Cipla had hit fresh 52 week high today at Rs 415.90 on BSE and closed 2.18% up after Cipla Medpro won a share in
South Africa's $667 mn contract.
The market breadth on the BSE closed in positive. Advancing and declining stocks were 1686 and 1278 respectively,
while 119 scrips remained unmoved.
The BSE Sensex ended at 19339.90, up 168.99 points or 0.88%. The 30 share index touched a high and a low of
19372.70 and 19186.30 respectively. 23 stocks advanced against 7 declining ones on the benchmark index.
The S&P CNX Nifty gained 54.85 points or 0.94% to settle at 5879.85. The index touched high and low of 5885.25
and 5827.85 respectively. 39 stocks advanced against 10 declining ones on the index.
Sensex Nifty
The BSE Mid-cap index moved up to 6901.99 and gained 1.10% while Small-cap index jumped up by 0.82% to
7275.65.
The broader BSE 500 index increased to 7472.45 (up 0.95%) and S&P CNX 500 index rose to 4675.25 (up 0.94%).
The volatility as denoted by INDIA VIX lost 1.43% at 15.15 from its previous close of 15.37 on Thursday.
Sectors in action
On the BSE Sectorial front, Metals (up 2.07%), Power (up 1.77%) and Banks (up 1.46%) were the top gainers.
Automobile (down 0.32%), FMCG (down 0.24%) and Real Estate (down 0.20%) were the top losers.
The Angels and the Devils
Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (up 5.39%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (up 4.92%), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd
(up 4.44%), Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd (up 3.24%) and Hindalco Industries Ltd (up 2.65%) were the top gainers on
the Sensex.
Hindustan Unilever Ltd (down 1.72%), Tata Motors Ltd (down 1.44%), Bajaj Auto Ltd (down 1.13%), Maruti Suzuki
India Ltd (down 0.93%) and Coal India Ltd (down 0.80%) were the top losers on the Sensex.
