Focus Group Interview
What is your gender?
Female
What is your age?
18
What is your favourite horror film?
My favourite horror film is probably The Strangers because it is extremely scary and that’s the whole
point of horror films, to be thrilled.
When watching the Texas Chainsaw Massacre trailer does it make you want to watch the film? If
so, why?
Yes it does, it really draws me in because of the entire fast pace editing. As well as this, the plot also
really draws me in as I feel I can relate to what is happening.
What is your favourite part of the trailer? Why?
My favourite part of the trailer is probably when the group of friends are at the house looking
around, before they get chased. This is because the tension and suspense is created here which
makes it exciting for the viewer.
How would you describe the camera work which has been used in the trailer?
I would say the camera work is very effective. For example, there are many close ups used in order
for the characters facial expressions to be shown. The establishing shots used are also very effective
as they show the conventional derelict setting in which the film takes place.
How would you describe the editing, which has been used in the trailer?
The editing in some parts is fast-pace which adds to the tension of the chainsaw massacre. Also, the
on-screen text which is added informs the viewer with background knowledge etc, which helps them
to understand the trailer which is good and is also conventional of the form.
What do you like to see present in horror films?
I like to see dark and dull scenes along with fast-pace editing which adds tension. I also like to see a
scary character/slasher.
What is your favourite sub-genre of horror films?
Slasher is my favourite.
What are your views on seeing a visible antagonist compared to an unseen character, such as a
ghost?
I would prefer to see a visible antagonist, although ghosts can create an eerie sense and add
suspense to the movie. Ghosts give it a real-life edge.
