This study critically evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of three grammars: prescriptive, descriptive, and transformational generative grammar (TGG) to determine their appropriateness for contemporary English learners. It concludes that rather than favoring one grammar, a synthesis of all three should be utilized for a more holistic approach to teaching and learning English. The research highlights the societal expectations for English usage and advocates for inclusion of various grammatical models in education to bridge knowledge gaps.
