Causes Of European Exploration
Europe s Age of Exploration and Discovery began around 1453 when the Ottoman Turks conquered
Constantinople, which resulted in the fall of the Byzantine Empire. This conquest cut off most
European access to this area, severely limiting trade with the Middle East, especially China and
India. Furthermore, Venice and the Ottoman Empireestablished a monopoly over trade, which
irritated Europeand sparked their desire to reconnect with the East and restore direct trade relations
with Asia. Europe s desire to discover alternate trade routes in order to participate in Asian silk and
spice trades was ultimately a primary cause for European exploration and conquest during the 15th
and 16th centuries. Secondarily, Europe s intention to expand and... Show more content on

Thus, a primary cause of European exploration in the 15th and 16th centuries was Europe s desire
to find new routes to Asia in order to participate in trade with the Middle East.
A secondary cause of European exploration during the 15th and 16th century was the desire to
spread and expand Christianity. In the early 1400s, Christianity was the only religion in Europe,
and European rulers desired to make it the global religion by endeavoring to convert the worldly
population to Christianity. This desire motivated religious Europeans to search and explore new
lands for new people to convert. When the Ottoman Turks had conquered Constantinople in 1453,
the territory that was previously the Christian Byzantine Empire had become Muslim. Therefore,
European Christians, mainly Catholics, wanted to cease the expansion of Islam and convert non
Christians around the world to the faith, leading to the exploration of new lands. Also during the
15th century, many Christian missionaries called Jesuits, such as Francis Xavier, focused on
missionary work in order to gain new followers. The Jesuits dedication to missionary work resulted
in them travelling to and exploring unknown areas in order to find new people to convert to
Christianity. Thus, the

How Does Petruchio Dehumanize Women
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, any outsider would be able to attest that Katherine and Petruchio
don t have a standard relationship for the entirety of the play, and you must look at exaggerations
used and view the play as a whole. When Gremio and Petruchio use more deeming imagery,
Shakespeare is criticizing the dehumanization of women going on at the time. Petruchio on several
different times makes reference to Katherine being a haggard, a type of untrainable falcon, in terms
of them both being difficult to train, thus dehumanizing Katherine. This viewpoint shows the
ridiculousness of having women being subordinate to men. Shakespeare also criticizes how people

Katherine and Petruchio begin their relationship with him starving, manipulating her words, and
not allowing her to sleep, which is not condoned by Shakespeare. These unrealistic and
exaggerated actions that pain Katherine are used to critique the treatment of women and their role
in society. Shakespeare is not condoning these actions but rather emphasizing their irrationality.
Shakespeare continues criticizing the role of women with demonstrating Baptista and how he is
neglectful of Katherine, showing poor treatment will lead to the shrew behavior, in comparison to
Bianca who is praised for everything, therefore is more desirable with a seemingly hire position in
society. The position of women is based on their attractiveness as a spouse to men. There is no
mother figure in the book so Katherine doesn t have a female role model to look up to, so
Shakespeare is alluding to the importance women have in society in terms of creating more
intelligent creatures. Petruchio treats Katherine as an equal in the scene where they first meet,
exchanging intellectual banter towards the two of

Next stop is Euler Park. announced the bus conductor on a microphone. Being 8 at night, the bus
was rather empty with very few passengers on it. From the end seat, a tall fair man with a
briefcase stood up. He walked to the gate. The conductor returned a smile as the man asked him to
halt the bus in front of the park in a Russian accent. His clothes were roughly worn. There was no
smile on his round sweaty face. With a jerk, the bus halted.
Euler Park has a huge lake in its heart surrounded by small compartment shaped lawns with seats
laid close to the perimeter of the lake. Being a clean and cold place with no hustle from the busy
streets, it is an ideal place for romance and picnic. But since the park is huge, many children nearby

Sir, said the stunned Vladimir in a fast pace. He had woken up from nightmare to an even more
frightening raspy voice. I have done what you have asked me to do, and here is your money.
Vladimir pointed to the briefcase on the seat.
Good job. Now go to your home and rest tonight. You will receive your reward soon.
Vladimir would have loved to receive his price right there so that he could flee from this place that
haunted him, but he knew that questioning this man would be harder than he could ever imagine.
With eyes set to the ground in front of him, he decided to walk away silently.
The next morning, two teenage girls came to play in the park. They had typical signs of late
puberty. Wearing cropped white tee shirt and hot pants, they were there for their regular morning
practice session. One had a ball in her hand. And the other carried a back pack which she rested on
a bleacher seat, and pulled out two white towels and two bottles filled with water.
Warm up is necessary before any game. They started jogging around the park as they usually do.
Although there was lesser fog than at night, a shady atmosphere prevailed. Tall trees filled with
chirruping birds made darker spots. A few flowers grew around the park, mostly dried up due to the

The Struggle For Lgbt Rights
The Struggle for LGBT+ Rights in America Brought together by various organizations, and united
by shared persecution, the gay community came together and pushed for their rights, and were
able to obtain them through science and litigation. The outset of the gay rights movement can be
traced back to World War I. The World War brought America out of its isolationism and exposed
Americans to life outside America. For the first time Americans saw firsthand the way countries
like, England, France, Germany, and others treated their citizens. For many Americans World War
I was a catalyst for change, and the fight for gay rights is no exception. From 1920 1923 Henry
Gerber served with the U.S. Army in allied occupied Germany. There, he witnessed... Show more

Gerber would be tried three times before being found not guilty, but by then the damage was
done. Gerber would lose his life savings and job before moving to New York and reenlisting into
the Army. While serving Gerber would continue his crusade for gay rights. He would lead a
correspondence club called connections, which would become a national network for gay men.
He would also go on to write articles for various publications, arguing for gay rights, under a pen
name.Though Society for Human Rights failed in its longevity the seeds for the gay rights
movement in America had been sowed. In the late 1940s the gay rights movement would
receive aegis from an unlikely source, science. In the 1940s, while teaching a course on
marriage, scientist Alfred Kinsey noticed there was very little scientific data on sex. He spent the
next years applying the principles of scientific research to the topic of sexual behavior. In 1948
Kinsey published his first book Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. The book was based on more
than 10,000 interviews, during which, subjects answered very candid and personal questions. The
book sold close to 500,000 copies and Kinsey used the royalties for further research. Even though
the sold, its contents were still extremely taboo, for the time. The book, itself, deals with human

