1. Markets end marginally up; RBI keeps key rates unchanged

Following a cautious start, Indian markets crawled near the previous close in early deals. Markets spurted after RBI
announced monetary policy maintaining its hawkish tone in determining the inflation trajectory going forward. However,
benchmarks gave up the gains on profit booking and ended marginally up.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 26630.51, up 33.40 points or 0.13%. The 30 share index touched a high and a low of
26851.33 and 26481.31 respectively. 14 stocks advanced against 16 declining ones on the benchmark index.
The CNX Nifty gained 5.90 points or 0.07% to settle at 7964.80. The index touched high and low of 8030.90 and
7923.85 respectively. 24 stocks advanced against 26 declining ones on the index.
T h e market breadth on the BSE closed in negative. Advancing and declining stocks were 1435 and 1597
respectively, while 118 scrips remained unmoved.
S&P BSE Sensex CNX Nifty
The S&P BSE Mid-cap index moved up to 9530.35 and gained 0.14% while S&P BSE Small-cap index jumped up by
0.13% to 10681.46.
The broader S&P BSE 500 index increased to 10173.26 (up 0.11%) and CNX 500 index rose to 6415.70 (up 0.12%).
The volatility as denoted by INDIA VIX lost 1.79% at 13.15 from its previous close of 13.39 on Monday.
Among global peers, US markets ended down amidst violent unrest in Hong Kong. Asian and European markets are
trading weak as disappointing economic data from Japan and concerns about a slowdown in China also contributed to
the weakness.
On macro-economic front, RBI maintained its status-quo by keeping the repo rate unchanged. In its Fourth Bi-
Monthly Monetary Policy Statement, RBI kept the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF)
unchanged at 8%. Consequent to which the reverse repo rate under the LAF remain unchanged at 7% and the
marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate at 9%. However, the central banker has reduced the liquidity
provided under the export credit refinance (ECR) facility from 32% to 15% of eligible export credit outstanding with
effect from October 10, 2014.
Sectors in action
On the BSE Sectorial front, Consumer Durables (up 1.75%), Healthcare (up 1.35%) and Oil & Gas (up 1.14%) were
the top gainers.
Real Estate (down 2.66%), Power (down 1.22%) and Metals (down 0.96%) were the top losers.
Among major stock-specific developments, Sterlite Technologies spurted 5% on BSE on entering into a Joint-
Venture (JV) agreement with Japan based VISCAS Corporation, specialized in providing power transmission and
distribution systems solutions globally.
IDFC plunged 2.4% on BSE on signing a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) with real estate funds managed by
Blackstone for sale of 100% stake in subsidiary companies namely Galaxy Mercantiles and Neopro Technologies.
The Angels and the Devils
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (up 2.77%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (up 2.17%), Bajaj Auto
Ltd (up 2.00%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (up 1.85%) and Cipla Ltd (up 1.59%) were the top gainers on the Sensex.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (down 2.85%), Axis Bank (down 2.18%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 1.69%), Mahindra
and Mahindra Ltd (down 1.62%) and Tata Motors Ltd (down 1.57%) were the top losers on the Sensex.

Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (38.26 points), ICICI Bank (-29.51 points), ITC Ltd (27.86 points),
Reliance Industries Ltd (25.76 points) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (22.01 points) were the major Sensex
drivers today.
2. On the other end Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (10.40 points), ICICI Bank (-8.36 points), ITC Ltd
(6.62 points), Reliance Industries Ltd (6.47 points) and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (-5.34 points) were the major
Nifty movers today.
Pivot, Supports and Resistance Levels
CNX Nifty is now pivoted at 7973 for next session. The next support is at 7915 and on upside it has a resistance at
8023 levels.
