A Genuineness in Humans
Individuals like the feeling that they belong. Sometimes people believe they are alone in the world and
no one else faces similar issues. Susan Morgan starts her literacy criticism by talking about Elizabeth
Bennet s character. She mentions that Elizabeth is flawed which is why she is well liked by readers.
Her flaws show the genuineness of her character and allow readers to make a connection to her. The
connection is easily made because the way that Austen created Elizabeth made her appear to be a real
person. Elizabeth is often boldly rude and disrespectful, yet at the same time she is self confident and
an independent young woman. Rather than a perfect character in a perfect world, Elizabeth is realistic
as she is an imperfect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elizabeth puts up a front to protect herself from Darcy whom she believes is inferior, a man of sense
and education who has lived in the world, and is ill qualified to recommend himself to strangers
(Morgan 56). Elizabeth s mistake of impertinence toward Darcy is forgiven. Elizabeth s mistakes are
not based on a rejection of society even though it is quite true that they are related to her sense of
personal freedom. What we are to understand by that freedom is not the right to do and say whatever
she wants in defiance of social conventions. Rather, it is a freedom from becoming involved (Morgan
57). Elizabeth does not want to make a commitment or become involved with anyone, which is one
reason she judges Darcy harshly and attempts to push him away. Even when Elizabeth seems to be
attracted to Wickham, she really is not. Elizabeth s heart is not engaged by Mr. Wickham, her
understanding is. Her opinion of him is based on her belief in her own discernment and her separation
through intelligence from an essentially ugly world (Morgan 57). Elizabeth observes society closely
and understands that the world is an ugly place, making her understanding of Wickham s character
even as she does not know anytthing about him. She deceives herself in thinking she likes him, but
lacks serious feelings for him as she likes the idea of him, but not the commitment she would need to
make to him. It seems that

Michael Pollan Leadership
Introduction: Leaders are motivators, innovators, and passionate individuals. Through their hard work
and personality, leaders are able to set goals for themselves to create positive change both on their
own and with others. Michael Pollan, an author, food activist, journalist and professor at UC Berkeley,
demonstrates and actively practices key leadership skills that I find both inspiring and thoughtful. His
system thinking approach to his own personal learning, to leading others, and his approach to health
promotion is what makes him an exemplary leader that Kouzes and Posner would approve of.
For the past 25 years Michael Pollan had dedicated his life s work towards educating others on the
importance of nature and culture, and why the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our food system, agricultural system, and healthcare system involve many stakeholders which make
any amount of positive change very difficult to accomplish, but this does not stop Michael Pollan from
pursuing and envisioning a more sustainable way of living for all people. When he first began his
work of health promotion it was during a time of food confusion and a national health crisis. He seized
that moment and 25 years later his passion and purpose for his work is still evident. He continues to
try and help others understand the connection between our health, the health of our nation, and the
health of the environment. He supports the development of new farm policies that support local
farmers rather than large industries such as the sugar industry. He also encourages people to think
about how their daily lives of consumerism perpetuate our reliance on fossil fuels and the
consequences that has on our environment (Oke, 2016). Although change occurs slowly and can
sometimes feel nonexistent, I believe the work of Michael Pollan and others like him is making a

Essay on The Early Renaissance
The Early Renaissance
Today, what is considered to be the modern times began with the Early Renaissance at the start of the
15th century. As time has progressed, things have modified within societies to mold with the new
ways of thinking for that time. Between the years of the 1400 s and the 1800 s this world has
undergone many changes. Focusing on Europe, the major forces of change were in politics,
economics, and religion. In modern European history political effort were supplied by the state. Early
in the 15th century political warfare was the theme of everyday life. It was not until the Peace of Lodi
in 1454 that a balance of power was established and ended the hundred years war. Early in the 16th

Banking was over run by the Germans. Trade in the East came to an end with the fall of
Constantinople. By the end of the 16th century, economics had shifted from the Mediterranean to the
Atlantic with the Spanish discovery of the New World. With this trade shift the worldwide economy
was in the makings. In the 17th century mercantilism is very prominent. Things such as state granted
monopolies, regulated exports and imports, tariffs, custom duties, quotas, slavery, colonial taxes, and
plantation system were in full effect. By the 18th century, a supply and demand economy had
produced. Through mercantilism, state regulations lowered the living standards of workers. The every
day lives that were led in modern Europe where primarily surrounded by religious ideas. In the times
of the 15th century, religion in Europe revolved around the religious beliefs of the Papal Court.
Though there were many religious battles over the Church, few doubted the Church, following its
every demand. By the 16th century, many began to challenge that of the Papal State. People felt that
the beliefs and efforts of the Church had traveled way off track, and was in need of some repair.
Martin Luther began the radical attempt to fix what had gone wrong within the Papal State by posting
his Ninety five Theses upon the door of the Wittenberg University. The outcome of Luther s efforts

The Asian Journal Of Social Psychology
Learned Behavior
Learned behavior can often be compared with social learning because they both deal with the
individual being affected by observing their environment. Early theories of learned behavior and
social learning states humans and other organisms can in fact learn new behaviors from others they
encounter in social environments (Escobar, 2008). The Asian Journal of Social Psychology provides
important view into the psychology of Indonesian Islamic terrorism, focusing on the Bali Bombings of
2002. The Bali Bombings consisted of a car bomb exploding outside the Sari nightclub in Bali, a
popular tourist island in Indonesia. The attack was the worst terrorist incident in the history of
Indonesia, with 202 civilians dead and more than 100 wounded (Pike, 2011). Two other bombs
occurred including a backpack device that a suicide bomber was carrying, and a much smaller bomb
detonated outside the United States. The three brothers from Tengguin responsible for the bombings
are named Ali Ghufron, Amrozi and Ali Imron. Ghufron is the oldest in the family and served as the
role model for his younger brothers. The men responsible for these terrorist attacks in 2002 were
raised in environments that provide socialization processes in which Islamic values are established as
guidelines for daily life, including the family environment (Kruglanski, 2013). The stories Ali

Lean And Six Sigma Origins Of Statistical Tools Essay
Lean and Six Sigma, both are different words or we can say two powerful methodology which
changed the view of the manufacturer to the customer. Lean Six Sigma pleased customer with
manufacturers over the years by its implementation of various industries. Today, almost all industries
have adapted Lean Six Sigma methodology to make standard quality products. I personally feel proud

Statistics word came Latin status or state. Statistics firstly used by Romans to count or survey of a

