products; organic, non-GMO, superfoods. This helps support industry performance. With an expected rise in per capita disposable income in 2020, a potential opportunity is opened for the industry.
Having an estimated 24.7% of the industry revenue in 2019 from Mondelez International, Kellogg, Campbell, and Barilla, small to medium sized companies still account for a significant portion of the industry accounting for 54.7% of the market.
One snack dominating the industry right now is edible nuts. They contain high-quality fiber, minerals, vegetable protein, oils, and vitamins, all vital for healthy functioning of the human body. According to the March 2020 USDA report, Vietnam is ranked number one in exporting tree nuts.
Organicsan, a US- based company founded by a management team with over 20 years of international operation and trading experience, was created in response to the emerging “health-nut” population. With an aim towards healthier lifestyles with gluten-free and organic snacks and nuts, they have managed to take over Vietnam’s position as the leading nut exporter.
Since early 2020, the founders of Organicsan have collaborated with a local organic farmer and its processing plant in Vietnam for cashews and macadamia nuts. In 2021, we plan to set up our first business office in Texas in hopes to partner with companies such as Amazon and Shopify to promote our organic products. We hope to one day sign contracts to wholesalers main distribution channels with large retailers. Organicsan plans to expand through localizing manufacturing operations to minimize costs while focusing on higher productivity by 2023.
Our objective is to obtain a $250,000 loan to enable us to begin operations with projected first-year revenue of US$2 million dollars, and then subsequently obtain a first-round investment amount in the amount of US$1 million in 2023 to fund capital expenditure and workin ...
Processing of Milk and Milk Products. Production of Paneer, Butter and Ghee. Investment Opportunities in Dairy Sector
Milk is a valuable nutritious food that has a short shelf-life and requires careful handling. Milk is highly perishable because it is an excellent medium for the growth of microorganisms – particularly bacterial pathogens – that can cause spoilage and diseases in consumers. Milk processing allows the preservation of milk for days, weeks or months and helps to reduce food-borne illness.
The usable life of milk can be extended for several days through techniques such as cooling (which is the factor most likely to influence the quality of raw milk) or fermentation. Pasteurization is a heat treatment process that extends the usable life of milk and reduces the numbers of possible pathogenic microorganisms to levels at which they do not represent a significant health hazard.

Sugarcane Processing Technologies by Akram HossainAkram Hossain
Sugarcane (akh) a tall tropical perennial plant of the genus Saccharum, a member of the grass family Gramineae. Although there are three species of the genus that are cultivated for commercial production of sugar, S. officinarum is the most widely used species, and has probably been cultivated in Asia from prehistoric times. It has been grown extensively in the Indies and the Americas since the 18th century and is now cultivated in most warm humid areas. S. robustum, one of the wild species, grows in profusion in the New Guinea region. In appearance it resembles closely certain cultivated sugarcanes, but lacks their juiciness.
At present, sugarcane is cultivated in about 100 countries. The principal sugarcane growing countries are India, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Barbados, China, Cuba, Mexico, Egypt, Jamaica, Peru, South Africa, and Hawaii, Florida, and Louisiana of the United States of America. In Bangladesh sugarcane is grown in about 0.38 million acres of land. The annual production of cane is about 5.5 million m tons. It is one of the most important cash crops of the country.

This is an assignment prepared on Can Defects.
Canned foods are the safest food processed today. Approximately 40% of food consumed
worldwide is thermally processed and packaged in hermetically sealed containers. However,
regardless of the safety assured in canned foods, any damage or defective canned products
are a potential public health problem. Defective cans may leak and allow microorganisms to
enter that may cause food poisoning or other significant health problems. The deadly food
poisoning, botulism, is always a significant threat and a potential public health problem to
consider when dealing with serious defective/damaged canned food containers requiring
inspection, evaluation and sampling. It is imperative that canned food products with visual
and/or external defects be recognized. Those containers with “significant defects” should not
be sold, distributed or consumed. However, canned foods with “insignificant defects”
(Aesthetic Defects) normal represent no public health hazard, i.e., if the hermetic seal on the
can has not been jeopardized, these products are generally considered safe and when
properly labeled, such products are acceptable for distribution and sale.

f you offer a service on the web, odds are that someone will abuse it. Be it an API, a SaaS, a PaaS, or even a static website, someone somewhere will try to figure out a way to use it to their own needs. In this talk we'll compare measures that are effective against static attackers and how to battle a dynamic attacker who adapts to your counter-measures.

