Dietary Guidelines
The Dietary Guidelines have become a very argumentative field. While most of it s research is coming
up controversial or unacceptable many physicians have found what they believe would be a better fit
for the guidelines. While the obesity and heart diseases increase the fight for the truth of what is the
best diet for compression of morbidity. These articles display the common problems that people have
been recognizing about our dietary guidelines.
The first article The scientific reporting guiding the US dietary guidelines: is it scientific by Nina
Teicholz has a lot to say about where our information for the US dietary guidelines comes from. She
exemplifies that It did not use NEL reviews for more than 70% of the topics... (Teicholz 1) The best
source of Nutritional information is form the Nutrition Evidence Library since it uses standardized
processing and evaluates its studies. With some of the best research experiments on saturated fats and
low fat high fruit diet being omitted or ignored, it concludes that most of their assumptions are not
coming from the best available sources. Since it is important to note that in a field where public
research dollars are scarce, nearly all nutrition scientists accept funding from industry. (Teicholz 4)

The King s Speech Analytical Essay
God Save The King s Speech Academy award winning film, The King s Speech, is a motivational
movie where voice and courage become a matter of life and death. Prince Albert, later known as King
George VI (Colin Firth), stammers excessively and uncontrollably through his inaugural speech
closing the 1925 British Empire Exhibition due to a speech impediment. After finishing such a
disappointing speech, Prince Albert decides to give up on himself and accept his fate as a stammering
heir to the throne. However, his wife, Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter), enlists him to see an Aussie
speech therapist that goes by the name of Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) whose Antipodean methods
are known to be unorthodox and controversial, ( The King s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Bertie, is seen as a soon to be agonizing heir to the throne because he lacks communication skills. The
only thing stopping Prince Albert is himself. In the movie he states: If I m King, where s my power?
Can I form a government? Can I levy a tax, declare a war? No! And yet I am the seat of all authority.
Why? Because the nation believes that when I speak, I speak for them. But I can t speak ( The King s
Speech (2010) ). Prince Albert was a troubled child who was repressed of using his left hand,
possessed knock knees, had an abusive nanny and a death of a brother at an early age. As time passed,
Prince Albert never grew out of his comfort zone and continued to speak poorly. Because Prince
Albert speaks of himself that way, we can assume that communication is essential in leading a nation
and is a foundation for personal life, relationships, professional success and civic life. By saying that a
nation believes when he speaks, one can generally expect a leader for any reason or cause to possess
great speaking skills in order to be prosperous. The old phrase, actions speak louder than words had
never been so true such as in the case of Prince Albert. The Duke of York lacks nonverbal behavior
greatly in the sense that he has no self esteem therefore, making him a statue when he speaks. I have

Voodoo Priests Essay
Healthcare professionals have been trying to establish western healthcare in Haiti due to the increasing
number of Haitians being infected by AIDS. However, Haitians choose to see voodoo priests instead
of western medical doctors because religion is very important to them and voodoo priests provide the
spiritual healing they seek. The consequence of western doctors not understanding the importance of
voodoo religion in the treatment process is the biggest deterrent to Haitians accepting western
healthcare. Instead of trying to make Haitians change their beliefs, healthcare professionals should
work with voodoo priests to increase AIDS awareness. Undoubtedly, their role as a trusted spiritual
advisor and healer would be used to influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, doctors can learn how to establish a trustful relationship with Haitians by observing
healing ceremonies preformed by Voodoo priests. Through this learning process, western doctors will
begin to understand the importance of non western methods for the treatment of Haitian s illnesses.
According to McCabe (2007), the acknowledgement and acceptance of non western interpretations
and techniques is paramount to the process of treating ethnic minority clients. Since traditional healers
are acknowledged in their community as being a trusted spiritual healer it is critical for healthcare
practitioners to understand the role of the traditional healers in counseling, health promotion and
education.
Given that between 65% 80% of the worlds human population is dependent on traditional and
alternative medicine as their primary healthcare, it becomes necessary that these issues be part of the
discourse on health and healing in the 21 century . (World Health Organization,
2008)
Combining western and voodoo approaches to health and well being will meet the cultural, spiritual
and physical needs of Haitians. It will increase their ability to establish a trusting doctor patient
relationship, and so Haitians will become more open to accepting western healthcare treatment for
AIDS. A successful collaboration between voodoo priests and western doctors will assist in the
progress of obtaining referral s in both directions; this

this you need to provide the animal with. Consequently, you should think carefully about all factors
that will affect your ability to care for a dog and whether a dog is suitable for you. Would you be able

Meaning of Everlast s Song What It s Like
Sydney Sanders
English 305
Professor Michael Harrold
1 February 2011
Song Argument Essay What it s Like by Everlast is a song that tells not one but three different stories.
It touches on homelessness, abortion and drug violence. Three very relevant topics, despite its 1998
release date. The song cautions those who are quick to judge and reminds us all, to take second look.
The song also argues that the listener may one day find themselves in a similar situation and they may
one day be the homeless person, the girl walking into the clinic or the family member of a drug dealer.
Everlast does something very effective when making any argument; he puts a face to the issue he is
discussing.
The argument in this song is maybe not as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe this makes the songs argument much stronger, and much more human which is
extraordinarily important when one is arguing about human issues. Everlast is not a band with several
members; it s actually the solo project of Erik Schrody who was a former member of an Irish Hip Hop
group called House of Pain. The group ended in 1996. What It s Like was Schrody s first single after
his exit from the group and became his most well known. The song was released as a single first and
then later on an album titled Whitey Ford Sings the Blues . The song was released after Schrody quit
drinking and found religion. A listener knowing this might realize why he was so reflective and
cautioning those who felt they could never be one of those people . He knew exactly how the
characters he created felt.
The style of the song is very crucial in how it comes across to the listener. It is a simple song with a
mellow sound and a focus on the lyrics. The song consists of Everlast s deep, dark voice and use of
often graphic words. This song is consistent with the artist s usual style and combines elements of hip
hop and blues. The sound of the acoustic guitar and the steady beat of the drum highlight the story
being told instead of drowning it out, like many songs do. The edgy style of the song lends itself to the
message being sent.
Great songs are ones that are never outdated, they are songs that generations later, remain relevant and

Cabaret Movie Comparison
After watching both of the films for this week I definitely noticed a difference in the film narratives
due to musical numbers and how they were integrated. While watching 42nd Street, the musical
numbers were quite confusing to me. I struggled to understand how they provided context to the film.
As I did not see how they fit within the storyline of the films. I also believe the disconnection between
the numbers and the film made me question, the films event s and I thought I misunderstood certain
moments in the film because the musical numbers did not make sense. I also did not enjoy the fact that
during the numbers themselves there was dialogue going on and the focus shifted during the number. I
think this lessened the impact of the number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was as if the focus was the music numbers opposed to the films, which in my opinion is the best part
of a musical. I enjoyed watching the numbers and seeing the elaborate costumes and details that were
put into them. Furthermore, in Cabaret, one could tell that the music numbers really fit in with the film
and provided more insight into what was going on. A good example of this was the during the musical
number Maybe This Time sung by Sally which demonstrated her relationship with Brian and how it
has evolved. Their relationship turned into more than a friendship and as the number goes on Sally
sings of the hope she has of this relationship being the real deal and withstanding the test of
time.Through this musical number the audience is able to understood how Sally is feeling without the
use of any actual dialogue. I do believe there is some relation between the context of integration/non
integration and the contexts in which the films were made. 42nd Street was created during the Great
Depression and it seems as if there was some caution in terms of the film was made. It seems as if the
events of the film were more so on the safe side and no feathers were

