Journal Topics for Blow Up
Questions:
Pay attention to the totality of Antonioni’s shot choices, mise-en-scène, camera
movement, and the way he relates actors to objects in his compositions:
1. How would you describe the color palette of the film? What are the
dominant colors?
2. What are the principal locations utilized in the film?
3. How do you feel about the photographer and supporting characters in the film
considering that…although the author Cortázar, gives him a name in his short
story, Antonioni never give him a name in the film. In the script, he is known only
as the photographer.
4. What highly effective directing strategies did you notice in scenes or sequences?
5. What meaning do you take from the scene at the end of the film?
6. Although Blow Up most effectively utilizes visuals to tell the story, there are some
very interesting lines of dialogue in the film that contribute to the theme. Did any
of them capture your attention?

Men and Role Conflict

Gender role refers to the set of socially as well as behavioral accepted customs that are believed to be socially appropriate for the persons of particular gender as permitted in the individual’s culture (Good & Wood, 1995). Some of these customs and conducts differ greatly between the cultures. Some of the issues in masculinity realm as well as the psychology of men are very significant contributing aspects to the men and boy’s development, at the same time can influence their entire lives. Some of these areas are matters of multiculturalism or sexual orientation and ferocity in the community, fathering, health issues, falling behind in school as well as leadership in the family (Good & Wood, 1995).
There are several differentiating patterns of negative outcomes which can arise from boys and men during their experiences of gender role anxiety. Some of those patterns are recognized as gender role conflict and at some point they are common. For instance, several men constrict as well as contain their emotions; they rarely exhibit or show any emotion. This type of behavior has pros and cons (Cournoyer & Mahalik, 1995). The negative aspect is that it is very hard for such person to connect emotionally in the relationship. The positive aspect is the capability to remain cool as well as calm during the crisis situation.

This document discusses different approaches to film analysis, including genre analysis and auteur theory. Genre analysis examines how a film follows or breaks conventions of its genre. Auteur theory analyzes a director's personal creative vision and tendency to blend genres. The document provides several examples of films and directors that demonstrate these theories, such as the works of Stanley Kubrick, Quentin Tarantino, and Luc Besson. It also analyzes specific films like Pulp Fiction, Quantum of Solace, and Leon in terms of their genres and directors' styles.
This document provides an overview and analysis of the 2006 film Kidulthood. It examines how the film represents teenagers and issues they face, through its characters, dialogue, scenes of violence and tension, and stylistic techniques. Key points made include that the film aims to authentically portray real life for 15-year-olds, generates tension through interactions between groups in the opening scene, and uses elements like lighting, sound and editing to create atmosphere during impactful moments. The film can be seen as depicting a "rite of passage" as characters like Trife and Alisa undergo experiences that mark their transition to adulthood.

This document discusses different ways of analyzing films, including genre analysis and auteur theory. Genre analysis examines how films follow conventions of certain genres like action or thriller, while auteur theory focuses on films from the perspective of the director's artistic vision. It provides details on various elements used in genre analysis, such as codes, conventions, settings, characters, themes, and narratives. It also discusses the role of the director as an auteur and provides examples of both genre films and auteur films like Leon and films by Quentin Tarantino and Rian Johnson. In conclusion, it argues that both genre films and auteur films are important for the film industry.
This document discusses different ways to analyze films, including genre analysis and auteur theory. Genre analysis looks at how films follow codes and conventions of their genre. Auteur theory analyzes a director's unique style and how they may blend genres or break conventions. The document then provides examples analyzing the James Bond and action genre films Quantum of Solace and Leon using the seven key areas of auteur theory: codes/conventions, characters, setting, narrative, themes, iconography, and ideological message. It contrasts how these two action films either follow or break genre conventions.
This analysis is about David Fincher and his contributions to the entertainment field. Cinemas Seven and Fight club is analyzed in these movies. Rhetoric and themes portrayed in the movies are also investigated in this analysis.
The classical Hollywood style refers to conventions used in American films from the 1920s to the 1960s. These films focused on continuity editing to seamlessly fuse sound and visual elements together to tell a coherent narrative. They also used techniques like establishing shots, flashbacks, point-of-view shots, and distinct character behaviors to engage audiences. The goal was to craft narratives and use cinematography in a way that clearly conveyed the story to viewers.
The document discusses the 1978 horror film Halloween, analyzing several technical and stylistic elements that exemplify conventions of the genre. It examines how the opening sequences establish suspense through the soundtrack, lighting, and camera techniques like close-ups. The setting of a quiet suburban town adds realism and fear. Early scenes depict icons of childhood innocence, though the disturbed killer Michael Myers subverts this. The film had a major industry impact as a low-budget success that was filmed on location instead of in studios. It established common plot rules for the slasher film subgenre.
The document discusses analyzing films through examining their use of codes and conventions. It provides examples of conventional films that follow typical narrative structures and represent characters and relationships in predictable ways. Unconventional or "auteur" films are said to challenge conventions by subverting expectations around narratives, characters, and genre tropes. Examples given include Leon, Apocalypse Now, and Pulp Fiction, which break conventions through unconventional protagonists, editing techniques, and non-linear storytelling. Analyzing a film's adherence to or challenging of codes and conventions provides insight into the filmmaker's artistic choices.