Elite Society In George Orwell s Animal Farm
In today s world it is quite common for there to be elite societies, whether it is a result from power or
intellect. The formation of an elite society is based on how others respond to others actions. In the
novel, Animal Farm, the elite society of Animal Farm is the result of the actions of both the pigs and
the lower animals as well. The pigs use their superior knowledge to manipulate the lower animals, and
the lower animals do not rebel against the pigs or recognize they are being controlled.
The pigs create an elite society by using their superior knowledge to take advantage of the lower
animals. One example of the pigs creating an elite society is when they announce they can read and
write. The pigs reveal this to the lower animals by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of the lower animals allowing the creation of the elite society to occur is when the pigs
eat all of the milk and apples, and are not sharing the food equally between the animals. Squealer
explains to the lower animals why the pigs deserve the milks and apples by saying, Milk and
apples...contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig... [because] the whole
management... of this farm depends on us... [and] it is for your sake that we drink that milk and apples
(23). The lower animals did not rebel against this idea because they agree that the pigs need to be
healthy to run the farm. Squealer also uses fear to control the animals. He mentions to the lower
animals, if [the] pigs failed in [their] duty... Jones would come back (23). The animals believe
Squealer s statement and certainly do not want Jones to return so they do not rebel. Another example
of the lower animals allowing the creation of the society to happen is when Napoleon executes some
of the lower animals. After the execution the thoughts of Clover are, There was no thought of rebellion
or disobedience in [Clover s] mind. She knew that even as things were they were far better off than
they had been in the days of Jones (58 59). The comparison of Napoleon and Jones makes Clover have

The Play Our Town Written By Thornton Wilder
The play Our Town written by Thornton Wilder was performed by Salve Regina s department of
Music, Theatre and Dance. The play was directed by Tom Gleadow. Our Town was performed at the
Casino Theatre in Newport, RI. The show I saw was performed on the eleventh of February.
The play was separated by three acts; Daily Life, Love and Marriage, and Death and Dying. Within
the first act you see how the town functions and the characters routine. The second act shows the
marriage of the two main characters. We get the see the ceremony and how the people in town felt
about it. In the third and final act you are placed in the local cemetery with the characters that have
passed on. The moral of the story is only revealed and very prevalent at the end; the whole play was
based on the idea of taking things for granted while we are alive. I really enjoyed the basic story line,
it was easy to understand and follow. I liked it because it becomes an eye opener because as people we
tend to take things for granted until they are gone. The two main characters in Our Town are George
Gibbs, Kenny Bennell, and Emily Webb, Laura Jedynasty. In my opinion Laura did a fantastic job at
portraying Emily. Her acting was very believable especially in the last act where she had to cry. I think
Kenny did a great job with George as well. Though there was a part in the last act that he had to act
distraught and I didn t get that emotion from him; I was hoping for more from him. Another character

Gender Roles In Antigone
In Sophocles Antigone, gender roles is a major theme throughout the play. The play was written
during the ancient Greece era, around 442 B.C. As stated in Roles of Men and Women in Ancient
Greece , during these days, men were dominant and held all the power, so women were automatically
treated as less. Antigone and Creon portray the conflicting sides between male and female, and Ismene
and Haemon foils into Antigone and Creon s actions. Antigone, Ismene, Creon, and Haemon each
show differences in behavior due to their sex versus the actions each character chooses to take.
Antigone tells Ismene about her plans to bury their brother, Polynices, which is going against Creon s
orders. Antigone and Ismene have contrasting perspectives on the idea of morality vs. law. Ismene
argues that they shouldn t interfere with man s law. This did not stop Antigone and after she made her
decision, she was compared to a man for standing up for her beliefs and was ordered to death so that
Creon could prove his masculinity. Haemon takes up for Antigone by saying that rather than being
punished, she should be honored for taking the actions that she took. The problem with him taking up
for Antigone comes into play because he is first going against his father, Creon, as well as taking the
side of a woman over the side of a man. Sophocles accurately shows how much power women and
men hold by using these characters to symbolize the differences within their gender roles and how
power impacts the

Plagiarism Is More Effective Than Just Punishing Students
Later Draft
Scott Jaschik discusses various situations of plagiarism in college in his article, Winning Hearts and
Minds in War on Plagiarism, in order to argue that there are more efficient solutions to prevent
plagiarism. Jaschik published this article in Inside Higher Ed, which is an online news source, that he
cofounded, targeting first year English and college writing instructors. In the article, he explores
different ways of preventing plagiarism and emphasizes the importance of academic integrity. By
drawing on different instructor perspectives, he employs various situations such as an online student
discussion board and an assignment to purposely plagiarize in order to highlight common issues with
why students plagiarize. Jaschik ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there still was some unintentional plagiarizing, the open minded conversation between
Hagopian and her students was more beneficial and effective for the students because it taught them
the, difference between deliberate fraud and failed apprenticeship (Jaschik 262). This example
strengthens
Jaschik s idea by specifically illustrating how first year writing instructors being more open minded
towards plagiarism can be more beneficial for the students. Jaschik also describes another example
with Roy Stamper, an associate writing director, who followed an online student discussion board
where students discussed how they felt about plagiarizing which led
Stamper to discover that there was also a strong, intense reaction from other students much of it
critical (263). Jaschik uses this to illustrate how his lurking online raised many questions and whether,
an intense workload puts an emphasis for students on efficiency as opposed to quality (263 4). This
example also strengthens Jaschik s argument in that it appeals to the first year writing instructors by
giving insight on various students opinions on plagiarizing. This is effective to the instructors because
it allows them to learn some reasons why students plagiarize, such as being overloaded and not having
enough time. Even Stamper himself asks, Should writing instructors be looking to

Essay about The Pros and Cons of Welfare
Imagine you are standing in a grocery line, waiting patiently for your turn, watching the lady in front
of you put her cart full of name brand food on the counter. You are thinking, How is she going to pay
for all this stuff? Right then, she pulls out a book of stamps (not postage, either) and pays the cashier
one hundred and fifty dollars. With the fifty dollar bill she has stashed away in her wallet, the lady
then proceeds to buy two cartons of cigarettes and a magazine. Has this ever happened to you? Does it
anger you to know that your taxes are going to a welfare recipient who has more cash than you have
even seen in the past two weeks? If it does, then you are not alone.
Many people want the old system for welfare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This new welfare reform has helped to reduce recipients, but like all other plans, it has its
shortcomings.
On one hand, many people are coming off the rolls and finding jobs. But on the other hand, finding a
minimum wage job is not a ticket out of poverty. The chore of putting people off welfare and into the
work force can be difficult because welfare pays more than minimum wage, because there are no
incentives for a person to work, and because recipients are stuck in their lifestyle (Long 9). Also, the
task of decreasing recipients can be especially hard because cutting the line between who needs and
who does not need welfare could possibly leave deserving people without a penny in their pocket. For
example, West Virginia Women s Commission reports that in female headed households in which the
woman worked less than full time, 46 percent of families were below the poverty level ( ). These
statistics not only include women, but the children living in the household, too. Many citizens are also
concerned with children who may go malnourished if their parents loose benefits. This concern is
definitely justifiable. Alexandra Marks, of the Christian Science Monitor, reports that of the ten U.S.
counties with the highest concentrations of children living in poverty, four are in the Appalachian
Mountains. Specifically, McDowell County in West Virginia, is ranked fifth, with 60.4 percent of