John Searle s Chinese Room Argument A Decisive Objection...
Is John Searle s Chinese room argument a decisive objection to functionalism? Why or why not?
Introduction Development within artificial intelligence (AI) has produced machines or computers that
can imitate human like understanding and intelligence. Programs have been produced to allow AI a
form of seemingly natural interaction. Due to such movement in technology can we use the notion of
functionalism to suggest that these AI can understand, think and be intelligent? This essay will
highlight that despite further development within computers, that some suggest have surpassed the
intelligence of many humans, by using John Searle s argument, conclude the impossibility for
computers to understand language or possess the ability to think. What is functionalism?
Functionalism is the theory that focuses on the functional role. What is key to the functionalist is the
function, or the role the function plays in cognitive systems. Functionalists take the identity of a
mental state to be classified by its causal relations to sensory stimulations, other mental states, and
behavior. For instance, fully function definition. The heart is for pumping blood around the body. A
heart is fully functional because it claims any device that does this task counts as a heart. For example,
a machine in a hospital used during a heart bypass operation will ... Show more content on

Turing founded a test to distinguish whether something can think. This is known as the Turing Test.
The test stated that if a human engages in a discussion with a human and the target machine, and the
judge cannot distinguish them, then the target machine can think and we should grant that it is
intelligent. In the late 1970 s computers were said to have the ability to understand some natural
language. Therefore according to functionalism, this would suggest that the AI possessed intelligence
and understanding of language. However, John Searle refutes this and functionalism as a

The Ideal Parent: Brightening a Childs Future Parenting is a big part of every ones lives; it makes up
who you are as a person and in many cases projects who you will be in the future. Some adults have
trouble manipulating their children and teaching them what is right from wrong, while others have a
much easier time doing so. In my opinion there is no such thing as the perfect parent , both the mother
and the father have their flaws, but what matters is that the parent is always there for personal support.
To me a good parent is someone who is always there to support there children in both good and bad
terms, and a responsible adult that can supply for their kids necessities, ... Show more content on

The father is un employed and the mother is making the same amount as her teenage daughter. This
shows a lack of responsibility coming from both parents because at this age the parents should be
concerned about the daughter going to school and both parents should have a job accounted for. The
irresponsibility s of the parents can affect a child from a young age, not only does it complicates the
life of the kid, but the parents do a poor job of teaching a child the values of being responsible. One
parent shows responsibilities for their kids while the other parent shows no remorse for her daughter.
Finally, being a leader and a hard worker not only in your children s lives but also in society is what
makes a huge difference between a great parent and a mediocre parent. Showing a child the values of
leadership and hard work can make a kids future that much better. A parent that holds these two
characteristics and is able to put them to use in society will not only be a great example for their kids,
but a superb example of a great parent. In the poem Those Winter Sundays , Hayden illustrates the
hard work and leadership this father puts in for the family to have a nice comfortable living. Sundays
too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold, then with cracked hands that
ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him. (1 5)

Nelson Mandela s Leadership Qualities
Introduction
Nelson Mandela (Mandela) is a figurehead for the equality of people not only in South Africa, but also
around the globe. Mandela has played many important roles throughout his life and although initially
leading by being a pacifist, he has changed roles over time to lead as a revolutionary, a prisoner and a
president. Many prominent leaders throughout time have established routes in time by effectively
changing perceptions and Mandela is one of these leaders.
This paper examines the journey in which Mandela embarked and will identify Mandela s leadership
qualities and styles throughout his journey to becoming President of South Africa. Although Mandela
exhibits many different leadership qualities, one can make a statement that Mandela is a
transformative leader, in that he exhibits various characteristics of six distinct leadership perspectives.
Mandela can be seen as any particular type of these six leadership perspectives, but this paper will
analyze the extent of these leadership qualities and how they have impacted the life of Mandela and
the world.
For the purpose of this paper, the distinct variance of whether Mandela was a freedom fighter or a
terrorist will not be examined, but may make for an interesting distinction. This paper will ultimately
determine Mandela s leadership qualities and styles to conclude whether Mandela can be seen as a
prominent and effective leader.

The document, Harriet Jacobs Deplores Her Risks in Being a Female Slave, 1861, describes how
female slaves during her time period felt towards slavery and how it was like to grow up as a slave.
According to Harriet Jacobs document, she started off as an innocent child, unaware of what happens
around her and how harsh slavery actually can be. This changes as she grows up and her life becomes
more and more miserable due to her status as a slave. By the time Jacobs reaches fifteen and starts to

It Follows Film Analysis
The films, American Movie and It Follows, offers different aesthetics, because the two movies are
implementing a different message and want to be perceived differently to the viewers. American
Movie displays aesthetics of realism, such as direct addresses to the camera, on camera interviews,
real mise en scene, and real people. It Follows is a more typical film that displays aesthetics of
formalism such as expressive sound, expressive cinematography, expressive mise en scene, and
performance capture. These two films are on completely different ends of the film spectrum, since one
is fictional horror film and the other is a non fiction documentary, so they differ in the aesthetics they
use. The most obvious realism aesthetic is the direct address to the camera. The ... Show more content

Most horror films do create this to engage the audience and suggest feelings about what is happening
within the scene. Within the film they use expressive sounds and tones to create a feeling of horror or
suspense. When It is transferred to Annie the guy she slept with drops her off in front of her house. He
then speeds away in his car and the viewer hears the screeching of tires as he peels out. The peeling
out noise continues and his car leaves the screen, but a creepier and screeching noise is implemented
in the film to create a feeling of uneasiness. The purpose of this noise is to express a feeling of
discomfort to the viewers as Annie crawls her way back to her porch. Obviously, this noise was
created artificially and was edited in after the filming of the scene. The film makers implemented and
blended the sound of the car tires and the screeching noise to make a continuous sound. This aesthetic
would be seen within film of realism, since making artificial sounds within the film would take away
from a film such as American Movie. American Movie only has real sounds that do not encourage

Code Talkers Research Paper
Indian code talkers are a group of bilingual Navajo speakers that were used to transfer messages
during World War II. The Marine Corps recruited many of these Code Talkers to help them in the war.
The Marines were so protective of the Code Talkers that if there was any danger of the Indians being
captured for the Japanese to learn the code the Marines would have to kill the Code Talker. After the
Navajo Code, also known as the Type One Codes, were created the Marine Corps started a Code

A deficiency in the alpha 1 antitrypsin protein that protects the lung from other enzymes can lead to
COPD. This will usually occur in the under 35 age range.
Traditionally, COPD affected males more than females but with the increase in female smoking in
developed countries combined with the increased use of fossil fuels in the home in developing
countries, there has been an increase in females developing COPD. COPD now affects females more
than males, however when the age factor is taken into consideration then the death rate is 46% higher
in males than females. The disease also affects more Caucasian people than people of darker
orientation, again with age taken into account, the death rate being 63% higher amongst Caucasians
than darker ethnicities. (Chronic obstructive pulmunary disease causes, 2012)
In a recent World Health Organisation publication (World Health Organisation, 2013) an estimated 64
million people were suffering from COPD in 2004 and 5 million people died worldwide due to the
effects of COPD, which accounted for 5% of total world deaths in 2005. Due to the lack of effective
treatment in developing countries, almost 90% of worldwide deaths occur in low middle income
countries.