Why Do Americans Value Personal Control
1. What do you agree with? Americans value personal control over the environment, time and its
control, equality, individuals and privacy, self help control, equality, directness, and material
possessions. Like in the example of moon landings, Americans seem to try to do things never
accomplished before, not taking things for granted. This is evidenced in the Civil Rights
Movement, where people fought for their rights despite harsh retaliation. The American valueof time
and its control can be noticed throughout all businesses and schools. At a young age, children are
taught to be on time, and as adults, not arriving to places on time will greatly change others
perceptions. As shown by the dislike of socialism, herd mentality, and intrusion... Show more

This is evident in school. Compared to many countries around the world, the classroom is not a
very competitive atmosphere; it is in fact somewhat relaxed. In China, for example, class rank is
often public, and many students are driven by parents to study more and go to better colleges
than their peers. In America, students seem to care more about social lives, and many will
choose colleges that they think they will be happy at. This also shows that Americans do not
strongly value action/work orientation and future orientation, as most students would often
rather relax and enjoy their lives, rather than prepare ardently for their futures. Americans are not
very informal and casual, with strict social rules that are not always evident in other countries.
For example, to walk the streets barefoot would be odd and possibly mocked here, whereas people
in poorer countries may do it on a day to day basis. Furthermore, dinner table rules are rather
strict compared to other places. In China, meals seem louder and more casual than in America.
Finally, practicality seems to be less of a concern than general look or value. A person may buy a
pair of shoes simply for their design, even if it is awkward and out of place in his/her daily

Paganism In Beowulf
В¬By definition, a Pagan is a person who has religious beliefs other than those of the main world
religion. The epic poem Beowulf was passed down verbally from generation to generation with
enlightening Pagan teachings and elements. Christian elements were not included in the poem until
a Christian monk added them when it was put as written text. However, the Christian aspects
collide with the Pagan elements found in the poem. Beowulfwas originally told with only Pagan
elements. In the article The Essential Pagan Elements in Beowulf , it explains Pagan elements
included in the story such as dragons and magic. We do not hear anything about saints, angels, or
any particular dogmatic points (Moorman). In the Pagan religionwhen a hero or important... Show

Things such as magic, unnatural creatures, and strange scenarios play a huge role in their faith.
However, Christians believe that things such as dragons, witches, magic and the dark arts are of
Satan. While the Pagans view the dragon as a fire breathing, greedy creature keeping treasure in
its lair, the Christians view it as the devil making the setting of hell. The equivalent of Beowulf
in the Christian faith would be Jesus Christ. He came into the world (lair) and freed us from sins
(hell). Pagans view Beowulf as having superhuman powers that let him overcome any trial he
may face. For example of Beowulf s strength, he lifted the giant s magical sword when nobody
else could. His strength is matched by Christian faith with the story of Jesus was resurrected and
came out from the tomb he was buried in. Beowulf fought for peace in the land of Geatland and
Danes. Christ made peace with everyone. They both share qualities of the desire for peace. The
biggest comparison between Beowulf and Jesus Christ is when they both died to save other
people. According to Christian belief, Christ was crucified to save everyone from death.
Beowulf was killed by the dragon in order to save someone else and to calm his soul from the
loss of his village. Christ also found his true followers when he was carrying the cross and they
came to help him. Just like in Beowulf how Wiglaf is Beowulf s companion because he fights by
his side through thick and thin.

Why Rome Fell Essay
I like clothes. 3 things that could go wrong with picking out outfits is colors, length/ size, or
patterns. Picking colors that match look better or if you were going to a party or celebration,
wearing a dress with 1 color is the best decision to go with. Lengths also matter, never wear
anything to short or to long for your comfort. Or if the piece of clothingis too tight or too loose.
Patterns are the most important when picking outfits, a lot like colorthe pattern(s) should match or
at least compliment each other. Just like an outfit can look ugly or messy, so can an empire.
One important reason why rome fell was lots of political assassinations. Within 50 years and 22

Evidence that supports this reason is that there were 5 different invaders, 3 from asia and the
other 2 were in already in Europe. One of the 3 invaders from asia, were the Huns. The Huns were
described as ugly, ignorant, savage, wild animals, slaughter s and refuges. This contributed to why
Rome fell because that 5 different foreign invaders attacked Rome from all angles.
While the first 2 reasons were important, the primary reason for the fall of Rome was because of
natural disasters. In Rome of 366 C.E. an earthquake hit Rome and killed 250,000 1 million
citizens and not only that, the earthquake also caused a flood that killed 50,000 more people. A
total of 300,000 1,050,000 citizens/Romans killed by 1 earthquake. Therefore, this is the most
important reason for the fall of Rome.
It is true that there are other great reasons why Rome fell. For example, legal injustice which is a
quality relating to unfairness or undeserved outcomes. reference to a particular event or situation, or
to a larger status quo. In Western philosophy and jurisprudence, injustice is very commonly but not
always defined as either the absence or the opposite of justice. However, the three reasons
represented above political assassinations, foreign invaders, and especially natural disasters provide
the best explanation for why Rome finally crumbled in the 5th century

