FACILITY LAYOUT looks at physical allocation of
space of economic activity in the plant.
The main objective of facility layout is to design
effective workflow as to make equipment and
workers more productive.

3. Facilitate communication.

10. TYPES OF FACILITY LAYOUT
1. PROCESS LAYOUT:- The process Layout is one in which all
machines or processes of the same type are grouped together.
The process layout is best for the firms that produces small
number of wide variety of products.
For example-- Manufacturer of custom machinery , libraries and
banks etc.

2. PRODUCT LAYOUT:- The product layout is one in which
machines and auxiliary services are located according to the
processing sequence of the product.
The product layout is selected when the volume of production of
product is high such that a separate production line to
manufacture it can be justified.
For example -Automobile assembly and Self service cafeteria .

3.FIXED-POSITION LAYOUT:- The product stay in one
place while men and machinery move to it as
Products that are impossible to move – ships,
airplanes and construction projects are typically
produced using a fixed-position layout.
The fixed-position layout is also common for on-
services such as landscaping and pest control.

4. CELLULAR LAYOUT:- Cellular layout combine
some aspects of both product and fixed-position
layouts.
Work cells are small , self-contained production
that include several machines and workers
in a compact ,sequential order.

5.HYBRID LAYOUT:- It is also know as MIXED LAYOUT.
It uses the combination of either some or all of the four layout
types.
For example– Hospitals, restaurants etc.