Why Is Schindler s List Considered Historically Accurate
The historical movie I chose to write about was Schindler s List , directed by Steven Spielberg. This
movie is set during World War II and is a true story about Oskar Schindler, a Nazi businessman who
makes money off of Jews forced labourers and how he saved the lives of hundreds of Jews by
employing them in his factories where they would be safe from death. The movie shows a horrific
inside perspective of The Holocaust, and how cruel the Nazis truly were to the Jews, Polish, and all
who were affected by the Third Reich. It shows inside the forced labour camps, the Auschwitz
concentration camp, and the interaction the Nazis had with each other and everyone around them. It
displays the disgusting behavior and norms Nazi Germany had during that time, and how simple and
faultless it was to humiliate and slaughter the Jews whom had done nothing wrong. I thoroughly
enjoyed this movie because it truly pulled audience into the story it was telling, and captured the tone
of The Holocaust quite well. The story is true and the main characters, including Oskar Schindler,
Amon Göth, and Itzhak Stern are all actual people who had impacts during the Second World War,
though their dialogue and some motives were of course changed in ... Show more content on

be sent to concentration camps or labour camps. He also did well at the selection process, showing
how weaker looking Jews were sent to die and healthier looking ones lived. He also captured the
concentration camp scenes well, including how Jews were shaved, humiliated, and then rounded up in

The Pros And Cons Of Downsizing
For the purpose of the research, we would narrow down our discussion on one of the elements of the
employee relations, which is downsizing. Downsizing, also known as restructuring and rightsizing, is
the planned elimination of jobs in an organization. It is essentially the reverse of a company growing
and suggests a one time change in the organization and the number of people employed. (R.Wayne
Mondy, Robert M.Noe, Shane R. Premeaux, Judy Bandy Mondy) So, typically, downsizing will shrink
both the organization and the number of people in the organization. Downsizing does not always turn
a company around. This is because downsizing does not solve the fundamental causes of problems.
(R.Wayne Mondy, Robert M.Noe, Shane R. Premeaux, Judy Bandy Mondy) For instance, some
organizations have not developed an appropriate strategy for growth. They only focus on reducing
costs, but not solving the problem that leads to the downsizing decision. Besides, when one firm
downsizes, others in the same industry must also follow as they are competitive to each other.
(R.Wayne Mondy, Robert M.Noe, Shane R. Premeaux, Judy Bandy Mondy) Therefore, more and

Essay On Jewish Discrimination
The Discrimination of Jews
Between 1939 and 1945 Jews were greatly discriminated and affected by how their lives were about to
change. Jews were living a normal life until the German government began enforcing laws and
affecting all Jews. These examples explain how Jews were treated and hurt by people just because
they were Jewish. Jews were treated poorly before and during the Holocaust, and this made a big
impact on Jews today. First, there were many many laws that were implemented against Jews. Next,
the German government began to enforce social laws against Jews. Finally, the German government

Before the Holocaust, people began viewing Jews differently. The German government decided to
make camps for the Jews to keep them away from the other people in the community. These places
were called Jewish Ghettos, where the government placed all the Jews to live. The people in the
Ghettos were very upset with this change and one man said, We have entered into a new life, we are

Prosthetic Valve Endocarditis
We read with great interest the paper by Richard van Valen and his colleagues that evaluated patients
with prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) due to opportunistic bacterial pathogen Propionibacterium
acnes (P. acnes). The authors should be congratulated for publishing the largest single centre series to
date on the topic, as thus far the literature was dominated by single case reports. We would like to add
some thoughts on the microbiological aspects of PVE caused by this facultative anaerobic species.
Diagnosis of PVE caused by this microorganism is often delayed due to oligosymptomatic and
nonspecific presentation, hence microbiological confirmation is pivotal for adjusting treatment.
Unfortunately, aside for establishing positivity of blood and/or tissue cultures, there is no further
elaboration on the microbiological techniques employed to diagnose P. acnes in this study, probably
due to its retrospective design. It would also be interesting to know the incidence of neurologic
symptoms in this case series of 13 patients, as these are more commonly observed in P. acnes PVE

What Is Upton Sinclair s Attitude Towards The Meat Industry

it is not what the immigrants thought it would be like. Throughout the book, Sinclair uses may qoutes

sometimes, the men would fall into the vats that were floor level with everything else. This fits
dangerous working conditions because the vats were a problem being on the floor and people would

while walking to their jobs. Many people had to walk to the factories, but in the winter, sometimes it

Cognitive Enhancement, Cheating, and Accomplishment
ABSTRACT. An ethics of enhancement should not rest on blanket judgments; it should ask us to
distinguish between the kinds of activities we want to enhance. Both students and academics have
turned to cognition enhancing drugs in significant numbers but is their enhancement a form of
cheating? The answer should hinge on whether the activity subject to enhancement is zero sum or non
zero sum, and whether one is more concerned with excellence in process or excellence in outcome.
Cognitive enhancement should be especially tolerated when the activities at stake are non zero sum
and when the importance of process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I argue that the use of CEDs is especially beneficial, and should be especially tolerated, when the
activities at stake are non zero sum and when the importance of process is outweighed by the
importance of outcome. Finally, I criticize the claim that CEDs unnaturally cheapen human
accomplishments; instead, I consider their use to be in line with well established conceptions of
collaborative authorship, which shift the locus of praise and blame from individual creators to the
ultimate products of their efforts.
CHARACTERISTICS AND USE OF COgNITION ENHANCINg DRUgS
Among the most common CEDs are modafinil, methylphenidate, and dextroamphetamine, which are
available under the brand names Provigil, [ 146 ]

Ritalin, and Adderall, respectively. Although originally developed to treat diagnosed conditions
ranging from narcolepsy to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, their off label use has been
reported to increase users recall, attention span, and ability to focus on cognitive tasks; in addition,
modafinil has been shown to increase wakefulness (Butcher 2003; greely et al. 2008). Some CEDs
also seem to enhance users executive function, or problem solving ability (Mehlman 2004, p. 484).

Severe Anorexia Nervosa
Oftentimes, Anorexia Nervosa is classified as a psychological disorder and is not viewed as an
instigator of communication disorders. Besides the obvious negative consequences of eating disorders,
anorexia can cause an onset of dysphagia. Anorexia is a terrible disease and the annual death rate is
approximately 12 times higher than the death rate of all causes of death among females ages 15 to 24
(Holmes, Gudridge, Gaudiani, Mehler, 2012). Severe anorexia Nervosa encompasses a plethora of
medical complications that affects each body system and causes severe weakness (Holmes, Gudridge,

treatment and management of anorexia conditions. Veldee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The women were institutionalized in an acute medical center and experienced complications of
malnutrition and dysphagia (Holmes, Gudridge, Gaudiani, Mehler, 2012). To begin the study, the
women were subjected to a bedside swallow evaluation and video fluoroscopic studies (VFSS)
(Holmes, Gudridge, Gaudiani, Mehler, 2012). Two of the patients showed signs of mild to moderate
dysphagia and one demonstrated severe dysphagia (Holmes, Gudridge, Gaudiani, Mehler, 2012). Two
of the three also showed aspiration and the third showed penetration (Holmes, Gudridge, Gaudiani,
Mehler, 2012). Upon reviewing the findings, a SLP team was brought in to perform therapy via
NMES, along with swallowing therapy (Holmes, Gudridge, Gaudiani, Mehler, 2012). Swallowing
therapy tasks included compensatory strategies and strengthening exercises (Holmes, Gudridge,
Gaudiani, Mehler, 2012). The NMES device of choice in the study was the Vitals Stim Therapy Unit

consistencies: puree, thin, nectar thick, honey thick, mechanical soft and regular textures. Their results
were measured by using the Penetration Aspiration Scale that scores the passage and ejection of

attack: XSS has a big impact on different websites. The type of attacks that can be done using XSS has
a wide range. Using XSS an attacker can do the following things: 1) Hack User Accounts 2) Hack
Admin Accounts 3) Identity theft. Also, it is very difficult to track the origin of attack and to know that
an attack has happened. The attack can be found when the user contacts the site after the attack or if
the website occasionally checks for some miscellaneous code in their database. There are some
suggested ways to stop an XSS attack, below are some of them. Don t allow HTML tags: To make the