The Great Purge And Was A Social Policy Of Stalin
Stalin is a name everyone probably has heard at some point, most likely in a history class that you
have long forgotten now. However people tend to not know that during his time as Premier of the
Soviet Union he killed more people than Hitler did. This could have been through his policies or
his Five year plans. Joseph Stalinruled the Soviet Unionfrom 1929 to 1953 when he died. In that 24
year span he killed an estimated 50 million people (Haines) and this doesn t include the lives lost
in WW2. For some reason, it something that we do not learn in history; it is excluded from our
history books. This is called the Great Purgeand was a social policy of Stalin, he was collecting
Jewish people though he was after opponents to his regime. Between 1934 and 1939 stalin set in
a motion to have about в…“ of the three million communist officials purged (Freedland). These
people were either sent to a work camp or a gulag, put on trial where they were forced to plead
guilty, or they were just executed. This was a policy of his that would secure his place in the
communist party, he even went as far to have pictures of himself edited so that he wasn t in them
with certain people. Stalin also sent his son, Yakov Dzhugashvili, to the eastern front hoping he
would die. He did this because Yakov was an active opponent of his father (Evans). When he was
captured the Nazi s tried ransoming him back, to which stalin said to kill him; which is what
happened. Having purged the party he could

Environmental Policy
There s a Snake Eating my Dog!
The environmental stepwise process is a process people take to implement, assess, and interpret
environmental related policies. The first step is to identify the problem, this is rather simple
because there are lots of problems in our day day lives. Next you have to Pinpoint the roots of the
problem, followed by envisioning a solution for these problems. Now, a particular issue could have
multiple causes, and thus multiple solutions. The you will get organized; when it comes to
influencing policy, organizations are usually more successful than individual people are. The next
step is the hardest, To cultivate access and influence. If you have a moving issue, influencing won t

Greenwash their products into seeming more environmentally friendly.
In our everglades and the surrounding areas of Florida, there is an ever growing issue taking
place. This is an issue that many people are aware of and fear. They fear for their lives but should
they be afraid? Many people think that large constrictors are dangerous to humans, but little do
people understand that they are JUST as dangerous as a feral cat or dog. I m not saying you should
go pick up a wild burmese python and take it home as a pet. However, what I am saying, is there
have been some major overreactions to the invasion of large constrictors.
The large constrictor issue is suspected to have began with a breeding facility for large
constrictors in the everglades. What happened was a complete accident. As common practice
breeders keep their snakes in tubs on large racks, and it is rumored that during a hurricane the tubs
of his breeding stock were knocked over and the large constrictors released into the everglades
where they have since learned to

Carbon Fiber Essay
INTRODUCTION
Background
Aerospace design applications rely heavily on weight reduction, structural integrity and optimize
performance. Engineers and designers have adopted carbon fiber composite due to its high
modulus reinforcement fibers embedded in an epoxy matrix. Also called graphite fiber or carbon
graphite, carbon fiber consists of very thin strands of the element carbon. Each fiber is 5 10
microns in diameter as shown on Figure 1, one micron (um) is 0.000039 inches. Carbon fiber
composite material is a special candidate for aerospace applications because of its high tensile
strength, corrosion and fire resistant properties, which provides functional integrity by design,
results in high strength and light weight construction that could be formed into practically any
shape or form. These fibers are constructed with multiple laminate which are bonded together with a
matrix or resin system. When combined with resin and wound or molded to form composite
materials, a high strength to weight ratio is achieved.
Figure 1.
Carbon fiber 5 microns
Carbon Composite Materials Under industrial production now, carbon fibers are classified into
PAN based (polyacrylonitrile based) seen on figure 2, pitch based (coal tar and petroleum products)
and rayon based. The manufacturing of carbon fiber involves a chemical and mechanical process.
Mixing the precursor and co monomer then drawing the fiber out the chemical mixture then
mechanically stretching and coating the fibers. The

Gospel Is The Good News
The word gospel is derived from Old English meaning good news or glad tidings . The Greek word
euangelion which means good message is the the source for the word evangelist. 1.
Mark s Gospel, now considered the first of the synoptic gospels makes no delay in the
identification of who this man, Jesus, is. He is the Messiah, the anointed one, from the Greek word
Christos. From the very first verse of this Gospel, the evangelist knows and proclaims who Jesus is:
the Messiah, the Son of God. 2. Now this evangelist will, through his Gospel, begin a discourse
which will allow all the characters from the disciples to the centurion to realize that Surely, this
was the Son of God. Mark 15: 39.
One of themes of Mark s gospel is the Good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jesus authority to forgive sins is central to the good news. However, for Mark it is more than
forgiveness. John baptized with water, but the good news of Jesus coming is that he will baptize
with the Holy Spirit which is proclaimed by John the Baptist in verse 8. 7. When Jesus heals the
paralyzed man and then tells him that his sins are forgiven the teachers of the law are incredulous.
This is part of the good news. Jesus has the power to forgive sins however upsetting it is to the
religious establishment.
Mark 1:15 goes up to say to believe in the good news. Belief, faith, is the core of the good news.
Mark 9:23 sums it best: Everything is possible for one who believes . Mark 11: 24; Therefore I
tell you whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours .
Jesus also shows the healing power of faith in Mark 2:5,34 and 10:52 as he heals the paralytic
man and the woman who touched his clothes wishing to be healed. He teaches us a valuable lesson
in that it was their faith that healed them which should be an example for us today.
Another motif which is sewn in the fabric of the good news is what William Loder calls the radical
inclusiveness of Jesus or simply put we are all part of God s kingdom . 8. He enlists fisherman, a
tax collector, and the open sharing of a meal

Reflective Essay On Slam Poetry
You learn something new every day, my father had always said to me. Whether it s a fact or
something you learned about yourself or others, the world has so much to teach you. When I
was in seventh grade, I lacked confidence in myself. I was scared of reading in front of others and
messing up. I felt like a mistake. I was terrible under pressure. I could always feel my heart
pounding inside my chest whenever I had to present a project in front of the class. I was like this
until one of my favorite teachers, Ms.Secko taught me lessons that I will never forgot. She taught
me confidence and character. One day, Ms.Secko assigned the class a project on slam poetry. I didn t
even know what a slam poem was until she explained it to us. A slam poem was a poem that was
memorized and spoken in front of an audience. As soon as I heard those words, my heart
trembled a little. The project was composed of several parts. First, you had to pick a poem that
was more than 16 lines and memorize it. Second, you had to answer 4 questions about why you
chose the poem. Then, you had to make a visual representation on how you interpreted it. Last
but not least, you had to present to poem to your classmates without looking on a reference sheet
of the poem. It was a lot of work. But we had plenty of time to work on it. At first, I doubted
myself. There was no way I could possibly memorize something AND present it in front of the class
all by myself. I felt hopeless. It took me hours to search for a poem online. I looked on almost every
poem site known to man but I just couldn t find one that spoke to me. I asked my dad if he knew
any good poems. He said that I should perform his favorite poem, If by Rudyard Kipling. The poem
was colossal. It looked like it could fill a football stadium because it was so lengthy. I carefully
read over the poem and realized how important its message was. I was really intrigued by the line,
If you could meet with Triumph and Disasters and treat those two imposters just the same. It made
me think a little about what the poem could mean. It took me a while but I figured out its meaning.
It means that you treat your successes and shortcomings the same way. You shouldn t be too