This document provides guidance for analyzing a film using genre analysis and auteur theory across three main parts and a conclusion.
In the introduction, it explains that genre analysis and auteur theory are two approaches to film analysis. It provides an example of each using the films Cowboy's and Aliens and Inception.
Part 1 defines what an auteur director is and how their style can be identified. It analyzes Pulp Fiction using auteur theory, noting Tarantino's unconventional elements.

·Why is the effort to standardize the language used in reporti.docxtawnyataylor528
Standardizing the language used in reporting clinical trials through MedDRA is important for harmonization worldwide because it allows for consistent interpretation of data across all clinical trials and countries. Using a common language and terminology in MedDRA ensures that adverse events, medical conditions, and other outcomes are classified and coded in the same way. This consistency and harmonization facilitates the sharing and comparison of data from different clinical trials and populations.

Conflict theory views crime as a product of social and economic forces that promote inequality and competition, while functionalist theory sees crime as inevitable and even somewhat beneficial to society. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Journal Topics for Blow Up Questions Pay at.docx
1. Journal Topics for Blow Up
Questions:
Pay attention to the totality of Antonioni’s shot choices, mise-
en-scène, camera
movement, and the way he relates actors to objects in his
compositions:
1. How would you describe the color palette of the film? What
are the
dominant colors?
2. What are the principal locations utilized in the film?
3. How do you feel about the photographer and supporting
characters in the film
considering that…although the author Cortázar, gives him a
name in his short
story, Antonioni never give him a name in the film. In the
script, he is known only
as the photographer.
4. What highly effective directing strategies did you notice in
scenes or sequences?
2. 5. What meaning do you take from the scene at the end of the
film?
6. Although Blow Up most effectively utilizes visuals to tell the
story, there are some
very interesting lines of dialogue in the film that contribute to
the theme. Did any
of them capture your attention?
Blow Up (1966) was produced by Italian
producer Carlo Ponti as a British-Italian co-
production. The story was adapted from a short
story by Julio Cortázar.
The film was directed by Michelangelo
Antonioni and the cinematographer was Carlo
di Palma.
Blow Up won the Grand Prix at the 1967
Cannes Film Festival.
Blow Up was one of three highly controversial
films released during 1967 that stimulated
passionate discussions among critics and
scholars. The other films included Bonnie and
Clyde(1967), and The Graduate (1967).
Running head: MEN AND ROLE CONFLICT
3. 1
Men and Role Conflict
Jenie Lopez
Excelsior
Gender role refers to the set of socially as well as behavioral
accepted customs that are believed to be socially appropriate for
the persons of particular gender as permitted in the individual’s
culture (Good & Wood, 1995). Some of these customs and
conducts differ greatly between the cultures. Some of the issues
in masculinity realm as well as the psychology of men are very
significant contributing aspects to the men and boy’s
development, at the same time can influence their entire lives.
Some of these areas are matters of multiculturalism or sexual
orientation and ferocity in the community, fathering, health
issues, falling behind in school as well as leadership in the
family (Good & Wood, 1995).
There are several differentiating patterns of negative outcomes
which can arise from boys and men during their experiences of
gender role anxiety. Some of those patterns are recognized as
gender role conflict and at some point they are common. For
instance, several men constrict as well as contain their
emotions; they rarely exhibit or show any emotion. This type of
behavior has pros and cons (Cournoyer & Mahalik, 1995). The
negative aspect is that it is very hard for such person to connect
emotionally in the relationship. The positive aspect is the
capability to remain cool as well as calm during the crisis
situation.
4. The reason I selected this topic is because community leaders,
friends, families and teachers all play a major role in assisting
the boys to understand what it is required to be a man. The
majority of media fraternity also plays a significant part in
supporting the concepts about what it is required to be a
responsible man in the society. Most of the media
interpretations about all men are compensated for physical
desirability, financial independence, violence, aggression,
control of others and self-control (Good & Wood, 1995).

