The giant panda is a bear native to central-western and south western China. It is identifiable by its large, distinctive black patches around its eyes, ears, and body. Despite being classified as carnivorous, the panda's diet consists mainly of bamboo, though it has the digestive system of a carnivore. Pandas also occasionally eat other plants and small amounts of meat. They are endangered due to loss of habitat from human activities like farming and deforestation. There are estimated to be around 1,500 giant pandas currently living in the wild.