Information processing and cognitive development Essay
Information Processing and Cognitive Development
Information processing is a perspective (approach) to the study of cognition and cognitive
development in which the mind is likened to a computer. However, rather than focusing on mere input
and output, psychologists who adhere to this approach place specific emphasis on the processes of
cognitive development. Cognitive perspectives examine development in terms of mental processing.
The two major views within this subject are cognitive developmental theory and information
processing theory.
Theorists claim that our cognitive processes are like that of a computer. They have used this as a
model to break down the process of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Processing capacity is the amount of information a person can remember or think about ay one time.
Researchers measure it by representing a series of information very quickly and counting how many
items a person can remember in exact order this changes in processing capacity help explain age
differences on many kinds of cognitive tasks (learned tasks). As children mature an their capacity
grows, they gain the ability to consider several sources of information at the same time, and their
cognitive processing becomes more flexible and powerful (Cook).
When the brain recognizes familiar tasks it processes the information and applies the correct rules to
the procedure in order to reduce the demand on the working memory and allow for higher order
processing of information. Automaticity is the ability to effortlessly complete everyday tasks with low
interference of other simultaneous activities and without conscious thought. The development of
automaticity involves a shift in brain usage and a reduction in brain activity. As skills are repeated, the
brain recognizes the information and can process it more quickly and with less effort(Cook).
Attention becomes more sustained and selective with age; children become better at focusing on just
those aspects of a situation that are relevant to their goals. Older children are also better at adapting
attention to task requirements. Gains in cognitive inhibition,

Determining Fitness Goals
5 ways to reach your fitness goals and stay healthy:
Many of us think about improving our bodies but find ourselves unable to realize those goals. We
either find it too hard to follow a workout plan through with consistency, loose interest mid way or
find ourselves unsure of how to reach our aims. The underlying reason behind all these obstacles is the
same and that is a lack of preparedness. Even if you deeply want to get leaner or become more
muscular and attractive you won t be able to go too far if you don t spend time in understanding how
the human mind works. The reason for this is that bringing about a significant change in one s body is
a long and tiring process; one that requires constant self supervision, restraint and dedication. ... Show

The important thing to remember here is that their are no shortcuts when it comes to re shaping your
body. Yes, you can use artificial means to improve your appearance but the results will fade soon and
they all eventually do more harm than good to your body So, read up about safe means of attaining
your fitness aims and be sure to come up with a well rounded plan where you tackle the issue at
multiple fronts. You can do this by altering your eating habits, incorporating pertinent physical
exercise and avoiding unhealthy activities like smoking or alcohol that work to nullify the effects of
your efforts. This will allow your fitness aims to transform into an overall healthy lifestyle which will
be easier to sustain in the long run This is recommended as singular efforts such as weight loss diet
plans or quick workouts tend to loose their momentum or get ignored amidst a hectic lifestyle. When
you know the activities that you need to perform, turn them into an action plan whereby you
incorporate these activities into your daily/ weekly routine. Then, come up with ways of managing the
innate human tendencies that will inevitably and subtly try to derail you from this plan. You can do
this by understanding the underlying cause of these tendencies which in most cases is a lack of
accountability and a strong intrinsic motivation. So, overcome them by telling

Who Is Napoleon Bonaparte Rise To Power
In my opinion, Napoleon was the creator of his times. This man made himself a dictator of France,
ensuring that he would have full power to do whatever he pleased. Though his friends urged him to
seize political power in the first place, Napoleon agreed to this suggestion and from there built his
empire. As time went on, Napoleon simply grew in his thirst for power, starting wars and attempting
to conquer all of Europe and regain French power in America. Napoleon began his dictatorship by
strengthening the economy and supporting new laws that would help the government grow. In order to
do these things, Napoleon first set in place a tax collection and stable banking system. From there,
with a constant flow of money stabilizing the economy, Napoleon revised the government, making it

By doing this, Napoleon created a new relationship with the Church in which the government
acknowledged the importance of the Church but did not allow the Church to have any control in

this agreement. Napoleon s greatest work in his mind was his system of laws, called the Napoleonic
Code. This set of laws gave France a straightforward list of injustices. Several of these laws from the
code promoted authority and order over rights of individuals such as freedom of speech and slavery in
the Caribbean. In the short period of only four years after Napoleon was named first consul, Napoleon
decided to become emperor. French supporters watched as Napoleon took the crown from the pope
and placed it on his own head at the Notre Dame Cathedral. By doing this Napoleon implied that he
was of even greater power than the Church, who in the past had crowned rulers. Though he had
accomplished much, Napoleon was determined to conquer all of Europe and control the Americas as

You can also define the skill as your ability to change the actions or behaviors of other people, or to
encourage the actions and behaviors of others.
In a business setting this would be a manager s ability to get his employees to do their work more
efficiently; in a relationship this would be the influence to gain compromise from your partner,
siblings or children.
In the public this would be your ability to negotiate with strangers and foreigners, to get out of bad
situations or simply to negotiate better positions for yourself.
How the skill could be useful in business
In the work environment you do not always have the decision making autonomy that you need to
make your ideas a priority so the ability to persuade others to endorse or advocate for your ideas is a
valuable skill. When you re working with others, if you ever take on too much work it would be great
to be able to persuade your coworkers to assist you. You may even need to persuade your supervisors
or shareholders to give you more time instead of putting you under more pressure.
If you are responsible for training customer facing employees in your organization not only do you
have to be able to persuade them you need to be able to teach them persuasion in how to work with
your organization s customers. You may also need to persuade coworkers and employees to get them
more motivated and focused on their work.
If you want to grow in your organization you will find yourself constantly persuading the