Questions:
Pay attention to Hitchcock’s shot choices, camera movements,
and his blocking of
actors within scenes:
5. 1. How does Hitchcock introduce us to the two principle
characters? Where
do the scenes take place and how is the camera placed?
2. How does Hitchcock get us to identify with and care about

Notorious (1946) was produced by
independent producer David O Selznick
utilizing his production company Vanguard
Films, and distributed by RKO.
The film was directed by Alfred Hitchcock
and the cinematographer was Ted Tetzlaff.
Topics for The Philadelphia Story
6. The Philadelphia Story was produced at MGM for
a 1940 release. The film was directed by George
Cukor, one of the most important and reliable of
studio directors of the Golden Age. Cukor was
particularly adept at directing women and he
remained a top choice of producers and actresses
alike for comedies and musicals. Cukor was a
director who excelled at pacing complex stories
involving conflict between the sexes.
The film is also a generic combination of Screwball
Comedy (exploring conflicts about class, education,
politics, and family life, and remarriage with witty
dialogue), in addition to Romantic Comedy (the
conflicts to delay or ensure love and marriage.)
Questions:
Pay attention to the mise-en-scène and characters:
1. When we observe the locations and
scenes of the Lord family mansion, what
does it tell us about the family in terms of
wealth and the kinds of possessions they
value? How do we learn about them
visually?
2. How are we introduced to the major characters, Carey Grant,
Katherine Hepburn,
Jimmy Stewart, and Ruth Hussey? What do we quickly learn
about them
visually?
7. 3. How important are costume changes for the female actors,
what do they reveal
about their characters?
4. What are some of the themes of the film?
5. What impressed you about the film?
Sol Jin
Film 122B
The movie Blow Up
The director makes an effort of creating a unique movie that is
beyond reproach from the common viewer. The movie uses
different psychedelic colors in the development with the main
aim being the creation of the surreal feeling use of the
psychedelic colors also coincides with the nature of the films
since there are no words. The colors tend to set the mood for the
viewers such that he or she can insert his thoughts into the plot.
The movie does not have any dominating colors apart from the
red and blue. Blue tends to inspire the tranquility in the mid of
the viewer. Red indicates rage and sadness. While yellow
indicates flirtatious nature of the human beings. Each scene has
the psychedelic colors that are meant to sway the viewer’s
8. perception towards a certain angle.
The film was shot in different locations spread all over London.
The opening mimes in the film were shot at the economist
building in St. James’s street. This location had a significant
meaning to the film since it was a new project constructed by a
couple. The other scene involving men leaving a club was shot
in Packham. The park scene whereby the photographer shoots
the couple flirting was short in Maryon Park in Charlton. This is
the only scene that has been able to retain its originality ever
since the shoot. Scene that has maroon shop fronts was in
Stockwell road. Other locations where the movie was shot
include the regent street, Heddon Street, Pottery Lane, Prince
Palace, Cheyne Walk and Blacklands Terrace. All the locations
have the quaint appeal in the movie. The do not provide the
usual feel of the London city. However, they help in promoting
the feeling of retirees of the people.
The photographer who is unnamed in the films is in the
business out of passion as opposed to the money since he is able
to afford an expensive convertible. He is also disoriented such
that he only takes the photos of the places and people that he
likes as opposed to sticking to the assignment. The models are
part of the supporting characters. They come across as feckless
characters with shallow intellect. When the photographer moves
away out of unexplained reasons, the best that they can do is
look. They do not have the courage to approach him and ask
about the progress of their day since his absence means that
their work will not be done. They also seem to be under the