A Brief Look at Oscar Romero
Oscar Romero was an amazing man. Even though his life was cut short, he was able to make an
impact on the society that he lived in. Oscar Romero died a hero and an advocate for the people of El
Salvador, specifically the city of Agulaires. Leading up to his death, Romero s spiritual journey
evolved. Romero was elected Archbishop because few saw Romero as a threat. He was very
intelligent, and would hardly take his head out of a book. When Romero was elected he became good
friends with Rutilio Grande. Grande was a priest of Agularies. His mission was to help the poor. After
aggravating the government, Grande was killed, along with a young boy and an older man. This event
greatly affected Romero s spiritual journey. Romero stated,
I took off [Rutilio Grande s] socks, all soaked in blood. I helped prepare his body for burial. When I
heard the news, I felt as if I was being lifted into the air and suddenly dropped to the ground. I was so
bewildered I don t even know how I got to the church. And now I wonder how I was able to get
through everything that everything that happened that day. I loved him. That s why I kept a small
piece of cloth with his blood on it. (Page 26).
This passage is a critical moment in Romero s spiritual journey. He has seen the people of his city die,
but it was not personal. Losing someone so close to him, he changed his attitude for the remainder of
his life. Another important moment in Romero s spiritual journey was when he was kidnapped and

Second Language Learning Essay
My seminar provided an overview of chapter 4 explaining second language learning. During my
introduction, key points from each of the 5 perspectives were discussed. The cognitive perspective
was given priority as it contained many subcategories within itself. This section also allowed my
group mates to connect theory and practice of second language learning. My group mates were able to
connect to the noticing hypothesis, processability theory and the three principles of practice through
their own personal experiences while learning a second language. The first discussion question asked
my group members to evaluate their own understanding of how language learning occurs and compare
it with the perspectives we covered. The second discussion question provided them a chance to assess
each perspective and think of one weakness and one strength for each. Overall if I were to re do my
seminar, I would like to provide more attention to the other perspectives. I would add more discussion
questions in order to stimulate more in depth discussions. Similarly, adding supplemental information
from an outside source to further discussion and connect the theories to pedagogy. Additionally, I
would create an activity that focused more on teaching of a second language and how these theories
have influenced the current practices used.
In response to my discussion questions, my group member had an active discussion on their own
understanding of second language learning. Almost all group

Wernher Von Braun was a hero for trying to develop technology for the human exploration of space.

Wernher Von Braun worked on the V2 and at NASA. However, he didn t want to create weapons and
only at NASA was he able to research technology for human space exploration. One very strong piece
of evidence for Wernher Von Braun trying work on technology for human space exploration was the

Only knowing how to make ballistic missiles wouldn t work, the Saturn V was exponentially more
complicated than a ballistic missile. Later in his life, Von Braun was awarded the National Medal of
Science by president Ford. He also tried to help the public learn about and understand peaceful
spaceflight. He founded the National Space Institute in 1975. The purpose of this institute was to gain
public support and knowledge of spaceflight. All of this shows that Wernher Von Braun was dedicated
to researching technology for the peaceful exploration of spaceflight. His attempt in Germany and
work at NASA are the best examples of how dedicated he was to his work. He helped to create many
complex rockets. All of the rockets he created had a large effect on WWII and the space race.
Wernher Von Braun helped to create a lot of complex technology in his work in Germany and at
NASA that impacted WWII and the space race. Some examples of this technology are liquid fueled
plane takeoffs and landings. Of course, there is also the technology that had, and still has an extremely
large impact. Wernher Von Braun created the forerunner of all ballistic missiles, the A4. The missile
was later renamed Vengeance Weapon 2 by the propaganda minister of Germany. All later ballistic
missiles were based on the design of the V2. The V2 itself was a terrifying weapon. It killed 2000,
seriously injured 6000, and destroyed many buildings, and harmed infrastructure.

The French Nuclear Power Program
Nuclear Energy Nuclear energy provides France with most of its energy needs, about 80%. This type
of energy also emits almost no greenhouse gases, which is great for the Earth. France with this type of
energy meets its demand and even sells some energy for a profit in neighboring countries. Many
mistakes have been made in the production of energy using nuclear power plants, but if done right it
may be our future. Nuclear energy can be produced safely as shown in France in their French Nuclear
Power program (https//www.nuclearinfo.net). This program was launched in 1975 after the oil crisis
struck. Nuclear reactors are very complicated and can be dangerous unless they are safely managed.
The atom undergoes fission and it splits into smaller particles and releases energy. The incredible part
is that about 1 gram of Uranium produces as much energy as 3 tonnes coal which is 3000 kilograms.
With nuclear energy we would be wasting 3 million times less material compared to the other types of
energy sources like coal and other types of fossil fuels. This decreases the amount of waste produced
from manufacturing energy. There are different types of nuclear reactors and some of the common
ones are Pressurized Water Reactor, Boiling Water Reactor, High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor,
and Heavy Water Reactor. All of these types of reactors are all around world. The power plants have
factors such as control, safety, refueling, waste production and efficiency. To have control

Meadow Descriptive Writing
A crisp breeze bends, splits, and shifts the life around me as I slowly turn, taking in the wide, open
meadow. I am in a basin on a picturesque October morning under a soft, blue sky. The mountain is
remarkably bold, beautiful, yet, peaceful and right. Golden is the meadow with the yellow leaves
swaying on the branches casting their color above me and fallen leaves still vibrant; light swirls and
shines above and below. Some branches are bare as fall strips away summer. This meadow situated in
the basin of the San Francisco Peaks; a meadow with hay like grass drying from these bracing waves
of winds gives me goosebumps as I shiver my writing slants downwards and then juts up. There is an
underlying rattling from this grass all bending to the East from these gusts. Pine needles from the
Ponderosas are sprinkled on the ground and crunch under each step I take crunch, then scatter. I break
apart these pine needles and other debris, even some dry leaves from the aspens above.
A meadow with ponderosas, an incline with aspens, all situated on this vast mountain. The wind
touches all within its long reach from way up in the cloudless sky to the lowest it can extend, picking
up the dirt and blowing it back in my eyes as I write this under a swaying tree. Left then right, and
back again with each breeze it comes in waves: calm, a slight tickle as it brushes against me, then
slam, and calm again. The breeze sifts through the sand each particle blends into the next. The only

