The EPA's GreenChill program partners with the supermarket industry to promote the adoption of advanced refrigeration technologies that reduce emissions of ozone-depleting and greenhouse gas refrigerants. In its first year, GreenChill launched with 10 partners and now has over 50 partners representing over 5,800 stores. GreenChill provides guidelines, certifications, and shares information to help partners transition away from HCFC refrigerants and reduce emissions through best practices like retrofitting stores with lower-charge systems. GreenChill also works with manufacturers to increase the use of advanced systems and improve industry practices around installation, service, and refrigerant management.