Amateur Genealog
Was it an ominous secret that needed to be uncovered, a truth that needed vindication, or simply a
fabricated tale initiated by an uncle whose reality had been dimmed by passage of time? For years,
the now deceased uncle had insisted the family surname was not correct and was equally as
persistent that the familyname should be another. It didn t help that when immediate family
members were asked, they either didn t want to discuss it, or pleaded having no knowledge about
the subject. After so many years, could the real truth be uncovered?
How do amateur genealogists find connection, or in some cases, disconnection to people? Proving
the uncle wrong may have no impact, but proving him correct could affect several generations. Is it

Our family genealogist had made a common mistake, one that many people make and have to
acknowledge at a later date. With the availability of computer records, he had gone directly to the
computer for the fastest, and what he thought to be the easiest methods of building a family tree.
Our genealogist found out that that is not always true. Amateur genealogists skip over some of the
best methods for gathering evidence. Genealogy is a field in which older is better and leg work is
important. Begin with what you already know and then search in your community. Spread out from
there. Don t be shy about asking questions and keeping meticulous notes on the answers. The
smallest detail may become the clue to unraveling a mystery later on. Genealogists should talk to as
many older family members as possible. Unlike immediate family members, the older generation is
usually harboring an abundance of knowledge concerning past generations. Begin by engaging
them in conversations about their youth, their family, social issues and norms before asking
questions. Always listen attentively for important clues as they may drop valuable information to
you that seems relatively unimportant to them. Use resources like the old photos, Bibles, attic

Saturn Devouring His Son Essay
Saturn Devouring His Son is a 146 by 83 centimeter oil painting by the Spanish artist Francisco de
Goya y Lucientes. The painting was made between the years of 1819 to 1823 as a part of his
series entitled The Black Paintings .
Goya was a romantic painter and printmaker who was born in 1746 in Fuendetodos, Spain, on the
30th of March. His parents were Jose Benito de Goya y Franque and Gracia de Lucientes y
Salvador. Lucientes s artistic style and the mysterious themes of his vivid masterpieces leave
modern artists in awe. The character and personality of Goya can be vividly seen through his
astounding artwork. He is known by many modern artists to be one of the very last master painters
of his time.
His piece, Saturn Devouring His Son , refers to Saturn, a mythological god of Ancient Rome.
Saturn was thought by most to be the god of wealth, agriculture, and dissolution, among other
things. In later developments, Saturn became thought to also have domain over time. He was
thought to be in his reign during the Golden Age, which was a time of great economic success in
Rome, when the people did not have to work. In Roman mythology, Saturn had children and grew
to fear a prophecy that stated one of his sons would grow to be powerful enough to overthrow him,
as he did with his own father, Caelus. Hence, he ate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Is The Berlin Wall Related To The Civil Rights Movement
Linda Dossantos

GLS102: Comparative Politics and Government
Opinion Paper #2
The U.S. Civil Rights Movements and the East German Struggle for Freedom
The Berlin Wall was a physical division that separated West Berlin and East Berlin in Germany
from 1961 to 1989 during the Cold War. The wall was a symbolic boundary that divided Democracy
and Communism physically. The Berlin Walldisplayed the different ideologies between two
government systems, how they worked and what the people thought about them. On November 9th
1989, the Berlin Wall finally came down and transformed from a symbol of Cold War communist
oppression to an icon of freedom and revolution. It was a very important event in history that

Those who lived Eastern Berlin not only had to face communist oppression but the wall s
practical significance was that it stopped them from leaving their homes and seeking a better life
in the West. Similar to the events that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Civil Rights
Movement that occurred mostly down south in the United States, also show people coming
together to fight for a common goal and stop oppression. The black American Civil Rights
Movement embraces social movements whose goals were to end racial segregation and
discrimination against black Americans. Similar to the fall of the Berlin wall, the civil rights
movement is one of the defining events in history providing an example of people fighting for the
ideals of justice, equality and freedom. The Civil Rights Movement was very important to the
history of the United States as it established that discrimination was unjust and would no longer be
accepted in the country, while setting an example for oppressed people everywhere in the world.
The Berlin wall defined a loss of human rights and people came together to bring the wall down,
just like the civil rights movement brought black American together to walk for

Aztec Culture And The Aztec Civilization
Aztec culture flourished in the highlands of central Mexico between the twelfth and sixteenth
centuries, AD. As the last in a series of complex urban civilizations in Mesoamerica, the Aztecs
adopted many traits and institutions from their predecessors such as the Maya and Teotihuacan.
The Aztecs also devised many innovations, particularly in the realms of economics and politics.
Azteccivilization was destroyed at its height by the invasion of Spanish conquerors under
Hernando CortГ©s in 1519. The Aztecs, like many other Mesoamerican cultures, used a limited
form of writing that consisted of pictorial representations painted on bark paper and animal
hides. (Diego 8). The Aztecs were a very religious group, many of their traditions and recorded
history has been related to the religion of the Aztec civilization. Even after the Aztec culture was
dominated by the Spaniards, religion was still a big part of Mesoamerican culture. Regardless of
what happened to the Aztecs, religion never strayed from them even if their beliefs changed. The
Aztec empire stretched throughout large portions of what is now Mexico and was powerful native
empires that was created during its time period, the Aztecs though were immigrants of this area.
According to their pictorial histories the Aztec peoples claimed to have migrated to central Mexico
from a place in the north called Aztlan (Diego 10). The Aztec immigrants arrived in central Mexico

