Mughals empire
The Mughal Empire was founded in 1526 by Babur and dominated India for over 200 years until the mid-1800s. It prospered under the first six emperors, known as the Great Mughals, including Akbar who greatly expanded the empire. However, conflicts under later emperors like Aurangzeb led to a decline. The empire ended in 1858 when the British deposed the last Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah II, and established direct rule over India.
Humayun and Sher Shah Suri
Humayun became Mughal emperor in 1530 but lacked experience in consolidating the new dynasty. He was defeated by Sher Shah Suri in 1539. Sher Shah established the Sur Empire, introducing administrative reforms. Humayun went into exile for 15 years before regaining control in 1555, but died within a year. Sher Shah proved to be a gifted ruler, building the Grand Trunk Road and establishing a unified currency before dying in an explosion in 1545.
Mongolian Empire
The Mongol Empire spanned from 1206-1368 over a vast area of 33 million square kilometers and was divided into different regions ruled as vassal states. It was a simply but effectively organized military force composed of horse archers, lance cavalry, and engineers. The Yuan Dynasty established by Kublai Khan ruled China from 1271-1368 and preceded the Ming Dynasty. Marco Polo was a Venetian trader and explorer who was one of the first Westerners to travel the Silk Road to China and provide accounts of life in the Mongol Empire and Yuan Dynasty in the 13th century.
Decline of the Ottoman Empire
The Ottoman Empire experienced a long decline due to both internal and external factors. Internally, the empire had an oversized and inefficient bureaucracy, inept rulers, a traditional economy that rejected new technologies, and oppression of religious minorities. Externally, new trade routes weakened the Ottoman economy, European powers developed militarily and economically, and subject nationalities sought independence. Reform efforts were often blocked by conservatives and failed to sufficiently modernize the empire's institutions. This decline earned the Ottomans the name "The Sick Man of Europe".
Safavid Empire
The Safavid Empire was an Iranian empire established in the 16th century by Shah Ismail I, who united Iran and established Twelver Shi'ism as the official religion. Key aspects included its nomadic Turkic origins, Ismail declaring himself the incarnation of God to his followers, and making Isfahan the capital. - 4. Mehmet II was born on 29th March 1432, in Edirne. He was the son of Sultan Murad II. His mother was Huma Hatun. Mehmed (or Mahomed) the Conqueror was tall, full faced, well muscled and strong, with a ruddy complexion and a ram-like nose. Mehmet II was a statesman and a military leader. 4
- 5. He was quiet, calm and courageous. He was one of the most eminent and learned men of his time, gathering poets, artists and learned men around him. He was also interested in literature, fine arts and monumental architecture. Also Mehmet was a good poet.He was educated by famous scholar Aksemseddin. He was also interested in philosophy and science. He invited Ali Kuscu the famous astronomer to the observatory in Istanbul . 5
- 6. Mehmet II was ascended the throne in his 20th year. He took the name “conqueror” (fatih) after the conquest of Istanbul on 29thMay 1453. 6
- 7. The conquest of Istanbul spelled the end of the Byzantine Empire and entered a phase of urban revival under the wise and tolerant administrations of Mehmet and his immediate successors. 7
- 8. The capture of Istanbul was followed by a long succession of campaigns which resulted in a tremendous extension of direct Ottoman rule. 8
- 9. Among those areas that fell to Mehmet II were Serbia, Greece, the Empire of Trezibizond, Wallachia, Bosnia, Karaman, Albania and several Venetian and Geneose maritime establishments. 9
- 10. Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror proved himself to be one of the greatest Emperors in the history of the world by his selfless work on behalf of the Moslem world. He was a very strict statesman and a very brave soldier. He took place in front of his army in the wars and he encouraged his soldiers. 10
- 11. He ruled the Ottoman Empire for 30 years. During his sultanate he commanded the armies in 25 campaigns and expanded the Ottoman kingdom from 900,000 to 2,214,000 square kilometres. 11
- 12. Fatih Sultan Mehmet’s reign was known for its tolerance of religious differences and intellectual vigor; the Sultan himself spoke seven languages and was responsible for the construction of eight universities. 12
- 13. He was an avid art collector; developed a particular interested in the Renaissance; forged cultural ties with the West, and maintained a personal library filled with texts on medicine, geography, philosophy, and ancient history. 13
- 14. Under his rule, the Ottoman Empire’s civil and criminal laws were codified into a single body of law. The Sultan is widely regarded as a gifted linguist and is credited with introducing the word “politics” into the Arabic language. 14
- 15. The emperor had died on 3rd May 1481. He was buried in “Fatih Turbesi” (tomb), near the Mosque of Fatih in Istanbul. 15