Comparing Synoptic Gospels In Matthew, Mark, And Luke
Synoptic Comparison Matthew, Mark, and Luke are the three books in the New Testament that have
been titled the synoptic gospels. The three gospels differ in some dramatic ways, but have many
similar stories and accounts of the life of Jesus. There have been disputes over the source and the
relationship between the three gospels, but most scholars tend to agree that the gospel of Mark was
written first, and the authors of Matthew and Luke used Mark as a source for their work. This Markan
priority helps scholars to begin to examine the differences and similarities that appear across the
synoptic gospels, and determine how and why many pericopes seem to vary and even contradict each
other at times. An example of one of the passages that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Mark, Jesus time in his hometown of Nazareth abruptly ends when he decides to leave town and go
to teach in other villages. Luke, however, tells us that Jesus interactions with the Nazarenes are not yet
over. Jesus begins to tell the people how in the time of Elijah and Elisha there was a famine in the land
and many people were suffering because of it, Gentiles and Jews alike. Elijah and Elisha, however,
were sent by God not to the Jews and people of Israel, but to outsiders in other places. This was a form
of punishment for the people of Israel for the rejection of God. Jesus pointed out the passage because
he wanted to warn the Nazarenes of what might happen if they continue to reject his teachings.
Another possibility is that Luke added this section to promote his social agenda of righting the
situations of people that have been wronged and, more importantly, giving up money and possessions
to the poor, outcasts and women. Jesus talks about how God decided to send the prophets to the
outcasts in other regions rather than the Israelites, who had already received much favor from God in
the past. The Nazarenes were offended at Jesus mention of God s inclusion of Gentiles by sending aid
for them and not for the Jews, showing universalism. God blessed the people that were righteous and
worthy of his aid, and the Jews were not happy that Jesus brought up God s sending of his prophets to
Gentiles as opposed to Jews in the Old Testament. This addition by Luke explains why the Nazarenes
became so upset at what Jesus was telling them. Jesus used these examples as a way of previewing
that his mission was to reach everyone, not just Jews. The addition of these examples shows how Luke
wanted to highlight his theme of universalism and including everyone who is willing to follow. Luke s
major themes of righting social wrongs and giving up comforting possessions are also supported
through the addition of this

The Management Team At My Hotel
After failing the Marriott audit on February 10th the management team at my hotel had a three hour
meeting about how to improve our score. Everyone was aware that a Marriott auditor would be
coming back anonymously within sixty days. The Bistro part of the audit was the area that failed
miserably, so that is where management concentrated almost all of their effort on improving their
score. The woman from the Bistro that made a score of zero was allowed to stay on with a warning.
The week after the audit she came into work and hour late for two of her shifts and just decided not to
show up for another shift. I would like to say that management fired her after she skipped her shift
without calling, but no she was given one more chance. The Bistro had a mandatory meeting the next
morning and she was going to be allowed to continue working at The Courtyard if she decided to
show up. She obviously did not show up for the meeting and finally management decided to let her
go. Every person in management had been warned about this woman by almost every member of the
front desk staff. They could have saved themselves from failing audit by listening. A new employee
was hired for the bistro, he has worked for a different Courtyard Bistro and is well trained. Every
morning after the manager s meeting a member of management would come in to evaluate and
monitor the Bistro. I was very impressed with Ashley Miller who is our head of sales. She basically

that my confirmed strengths are Oppositional, Power, Competitive and Perfectionist. I do not
demonstrate strong Oppositional self. I tend to keep an open mind and am willing to listen to others
opinion. Sometimes, I feel I go along with what others want easily. In my close relationships, I am
more opinionated than I am with my colleagues. I would like to develop the ability to be more

My areas of unrecognized strengths are Humanistic/Encouraging, Affiliate, Conventional and

Summary Of Seven Years In Tibet
Ann Braun RS 390 Movie Review ( Seven Years in Tibet) November 20, 2017 For this student of
Buddhism, the movie Seven Years in Tibet was a historically correct, religiously sound, and moving
depiction of the beauty and power of this eastern non monotheistic faith. Furthermore, the grand
biography of the Austrian climber Heinrich Harrier, not only illustrated the supernatural aspects of the
faith, but also its folkloric magic. Additionally, it tackled the political struggles, both externally and
parochially, that embroiled the country in the aftermath of World War II. Moreover, so poignant were
these struggles that the Chinese government banned both the lead actor and the producer from ever
visiting China. Lastly, the main theme of the movie, was one of purification and redemption in the tale
of how an egotistical mountain climber evolved when exposed to this compassionate and generous
culture. Jean Jacque Annaud sets most of this epic film in the pilgrimage city of Lhasa, were the
young Dalai Lama resides( Strong 264). Here the story illustrates the many oddities of Tibetan
Buddhism such as the magic rituals that are both part of both Buddhism and earlier folk beliefs. For
instance, the Tibetans are most afraid of foreigners, and the movie shows the people using Tantras (
magic), and making hand gestures or mudras to drive away evil (Robinson 123 124). For example,
travelers sticking their tongues out when meeting strangers, a ritual for which neither the text nor the
film offered any explanation. Just as interesting is the sounds that transport the viewer into the setting,
with hand clapping and bells, both rituals for keeping evil away( Robinson 124). Moreover, the most
powerful use of tantra magic is a scene where the monks have created a large mandala or power circle,
in hopes of affecting a peaceful solution to the conflict with the communist Chinese government.
When the Chinese generals stride through the meticulously created chalk masterpiece, destroying the
work as they go, the audience understands that both Tibet and Buddhism are doomed. Another
example of the supernatural is the Dalai Lamas prophetic powers, as the thirteenth predicts that
foreigners will overrun Tibet, and the

Persuasive Essay On Family Farm
What is the main problem in our world today? Some people may say war or the racism going on in our
world but really the main problem is the need for food. Everybody likes eating, not just because it s a
hobby but because we need food to survive. The population of this world is increasing drastically and
soon enough by the year of 2050 the population will be nine billion. That is a lot of mouths to feed.
Our country can battle this sharp increase by developing GMO s. GMO stands for genetically
modified organisms which can increase the production or yield of a plant drastically. These genetically
modified plants can range from an ear of corn to plump apple on a tree. Some people may think
though that GMO s are deadly and that going a more organic pathaway is much safer. In reality
though, GMO s are just as safe as organic products and even produce double the amount. The key on
feeding this monstrous growth in population would be leaving organic in the past. Let s go back to the
foundation of our country, the family farm. The farm is a bright sunny place that raises the food we eat
today. Now how does GMO s relate to the simple family farm? Well for one the farm is the beginning
process of getting the bread on your sandwich or the cereal you eat for breakfast. What do we do to
produce this piece of bread or develop the simple bowl of cereal? Well for starters farmers raise
genetically modified crops like corn, soybeans, wheat, and many others. Some of these grains can

Imperialism is the building of an empire by using power in the form of economic, political or military

Technology Has Hindered The American Society

Professor M. Basalla
ESL 151
November 29, 2016
Technology has Hindered the American Society Technology has become an important part of the
American lifestyle. Everything from work to school involves technology in some way, shape, or form.
For example, computers have made gathering and transferring information much simpler and
accessible. This is a benefit to society because people are able to become better educated in a
convenient fashion. Convenience has always been one of the main goals that technology has tried to
accomplish. All major inventions, from automobiles to the internet, were created to make life more
convenient and easier for people. Whereas automobiles made it easier for people to travel long
distances in short amounts of time, the Internet has made gathering information, doing business, and
learning much more convenient. Although convenience is a major benefit that technology gives us,
there are also negative effects on society as a result of new inventions. Not all technology is
beneficial, many new technologies have had a negative impact on our youth. Therefore, technology
has hindered the American society because it has made people more self centered, encouraged laziness
in American youth, and made establishing relationships much more difficult.
Technology has hindered the American society by making people more self centered, selfish, and
boastful. One of the ways that people are more self centered is through social media. 7 Deadly