Brick Walls In My Life
During his lecture, Randy said that throughout your life you will encounter brick walls. These
walls are meant to slow you down, but they are not there to stop your goals. The walls actually
push you to work harder in life to achieve those goals. Throughout life one will encounter failures
every wear they turn. Whether it is being fired from your job or failing a test. You will not go
through your life without encountering failure. In fact it is a good thing to experience failure once
in a while. It keeps us humble about life and it shows that not everything is given to us.
Throughout my life I have experienced my fair share of brickwalls. Although I was able to
overcome most of them, I still couldn t overcome one. A few brick walls that I have faced over the
course of my life include overcoming a death of a close friend and family. However there was one
brick wallthat took me a while to overcome. About two years ago, during a baseballgame at home, I
suffered a stage three hyperextension of my right knee while batting. The pain was equivalent
to having my knee dislocated. I had to exit the game and I feared that my baseball season may be

doctor said there was possibility that I would not play baseball the remainder of that season. Over
the next couple of weeks, I had to undergo physical pain everyday while trying to walk around

Dr Malcolm Clemens Young Summary
Why do you believe that the Reverend Dr. Malcolm Clemens Young is addressing Christians in his
discussion about wealth inequality?
Reverend Young addresses Christians about wealth inequality as he states that Jesus cared for the
poor and consequently, followers of the faith have an obligation to do the same.
What assumptions is he making about religious people?
Dr. Young assumes that religious individuals, and more specifically Chrisitans, are seperate entities
from the top 5% of wage earners. Moreover, the author implies that these extremely wealthy
individuals are materialistic and devoid of the morals and values that are inherent in the less
fortunate. Young states that it is the working poor (who)... contribute a great deal more to society
than the highly paid people who merely move money around.
Reverend Young uses Mitt Romney as an example of excessive riches and details his 7 houses.
However, the author fails to note that Mr. Romney is in fact, a devout Mormom who donates
millions to his church and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

individuals with a devout sense of piety as evidenced by the Mennonites and Quakers ( The
Protestant Ethics and the Spirit of Capitalism 11).
Do you think folks who are religious care more or less about income equality? Why or why not?
I believe that when one has a strong set of ethical beliefs, they will care more about society s
issues, including income inequality. However, I do not believe the religious followers always
possess these moral beliefs nor do those who fail to follow an organized religion lack this ethical
framework. It is truly up to the individual.
What factors in a given religion may impact if a person cares about wealth inequality or

results of insert moulding is a single piece with the insert encapsulated by the plastic. The insert
can be made of metal or another plastic, and this was initially developed to place threading inserts
in molded parts and to encapsulate the wire plug connection on electrical cords. Insert Moulding is
also used quite extensively in the manufacture of medical devices, the typical application of insert
moulding include insert moulded need hubs, and bifurcations, as well as encapsulated electrical
components and threaded fasteners. The accuracies of insert placement and cavity features can be

had captured from the other war. New France was not among them, it remained a British colony.
The French Empire in this part of North America was at an end. The colony of New France did
not last. It officially ended with the Treaty of Paris, in 1763. Britain ended up getting Louisbourg
and New France did not want to sign the treaty of Paris because they gave up everything. In 1791
when the Loyalists originally from Britain came to Quebec, they quickly took up their free land and

The Effect Of Recasts And Prompts On Francophone Learners
Regarding output, Corrective Feedback (CF) caters chance for learners to improve their
interlanguage when interlocutors provide correct input (recast) or attempt eliciting the correct
output from learners (prompt). Ammar and Spada (2006) conducted research to compare the
effectiveness of recasts and prompts on Francophone learners of English at different levels. The
study focused on the third person possessive determiners (his and her) which are problematic to
French native speakers. After being instructed the rule and through some practices, learners would
be given either recasts or prompts to errors regarding his and her, or no CF in the control group.
Participants were assessed three times: pre test, immediate post test and delayed post test. The
researchers discovered that instruction and exposure plus CF are more effective than those without
CF. No technique is better than the other since prompts are more effective than recasts for lower
proficiency students while high proficiency students benefit from both equally. Although the study
only focused on the binary forms (either his or her), it suggested that prompts be applied more to
improve lower level learners performance. Interaction is a two way communication under the
sociocultural theory promoting consciousness. From Swain and Lapkin s (1998) study of two

The Cause Of The Dancing Plague Of 1518
The Dancing Plague of 1518 was an occurrence of unknown origin. Although still unsolved, there
have been theories published on the subject. The theories that have been brought to light are mass
hysteria caused by St. Vitus, Ergotism, Tarantism, and an unknown type of heretical cult. None of
these ideas are able to truly explain the abrupt Dancing Plague that occurred in Strasbourg. This is
not the first time this type of event has occurred. Dancing epidemics have also occurred in other
areas of Europe in earlier centuries, but without the same deadly outcome as the 1518 plague. The
most popular theory on the cause of 1518 s Dancing Plague is the mass hysteriatheory. John
Waller, a firm supporter of this theory, was able to give very convincing evidence. Although the
mass hysteria has more creditable evidence, it is still not capable of being the exact cause for the
Dancing Plague. The Dancing Plague may be thought of as a faux tale, but there are multiple
records to prove that this occurrence is nowhere near a tale passed on through centuries. The
Dancing Plague was and still is one of the most mysterious events in the 16th century. The
Dancing Plague occurred in Strasbourg in July, 1518. It all began with a woman named Frau
Troffea, who began dancing uncontrollably in the middle of the streets. She did this night and day
on her own without stopping for nearly a week. The disease began to spread to three dozen other
victims after a week of Frau Troffea s solo dancing. By

