6. Conference Registration Discount
• Oregon Problem Gambling Services (PGS) providers are receiving a
conference registration discounted rate of $85/day or $170 for full
general conference. (ECPG member price). Please register by
April 1 to receive the discounted rate.

• To receive the discounted rate, you must note on registration
that you are Oregon PGS provider by using the code OHA.
• On hard copy registration forms, please write OHA next to the
total amount of conference paid.
• For online registration, register for general conference
registration type, and a discount box should appear where you
can add OHA, or it will be an option.

7. Conference Subsidy Available
• Similar to past conferences, PGS and OCPG are offering
opportunity to subsidize conference expenses.
• Subsidies are only available when employers are not covering all of
the conference expenses.
• Guidelines and subsidy application form sent by Greta via email on
2-6-18.

• Subsidy requests must be received by April 20, 2018.

8. Conference Scholarship provided by
Oregon Lottery
• The Lottery is offering 3 full scholarships for the Focus on the Future
conference that includes tuition for the pre-conference workshops
and main conference; lodging; mileage; and per diem for meals not
provided by the conference.
Requirements:
• Must be a counselor or prevention specialist currently working with
an Oregon Health Authority funded provider.
• Applicant’s agency does not have available funds to financially
support the applicant’s attendance.
• Email was sent by Greta on 2-6 with requirement and how to apply.
Request email resent if needed. Deadline is February 28.

• Determined the areas that we need to collect data for
recommendations.

populations to be surveyed (PG Providers, BH Providers, BH
Students or Studies, Clients)
• Expect Survey on Workforce Development from ACCBO in Late
February/early March
• Expect Survey on Workforce Development from Oregon PGS in late
March.

14. Updates on 5 Year Plan
• Initiative 1: Collaboration
• Initiative: Reach out to representatives of state agencies and
explore opportunities to partner on common ground initiatives where
addressing problem gambling supports fellow state agency’s goals.
• In February, Oregon PGS met with:
– Department of Public Safety Standards and Training’s (DPSST) Crisis
Intervention Team (CIT) Coordinators and Academy Instructors, and
– Department of Veterans Affair’s Oregon Women Veterans Coordinator.

15. Department of Corrections (DOC)
• Currently collaborating with DOC to survey each intake into
Department of Corrections to determine prevalence of gambling of
those in the criminal justice system, and need for further resources.
• Survey distribution began in August 2017.
• Anticipate completing around April 2018 in order to ensure good
sample size (1500-2000) and good representation of each gender.
• Results should be available in Summer 2018 and will be shared.
• Results will be used to further plan and next steps of problem
gambling services within DOC system.

16. DPSST Meeting
• CIT- A Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program is a model for
community policing that brings together law enforcement, mental
health providers, hospital emergency departments and individuals
with mental illness and their families to improve responses to people
in crisis. CIT programs enhance communication, identify mental
health resources for assisting people in crisis and ensure that
officers get the training and support that they need.
– CIT programs provide officers with 40 hours of intensive training,
including:
• Learning from mental health professionals and experienced officers in your
community.
• Personal interaction with people who have experienced and recovered from
mental health crisis and with family members who have cared for loved ones
with mental illness.
• Verbal de-escalation skills.
• Scenario-based training on responding to crises
• National Program that is being heavily implemented into Oregon

• Going to provide co-occurring information, basic pg information,
criminal justice and pg information and self care to Coordinators for
infusion of problem gambling into addictions coursework of those
going through the academy- Police, Corrections, Parole and
Probation.

• Attend CIT Regional Training in March with resource table

Pass, Salem and Portland. These centers focus on MH and PTSD.
Vets go here when they don’t want to use hospitals.
