Tell me in no more than20 words, what is your
FMP idea?
Documentary basedonthe psychologicaland
biological effects of videogames
Why have youdecided to makeit? The project will be easy to research as the video
game industry is nowlarger thanthe music
industry, inadditionto this there are many people
with strongviews on video games, sogathering
opinionsonthem in interviews would be simple
enoughto do. I’malso notthe mostgifted at
storytellinghowever I am muchmore passionate
aboutcreating factual basedwork as it is easier to
create a script basedon facts that havealready
been confirmed.
What aboutyourproject makesit importantto
you?
I spentmy whole life growing up around
videogamesfrom the Gameboy to the XboxOne,
andin that time, I havealso noticed a high
amountof research into the psychology of
videogames, I’mfascinated abouthow
videogamesmay have changedme as a person,
andI want to knowif they’veimpacted upon
others.
Outline someof the initial influences onyour
idea/work and somepotential research targets
(remember, research isn’t justa paper-based
activity)
My initial influence comesfrom news articles and
stories thatI have read andheard over the years,
news outlets andmedia sourcesthat have
discussedthe possibleimpact of videogames.
However, the scientific articles discussingthe
benefits of playingvideogames, all influenced my
decision to cover thistopic.
This would alsomean that a large portionof my
research will be paper based. However, secondary
research could also come from interviewing
professionalson the subject, interviewing random
people what they think aboutthe subject would
lead to biased answers asthey would be
opinionated, thisdoesn’tmeanthat their opinion
would be invalidatedas it would give a first-
personperspective on the psycheof a gamer.
What effect do youwant to haveon your
audience when they see yourproject?
I want anyonewho watches thisvideo to take
away the facts that I havepresented themwith
andlet them come to a different conclusionthan
they had before, or at least a fresh perspective, to
let themrealise how muchof an impact
videogamescan haveon people’slives.
Describe the tone/mood/styleofyourproject
[which productiontechniques/characteristicsare
youemploying?]
I will want my project to feel lively but not
ecstatic, somethingthatwould certainly match
the feel of fast paced videogames, in order to
keep the energy levels of the videogoing.
This would likely mean usinga series of simple
jump cutsin keeping with the simpler
documentary aesthetic. It wouldalso mean using
a soundtrack thathasenergy to it but isn’t
incredibly fast paced andloud.
A large portionof the footagewould also mean
showingfootage of video games of a different
variety, footage of E sportstournamentsand
conventionstoshowthe scopeand scale of the
industry today.
Why have youdecided to makeyour project in
this style?
I want the videoto be mellow so thatit doesn’t
subconsciously changewhatthe person thinks, I
want them tofeel at ease in the video so thatthey
have a better chance at takingin all the facts.