Alan Turing s Imitation Game
Alan Turing s Imitation Game In Alan Turing s Computing Machinery, and Intelligence Turing
proposes a test to distinguish whether a machine is intelligent or not in an unconventional way. His
test is an alternative to the questions Can machines think? and offers an alternative where it is not
possible to get misdirected by ambiguous terms. Turing argues that it is a sufficient test in the way
that all machines that pass the test are intelligent, but not all intelligent machines will pass the test.
In this essay I will address one particular objection, The Argument from Consciousness , namely
how I do not feel that this argument in successful in it s attempt to undermine Turin s hypothesis.
Many people have objections to Turing s test, objections that he counters in the latter part of his
paper. In this particular objection Professor Jefferson brings up the idea that a machine cannot be
deemed intelligent because it is unable to feel. A machine cannot compose art from thoughts or
feelings, nor can a machine feel pleasure, guilt, or grief. Jefferson claims that until a machine is
able to do these things, it cannot be considered as intelligent as the human brain. He claims that

those against the solipsist viewpoint, because a machine would be able to do the same things a
human could, things we associate with feelings and would discredit the idea what we can t know

Dropout Age Of 18
Students that drop out of school before the age of 18 have a higher likelihood of ending up in jail

This is one of the many reason why students should be required to stay in school until the age of 18.

play, and that is supported with the fact that he has a son who is in college in France. His other
child is Ophelia, who just so happens to be courting with none other than Prince Hamlet. To
Polonius, both of his children are each in a situation that requires tact and wit. Even though they
both live separate lives from their father, Polonius still... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contrary to Laertes s, his lecture with her is about her relationship with Prince Hamlet, and believes
his vows, for they are brokers (1.3.136). He means by this that Hamlet is just a pimp that is
leading her to sinful acts. Polonius does not believe that he is being true when he says he loves
Ophelia, and has a right not to. After all, he is the Prince, and royalty usually marry royalty. He
also believes that Hamlet is just using her, and that she should Tender yourself [Ophelia] more
clearly, / Or (not to crack the wind of the poor phrase, / Running it thus) you ll tender me a fool
(1.3.117 118). This statement was said in the context that Hamlet is showing his tenders of
affection to Ophelia, tenders meaning not legal tender. The first part of this charge tells Ophelia
that she should be careful with who she accepts love from. This is a loving statement from father
to daughter, and receives no reward when in the shadow of the last part of this statement, which
has three meanings. The second half of this charge mostly means that she will either make
herself look like a fool, or make Polonius look like a fool. This meaning shows Polonius s true
character, that he is concerned with himself most of all. Considering his reputation, this claim is
understood, yet still looked down upon by most readers. The other, and more serious, meaning
of Polonius s comment is that Ophelia will give Polonius a grandchild. This is drawn from the
alternate meaning of fool, which is a term of endearment toward babies. If Ophelia had a child
with the Prince, this would also make Polonius look bad because she would have done it out of
wedlock, and thus reveals his character even more. He is very self centered, and this is supported
by his behavior around the

Twelve Who Ruled Essay
Twelve Who Ruled Book Review
The year of terror is one of the most complex and misunderstood periods in the French Revolution.
Palmer, in his book, Twelve Who Ruled, however, takes this period and skillfully turns it into a
written masterpiece. The book is narrated from the point of view of someone with an omniscient
knowledge of the subject matter, who is reflecting back on the period from the outside.
The book tells the story of a brief moment in history when twelve men (Robespierre, Barere, Saint
Just, Couthon, Lindet, Carnot, Saint Andre, Prieur, Varenne, Herbois, Scholles, and Duvernois)
ruled France; even though they were technically under the control of the Convention. ... Show more

This can be seen when Palmer compares the other member to Robespierre. After the personal
history of each of the twelve men, Palmer moves right in and starts discussing how and why the
Committee of Public Safety was formed, and how it came to power. After this, he maneuvers
circumspectly into how the committee used this power to purge the nation of quot;counter
revolutionaries, quot; who needed but offend the sensitive ears of Robespierre to be executed. He
then moves along chronologically to the height of the Committee s power and eventually describes
the decline and eventual demise of the reign of terror. This is signified by the execution of
Robespierre, who was designated as the instigator of the terror. It is in his death that the terror
culminated, and along with it, this book.
This book is considerably effective as a narrative biography of the quot;Twelve Who Ruled. quot;
Through his eloquent use of detail and his elegant ability to paint a superb picture which
incorporates both the lives and actions of the men in power and the essence and accomplishments
of the Committee of Public Safety as a whole he tells the story of the Reign of Terror. It is his
intermixing of the two, along with his representation of the day that makes this book so
quot;Thoroughly sound, eminently readable, quot; and representative of great narrative writing.
Throughout this book,

Character Analysis Of Eleanor Catton s The Luminaries
In 1866, many people had dreams to make fortunes from the gold rushes around the world. The
main character in The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton follows this same dream. The story follows
Walter Moody on his adventure at a place called Hokitika with a common dream; to become a rich
gold miner. Upon his arrival, he is immediately introduced to an investigation of a mysterious
crime. With this knowledge, Moody has to follow the speculated ideas of the town members to try
to piece together and put apart the dreamand the reality. Throughout the novel, Moody becomes
more trusting and gets an ambition to help the people. Walter Moody advances in the community of
Hokitika through accepting the reality making him more trusting and ambitious with his goals of
helping the town while letting go of the dream he previously held.
During the beginning of the novel, Walter Moody has a dream to make a fortune through digging
gold out of the mines in the town Hokitika. Upon his arrival he finds himself in the middle of a
group of people trying to piece together the incident that had occurred on the night of the 14th of
January. Moody does not trust this room of people. This is seen as he holds simple information
from them, like he did with a man named Balfour who was trying to find out what issues he was
facing. He would hide information constantly by saying things like The particulars are delicate
(Catton 24). Moody, who is still skeptical of the people, keeps to himself throughout