Funding Recreational Areas Into The Scholarship
Beyond conservation then, lies the sense that historians have frequently neglected to incorporate how
preservation of specific recreational areas into their scholarship. This is vital considering that without
this frame of reference, conservation is lost within the idea that it is separate from nature. As an
attempt to explain this neglect is the awareness that One group of critics has suggested that the
complexity and stochasticity of natural processes invariably complicate attempts to preserve
wilderness, creating an additional layer suggestive of the thought that scholars shy away from
integrating specific instances of land use in their studies. As Paul Sutter suggests, past historians have
frequently and inadvertently written about conservation, especially in the case of wilderness, as a form
of enclosure. In doing so, Sutter s work correlates with Jacoby s considering that conservation has
been viewed as a worthwhile endeavor, while neglecting to comprehend the ramifications it had on
certain groups. Perhaps most interesting in Sutter s argument, is the traditional method of examining
conservation as a part of the Progressive Movement, leading historians to consider that nature is
simply a human paradigm, and that the ties between nature and humans are not as significant as they
appear.
Paramount to Sutter s argument is his association between conservation and Benton MacKaye. The
author frequently uses MacKaye to illustrate public/private partnerships as have other

Hamilton and John Jay wrote the Federalist papers. The authors of the Federalist papers wrote these
essays in a way where it explained how the American government should be formed and the
significance of the American government in how it relates to the daily lives of the American people.
The authors of the Federalist papers also answered any topics that were concerning those who were
opposed to the Constitution, as well as those who anxious if the newly proposed Constitution would
be certain situations that they were currently living in. The authors also provided an ample amount of
examples in history to strengthen their argument of the proposal of the U.S. Constitution, but that is
not to say there were not weakness embedded into these arguments. Federalist paper No. 10 begins by
introducing the idea that a well established government has the capabilities of controlling the potential
violence and damage caused by factions. From James Madison s perspective, a faction is a

The Effects of Gender Roles and Gender Identity on...
The Effects of Gender Roles and Gender Identity on Behaviour
Gender is a psychological term, which refers to our awareness and reaction to biological sex. It is also
a fundamental part of our learning concept.
Gender is influenced by many things, which include:
Biological Influences =====================
Such as, Genetics, Estrogens and Androgens.
Social Influences =================
Such as,
Identification theory, which is:
1. Sexual attraction to the opposite sex
2. Anxiety about sexual attraction
3. Identification with same sex parent adapting there characteristics

The androgens affect males by controlling the onset of puberty, biological fertility etc and the
estrogens are important to females hormones which control the timing of biological maturity and
menstruation. Girls exposed to higher levels of androgen are defeminized in sex type interests,
abilities and behaviour, but not core gender identity.
Some studies by John Money and his colleagues have been made of girls whose mothers received
excessive amounts of androgens during pregnancy (to reduce the likelihood of miscarriage) .The
babies developed Androgential Syndrome. As they grew they tended to be more aggressive and
tomboyish , and less feminine. They preferred male activities with male company and expressed more
interest in a career than in having a family.
(G.C Davenport, ESSENTIAL PSYCHOLOGY, chapter five, page 116.)
When a child is born their gender role (set of expectations to say how they should think, act, feel.) is
based on their gender identity (sense of being male/female), which is usually based on what sex the
child s genitalia reflects.
When we look at children who have Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, it is interesting to see that
some individuals develop in a feminine direction and acquire a sense of identity as female but others
are brought up as males. The child s upbringing was based purely on judgements about their genitals,

Frank Dikötter s The Cultural Revolution
Between 1962 to 1976, China underwent one of the most devastating government lead social reforms,
the Cultural Revolution. The Cultural Revolution was a sociopolitical movement lead by Mao Zedong
where his influence made many young Chinese students, who would be known as Red Guards, pledge
to a social political war against capitalism. Frank Dikötter is the author of his award winning book
called The Cultural Revolution: A People s History, 1962 1976, where he presents The Cultural
Revolution in a new light by constructing it from the perspective of the individuals who experienced
it. In Dikötter s analysis of the Revolution, he divides it into four different timeframes: the Early Years
(1962 66), the Red Years (1966 68), the Black Years (1968 71), ... Show more content on

In the novel We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, there is a dystopian society called the One State meant to be a
fictional representation of Soviet Russia, i.e. the U.S.S.R. One of the One State s goals in the novel
was to surgically remove the part of the brain responsible for imagination so that all humans in the
One State would become a uniform collective capable of efficient machine like labor. This was called
the Great Operation and the people of the One State were given a published message on the front page
of the One State Gazette which said, You are perfect. You are machinelike. The road to one hundred
per cent happiness is free. Hurry, then, everyone old and young hurry to submit to the Great Operation
(Zamyatin 180). In the One State, the government and its people believed that they must rid
themselves of identity and become a single all encompassing machine, and this desire become more
stronger as rumors of a revolution was stirring up. Although Zamyatin s story is very fictional, it is
eerily similar to China s Cultural Revolution and Red Guards. After China had gotten rid of all older
ideas, the country was transforming into a uniform communist resistance against capitalism, and they
also tried to flush out counter revolutions to also protect the country from alternate thought. To be put

The Church Of New France
One of the many things the settlers of New France bought with them from France into North America
was religion. Historians have argued that the church played huge part in the lives of the people in New
France. Despite being far away from the leaders of the church and thus not directly under their control,
the church still played a role in the lives of the people of New France. By the 1600s Jesuit
missionaries had entered New France and started their attempts to convert the First Nations people. As
more settlers moved into New France it was more difficult for the church to keep its status. They
attempted with various methods to convert more First Nations and keep the European settlers in the
church. However, post 1663, after the creation of the Royal Colony, the issues regarding religion and
the issues it was causing did not decrease.
The primary source being used is a document by Annie Rollo Stagg titled The importance of religion
to woman . Secondary sources include the Role of the Church in New France , The People of New
France , Business and Religion in the Age of New France, 1600 1760: Twenty two Studies , and First
Establishment of the Faith in New France . I will argue that the church in post 1663 New France
played an enormous part of the people residing there, especially women. The church was not a place
for people to worship but politically, socially and economically influenced the post 1663 life in New
France.
The Roman Catholic Church was the exclusive

Experimental Procedures Of An Ige Antibody
There were several experimental procedures that were performed by Bayry et al that allowed for this
experiment to be performed. One of these procedures included treatment of an IgE antibody that is
produced specifically in mice, SPE7 with heme using the technique immunoblotting to determine the
polyreactivity of heme and the resulting consequences of the reaction. Immunoblotting, also known as
western blotting, is a type of an assay that is specifically used for the detection and characterization of
proteins1. According to Gallagher and Chakavarti, immunoblotting works by exploiting the specificity
inherent in antigen antibody recognition5. It involves the solubilization and electrophoretic separation
of proteins, glycoproteins, or lipopolysaccharides by gel electrophoresis, followed by quantitative
transfer and irreversible binding to nitrocellulose, PVDF, or nylon5. The immunoblotting technique
has been useful in identifying specific antigens recognized by polyclonal or monoclonal antibodies
and is highly sensitive5. This unit provides protocols for protein separation, blotting proteins onto
membranes, immunoprobing, and visualization5. Another technique used was an Enzyme Linked
Immunosorbent Assay or ELISA. The purpose of an ELISA is to determine if a particular protein is
present in a sample and if so, how much6. There are two main variations on this method and
whichever one is used depends on the type of experiment that is being run. One can determine how

