I encourage you to bring your phone to
class. I do have computer labs booked and
will periodically have the iPad cart if you do
not have a cell phone.
Schoology
You will be signing on to Schoology on
Thursday.
I intend on giving your parents a code so
that they have access to your account.
If you do not have internet access at
home, please make time to see me.
Phones, Tablets, iPods, etc.
We will be using technology to enhance
learning NOT as a distraction.
It will be made very clear when it is
appropriate to use these devices.
If you are not using your device for
learning it will be taken away.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a phone,
tech. will be made available to you when
possible.

You may keep a pencil and your written
work in your folder as well (if you prefer)
Chairs and Stands
Music stands may be used as desks for
written work
Return whatever you use to where it was
found
Theory/Journaling
 Journaling will be taught very specifically
 Don’t understand? Ask, I will help you!
 Again, bring your own writing materials. I
usually have paper for you.
 Hand in your work with your name on it. No
name = no marks.
Transferable Skills
 Sight-reading is a tool that teaches professional
musicians to be able to read music by sight.
 Auditions
 Rehearsals
 Studio musicians
 Critical thinking skills.
Music Selections
We will be playing as ensemble
Variety of music
Solos
Duets/small ensembles
Guitars
You are responsible for care and
maintenance of the instrument.
Provide your own picks.
Have replacement strings with you, if you
do not know how to change your strings,
Mrs. Barkhouse will help you.
The school will not provide a guitar for
you.
Course Breakdown
70% course work
30% final summative evaluations
Course work will include journals
(Thinking, Communication), theory
(Knowledge), performing (Application)
The FSE will include performance and
written components
Course work will also include Arts Night.
The final exam will be a short performance
and worth about 10% of your mark. The
other 20% of your FSE will be completed
ahead of the exam date.

Bring water (again, disruptive to learning)
Cell phones – ask and you will never have
a problem
MP3 players- again, ask and you will
never have a problem
Be respectful of one another

  • 4. Schoology Marks Discussions Journals Performance Quizzes I encourage you to bring your phone to class. I do have computer labs booked and will periodically have the iPad cart if you do not have a cell phone.
  • 5. Schoology You will be signing on to Schoology on Thursday. I intend on giving your parents a code so that they have access to your account. If you do not have internet access at home, please make time to see me.
  • 6. Phones, Tablets, iPods, etc. We will be using technology to enhance learning NOT as a distraction. It will be made very clear when it is appropriate to use these devices. If you are not using your device for learning it will be taken away. Don’t worry if you don’t have a phone, tech. will be made available to you when possible.

  • 8. Music All music is a loan Please keep your music in your folder. You may keep a pencil and your written work in your folder as well (if you prefer)
  • 9. Chairs and Stands Music stands may be used as desks for written work Return whatever you use to where it was found
  • 10. Theory/Journaling  Journaling will be taught very specifically  Don’t understand? Ask, I will help you!  Again, bring your own writing materials. I usually have paper for you.  Hand in your work with your name on it. No name = no marks.
  • 11. Transferable Skills  Sight-reading is a tool that teaches professional musicians to be able to read music by sight.  Auditions  Rehearsals  Studio musicians  Critical thinking skills.
  • 12. Music Selections We will be playing as ensemble Variety of music Solos Duets/small ensembles
  • 13. Guitars You are responsible for care and maintenance of the instrument. Provide your own picks. Have replacement strings with you, if you do not know how to change your strings, Mrs. Barkhouse will help you. The school will not provide a guitar for you.
  • 14. Course Breakdown 70% course work 30% final summative evaluations Course work will include journals (Thinking, Communication), theory (Knowledge), performing (Application) The FSE will include performance and written components
  • 15. Course work will also include Arts Night. The final exam will be a short performance and worth about 10% of your mark. The other 20% of your FSE will be completed ahead of the exam date.
  • 16. Please Go to the washroom before class (disruptive to learning) Bring water (again, disruptive to learning) Cell phones – ask and you will never have a problem MP3 players- again, ask and you will never have a problem Be respectful of one another
