Flipkart held its Big Billion Day sale on October 6th, 2014 with the objectives of getting 1 billion hits and earning $100 million. Through heavy advertising, Flipkart raised expectations of special deals like a Rs. 1 pen drive. However, on sale day there were out of stock items, cancelled orders, website crashes, and revoked prices. Despite getting 1.5 million hits, Flipkart lost credibility due to frustrated customers. The next day, Flipkart founders Sachin and Binny apologized but it was too late. The sale failed due to Flipkart being unprepared, inadequate planning, neglecting customer satisfaction, and acting in bad faith.