Loyalty And Trust In The Odyssey

Odyssey Essay
The times have really changed throughout history and especially from the Odyssey was written, how
we see certain things right now are completely different from how people used to see them back in the
days.Media s emphasis on loyalty, ambition and trust are drastically different from the Odyssey and
because of this shift, it has transformed today s generation.
Today our youth take the loyalty different than the people in the Odyssey. Nowadays being known as
loyal is a bad thing, for example the quote these hoes ain t loyal is commonly used whenever a usually
a guy gets cheated on by a female. The origin of the word come from the some Loyal by Chris Brown.

Currently trust is something big which gossip, inappropriate images, secrets and personal issues, but in
the book the Odyssey trust was about trusting the gods and trusting that someone, a leader maybe
would save someone s life. Nowadays trust is about trusting a friend or someone doesn t spill what has
been said about someone or the pictures that were taken that were mostly nude to be leaked. In the
Odyssey however his crewmen trusted him with their lives so it was a greater deal. For instance when
they trusted him in going back and not listening to Eurylochus when he said they should go back on
Circuses island. Another time that they trusted him their lives was when decided to stay with and
Circus for a whole year knowing that she once turned some of them into pigs. When they were
heading back home they trusted him and did everything he told them when they reached the obstacles
like Scylla and sirens. In present times people often trust others with personal problems, such as
family conflicts and work issues. One wouldn t want their family issues broadcasted, like serious
problems like

Phone Addiction Essay
Phone Addiction for Teens and Their Parents In the article Half of Teens Think They re Addicted to
Their Smartphones by Kelly Wallace the general argument is that phones are addictive not just to
teens, but to everyone. Wallace starts the article by talking about how her children, 8 and 10 years old,
are spending more and more time on iPads while on spring break. Due to this early iPad addiction she
worries about her children for when they are older and have their own phones. It then goes to a few
different polls that state that everybody, not just teens, are becoming addicted to their cell phones.
According to a survey Common Sense Media conducted 50% of teens personally feel they are
addicted to their phone. Even more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Janis Elspas, founder of Mommy Blog Expert, says that she, believes the rules and boundaries parents
set for their children when they get their first cell phone or smartphone might be helpful in heading off
any addictions later on. (9) Elspas children, now 18 and 20, didn t own their first cell phones until they
were at least a junior in high school with money to pay for part of their phone bills. Elspas also has a
no phone rule at table which goes to her and her husband, their children and any friends her kids bring
over. She believes, Such a rule can prove to kids, firsthand, that they can survive without having to see
or use their smartphone constantly (12) While phone addiction is still running rampant the Common
Sense Media poll found that more than a third, 37%, of teens very often or at least occasionally try to
cut down on the time they spend on their electronics. Many parents complain about how this
generation overuses and can t seem to put their phones down, but many parents will admit they don t
always have the easiest time unplugging themselves. Twenty seven percent of parents feel that they
are addicted to their phones as well and 28% of teens believe they are as well. Both teens and parents
admit to checking their at least hourly with parents at 69% and teens at 78%. About half of parents
admitted to feeling the need to immediately

7 Habits Of Highly Effective People By Stephen R. Covey
In the book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey he explains how the world is
entirely based on our own perception. In order to change a situation, we must change ourselves, and in
order to change ourselves we have to change our perception. These days, individuals look for quick
solutions. They see successful people, companies, and organizations that have achieved success and
wonder how they can get a hold of their techniques. The problem is these shortcuts that we all look
for, hoping to save time and energy and still received the desired result, isn t... The way we see the
problem is the problem (pg. ) As individual we have to allow ourselves to experience a change in how
we think. Covey explains how we must altar our attitude and behavior in order to achieve true change
through the seven habits. Habit 1: Principles of Personal Vision Throughout this habit we are
reminded what it means to be responsible for ourselves. We learn to take initiative, choosing our
attitude, and always doing the right thing even when no one is looking. We know as individual that we
can easily give up on a situation or relationship if it is too hard or not going the way you want, but
Covey reminds us that we choose the script for our lives. Do not give up but use self awareness to be
proactive and take reasonability for our choices. What distinguishes us as humans is our ability to
examine our own character, to decide how to view ourselves and our situations, and control

