This document outlines the expectations and procedures for Mr. Garren's 7th grade social studies class. Students are expected to come prepared with materials and a positive attitude. Class rules require students to respect the teacher, each other, and the classroom. Consequences are outlined for not following rules, ranging from warnings to detentions to referrals. The document also describes how students can succeed in the class by participating, taking notes, and doing their homework. Various topics will be covered throughout the course.

3. MATERIALS YOU MUST COME PREPARED FOR CLASS: 3 PENS OR 3 SHARPENED PENCILS PACKET PAPER SOCIAL STUDIES JOURNAL/NOTEBOOK PROPER ATTITUDE!

6. HOW CAN WE MAKE CLASS DIFFICULT AND RACK UP REFERRALS? Choose to waste time Choose to cause a scene Choose to talk to your neighbor Choose to disrupt class time Refuse to follow the rules

7. HOW CAN WE MAKE CLASS EASY AND RACK UP GOOD GRADES? Pay attention Listen effectively Keep your eyes glued to Mr. Garren Think about the subject Keep good notes Be ready to answer questions Participate in all activities

8. WHAT IF YOU FOLLOW THE RULES? You will receive verbal praise Our classroom will be stress free Everything will be pleasant and orderly You will keep yourselves and Mr. Garren happy. Your class will receive rewards occasionally.

9. WHAT IF I CHOOSE NOT TO FOLLOW THE RULES? 1 st OFFENSE – VERBAL WARNING “This is your warning” 2 nd OFFENSE – TEACHER DETENTION “You’ll be hanging out with Mr. Garren until 2:50” 3 rd OFFENSE – SENT TO HALL, REFERRAL , AND PARENT CONTACTED “Just get out” **NOTE – I reserve the right to skip any step depending on the unacceptable behavior.

10. PROCEDURES Entering the classroom: Enter quietly. Sit in your assigned seat. Take out materials. Look at the screen and begin the opening assignment. A procedure is the way something is done. You have a procedure for everything. This classroom also has procedures.

11. GRADING Homework = 50% Tests = 25% Quizzes = 20% Class Participation = 5%

12. TIPS: Passing my class: You WILL NOT FAIL if you DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! Failing my class: You WILL NOT PASS if you DO NOT DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! You will NEVER stay after school or get a referral from me AS LONG AS YOU choose to do the right thing. If you are absent, MAKE UP YOUR WORK!

13. WHAT WILL WE LEARN ABOUT? We will be starting with American Geography and ending with the Civil War. By the end of the course, you will all have a wide knowledge of US History, and most importantly: WHY HISTORY IS IMPORTANT TO YOU TODAY
