Genre theory
Genre theory posits that genres are defined by certain conventions of content, themes, settings, and forms that are shared among texts belonging to that genre. However, genres are dynamic and open to negotiation rather than fixed forms. Individual texts can also belong to multiple genres depending on factors like location and time period. Genres provide frameworks that position readers and viewers in certain ways, but also offer pleasures through repetition and deviation from expectations.

This presentation is a talk given at the 14 November Philadelphia area AIChE meeting. Chemical engineers, especially those in the US, are increasingly being asked to develop incremental increases in plant capacity, say up to 20%. Many plants are now running at maximum capacity, yet tight capital funding and requirements for short payback periods make it difficult to have large investment for new, grassroots facilities. In some cases, engineers need to meet demand increments much less than the capacity of a new plant, while further demand growth is uncertain. The manufacturer must then choose the appropriate capacity increment, instead of overdesigning Debottlenecking projects are undertaken to deliver these capacity increases, by implementing select changes to specific parts of a plant to relieve restrictions. In this session, we will discuss tools and analyses for assessing the process bottlenecks. We will address means of debottlenecking numerous unit operations, while listing points often forgotten in such projects. Finally we will discuss how debottlenecking projects are different from conventional grass roots projects, while treating the practical aspects of how to manage such projects. A list of references is included for further, deeper study. Many of the facts and figures presented in the talk were taken from these references.

Gender role refers to the set of socially as well as behavioral accepted customs that are believed to be socially appropriate for the persons of particular gender as permitted in the individual’s culture (Good & Wood, 1995). Some of these customs and conducts differ greatly between the cultures. Some of the issues in masculinity realm as well as the psychology of men are very significant contributing aspects to the men and boy’s development, at the same time can influence their entire lives. Some of these areas are matters of multiculturalism or sexual orientation and ferocity in the community, fathering, health issues, falling behind in school as well as leadership in the family (Good & Wood, 1995).
There are several differentiating patterns of negative outcomes which can arise from boys and men during their experiences of gender role anxiety. Some of those patterns are recognized as gender role conflict and at some point they are common. For instance, several men constrict as well as contain their emotions; they rarely exhibit or show any emotion. This type of behavior has pros and cons (Cournoyer & Mahalik, 1995). The negative aspect is that it is very hard for such person to connect emotionally in the relationship. The positive aspect is the capability to remain cool as well as calm during the crisis situation.

Annie Hall became big enough to spark fashion movements and coin terms such as the “Annie Hall Look”. The film presented on screen the very issues that men and women were facing of screen, and as so, was received with widespread approval. Rather than being a statement of feminism it was a reflection of cultural ambivalence that was accepted both within the industry and in the broader culture. During that time period “back in the day”, I remember a strong feeling of independence. In the seventies I was 22 years old and renting my first apartment and my first real job. The fashion statement was vest, white shirt, white socks, oxford shoes, and wide cuff pant,in 1978, Jordache launched its line of designer jeans. Designer jeans were a symbol of fashion and style. Available in most sizes, they were cut to be skin-tight. Blouses were loose-fitting and were worn off the shoulders. The skirts were tiered. Platforms were 2-3 inches high, and disco-inspired clothes were popular. Spandex¸ polyester,and light-reflecting clothing was popular on the disco scene. As the relationship rules were being written, couples of the seventies were changing and caught in between the emotional rollercoaster of relationships turned to films like Annie Hall, which explored such issues on screen.
