Main area of activity:
The two main mediums I will be working in will be video/film (title sequence and pre-title
sequence,) alongside graphic design and photography (for the poster – as it will be photography
base but with additions added to it – such as Easter eggs and other links to the series. I will also
be applying editing skills to the piece like sharpening edges, playing about with shadows, colour
grades and lighting...)
Rationale:
Through this year (both in and out of college) I’ve seen the progression of my skills and confidence
– in things such as filming, prior to this year I hadn’t actually filmed anything and though I started of
quite week in things such as my Irn-Bru project, I saw some progression in my music video –
which will play into my title sequence and pre-title sequence; my photoshop skills – with the
addition in things like - “Refine Edges” and the - “Lasso Tool,” to efficiently cut around things; and
I’ve finally learnt how to use the basics in Premier. I want to work in these three mediums as I take
interest in them – I very much like making posters in photoshop, as demonstrated in my own time;
I want to create the pre-title sequence in the hope of developing my skills further as that’s
something I’d like to do when I’m older – directing – especially a crime drama; and I’d like to do a
title sequence as I love seeing title sequence with the blended and well-crafted imagery and I’d
really have a go at go this – not to mention being able to compare this year’s to last year's
standard of work – by recreating and comparing last year's work – e.g. a poster and title sequence
for a crime series.
Project Concept:
The concept for my product is a British crime drama, appealing to a predominately male audience,
with mature content – hopefully cover the mental state of criminals such as serial killers; as well as
things like depression and anxiety. I'll be working in three mediums – a short sequence, a title
sequence and a poster for the overall product – which would be a series broadcast weekly on TV.
By including a sequence before the title sequence – showcasing a murder, it will fit into the crime
and drama section – as murder is a crime and the way I'll be shooting all this is for the effect of
drama, with the title sequence causing suspense as it cuts its way into the end of scene, leaving
the audience to think. In both my title sequence and poster, I'll be using the expression's and
poses of the main character/characters to help convey the emotions of the episodes (-e.g. the
drama,) whilst also using gritty and realistic colours to convey the lower and more serios tones that
would be seen throughout the series. If broadcast, this would be aired on late night BBC 1 – fitting
into the BBC drama department style – like such hits as - “Luther” and “Bodyguard.” It would also
be aired of a several weeks period, on a series on Saturday nights – at 54 minutes, per episode
(so my audience won’t be done after a full week of work and I’ll have their attention, whilst having
them aired weekly will allow for a week's whole suspense and waiting for the last episode to be
resolved...)

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
To evaluate and reviewed where my work is at, I’ll be doing regular production reflections and
weekly logs – to encourage myself to think about where my work is at and maybe how I could
better it. Also, at the end of this project I'll be doing a project evaluation; I could also get peer
feedback from doing test screenings – as either a test or post being done – that way I would be
able to improve on future projects; as well as feedback on early drafts of the script or the animatic
of things like the title sequence or pre-title sequence.