Prince Albert, later known as King George VI (Colin Firth), stammers excessively and uncontrollably through his inaugural speech closing the 1925 British Empire Exhibition due to a speech impediment. After finishing such a disappointing speech, Prince Albert decides to give up on himself and accept his fate as a stammering heir to the throne. In the movie he states: If I m King, where s my power? Can I form a government? Can I levy a tax, declare a war? No! And yet I am the seat of all authority. Why? Because the nation believes that when I speak, I speak for them. But I can t speak ( The King s Speech (2010) ). Prince Albert was a troubled child who was repressed of using his left hand, possessed knock knees, had an abusive nanny and a death of a brother at an early age. As time passed, Prince Albert never grew out of his comfort zone and continued to speak poorly. Because Prince Albert speaks of himself that way, we can assume that communication is essential in leading a nation and is a foundation for personal life, relationships, professional success and civic life. By saying that a nation believes when he speaks, one can generally expect a leader for any reason or cause to possess great speaking skills in order to be prosperous. However, Haitians choose to see voodoo priests instead of western medical doctors because religion is very important to them and voodoo priests provide the spiritual healing they seek. The consequence of western doctors not understanding the importance of voodoo religion in the treatment process is the biggest deterrent to Haitians accepting western healthcare. Since traditional healers are acknowledged in their community as being a trusted spiritual healer it is critical for healthcare practitioners to understand the role of the traditional healers in counseling, health promotion and education. Given that between 65% 80% of the worlds human population is dependent on traditional and alternative medicine as their primary healthcare, it becomes necessary that these issues be part of the discourse on health and healing in the 21 century . Meaning of Everlast s Song What It s Like Sydney Sanders English 305 Professor Michael Harrold 1 February 2011 Song Argument Essay What it s Like by Everlast is a song that tells not one but three different stories. It touches on homelessness, abortion and drug violence. Three very relevant topics, despite its 1998 release date. The song cautions those who are quick to judge and reminds us all, to take second look. The song also argues that the listener may one day find themselves in a similar situation and they may one day be the homeless person, the girl walking into the clinic or the family member of a drug dealer. Everlast is not a band with several members; it s actually the solo project of Erik Schrody who was a former member of an Irish Hip Hop group called House of Pain. The group ended in 1996. What It s Like was Schrody s first single after his exit from the group and became his most well known. The song was released as a single first and then later on an album titled Whitey Ford Sings the Blues . The song was released after Schrody quit drinking and found religion. A listener knowing this might realize why he was so reflective and cautioning those who felt they could never be one of those people . He knew exactly how the characters he created felt. The style of the song is very crucial in how it comes across to the listener. It is a simple song with a mellow sound and a focus on the lyrics. The song consists of Everlast s deep, dark voice and use of often graphic words. This song is consistent with the artist s usual style and combines elements of hip hop and blues. The sound of the acoustic guitar and the steady beat of the drum highlight the story being told instead of drowning it out, like many songs do. The edgy style of the song lends itself to the message being sent. Great songs are ones that are never outdated, they are songs that generations later, remain relevant and worth ... While watching 42nd Street, the musical numbers were quite confusing to me. I struggled to understand how they provided context to the film. As I did not see how they fit within the storyline of the films. I also believe the disconnection between the numbers and the film made me question, the films event s and I thought I misunderstood certain moments in the film because the musical numbers did not make sense. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was as if the focus was the music numbers opposed to the films, which in my opinion is the best part of a musical. I enjoyed watching the numbers and seeing the elaborate costumes and details that were put into them. A good example of this was the during the musical number Maybe This Time sung by Sally which demonstrated her relationship with Brian and how it has evolved. Their relationship turned into more than a friendship and as the number goes on Sally sings of the hope she has of this relationship being the real deal and withstanding the test of time.Through this musical number the audience is able to understood how Sally is feeling without the use of any actual dialogue. I do believe there is some relation between the context of integration/non integration and the contexts in which the films were made. 42nd Street was created during the Great Depression and it seems as if there was some caution in terms of the film was made. Introduction Development within artificial intelligence (AI) has produced machines or computers that can imitate human like understanding and intelligence. Programs have been produced to allow AI a form of seemingly natural interaction. Due to such movement in technology can we use the notion of functionalism to suggest that these AI can understand, think and be intelligent? This essay will highlight that despite further development within computers, that some suggest have surpassed the intelligence of many humans, by using John Searle s argument, conclude the impossibility for computers to understand language or possess the ability to think. What is functionalism? Functionalism is the theory that focuses on the functional role. What is key to the functionalist is the function, or the role the function plays in cognitive systems. Functionalists take the identity of a mental state to be classified by its causal relations to sensory stimulations, other mental states, and behavior. For instance, fully function definition. Some adults have trouble manipulating their children and teaching them what is right from wrong, while others have a much easier time doing so. In my opinion there is no such thing as the perfect parent , both the mother and the father have their flaws, but what matters is that the parent is always there for personal support. One parent shows responsibilities for their kids while the other parent shows no remorse for her daughter. The three gospels differ in some dramatic ways, but have many similar stories and accounts of the life of Jesus. There have been disputes over the source and the relationship between the three gospels, but most scholars tend to agree that the gospel of Mark was written first, and the authors of Matthew and Luke used Mark as a source for their work. This Markan priority helps scholars to begin to examine the differences and similarities that appear across the synoptic gospels, and determine how and why many pericopes seem to vary and even contradict each other at times. An example of one of the passages that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Mark, Jesus time in his hometown of Nazareth abruptly ends when he decides to leave town and go to teach in other villages. Luke, however, tells us that Jesus interactions with the Nazarenes are not yet over. Jesus begins to tell the people how in the time of Elijah and Elisha there was a famine in the land and many people were suffering because of it, Gentiles and Jews alike. Elijah and Elisha, however, were sent by God not to the Jews and people of Israel, but to outsiders in other places. This was a form of punishment for the people of Israel for the rejection of God. Jesus pointed out the passage because he wanted to warn the Nazarenes of what might happen if they continue to reject his teachings. Another possibility is that Luke added this section to promote his social agenda of righting the situations of people that have been wronged and, more importantly, giving up money and possessions to the poor, outcasts and women. Jesus talks about how God decided to send the prophets to the outcasts in other regions rather than the Israelites, who had already received much favor from God in the past. The Nazarenes were offended at Jesus mention of God s inclusion of Gentiles by sending aid for them and not for the Jews, showing universalism. God blessed the people that were righteous and worthy of his aid, and the Jews were not happy that Jesus brought up God s sending of his prophets to Gentiles as opposed to Jews in the Old Testament. This addition by Luke explains why the Nazarenes became so upset at what Jesus was telling them. Jesus used these examples as a way of previewing that his mission was to reach everyone, not just Jews. The addition of these examples shows how Luke wanted to highlight his theme of universalism and including everyone who is willing to follow. • 31. Summary Of Seven Years In Tibet Ann Braun RS 390 Movie Review ( Seven Years in Tibet) November 20, 2017 For this student of Buddhism, the movie Seven Years in Tibet was a historically correct, religiously sound, and moving depiction of the beauty and power of this eastern non monotheistic faith. Furthermore, the grand biography of the Austrian climber Heinrich Harrier, not only illustrated the supernatural aspects of the faith, but also its folkloric magic. Additionally, it tackled the political struggles, both externally and parochially, that embroiled the country in the aftermath of World War II. Moreover, so poignant were these struggles that the Chinese government banned both the lead actor and the producer from ever visiting China. Lastly, the main theme of the movie, was one of purification and redemption in the tale of how an egotistical mountain climber evolved when exposed to this compassionate and generous culture. Jean Jacque Annaud sets most of this epic film in the pilgrimage city of Lhasa, were the young Dalai Lama resides( Strong 264). Here the story illustrates the many oddities of Tibetan Buddhism such as the magic rituals that are both part of both Buddhism and earlier folk beliefs. For instance, the Tibetans are most afraid of foreigners, and the movie shows the people using Tantras ( magic), and making hand gestures or mudras to drive away evil (Robinson 123 124). For example, travelers sticking their tongues out when meeting strangers, a ritual for which neither the text nor the film offered any explanation. Just as interesting is the sounds that transport the viewer into the setting, with hand clapping and bells, both rituals for keeping evil away( Robinson 124). Moreover, the most powerful use of tantra magic is a scene where the monks have created a large mandala or power circle, in hopes of affecting a peaceful solution to the conflict with the communist Chinese government. When the Chinese generals stride through the