This document defines and provides examples of various figures of speech including irony, climax, and anti-climax. It then provides examples of sentences that use these figures of speech as well as a quiz with additional examples. 2. Irony
• A figure of speech in which one thing is
said when the opposite is meant.
Example:
How good of you to refuse
to help us.

3. Climax
• A figure of speech in which the intensity of
the thought or emotion gradually increases
in each successive words or phrases.
Example:
She dreamt of having a maid, a car and a
house.

4. Anti - Climax
• Results when the climactic order is
reversed.
Example:
The politician lost his wife, his son and his
parrot in one full swoop.
