Scott Woodhams' production log documents his progress on a final major project for a games design course. He researched game ideas, pitched a fantasy-themed project, and spent several weeks modeling environments and objects in 3D modeling software. Issues arose with importing models between programs, which he resolved by recreating models. Throughout the process, Scott focused on iteratively improving his models through additional details and textures. By the end, he completed the 3D environment and terrain, gathered feedback, and finished documenting and uploading the project for evaluation.

17.02.13 I have almost finished my task 2 research. I need to go over the work I have done and refine what I have written. I gave out surveys to college
students to add to my research task. I am now moving on to the idea generation task, I’ve started a mind map and gathering images to back up my
ideas, but I need to add more information to the ideas.
I have also started making models at home in 3ds Max and started experimenting within UNITY will assets from the unity store.
24.02.13 I have finished my Task 2 research and have uploaded it to my blog.
3.03.13 I have now finished both of the first tasks and am now working on my pitch to my project manager.
10.03.13 Pitch has now finished, ahead of schedule. I have modelled a fantasy fountain and a house. I worked on the fountain in unity to make parts of it
rotate, and worked on making a good water texture for it in modeller.
15.3.13 After my pitch I have been working on models and game objects in UNITY. I have made multiple models including, house, buildings, bridge, and
fountains, in light wave and 3dsmax.
20.3.13 I have been working out a workflow, just to make my working easier, this involves adding Maya to the software I use, simply because importing into
Maya creates less problems when it comes to importing objects from Lightwave.
I have created a working windmill and generated a script for the sails to rotate, and I have made a stadium. Both have been textured, I have also
started Bump mapping my models since UNITY supports bump mapping, I have also been making my own bump maps in Photoshop. This will add
more realism to the game.
2. 10.04.13 Over the past two week I have started create décor for the environment for example a bench. Apart from that I have just been making random
building and other things to just build up everything.
17.04.13 This past week I have created a few things, Potion Shop, Book Store, Church and a blacksmiths. The church and blacksmiths I am going to go back
and add more detail, as I feel it needs it, also with the book store, I finished the bookstore under an hour and even though it looks good, I think it
would be best if I were to go back and look over what I’ve done. I’m also going to start developing textures at home.

3. 24.04.13 This week I have only made a couple of models, the biggest one being a cliff tower connected to a house. I have not done much work at home, I
have set up a focus group that will look at and judge what I have made.
01.05.13 I’ve started creating materials for my models, either getting images from the web then adapting them in Photoshop to what I need, or creating
them from scratch. For something however I’ve used the material editor in unity to create realistic water and other things. For example this is an
orb of water I made using UNITY’s editor;
08.05.13 This week I have started making the terrain in unity. I came across a few issues involving the dimensions of the terrain and the textures of it. After
changing the textures for a while I found a good texture that works. Another issue I came across was to do with water; I did the best I could without
unity pro to create water, adding a loop animation to it to create more realism.
15.05.13 I am finishing the terrain today; I came across a few issues, with collision and other things. I have also made changes to the size of the terrain.
Reducing the width and length by more half, I did this because, as I previously had it the terrain was too big for the play to move around in. after I
have finished the layout of the terrain, I will upload it to the Q drive as a 1st
version.
Another issue I have had to deal with is that some if not most models are having problem importing into 3ds max, so I am unable to texture them.
Cliff Building
4. To resolve this issue, I’m going to have to recreate them in 3ds max and then add textures from there. I should be able to do it in one night, and if
everything goes to plan I should have the project finished by the end of the week.
22.05.13 I have finished my project and put the files on the Q drive, as well as uploading my evaluation to my blog. I need together reviews and to record
gameplay of my world, then upload them both to my blog. After that I have finished the entire project.
