The biggest negative experience that I have had is with a previous employer, and it was my first day as a preschool teacher in a facility nearby. On my first day, I walked into a situation that made a huge impact on the way I viewed this facility. When I started that day, I was told that I would not be in “my classroom” that I would be filling in for a teacher that was out that day. I didn’t have an issue with that fact and was actually up for the challenge. But when I entered the classroom I noticed there were no rules, no structure, no lesson plans and the classroom was complete chaos. I managed to create some spur of the moment lessons and engaged in music as much as possible. Then when it was time for lunch, and I went to serve it, it was pure sugar and very unhealthy. I left for the day feeling defeated, tired, frustrated and stressed and nowhere to turn. I expressed my concerns throughout the day along with a lot of severe health issues to the owner and was brushed off. I care a lot about the children’s safety and their learning environment, and I felt like I was drowning. Needless to say, I ended up moving on from that position because I felt helpless and without a direction to improve anything.
I have had several positive experiences throughout my educational background. The classrooms were always welcoming, warm and inviting and it showed that the teachers cared about their classrooms and their students. Those classrooms made me excited about becoming a teacher and gave me something to work towards in the future.
“The foundation for successful learning and a safe and secure classroom climate is the relationship that teachers develop with their students (Sousa, Tomlinson, 2011)”. The teacher-student relationship is something that should be built on from day one. If the students do not trust or know you, they will feel uneasy and unsafe in the classroom environment. It is so important to form the relationship with your students to ensure communication and safety of your students. Another way to provide a positive learning environment is with your attitude. If you have a positive and fun attitude, it will show through your lessons and your students will enjoy being in your class every day which will affect how they learn. Lastly, the organization is a big key to a positive and stimulating learning environment. If your classroom is packed full of stuff or the students, do not know where materials are it can cause frustrations for you and your students.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. 2. Thinking back
The original aim of this experience was to give us (as teachers-to-be) an insight into the teaching word where we have to relate and
integrate the theory seen during this year with the practices.
In my teaching practices the objectives and activities were focused on the kids. I get all the information about them in the interview
with the teacher and in my observation classes: what they knew, their routine, their special needs, etc. According to that, I planned
the classes trying to make them meaningful, with a context and using different resources for each class. I believe that my classes
were significant for the children as they had fun, participate and get engaged very easily.
To develop this teaching experience the knowledge needed was what I had seen in Didactics 1: how young learners learn, the
importance of the context so they can relate what they had seen with what they know, the different resources and scaffolding
strategies that the teacher can use and the importance of play, sing, interact with their peers and many other resources.
Furthermore, the skills needed were patience, responsibility, creative ideas, be outgoing and at the same time be flexible with the
different situations that were appearing.
I learn from this experience that theory is very important to have a first glance to what teaching is, but when giving the classes I
have to know that sometimes what I have planned beforehand can no happen exactly like that. I have to be prepared to solve any
situation and to ask for help if I needed. But I also learnt that teaching to young learners can be amazing, their innocence and their
way to see the simple things as something extraordinary keep me stunning. I really love this experience.
3. Thinking forward
If I had the chance to develop this practice again I would change my classroom management. It was a bit
difficult for me to organize some of the kids because they were very curious about was I was going to do.
Furthermore, I would change the length of some activities that I planned as the children get very entertained
with the manual activities and we lacked of time.
I had never been in front of a class before and I though it was going to be really difficult to teach to young
learners but I really like it. This teaching experience will definitely influence my future as a teacher because
I would be able to teach to any group no matter their age. This first approach, helped me to understand the
importance that the theory (socio-constructivism, meaningful learning and interactions, materials
development, classroom management) had and how I can apply all that in the classroom. Furthermore, my
future pedagogical decisions will be focus on the learners, what they like, their interests, how they work in
groups or alone, how they learn and how I can use the different materials to give meaningful classes
creating a context they are familiar with.
4. Thinking Inward
This experience was meaningful to me because it was the first time that I was in front of a class. It
helped me to understand the theory better by applying it. Furthermore, this experience helped me
to appreciate the import role and all the work that a teacher does. Unfortunately, I can see that
nowadays the time that a teacher spend planning the lessons, preparing the material, choosing
the correct activity, song, etc. is not valued at all.
I am completely satisfied with the way I developed my practices because I could plan and give
classes where the children could participate, play, sing and relate their previous knowledge with
what we were seeing. My biggest fear during the classes was that the children didn’t understand
what I was saying but they do understand and that made me feel great. I love this experience, the
children and the teacher and director of the institution. They made me feel part of the group and
welcomed all the time.
5. Thinking Outward
The main focus of the institution were the kids and for that reason they pay special attention to each of
them. They know their names, where they live, their family, their mother/father/babysitter who went
to pick them up, the school and grade that they went to and if they play a sport or activity after
classes.. The institution get involved in the daily life of each kid and i totally agree with this kind of
attitude. All this is posible to do here in Alumine because it is a small town and we all know each
other. Nevertheless, we all know the reality that we are living nowadays full of violence and hate and
for that reason i believe that this viewpoint of the institution is completly beneficial to each member of
it.
6. Conclusion
Without a doubt, this has been an unforgettable experience. I believe that this is just
the beginning of many more new knowledge and experiences to come. In addition, I
know that when reflecting after each class, there would be many things that I
would like to improve or change but I also know that this is the correct way to
achieving my goal and become the teacher I wish I had.