  • 2. Causes Of European Exploration Europe s Age of Exploration and Discovery began around 1453 when the Ottoman Turks conquered Constantinople, which resulted in the fall of the Byzantine Empire. This conquest cut off most European access to this area, severely limiting trade with the Middle East, especially China and India. Furthermore, Venice and the Ottoman Empireestablished a monopoly over trade, which irritated Europeand sparked their desire to reconnect with the East and restore direct trade relations with Asia. Europe s desire to discover alternate trade routes in order to participate in Asian silk and spice trades was ultimately a primary cause for European exploration and conquest during the 15th and 16th centuries. Thus, a primary cause of European exploration in the 15th and 16th centuries was Europe s desire to find new routes to Asia in order to participate in trade with the Middle East. A secondary cause of European exploration during the 15th and 16th century was the desire to spread and expand Christianity. In the early 1400s, Christianity was the only religion in Europe, and European rulers desired to make it the global religion by endeavoring to convert the worldly population to Christianity. This desire motivated religious Europeans to search and explore new lands for new people to convert. When the Ottoman Turks had conquered Constantinople in 1453, the territory that was previously the Christian Byzantine Empire had become Muslim. Therefore, European Christians, mainly Catholics, wanted to cease the expansion of Islam and convert non Christians around the world to the faith, leading to the exploration of new lands. Also during the 15th century, many Christian missionaries called Jesuits, such as Francis Xavier, focused on missionary work in order to gain new followers. The Jesuits dedication to missionary work resulted in them travelling to and exploring unknown areas in order to find new people to convert to Christianity. Thus, the ... How Does Petruchio Dehumanize Women Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, any outsider would be able to attest that Katherine and Petruchio don t have a standard relationship for the entirety of the play, and you must look at exaggerations used and view the play as a whole. When Gremio and Petruchio use more deeming imagery, Shakespeare is criticizing the dehumanization of women going on at the time. Petruchio on several different times makes reference to Katherine being a haggard, a type of untrainable falcon, in terms of them both being difficult to train, thus dehumanizing Katherine. This viewpoint shows the ridiculousness of having women being subordinate to men. Shakespeare also criticizes how people hide behind religion in order to justifying their cruel treatment in the... Shakespeare continues criticizing the role of women with demonstrating Baptista and how he is neglectful of Katherine, showing poor treatment will lead to the shrew behavior, in comparison to Bianca who is praised for everything, therefore is more desirable with a seemingly hire position in society. The position of women is based on their attractiveness as a spouse to men. There is no mother figure in the book so Katherine doesn t have a female role model to look up to, so Shakespeare is alluding to the importance women have in society in terms of creating more intelligent creatures. The Struggle For Lgbt Rights The Struggle for LGBT+ Rights in America Brought together by various organizations, and united by shared persecution, the gay community came together and pushed for their rights, and were able to obtain them through science and litigation. The outset of the gay rights movement can be traced back to World War I. The World War brought America out of its isolationism and exposed Americans to life outside America. For the first time Americans saw firsthand the way countries like, England, France, Germany, and others treated their citizens. • 6. Why Do Americans Value Personal Control 1. What do you agree with? Americans value personal control over the environment, time and its control, equality, individuals and privacy, self help control, equality, directness, and material possessions. Like in the example of moon landings, Americans seem to try to do things never accomplished before, not taking things for granted. This is evidenced in the Civil Rights Movement, where people fought for their rights despite harsh retaliation. The American valueof time and its control can be noticed throughout all businesses and schools. Compared to many countries around the world, the classroom is not a very competitive atmosphere; it is in fact somewhat relaxed. In China, for example, class rank is often public, and many students are driven by parents to study more and go to better colleges than their peers. In America, students seem to care more about social lives, and many will choose colleges that they think they will be happy at. This also shows that Americans do not strongly value action/work orientation and future orientation, as most students would often rather relax and enjoy their lives, rather than prepare ardently for their futures. Americans are not very informal and casual, with strict social rules that are not always evident in other countries. For example, to walk the streets barefoot would be odd and possibly mocked here, whereas people in poorer countries may do it on a day to day basis. Furthermore, dinner table rules are rather strict compared to other places. In China, meals seem louder and more casual than in America. While the Pagans view the dragon as a fire breathing, greedy creature keeping treasure in its lair, the Christians view it as the devil making the setting of hell. The equivalent of Beowulf in the Christian faith would be Jesus Christ. He came into the world (lair) and freed us from sins (hell). Pagans view Beowulf as having superhuman powers that let him overcome any trial he may face. For example of Beowulf s strength, he lifted the giant s magical sword when nobody else could. His strength is matched by Christian faith with the story of Jesus was resurrected and came out from the tomb he was buried in. Beowulf fought for peace in the land of Geatland and Danes. Christ made peace with everyone. They both share qualities of the desire for peace. The biggest comparison between Beowulf and Jesus Christ is when they both died to save other people. Picking colors that match look better or if you were going to a party or celebration, wearing a dress with 1 color is the best decision to go with. Lengths also matter, never wear anything to short or to long for your comfort. Or if the piece of clothingis too tight or too loose. Patterns are the most important when picking outfits, a lot like colorthe pattern(s) should match or at least compliment each other. Just like an outfit can look ugly or messy, so can an empire. One of the 3 invaders from asia, were the Huns. The Huns were described as ugly, ignorant, savage, wild animals, slaughter s and refuges. This contributed to why Rome fell because that 5 different foreign invaders attacked Rome from all angles. While the first 2 reasons were important, the primary reason for the fall of Rome was because of natural disasters. In Rome of 366 C.E. an earthquake hit Rome and killed 250,000 1 million citizens and not only that, the earthquake also caused a flood that killed 50,000 more people. A total of 300,000 1,050,000 citizens/Romans killed by 1 earthquake. Therefore, this is the most important reason for the fall of Rome. It is true that there are other great reasons why Rome fell. For example, legal injustice which is a quality relating to unfairness or undeserved outcomes. reference to a particular event or situation, or to a larger status quo. In Western philosophy and jurisprudence, injustice is very commonly but not always defined as either the absence or the opposite