yoke of patriarchy since they just look as he walks since he is a
man. At the time of the shoot, the chances of a woman
confronting another man were minimal or nonexistent.
Antonioni brings out a unique mode of directing. He uses close
up shots to show the photos that the photographer has been
working on. He also shifts the focus of the camera towards the
photographer taking shots of his face hence allowing the
9. audience to observe the emotions that register on his face from
the onset. Instead of focusing on one story line, there is a sign
of conflict between the external events such as the arrival of the
two girls and the issue that is disturbing the photographer. The
film is directed such that the audience has hopes of arriving at
the solution of the murder case. However, the audience is left
with more confusion since the players even disappear from the
limelight. One notable line is “I thought you were supposed to
be in Paris.” The response to this line is “I am in Paris.” The
willingness of the characters to openly cheat creates the feeling
of déjà vu compounded by modern technology.
Notorious (1946)
1. Notorious 1946 is an emotional and love story that was
directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock and released by the
RKO radio pictures. The movie starts by introducing us top the
two main character Alicia Huberman and delving. Alicia was a
law abiding citizen whose father had been a convicted for being
a Nazi spy. Devlin, on the other hand, was an American agent
who was taking advantage of Alicia love for him to obtain
information about Sebastian and Nazi spy. The scene of the
movie takes place at a party when Alicia drinks to forget about
her father’s conviction. At the party, Devlin tries to convince
Alicia to spy on the Nazi despite her father loose. The position
of the camera is behind Devlin such that the only visible part is
the back of his head. The camera then moves right and left
showing the ambiguity of Alicia as she drinks to forget her
father’s crimes.
2. Hitchcock gets us to identify with care about two lead
actors Carey Grant as Alicia Huberman and Ingrid Bergman as
Devlin. Devlin is an American agent investigating about the
Nazi located in Rio, Brazil. Alicia Huberman is used as an
American spy. Alicia falls in love with Devlin, who takes the
advantage of her and makes her pretend to love Sebastian, a
10. Nazi leader. The intention of delving is to obtain information
about the Nazi leader Sebastian, something which can only be
achieved through Alicia becoming Sebastian lover.
3. Notorious 1946 is an emotional movie characterized by a
loving tone as well as a betrayal mode. Alicia feels betrayed by
her father for being convicted as Nazi spy. She goes to a club
and drinks herself to forget. Unfortunately, she meets delving
who plays with her feelings and uses her as a spy. Alicia being
naïve and guided by her love for delving she agrees to agree to
spy on the Nazi. Sebastian, the Nazi leader at Brazil, fall in
love with Alicia only to discover that Alicia was spying on him.
The mood of betrayal forces Sebastian to poison Alicia.
4. One of the most stunning and captivating shots from the
movies is where the producer allows a kiss to last for more than
three seconds. Grant and Ingrid Bergman kiss for two seconds,
then break, nuzzle and start again, until he had three minutes of
highly charged cuddling. The second most visually shorts
occurs when the camera plunges over the banister high staircase
into the bustle and glitter of the party. The camera comes
behind Alicia skimming through the guest only to find a hidden
key in her palms. This part creates unremitting suspense by
narrowing the focus on the opening of the bathroom door. The
suspense is created because the viewer thinks that it’s Sebastian
who opens the door to burst Alicia holding the key to the wines
cellar. This scene gets the maximum effect with the minimum of
elements.
5. One thing impresses me most about this movie is a vivid
description of betrayal, vengeance, and true love. For instance,
Sebastian’s mother discovers the truth about Alicia she poisons
her. After being poisoned Alicia fall ill and fails to meet
Devlin, who thinks that Alicia has fallen for Sebastian. Devlin
is tone between jealousy and love.