Essay on Condoms
Condoms
The word condom is probably derived from Latin condus meaning receptacle. Another explanation is
that the gut condom was invented by the English army doctor Colonel Quondam in around 1645 and
that the word is a corruption of his name. We do not know who invented condoms, but we do know
that they were in use. There is evidence of this in the writings of Marquis de Sade, Casanova and
James Boswell. The latter, a Scottish lawyer and writer, protected himself against sexually transmitted
diseases by using a linen condom. During a visit to an Amsterdam brothel in 1764, he drank with a
prostitute, but the encounter went no further as he d left his armour behind. When visiting a brothel in
Marseilles, Casanova tried so called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To prevent them slipping off, a ribbon on the open end of the condom was tied around the penis. The
sheaths made of bladder or gut could be used more than once; in contemporary paintings and prints,
they are some times seen hanging on a hook or a clothesline to dry.
Historians disagree about how condoms got their name. Some say a Dr. Condom supplied King
Charles II of England with animal tissue sheaths to keep him from fathering illegitimate children and
getting diseases from prostitutes. Others claim the word comes from a Dr. Condon or a Colonel
Cundum. It may be more likely that the word derives from the Latin Condon , meaning receptacle.
In the 18th century, the famous womanizer, Casanova, wore condoms made of linen. Rubber condoms
were mass produced after 1844, when Charles Goodyear patented the vulcanization of rubber, which
he invented five years earlier. Condoms made of sheep s intestines are still available. They are now
disposable and should only be used once. In the 1940s and 50s, they were washed, slathered in
petroleum jelly, and kept in little wooden boxes in a bedroom drawer but they weren t talked about in
front of the kids, anyway
What is a condom?
Condoms are a thin rubber tube, which fits over the man s erect penis before intercourse. When the
man ejaculates, he does so into the condom that prevents the sperm from entering the vagina. Most
condoms are made of latex and when coated with spermicide

The Pros And Cons Of The Plain Teght Doctrine
The plain view doctrine is an exception to the search warrant requirements that allows police officers
to seize evidence, without a search warrant, that they recognize as contraband or used in a criminal
activity that is seen in plain view without having to enter the property or perform a search. In addition,
a corollary to the plain sight doctrine is the plain smell doctrine, that allows if an officer smells
evidence (e.g. marijuana), the officer meets the probable cause requirement to initiate a warrantless
search (Lemons, n.d.). For example, an officer pulls over to assist a stranded motorist and observes in
the front console of the vehicle a large bag of pills. This meets the probable cause requirement for the
officer to perform a search of the vehicle. There are three main requirements which must be satisfied
in order for the plain sight exception to be valid. Based on Horton v. California, 496 U.S. 128 (1990)
the first requirement is the police officer must have a lawful presence in the area where the evidence
was observed, which does not violate the Fourth Amendment constitutional guaranty. The second
requirement is the officer must be able to observe the evidence by plain view or smell. Finally, the
third requirement is the officer must immediately recognize the evidence or contraband, which was
accidental or inadvertent, without making any further intrusion (Ryan, 2017). When evidence is found
initially during or a s consequence of an illegal search or

Everyman Play Analysis
Til Death Do Us Part Symbols can be found everywhere we look, from the grocery store, to a
company logo, or even in literature. In literature, symbols are usually reoccurring and are usually used
to define something else. In Everyman, a play written to show the death of people, Everyman goes on
a journey to find anyone who is willing to be his companion on his journey to death. He asks many
other characters, who are symbols of his life, to come with him, but he slowly finds out that they will
not go with him. In Everyman, Death is a symbol that reveals the true nature of all the other character
that Everyman talks to and emphasizes the story s theme. In the beginning, Everyman finds out that
his friends and family are not what they appear to be. Fellowship and Kindred are characters that
represent Everyman s friends and family, and although they say they ll support ... Show more content

promised to stay with him through the journey. Nay, Everyman, I will abide with thee, I will not

the only character who doesn t forsake him, keeps her promise to stay with him through his journey.
Death exposes the true nature of all characters that Everyman asks to come along with him on his

they will still forsake Everyman. Death helps Everyman weed out all the characters that will betray
him and leaves him with the only one who keeps their promise, Good

substantially not as sensitive to the perception of emotions displayed by others, when compared to
domestic abuse offenders. In the study conducted by Puglia, Stough, Carter, and Joseph (2005), they

The participants were asked to do three subtests from the MSCEIT, which consisted of 35 items. The
first subtest is the perception branch, in which the subjects were to express, on a five point scale, the
emotion that is being presented in different photographs such as faces, landscapes, or an abstract
design. The second subtest is the assimilation branch. In this subtest, the participants were asked to
associate words to a given emotion and indicate the similarities of the word and the emotions; An
example is, cold, blue, sweet. The last subtest is the management branch. In this subtest, the subjects
were asked to indicate the effectiveness of an action would be in managing their internal emotions.
With this method, it is revealed that the results of the sex offenders are not that significantly different
in comparison to the control group. As a way of contrast, these findings did not yield the same
conclusion that Hudson et al., (1993) suggested. The results from the MSCEIT assessment did not
display the deficit of emotional function of sexual offenders. Furthermore, this study helps support the
suggestion that the emotional deficiency the sexual offenders have are more likely to be specific to the
sexual offences they have committed (Fernandez et al.,

Domino Theory, and The Spread of Communism Communism, as defined by Dictionary.com, a theory
or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership
being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state. In the time leading up to the actual start of
the Vietnam War, America was going through what is known as the Second Red Scare, which is the
fear of a communist America. Many americans fear of communism also led them to look towards

Death and Dying Project
Every culture has their own way to deal with the dying and dead. Some like to bury their dead, some
will cremate, and others will just leave the body in the open. Every culture has their own special and
specific way to do things. Some might mourn and others will celebrate.
In Vietnam when a person is about to die family comes and visits, this is the moment of silence. The
olds son or daughter would then bend over to hear the persons last dying words. At this time the oldest
member of the family would then suggest a new name for the person, because it is bad luck to keep

The funeral would normally be held three days after the person had died. On the day of the funeral,
friends and family would have a memorial dinner. Then, on the ninth day, when the soul is believed to
leave the body, a special church service and dinner are held. Fourteen days after the person has died,
the soul is said to depart for the other world, and a service and dinner party are again held. At every
one of these parties, a glass of vodka covered by a piece of black bread is left for the deceased. This
would be the opposite of the traditional Russian custom of breaking black bread when meeting
someone for the first time. Traditionally the person s body would lay untouched and uncovered for the
three days until the burial; however, cremations are becoming more popular because of how
inexpensive they are.
People would wear weeds, or drab clothing in black, to prevent the dead from returning. Covering the
head in a black kerchief and wearing black continues for 40 days after the death. People also cover
mirrors, stop watches, and take the TV from the room where the body lies in wait. When the body is
carried to be buried its carried with its legs extended forward and done so that no part of the body
touches the house on its way out, because of the fear that the dead will return to their home and take
someone with them.

