This document discusses the impacts of social media usage. While 70% of teens use multiple social media platforms frequently, over 2 hours of daily usage is linked to poor mental health and psychological distress. Excessive social media consumption can negatively impact self-image due to unrealistic standards, and enables cyberbullying. However, social media also allows for communication and connection with friends across distances, with 57% of teens having met new friends online and 68% finding online friends supportive. Moderation of social media usage is important to experience positive benefits while avoiding potential negative psychological effects.
