INTRODUCTION
 Feminism is a movement about making revolutionary changes to our
culture and power relations between men and women.
 Feminism has a different meaning for almost every women around the
world.
Society is male dominated and seek to change this
 Feminism is a political movement and a sociological theory
 Ideas such as equality, and the idea that, through human reason, a better
society can be created
 The principles of the enlightenment should apply to women as well as
men, and its goals should include gender equality
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 3
There are 03 waves of feminism
The First Wave- occurred during the nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries
 The Second Wave- occurred during the 1960’s and 1990’s.
The Third Wave - considered as the timeframe from 1990’s to
present day

LIBERAL FEMINISM
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 6
•Liberal feminism is a traditional perspective that was established as
a part of the first wave of feminism. It is often the root of comparison
when deconstructing contemporary conceptualizations of feminism.
•It argues that “society has a false belief that women are by nature
less intellectually and physically capable than men”(Tong, 2009, p. 2).
and physically capable than men”(Tong, 2009, p. 2).
•This perspective seeks to level the playing field that would allow
women to seek the same opportunities as men, especially the
opportunity to excel in various fields.
•Modern liberal feminists argue that patriarchal society fuses sex
and gender together, making only those jobs that are associated with
the traditionally feminine appropriate for women to pursue.
CONTINUE..
Focused Points of Liberal Feminism
Equal rights and opportunities
Equal participation of female in labour market
Male should take equal household responsibility
It does not focus on sexual differences
It is silent on patriarchal aspects
It also do not must care about essentialism
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 7
MARXIST FEMINISM
PERSPECTIVEThis lens on feminism incorporates perspectives of social justice as well as
socioeconomic differences.
Women’s subordination based on class oppression
Emancipation of women related with capitalism
Marxist feminists argue that the path to gender equality is led by the
destruction of our capitalist society
This analyzes aliened the subordination of the women with the exclusion
from the public sphere of production and their subsequent relegation to
reproductive labour within the household
Marxist feminists emphasize how capitalism uses the family to oppress
women, and the harmful consequences of the family to women‟s lives.
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 8
CONTINUE..
Marxist feminism advocate a two pronged attack
•Fight capitalism
•Fight patriarchy
It is silent regarding sexual division of labour
There is not any society or family which has equal relation between male
and female
It does not focus on education and empowerment of women to bring them
in equal position
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 9
RADICAL FEMINISM
Started after 1960 ,the second most notable form of feminism.
Focused on sexuality and violence
Emphasize on homosexuality
See patriarchy as power to men
Radical feminism can be further deconstructed in to two types
 Sexual and reproductive oppression
 Cultural radical feminism
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 10
CONTINUE..
Radical Feminists believes it can be done through:
Change – find technology which allow baby to grow outside of a women’s
body – to promote more equality between men and women
Allow women to avoid missing work for maternity leave – get promoted as
quickly as men
Traditional family structure should be rejected
Argue that the entire traditional family system is sexist
Men are expected to work outside while women are expected to care babies
and clean houses
Traditional dichotomy maintain men as economically in power over women6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 11
Radical feminism has evolved with different strands
and tendencies:
 cultural feminism
 separatist feminism
 Anti-pornography feminism.
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 12
ANALYTIC FEMINISM
The term ‘analytic feminism’ came into use in the early 1990s
in North America
Analytic feminists have attempted to rehabilitate certain key
concepts, such as truth, reason, objectivity, agency and
autonomy, because it‟s compelling and some ways liberating and
empowering for women.
We can introduce analytic feminism under this 03 catageries
1.Doctrines
2.Bridge building
3.Reconstructing philosophy
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 13
CONSERVATIVE FEMINISM
conservative feminists” are trying to create a brave new world of
submissive women.
 Conservative feminism criticizes the feminism which “adopts a
male model of careerism and public achievement as female
goals, thereby denying women’s need for intimacy
(fertilization), family, and children.
Such conservatives worry about the radical implications of liberal
feminism, its willingness to put women‟s autonomy ahead of
institutions and norms on which many people rely for their well-
being
Conservatism think just because she is a woman she is a feminist.
They pretend to be protecting women‟s rights and shout against
rights to abortion, divorce, run a public office, get a job or do
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 14
CONTINUE..
The new right model of the family has been seen as intolerant
and not inclusive – gay relationships, reconstituted families,
unmarried parents and especially single mothers are all
condemned by the logic of Conservative Feminism
Conservative feminism means empowering women in the
workplace, politics, and in society to achieve equal opportunity.
It does not and should not mean radicalizing feminism to
connotatively and definitely include only liberal issues like
abortion and promoting an immoral sexual culture
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 15
CRITICISMS OF FEMINIST
PERSPECTIVESfeminist
perspectives
criticisms
liberal
The claim that women can become like men if they set their mind to
it
The claim that most women want to become like men
The claim that all women should want to become like men, to
aspire to masculine values
Marxsist
Silent on sexual division of labour
Only focused on economic classification
There is not a single society where the relationship between men and
women are equal
It does not talk on empowerment of women
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 16
Radical
 How to bridge gender gap- Radical Feminism
does not focus
 It does not address labour division and
unequal economic relation
 It has a great contribution to uplift women’s
situation
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 17
SUMMARY
Liberal feminism – Reformism
Radical Feminism – patriarchy
Marxist Feminism – Capitalism
Anarchist Feminism – Domination
Conservative Feminism – Exploitation
6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 18
CONCLUSION
Gender is a basic organizing concept .
There are many views about what the term of feminism means
and what its aims in struggle are .it is about opposing
patriarchy or male domination.it is not about uflifting women to
become men or to have the power men have currently.
 feminism has never meant anything more frightening than a
belief in political, social, and economic equality for women and
men. Like all social movements, it was radical in the beginning,
and has grown very slowly
Gender relations are best understood in sociocultural and
historical context

CONCLUSION Gender is a basic organizing concept . There are many views about what the term of feminism means and what its aims in struggle are .it is about opposing patriarchy or male domination.it is not about uflifting women to become men or to have the power men have currently.  feminism has never meant anything more frightening than a belief in political, social, and economic equality for women and men. Like all social movements, it was radical in the beginning, and has grown very slowly Gender relations are best understood in sociocultural and historical context 6/8/2018 FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES OF PEACE 32464 19
