Certificate research
I am going to do some research on film certificates to decide a suitable certificate
for my film.
 U (suitable for all)- These films contains mild language (things like ‘Damn’
and ‘Hell’) and maybe a mild fight scene that resolved quickly. Most U
films show a positive message for the younger viewers.
 PG (Parental Guidance)- These films could contain scenes of bullying or
racism, these films may also contain some bad language and mild
violence.
 12A and 12- 12A means children under 12 must accompanied by an adult.
These films contain brief scenes of nudity and strong language moderate
violence is also shown but no emphasis is shown on blood and injuries.
Some horror films can also be passed as a 12 or 12A
 15- these films could contain; strong violence, frequent strong language,
portrayals of sexual activity, strong verbal references to sex, nudity,
sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence, discrimination,
drug taking. At 15 there can be a strong threat and horror as long as is
doesn’t focus too much on sexual violence or sexualised threats.
 18(Adults)- these films contain; strong violence, frequent strong
language, frequent portrayals of sexual references, strong horror, strong
blood and gore and discrimination. As this is for adults there is no limit on
any of these things.
I will make my film certificate an 18 as my film will contain lots of blood and
gore, however the only issue with this is that my film does not have a varied
audience and therefore may not do as well.