of justice. • 12. Carbon Fiber Essay INTRODUCTION Background Aerospace design applications rely heavily on weight reduction, structural integrity and optimize performance. Engineers and designers have adopted carbon fiber composite due to its high modulus reinforcement fibers embedded in an epoxy matrix. Also called graphite fiber or carbon graphite, carbon fiber consists of very thin strands of the element carbon. Each fiber is 5 10 microns in diameter as shown on Figure 1, one micron (um) is 0.000039 inches. Carbon fiber composite material is a special candidate for aerospace applications because of its high tensile strength, corrosion and fire resistant properties, which provides functional integrity by design, results in high strength and light weight construction that could be formed into practically any shape or form. These fibers are constructed with multiple laminate which are bonded together with a matrix or resin system. When combined with resin and wound or molded to form composite materials, a high strength to weight ratio is achieved. Figure 1. A slam poem was a poem that was memorized and spoken in front of an audience. As soon as I heard those words, my heart trembled a little. The project was composed of several parts. First, you had to pick a poem that was more than 16 lines and memorize it. Second, you had to answer 4 questions about why you chose the poem. Then, you had to make a visual representation on how you interpreted it. Last but not least, you had to present to poem to your classmates without looking on a reference sheet of the poem. It was a lot of work. But we had plenty of time to work on it. At first, I doubted myself. There was no way I could possibly memorize something AND present it in front of the class all by myself. The Berlin Walldisplayed the different ideologies between two government systems, how they worked and what the people thought about them. On November 9th 1989, the Berlin Wall finally came down and transformed from a symbol of Cold War communist oppression to an icon of freedom and revolution. • 23. Aztec Culture And The Aztec Civilization Aztec culture flourished in the highlands of central Mexico between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries, AD. As the last in a series of complex urban civilizations in Mesoamerica, the Aztecs adopted many traits and institutions from their predecessors such as the Maya and Teotihuacan. The Aztecs also devised many innovations, particularly in the realms of economics and politics. Azteccivilization was destroyed at its height by the invasion of Spanish conquerors under Hernando CortГ©s in 1519. The Aztecs, like many other Mesoamerican cultures, used a limited form of writing that consisted of pictorial representations painted on bark paper and animal hides. (Diego 8). The Aztecs were a very religious group, many of their traditions and recorded history has been related to the religion of the Aztec civilization. Even after the Aztec culture was dominated by the Spaniards, religion was still a big part of Mesoamerican culture. Regardless of what happened to the Aztecs, religion never strayed from them even if their beliefs changed. The Aztec empire stretched throughout large portions of what is now Mexico and was powerful native empires that was created during its time period, the Aztecs though were immigrants of this area. The Effect Of Recasts And Prompts On Francophone Learners Regarding output, Corrective Feedback (CF) caters chance for learners to improve their interlanguage when interlocutors provide correct input (recast) or attempt eliciting the correct output from learners (prompt). Ammar and Spada (2006) conducted research to compare the effectiveness of recasts and prompts on Francophone learners of English at different levels. The study focused on the third person possessive determiners (his and her) which are problematic to French native speakers. After being instructed the rule and through some practices, learners would be given either recasts or prompts to errors regarding his and her, or no CF in the control group. Participants were assessed three times: pre test, immediate post test and delayed post test. The researchers discovered that instruction and exposure plus CF are more effective than those without CF. No technique is better than the other since prompts are more effective than recasts for lower proficiency students while high proficiency students benefit from both equally. Although the study only focused on the binary forms (either his or her), it suggested that prompts be applied more to improve lower level learners performance. • 33. The Cause Of The Dancing Plague Of 1518 The Dancing Plague of 1518 was an occurrence of unknown origin. Although still unsolved, there have been theories published on the subject. The theories that have been brought to light are mass hysteria caused by St. Vitus, Ergotism, Tarantism, and an unknown type of heretical cult. None of these ideas are able to truly explain the abrupt Dancing Plague that occurred in Strasbourg. This is not the first time this type of event has occurred. Dancing epidemics have also occurred in other areas of Europe in earlier centuries, but without the same deadly outcome as the 1518 plague. The most popular theory on the cause of 1518 s Dancing Plague is the mass hysteriatheory. John Waller, a firm supporter of this theory, was able to give very convincing evidence. Although the mass hysteria has more creditable evidence, it is still not capable of being the exact cause for the Dancing Plague. The Dancing Plague may be thought of as a faux tale, but there are multiple records to prove that this occurrence is nowhere near a tale passed on through centuries. The Dancing Plague was and still is one of the most mysterious events in the 16th century. The Dancing Plague occurred in Strasbourg in July, 1518. It all began with a woman named Frau Troffea, who began dancing uncontrollably in the middle of the streets. She did this night and day on her own without stopping for nearly a week. Alan Turing s Imitation Game Alan Turing s Imitation Game In Alan Turing s Computing Machinery, and Intelligence Turing proposes a test to distinguish whether a machine is intelligent or not in an unconventional way. His test is an alternative to the questions Can machines think? and offers an alternative where it is not possible to get misdirected by ambiguous terms. Turing argues that it is a sufficient test in the way that all machines that pass the test are intelligent, but not all intelligent machines will pass the test. In this essay I will address one particular objection, The Argument from Consciousness , namely how I do not feel that this argument in successful in it s attempt to undermine Turin s hypothesis. Many people have objections to Turing s test, objections that he counters in the latter part of his paper. In this particular objection Professor Jefferson brings up the idea that a machine cannot be deemed intelligent because it is unable to feel. This statement was said in the context that Hamlet is showing his tenders of affection to Ophelia, tenders meaning not legal tender. The first part of this charge tells Ophelia that she should be careful with who she accepts love from. This is a loving statement from father to daughter, and receives no reward when in the shadow of the last part of this statement, which has three meanings. The other, and more serious, meaning of Polonius s comment is that Ophelia will give Polonius a grandchild. This is drawn from the alternate meaning of fool, which is a term of endearment toward babies. The book tells the story of a brief moment in history when twelve men (Robespierre, Barere, Saint Just, Couthon, Lindet, Carnot, Saint Andre, Prieur, Varenne, Herbois, Scholles, and Duvernois) ruled France; even though they were technically under the control of the Convention. ...
