ELEMENTS OF DESIGN

equal.

with the lightest at the extremities or sides.
• Proportion – the height of the floral
arrangement is generally one and half times
the height of the container
GENERAL POINTS TO REMEMBER
WHEN ARRANGING FLOWERS
• Ensure that the vase is suitable for the
number of flowers
• Do not put too many flowers in the vase.
• Immerse fresh flowers in water before
arranging for at least four hours.
• Cut the stem of fresh flowers under water as
you arrange to prevent bubbles from going up
in the stems.
GENERAL POINTS TO REMEMBER
WHEN ARRANGING FLOWERS
• refrigerators and air condition room can
cause flowers to dry out.
• Place cut flowers and foliage in waters
immediately after reaping. Clean water helps
to keep the stem fresh.
IMPORTANT TERMS
• Focal point- area from which point from which
the design originates. The focal point can be
created with color, size of flower, or grouping
of flowers.
• Oasis – heavy leaded flower holder that can
be stuck securely from any angle.
• Bracts- Flowers that arise from a modified
leaf. Example bougainvillea, red ginger,
anthurium and poinsettia
