2. THE KABADIWALA
The Kabadiwala is an end-to-end waste management solution accelerating circular economy through
a technology platform that links each key stakeholder involved in a waste management chain to
transparently trace & increase waste collection, segregation, trade & recycling.
Their aim is to redefine the waste management value chain by bringing in efficiency, transparency
and recovery through technology and logistics optimization. What makes them unique They have
stakeholder in the waste management value chain which includes Waste generators(Collection App),
and Recyclers ( Marketplace app). Their tech helps waste-pickers to segregate and manage their
increase the price value they get for material recovered from waste. It is helping brands to fulfil their
ULB digitize the resources recovered at the material recovery facility.
The Kabadiwala works in the waste management sector and buys waste just
like local scrap dealers from the doorstep in favour of money. What
differentiates The Kabadiwala from traditional scrap dealers is the
internet.
3. INITIATIVES
• MATTRESS CIRCULAR JOURNEY : ISPF, IPUA and The Kabadiwala came together to initiate
India’s first mattress recycling campaign which is named as ‘Feko Nahi Recycle Karo’. The objective
is to encourage the community to practise sustainable disposal of Mattress.
• TETRA PACK INITIATIVE : The Kabadiwala collaborated with TetraPak India (World’s Leading
Beverage Carton Manufacturer) to increase the collection of used beverage cartons (UBC’s) for
recycling and diverting them from landfills.
• TREE PLANTATION INITIATIVE : Since the last two years, The Kabadiwala has been following a
tradition of planting trees on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday. In which, our customers
also take part in our mission to turn Bhopal greener.
• KITAB GHAR INITIATIVE : is a combined effort of The Kabadiwala & Bhopal Municipal Corporation
that aims at providing second hand books to the underprivileged children by acquiring them from
the people who no longer need them.
• PLASTIC WALL INITIATIVE : On International Plastic Bag Free day, The Kabadiwala placed a wall
made up of polythene bags, wrappers, and plastic packing material, in a busy market area to block
people’s way.
5. STRENGTHS
• Entrepreneurial environment : KABADIWAL promotes new
programs and is leading edge of recycyling and waste
desposal.
• Good market segmentation : as have customers broke into
residential and business, and then further into the type of
services it needs for each of the geographic areas.
• Good benefits for employees : including medical, family care,
financial and professional development.
• Supplies the demand for specialized waste pickup like medical,
hazardous waste .
6. WEAKNESS
• Traditional method preference : Huge section of society still opt
out in giving their house scrap to small kabadiwalas.
• Marketing - found little to no marketing for local areas. Known
within industry but need to improve time/place utility with
general population.
• Seems to be poor corporate culture based on internet postings
on a couple websites. Main complaints are bad management.
7. OPPORTUNITIES
• Garbage isn't going away : Thus it has a never ending business.
with growing technologies garbage will nodoubtly grow more.
• Waste-to-energy is the new area of waste management and the
company is already involved , so it's easy to jump on new
opportunities in the global arena.
• Oligopoly (handful of competitors selling similar/different; high
barriers to entry, especially startup costs)
• Demand is there to develop new ways to recycle and reuse,
and create energy and lesson impact of garbage on the
environment.
8. THREATS
• New companies are emerging that are challenging kabadiwala
on recycling and energy programs.
• The waste industry is subject to extensive government
regulation; existing or future regulations and/or enforcement
actions may restrict our operations, increase our costs of
operations or require us to make.
• Dynamically Continuous and Discontinuous innovation - hard to
get people to change and embrace new ideas - for waste
management this will include changing what/how recycle and
how we throw away trash; people everywhere want the easy
way, and to improve waste management, will take more effort
on everyone's part.
9. CONCLUSION
It is not simply enough to identify the STRENGTH, WEAKNESS, OPPORTUNITIES
and THREATS of a business unit. It applying the SWOT analysis it is necessary to
minimise or avoid both weakness and threats. Weakness should be analysed in order to
convert them into strengths. Likewise, threats should be converted into opportunities