Lifespan Developmental Theory
The life span developmental theory is a framework that provides information and helps others to
understand how humans age over their life course. Humans begin aging at the start of infancy.
Therefore, every day the body grows older. It is essential for humans to maintain good health to
prolong their years of life. The purpose of the theory is to view and explain different factors on why
humans age (Encyclopedia, 2017). 2.The principle of human agency states that individuals have
control over their life and well being. The principle also states that individuals have the power within
to achieve any goal that he/she sets for themselves. Meaning, if a person is not happy with their

The impact of experiences on the life course depends on the timing. The choices, decisions, and
actions that were taken early on has the potential to make the present and future better. The principle
states the time of the individual meaning their age is significant. A lot of individuals tend to wait until
they are up in age to make the decisions that they possibly could have made when they were younger.
Individuals experience many things as their life course expands. Also, what they have experienced can
remind them on what they have learned, and how do they feel about their life after those things have

The Tort Of Negligence By Percy L Winfield
In order to establish a claim in the tort of negligence, according to Percy H Winfield[1] Tortious
liability arises from the breach of a duty primarily fixed by the law: such duty is towards persons
generally and its breach is redressible by an action for liquidated damages . It is for Grace as the
claimant where falls the burden of proof, to demonstrate that the negligence of her physical injury was
due to the tortious liability of the Police, Ambulance Service, CURO and the Heath Authority as the
defendants in order to claim damages. Furthermore will look at whether tortious liability can arise
towards Brian as an occupier for his negligence which resulted in the firemen s deaths.
In negligence the defendant is only liable when they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise police had no duty to arrive sooner after Brian made the call in order to respond to the
potential threat of an intruder.
In comparison to Police and fire services, Lord Woolf suggested in Kent v Griffiths[9] arguments
based on public policy are much weaker in the case of ambulance service than they are in the case of
police or the fire service . Leading case which portrays the duty of care for the ambulance services
towards a patient in their care, as they accepted the claimants call they become a patient which means
they have a duty to them at that moment. Although ambulance owes a duty of care towards Grace
needs to determine if delay was breach of failure to take reasonable care. In the judgment Mr Justice
Turner said: In the absence of any reasonable excuse for this delay I am driven to conclude that the
delay was culpable breached duty as no reasonable excuse for the delay. However from Lord Woolf s
judgement also in kent:[10] ... resources, whether in the provision of sufficient drivers or attendants,
different situations would apply . The ambulance has no duty if not enough resources at their disposal
during accident, due to high demand for ambulances at that time during Grace s accident means that
they are not liable. A precedent establishing dual duty of care towards hospital

Raisin In The Sun Relevant
The play A Raisin in the Sun is still relevant. There are still people who have dreams that are yet to
come true. As long as their are people who dream, there will be relevance in a play like A Raisin in the
Sun. Today, there are people who still live in poverty. They still have nothing but dreams. They
struggle to survive in the dog eat dog world in which we live. No doubt, there is still racism. Although
we have come a long way, there are still racist people in the world. There are still people who have

HAPPINESS
One with a well developed personality is of course a happy person. As the result of social, physical,

Luck
What man believes and does determine the results he gets! But some may say, That may be very good
theory but it doesn t work out in actual life. I ve always done the best I could but things don t go right
for me. I m not one of the lucky ones!
The Basic Ideas of Science of Mind, pg. 65
You are one of the lucky ones, even if you were betting on a different outcome. There is no reason to
deny the existence of luck, chance, randomness and possibility in our infinite universe. There is good
reason to not rely on it, bet on it, blame it for our failures or attribute our success to luck. Luck is not
the hand of fate or any such controlling influence in life. Luck is not a force to be reckoned with, or a
power that controls events. Luck refers to our experience of an infinite universe that is beyond our
control. We call it good luck when we benefit and bad luck when we do not, but we are only talking
about whether or not we benefit from the way it is; and that is a matter of our ability to appreciate,
plan, and choose wisely or not. Do not attribute success or failure to luck. Do not think of luck as an
agent, or agency, or controlling factor in the game we play. It is not. Luck is involved wherever and
whenever there is more than one possible

Summary Of The Federalist Papers
The Federalist Papers are a collection of 85 essays and articles written by three of the most prominent
men in early United States history: Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay. All of these
essays were written to try to ratify the United States Constitution. Seventy seven were published
serially in The Independent Journal and The New York Packet between October 1787 and August
1788. A compilation of these and eight others, called The Federalist; or, The New Constitution, was
published in two volumes in 1788 by J. and A. McLean. The collection s original title was The
Federalist; the title The Federalist Papers did not emerge until the 20th century.

Federalist No. 10, in which Madison discusses the means of preventing rule by majority faction and
advocates a large, commercial republic, is generally regarded as the most important of the 85 articles
from a philosophical perspective; it is complemented by Federalist No. 14, in which Madison takes the
measure of the United States, declares it appropriate for an extended republic, and concludes with a
memorable defense of the constitutional and political creativity of the Federal Convention.[3] In
Federalist No. 84, Hamilton makes the case that there is no need to amend the Constitution by adding
a Bill of Rights, insisting that the various provisions in the proposed Constitution protecting liberty
amount to a bill of rights . Federalist No. 78, also written by Hamilton, lays the groundwork for the
doctrine of judicial review by federal courts of federal legislation or executive acts. Federalist No. 70
presents Hamilton s case for a one man chief executive. In Federalist No. 39, Madison presents the
clearest exposition of what has come to be called Federalism . In Federalist No. 51, Madison distills
arguments for checks and balances in an essay often quoted for its justification of government as the
greatest of all reflections on human

Research Paper On Violence In Sports
Violence is defined as the use of excessive physical force, which causes or has obvious potential to
cause harm or destruction to an individual. Violence in sports comes in many forms, and divides into
social and cultural factors related to the sport ethic, gender ideology, the dynamics of social class and
race, and the tactics used in sports. Violence in sports has gone too far because sports violence has
become so severe in sports, that players are injured each years. However, in sports some violence has
become entertaining for the fans and fans would begin their own violence around with other fans that
support opposing teams to win. The violence in sports can cause severe casualties from collisions to
concussions that may result in long term mental or physical damage.
There are many casualties of violence and collisions/concussions in professional sports. The first
common type of violence is body contact. The brutal body contact includes physical practices
common in certain sports and accepted by athletes as part of sport participation. Examples of brutal
body contacts in sports are collisions, hits, tackles, blocks, body checks, and other forms of physical
contact that can produce injuries. In the NHL a hockey player on ... Show more content on

The fan taunts during games and players expect to ignore taunts. However, the following example is
completely opposite. The players did not ignore when the fan taunted. In a basketball game during the
2005 NBA season, there were three NBA players on the Indiana Pacers who fought with the fans
during a game with the Detroit Pistons, after a fan hit a player with a cup of alcoholic beverage and ice
had thrown from the stands. The fans are being interactive towards the fans and the fans should not
disrespect athletes because the athletes achieve as they play games and the fans do not achieve
anything at all except just watching the game