meticulously created chalk masterpiece, destroying the work as they go, the audience understands that both Tibet and Buddhism are doomed. Another example of the supernatural is the Dalai Lamas prophetic powers, as the thirteenth predicts that foreigners will overrun Tibet, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The population of this world is increasing drastically and soon enough by the year of 2050 the population will be nine billion. That is a lot of mouths to feed. Our country can battle this sharp increase by developing GMO s. GMO stands for genetically modified organisms which can increase the production or yield of a plant drastically. In reality though, GMO s are just as safe as organic products and even produce double the amount. The key on feeding this monstrous growth in population would be leaving organic in the past. Everything from work to school involves technology in some way, shape, or form. For example, computers have made gathering and transferring information much simpler and accessible. This is a benefit to society because people are able to become better educated in a convenient fashion. Convenience has always been one of the main goals that technology has tried to accomplish. All major inventions, from automobiles to the internet, were created to make life more convenient and easier for people. Whereas automobiles made it easier for people to travel long distances in short amounts of time, the Internet has made gathering information, doing business, and learning much more convenient. Although convenience is a major benefit that technology gives us, there are also negative effects on society as a result of new inventions. Not all technology is beneficial, many new technologies have had a negative impact on our youth. Therefore, technology has hindered the American society because it has made people more self centered, encouraged laziness in American youth, and made establishing relationships much more difficult. Funding Recreational Areas Into The Scholarship Beyond conservation then, lies the sense that historians have frequently neglected to incorporate how preservation of specific recreational areas into their scholarship. This is vital considering that without this frame of reference, conservation is lost within the idea that it is separate from nature. As an attempt to explain this neglect is the awareness that One group of critics has suggested that the complexity and stochasticity of natural processes invariably complicate attempts to preserve wilderness, creating an additional layer suggestive of the thought that scholars shy away from integrating specific instances of land use in their studies. As Paul Sutter suggests, past historians have frequently and inadvertently written about conservation, especially in the case of wilderness, as a form of enclosure. In doing so, Sutter s work correlates with Jacoby s considering that conservation has been viewed as a worthwhile endeavor, while neglecting to comprehend the ramifications it had on certain groups. Perhaps most interesting in Sutter s argument, is the traditional method of examining conservation as a part of the Progressive Movement, leading historians to consider that nature is simply a human paradigm, and that the ties between nature and humans are not as significant as they appear. Paramount to Sutter s argument is his association between conservation and Benton MacKaye. The author frequently uses MacKaye to illustrate public/private partnerships as have other ... • 41. Apple Inc, By Steven Wozniak Essay Apple Inc. was founded by Steven Jobs and Steven Wozniak in 1976 by selling a designer personal computer, called the Apple 1. Through technology Steven Jobs and Steven Wozniak were able to introduce a mass produced personal computer called the Apple 2, which was the first color display. With the Apple 2 being a success the partner upcoming revision of the product line was the Macintosh (Mac), a user friendly product that allows users to interact with screen images rather than text commands. The Macintosh (Mac) was introduced to the public in 1984 but failed to uphold as a prospering product. Software used in the Mac was not upgraded and did not have the availability to compete with the other leading electronic equipment such as PC and IBM, which had previously been introduced in 1981. Although the Mac started out with initial success my analysis shows that the software used in the Mac was under such tight restrictions that no outside software developers were allowed to obtain any information on the software used. Apple s restrictions on the Apple Certified Developers Program for software made it difficult for Mac to compete with other leading Microsoft, which was the introduction of Window s 1.0. Unlike Apple, Microsoft made the software used available to other computer companies. Apple did not sell or share software with rival companies. Even with the introduction of Mac, Apple was able to set prices higher than the competitors. With the introduction of Window s 1.0 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The authors of the Federalist papers wrote these essays in a way where it explained how the American government should be formed and the significance of the American government in how it relates to the daily lives of the American people. The authors of the Federalist papers also answered any topics that were concerning those who were opposed to the Constitution, as well as those who anxious if the newly proposed Constitution would be certain situations that they were currently living in. The authors also provided an ample amount of examples in history to strengthen their argument of the proposal of the U.S. Constitution, but that is not to say there were not weakness embedded into these arguments. When a child is born their gender role (set of expectations to say how they should think, act, feel.) is based on their gender identity (sense of being male/female), which is usually based on what sex the child s genitalia reflects. When we look at children who have Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, it is interesting to see that some individuals develop in a feminine direction and acquire a sense of identity as female but others are brought up as males. The Cultural Revolution was a sociopolitical movement lead by Mao Zedong where his influence made many young Chinese students, who would be known as Red Guards, pledge to a social political war against capitalism. Frank Dikötter is the author of his award winning book called The Cultural Revolution: A People s History, 1962 1976, where he presents The Cultural Revolution in a new light by constructing it from the perspective of the individuals who experienced it. In the novel We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, there is a dystopian society called the One State meant to be a fictional representation of Soviet Russia, i.e. the U.S.S.R. One of the One State s goals in the novel was to surgically remove the part of the brain responsible for imagination so that all humans in the One State would become a uniform collective capable of efficient machine like labor. This was called the Great Operation and the people of the One State were given a published message on the front page of the One State Gazette which said, You are perfect. You are machinelike. The road to one hundred per cent happiness is free. Hurry, then, everyone old and young hurry to submit to the Great Operation (Zamyatin 180). In the One State, the government and its people believed that they must rid themselves of identity and become a single all encompassing machine, and this desire become more stronger as rumors of a revolution was stirring up. Although Zamyatin s story is very fictional, it is eerily similar to China s Cultural Revolution and Red Guards. After China had gotten rid of all older ideas, the country was transforming into a uniform communist resistance against capitalism, and they also tried to flush out counter revolutions to also protect the country from alternate thought. • 46. The Church Of New France One of the many things the settlers of New France bought with them from France into North America was religion. Historians have argued that the church played huge part in the lives of the people in New France. Despite being far away from the leaders of the church and thus not directly under their control, the church still played a role in the lives of the people of New France. By the 1600s Jesuit missionaries had entered New France and started their attempts to convert the First Nations people. As more settlers moved into New France it was more difficult for the church to keep its status. They attempted with various methods to convert more First Nations and keep the European settlers in the church. However, post 1663, after the creation of the Royal Colony, the issues regarding religion and the issues it was causing did not decrease. The primary source being used is a document by Annie Rollo Stagg titled The importance of religion to woman . Secondary sources include the Role of the Church in New France , The People of New France , Business and Religion in the Age of New France, 1600 1760: Twenty two Studies , and First Establishment of the Faith in New France . I will argue that the church in post 1663 New France played an enormous part of the people residing there, especially women. The church was not a place for people to worship but politically, socially and economically influenced the post 1663 life in New France. The Roman Catholic Church was the exclusive ... • 47. Experimental Procedures Of An Ige Antibody There were several experimental procedures that were performed by Bayry et al that allowed for this experiment to be performed. One of these procedures included treatment of an IgE antibody that is produced specifically in mice, SPE7 with heme using the technique immunoblotting to determine the polyreactivity of heme and the resulting consequences of the reaction. Immunoblotting, also known as western blotting, is a type of an assay that is specifically used for the detection and characterization of proteins1. According to Gallagher and Chakavarti, immunoblotting works by exploiting the specificity inherent in antigen antibody recognition5. It involves the solubilization and electrophoretic separation of proteins, glycoproteins, or lipopolysaccharides by gel electrophoresis, followed by quantitative transfer and irreversible binding to nitrocellulose, PVDF, or nylon5. The immunoblotting technique has been useful in identifying specific antigens recognized by polyclonal or monoclonal antibodies and is highly sensitive5. This unit provides protocols for protein separation, blotting proteins onto membranes, immunoprobing, and visualization5. Another technique used was an Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay or ELISA. The purpose of an ELISA is to determine if a particular protein is present in a sample and if so, how much6. There are two main variations on this method and whichever one is used depends on the type of experiment that is being run. One can determine how much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The way we see the problem is the problem (pg. ) As individual we have to allow ourselves to experience a change in how we think.