Food business and poverty

FOOD BUSINESS & POVERTY
An article for World Food Day article writing competition by ESA, HSTU.
2. Food Business and Poverty
Dictionary defines poverty as “the state or condition of having no money, goods, or means
of support; deficiency of necessary or desirable ingredients” that means condition of being poor.
Poverty in its various forms has increasingly occupied the attention of the international community
during the last decade. Different countries and communities have taken measures to drastically
reduce the misery from which so many humans suffer throughout their lives. But the progress is still
relatively slow, even though measures to improve the livelihoods of the poor are affordable and not
that difficult. As you know of, Hunger and food insecurity - the most serious forms of extreme
poverty - have now become an international issue. In the year of 1996, during the World food
summit, world leaders have made a solemn commitment to halve hunger in the world by the year of
2015. But here we are, still there are 1.2 billion poor people in developing countries, of which 780
million suffer from chronic hunger, which means that their daily intake of calories is insufficient for
them to live active and healthy lives. This remains an alarming problem in the world's developing
regions, despite the advances made for so long. Widespread and persistent hunger due to poverty is
a fundamental contradiction in all over the world. Reducing rural poverty will therefore require
significantly higher rural incomes.
Agriculture is the principal driving force of the rural economy and, for those developing
countries without substantial mineral resources, often the whole economy. Since most rural incomes
are related to agriculture, raising agricultural productivity can help raise rural incomes all round.
That means the incomes of poor people and the sources from which they derive their livelihoods
should be enhanced by the development of agriculture, increasing crop production, increasing small
business.
As our country, Bangladesh is a developing country and majority of the people depends on
agriculture to make their living, we can encourage the people of rural area or any poor people in
business. A business they can easily conduct, a business they can easily operate from rural area using
resources are already available. A comparison between modern and pre-industrial civilization is
enough to suggest that business has been instrumental in reducing poverty in the past. Through
growing economies, creating jobs and producing the tax receipts necessary for redistributive
government policy, the exchange of one person’s labor for another’s is the most sustainable way
3. that poverty can be reduced. As it has been said already that our country still depends on
agriculture, business related agriculture and the product of agriculture (food) will come in handy for
rural people. In later of this article you will be taken through the process of establishing a small food
business at our home and how it can reduce poverty.
Starting any business is no easy task, and becoming a food entrepreneur is a special
challenge. We will have to prepare for the hard work and dedication it takes to succeed in the food
business. As we are thinking about opening a food business, there are many regulatory requirements
that we will have to meet. Some of those requirements apply to all food business and some are
specific to the particular food product we are producing including federal and local requirements.
Before starting our new food business, we need a clear vision of how we want our business
to operate; How it will be managed, marketed, and financed; And how we expect it to perform in the
future. To achieve this goal, we need to write a business plan. We need a plan about marketing out
product, processing plant and equipment, registering our business, food labelling and food pricing
etc.
People of rural area can do such business even at home. Setting up a food business in our
home has advantages and disadvantages. We can make our own schedule and cut commuting
expenses. On the other hand, there may be added costs involved in getting our kitchen setup for
producing the product and working at home will definitely impact our family.
After getting our business registered, selecting products we will be producing, collecting
necessary equipment and ingredients we can start the production of course following regulatory
instructions, safety instructions from Food Safety Authority in Bangladesh.
Some guidelines should be followed strictly to run a food business and producing food products at
home:
1. During commercial processing, no part of the home kitchen may be used for personal food
preparation.
2. Ingredients used for your food business must be kept separate from ingredients for personal use
and must be properly stored and protected. Proper storage includes using food-grade containers
that keep pests out and maintaining temperatures that do not promote spoilage.
3. No animals are permitted in the home at any time.
4. Children are not permitted in the kitchen area during commercial processing.
4. Along with the guidelines listed above, specific categories of home-processed foods must meet
additional requirements as in following.
For shelf-stable bakery items such as breads, cookies, and biscuits can be produced in a
home kitchen. However, high-moisture/low-acid items such as sauces, creams and custards,
toppings may be potentially hazardous should be made in a completely separate kitchen.
Some beverages can be produced at a limited food establishment at home kitchen. This may
include lemonade, lemon iced tea, and other acidic drinks. The pH of all beverages must be
tested to ensure it is 4.
Home processing of jams and jellies is permitted in kitchens as long as we document and
adhere to all written procedures and formulas. Although pH testing is not required, these
products must be tested at a commercial laboratory to make sure they meet quality
standards for soluble solids content.
For producing other products, related safety measures should be followed.
With proper pricing and marketing, the products can bring revenue to the owners, and business can
grow larger and larger. The business can move from household level to industrial level within a few
years of proper maintenance. This will create necessity of industrial workers in rural level and people
can be employed. Once a business grow up, there are a few more businesses grow with it, like the
new food industry which improved itself to industrial level form household level will need more
manpower, supplies, ingredients, transportation facilities etc. will create opportunity for other new
small businesses. That is how more people can be employed, earn their livings, improve the rural
and ultimately reduce the grasp of poverty.