Hippocampus Amnesia Effects
Abstract
This paper explores two published journals that report on results from research conducted on human
brain. The first journal, Parkin, Alan J (Parkin,1996) suggests that brain damaged patients such as
amnesia are related to the hippocampus and also existing memories. The second journal from Deborah
E. Hannula (Hannula, Tranel, Cohen, 2006) suggests that hippocampal amnesia results in both short
term and long term memory. Together, these findings suggest that hippocampal damage can affect the
memory.
Key words: memory; amnesia; hippocampus; relational memory; long term memory; short term
memory; human

Hannula s research is based on, memory for different kinds of relations (i.e., spatial and nonspatial
relations) is tested with different paradigms under long and short lag conditions (Hannula, 2014).
Hannula also showed detailed information about the experiments such as stimuli design, procedure,
and statistical analyses. Hannula describe the history and condition of the participants that was
involved in the experiment. Participants in both experiments were six patients (three male, three
female) with amnesia, and six neurologically intact comparison participants, each matched to one of
the patients individually with respect to age, education, and intelligence quotient (Hannula, 2014). The
method that was used in the first experiment is eye movement methodology. The eye movement
methodology to explore the status of relational memory representations that are to be maintained over
the course of a very brief delay in work involving presentation of scenes that were exact matches or

The Equal Pay Act Of 1963 ( Epa ) And Title Vii Of The...
An egalitarian is someone who believes that not only should women be equal to men, but everyone
should be equal to everyone and the only thing that separates us is our merits and the things that we
have worked to achieve in life. That is why I am and always will be an egalitarian.
When it comes to any kind of a pay gap, I refer you to Fortune.com article, Here s What it Takes to
Sue For Gender Pay Discrimination and Win, which stated Pay discrimination based on sex has long
been illegal. Both the Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA) and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
prohibit paying someone less for the same work because of gender. The article later goes on to detail
how to go about the legal process and what evidence is required in order to win your case, and what
things to be wary of when pursuing legal action. So if you feel that you are being paid less than a
coworker based on race, sex, orientation, or anything else that would be defined as discrimination
under the law, I urge you to seek out legal counsel and bring your employer to justice for the crime
they are committing.
If you feel you were passed up for a promotion on the basis of nothing other than gender or sex than
you can seek out legal counsel as according to the United States Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission It is illegal for an employer to make decisions about job assignments and promotions
based on an employee s race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual

The Influences of Mass Media on Health Trends
The mass media consists of many sources of communication such as newspapers, magazines,
television and radio, amongst other media outlets, of which are used to inform, educate, influence, and
entertain an audience. These forms of communication help construct a person s perception because the
media use platforms to influence opinion, of which is made possible due to how the media
organisations use their resources. The modern media are able to change people s perspectives by
introducing them to modern knowledge. In particular, the media has a great influence on health trends,
due to them being the main source of information to the public, and therefore they have a greater
responsibility to present the facts because irresponsible reporting can result in consequences, such as
widespread moral panic, financial failure for businesses and may potentially be life threatening.
Evidence to support this statement comes from the increase of the term obesity epidemic used by the
media, in particular The New York Times, of whom covered this throughout 751 reports between 1990
and 2001. The obesity epidemic caused a moral panic amongst the public because the media defined it
as a social issue due to the news story being less significant to theme. The information presented is
influential to the public as it shapes their perception towards obesity. However, the media tend to
portray overweight individuals negatively, of which reinforces stigma and ultimately results in the

Immigration
Immigration is a topic that has been in the news often due to the most recent Presidential election.
However, the idea of immigration is one that has existed since the Old Testament with stories of
refugees fleeing from oppression. Immigration is an ideal that has remained a topic of discussion for
years due to the positives and negatives of it. While immigration may have some negatives, it is my
view that immigration is a necessity for the United States because of its roots in Catholic social
teaching, effects on economy, and the need for basic rights of individuals to obtain a better life. When
dealing with immigration one must not just view it as an economic factor but must understand that
immigration is an issue within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Catholic bishops further their explanation of the freedom to move lands when they reference that
ownership or duration have no privilege in regard to who s land is who s. The Bishops state that, the
native does not have superior rights over the immigrant. Before God all are equal; the earth was given
by God to all. When a person cannot achieve a meaningful life in his or her own land, that person has
the right to move (Catholic Bishops).
The next principle touched upon is the right of a country to regulate its boarders and control
immigration. This principle is grounded in the belief that people have the right to move but no country
is bound by anything to accept those that want to resettle there. This principle also brings to light the
reasons for immigrants fleeing which is normally for somber reasons as they are fleeing from an
unsafe place. This illustrates that many immigrants are coming from a bad situation which is not
looked highly upon in Catholic social teaching as it goes against the common good to have bad areas .
The Catholic Bishops comment on the idea of immigration as a whole explaining that, catholic social
teaching is realistic: While people have the right to move, no country has the duty to receive so many
immigrants that its social and economic life are jeopardized . The final principle brings together
principles one and two, which tend to contradict one another. Principle three states that a country must
regulate it s borders with

