A fiber optic gyroscope was designed and built to demonstrate the Sagnac effect using optical fibers, a diode laser, and machine shop skills. The project aimed to gain experience with fiber optic handling and polishing, machine shop techniques, and understanding the principles of fiber optic gyroscopes and the Sagnac effect. While a working prototype was not completed due to lacking a laser and fiber optic experience, the project provided learning opportunities in fiber optics, machine shop skills, and lab experimentation.