  • 2. A Genuineness in Humans Individuals like the feeling that they belong. Sometimes people believe they are alone in the world and no one else faces similar issues. Susan Morgan starts her literacy criticism by talking about Elizabeth Bennet s character. She mentions that Elizabeth is flawed which is why she is well liked by readers. Her flaws show the genuineness of her character and allow readers to make a connection to her. The connection is easily made because the way that Austen created Elizabeth made her appear to be a real person. Elizabeth is often boldly rude and disrespectful, yet at the same time she is self confident and an independent young woman. Rather than a perfect character in a perfect world, Elizabeth is realistic as she is an imperfect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elizabeth puts up a front to protect herself from Darcy whom she believes is inferior, a man of sense and education who has lived in the world, and is ill qualified to recommend himself to strangers (Morgan 56). Elizabeth s mistake of impertinence toward Darcy is forgiven. Elizabeth s mistakes are not based on a rejection of society even though it is quite true that they are related to her sense of personal freedom. What we are to understand by that freedom is not the right to do and say whatever she wants in defiance of social conventions. Rather, it is a freedom from becoming involved (Morgan 57). Elizabeth does not want to make a commitment or become involved with anyone, which is one reason she judges Darcy harshly and attempts to push him away. Even when Elizabeth seems to be attracted to Wickham, she really is not. Elizabeth s heart is not engaged by Mr. Wickham, her understanding is. Her opinion of him is based on her belief in her own discernment and her separation through intelligence from an essentially ugly world (Morgan 57). Elizabeth observes society closely and understands that the world is an ugly place, making her understanding of Wickham s character even as she does not know anytthing about him. She deceives herself in thinking she likes him, but lacks serious feelings for him as she likes the idea of him, but not the commitment she would need to make to him. It seems that ... • 3. Michael Pollan Leadership Introduction: Leaders are motivators, innovators, and passionate individuals. Through their hard work and personality, leaders are able to set goals for themselves to create positive change both on their own and with others. Michael Pollan, an author, food activist, journalist and professor at UC Berkeley, demonstrates and actively practices key leadership skills that I find both inspiring and thoughtful. His system thinking approach to his own personal learning, to leading others, and his approach to health promotion is what makes him an exemplary leader that Kouzes and Posner would approve of. Our food system, agricultural system, and healthcare system involve many stakeholders which make any amount of positive change very difficult to accomplish, but this does not stop Michael Pollan from pursuing and envisioning a more sustainable way of living for all people. When he first began his work of health promotion it was during a time of food confusion and a national health crisis. He seized that moment and 25 years later his passion and purpose for his work is still evident. He continues to try and help others understand the connection between our health, the health of our nation, and the health of the environment. He supports the development of new farm policies that support local farmers rather than large industries such as the sugar industry. He also encourages people to think about how their daily lives of consumerism perpetuate our reliance on fossil fuels and the consequences that has on our environment (Oke, 2016). The Asian Journal Of Social Psychology Learned Behavior Learned behavior can often be compared with social learning because they both deal with the individual being affected by observing their environment. Early theories of learned behavior and social learning states humans and other organisms can in fact learn new behaviors from others they encounter in social environments (Escobar, 2008). The Asian Journal of Social Psychology provides important view into the psychology of Indonesian Islamic terrorism, focusing on the Bali Bombings of 2002. The Bali Bombings consisted of a car bomb exploding outside the Sari nightclub in Bali, a popular tourist island in Indonesia. The attack was the worst terrorist incident in the history of Indonesia, with 202 civilians dead and more than 100 wounded (Pike, 2011). Two other bombs occurred including a backpack device that a suicide bomber was carrying, and a much smaller bomb detonated outside the United States. The three brothers from Tengguin responsible for the bombings are named Ali Ghufron, Amrozi and Ali Imron. Ghufron is the oldest in the family and served as the role model for his younger brothers. The men responsible for these terrorist attacks in 2002 were raised in environments that provide socialization processes in which Islamic values are established as guidelines for daily life, including the family environment (Kruglanski, 2013). The pigs use their superior knowledge to manipulate the lower animals, and the lower animals do not rebel against the pigs or recognize they are being controlled. The play was directed by Tom Gleadow. Our Town was performed at the Casino Theatre in Newport, RI. The show I saw was performed on the eleventh of February. The play was separated by three acts; Daily Life, Love and Marriage, and Death and Dying. Within the first act you see how the town functions and the characters routine. The second act shows the marriage of the two main characters. We get the see the ceremony and how the people in town felt about it. In the third and final act you are placed in the local cemetery with the characters that have passed on. The moral of the story is only revealed and very prevalent at the end; the whole play was based on the idea of taking things for granted while we are alive. I really enjoyed the basic story line, it was easy to understand and follow. I liked it because it becomes an eye opener because as people we tend to take things for granted until they are gone. The two main characters in Our Town are George Gibbs, Kenny Bennell, and Emily Webb, Laura Jedynasty. In my opinion Laura did a fantastic job at portraying Emily. Her acting was very believable especially in the last act where she had to cry. I think Kenny did a great job with George as well. • 11. Gender Roles In Antigone In Sophocles Antigone, gender roles is a major theme throughout the play. The play was written during the ancient Greece era, around 442 B.C. As stated in Roles of Men and Women in Ancient Greece , during these days, men were dominant and held all the power, so women were automatically treated as less. Antigone and Creon portray the conflicting sides between male and female, and Ismene and Haemon foils into Antigone and Creon s actions. Antigone, Ismene, Creon, and Haemon each show differences in behavior due to their sex versus the actions each character chooses to take. Antigone tells Ismene about her plans to bury their brother, Polynices, which is going against Creon s orders. Antigone and Ismene have contrasting perspectives on the idea of morality vs. law. Ismene argues that they shouldn t interfere with man s law. This did not stop Antigone and after she made her decision, she was compared to a man for standing up for her beliefs and was ordered to death so that Creon could prove his masculinity. Haemon takes up for Antigone by saying that rather than being punished, she should be honored for taking the actions that she took. The problem with him taking up for Antigone comes into play because he is first going against his father, Creon, as well as taking the side of a woman over the side of a man. Sophocles accurately shows how much power women and men hold by using these characters to symbolize the differences within their gender roles and how power impacts the ... Plagiarism Is More Effective Than Just Punishing Students Later Draft Scott Jaschik discusses various situations of plagiarism in college in his article, Winning Hearts and Minds in War on Plagiarism, in order to argue that there are more efficient solutions to prevent plagiarism. Jaschik published this article in Inside Higher Ed, which is an online news source, that he cofounded, targeting first year English and college writing instructors. In the article, he explores different ways of preventing plagiarism and emphasizes the importance of academic integrity. Although there still was some unintentional plagiarizing, the open minded conversation between Hagopian and her students was more beneficial and effective for the students because it taught them the, difference between deliberate fraud and failed apprenticeship (Jaschik 262). This example strengthens Jaschik s idea by specifically illustrating how first year writing instructors being more open minded towards plagiarism can be more beneficial for the students. Jaschik also describes another example with Roy Stamper, an associate writing director, who followed an online student discussion board where students discussed how they felt about plagiarizing which led Stamper to discover that there was also a strong, intense reaction from other students much of it critical (263). Jaschik uses this to illustrate how his lurking online raised many questions and whether, an intense workload puts an emphasis for students on efficiency as opposed to quality (263 4). This example also strengthens Jaschik s argument in that it appeals to the first year writing instructors by giving insight on various students opinions on plagiarizing. This is effective to the instructors because it allows them to learn some reasons why students plagiarize, such as being overloaded and not having enough time. You are thinking, How is she going to pay for all this stuff? Right then, she pulls out a book of stamps (not postage, either) and pays the cashier one hundred and fifty dollars. With the fifty dollar bill she has stashed away in her wallet, the lady then proceeds to buy two cartons of cigarettes and a magazine. Has this ever happened to you? Many people want the old system for welfare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This new welfare reform has helped to reduce recipients, but like all other plans, it has its shortcomings. On one hand, many people are coming off the rolls and finding jobs. But on the other hand, finding a minimum wage job is not a ticket out of poverty. The chore of putting people off welfare and into the work force can be difficult because welfare pays more than minimum wage, because there are no incentives for a person to work, and because recipients are stuck in their lifestyle (Long 9). Also, the task of decreasing recipients can be especially hard because cutting the line between who needs and who does not need welfare could possibly leave deserving people without a penny in their pocket. For example, West Virginia Women s Commission reports that in female headed households in which the woman worked less than full time, 46 percent of families were below the poverty level ( ). These statistics not only include women, but the children living in the household, too. Many citizens are also concerned with children who may go malnourished if their parents loose benefits. This concern is definitely justifiable. This movie is set during World War II and is a true story about Oskar Schindler, a Nazi businessman who makes money off of Jews forced labourers and how he saved the lives of hundreds of Jews by employing them in his factories where they would be safe from death. The movie shows a horrific inside perspective of The Holocaust, and how cruel the Nazis truly were to the Jews, Polish, and all who were affected by the Third Reich. It shows inside the forced labour camps, the Auschwitz concentration camp, and the interaction the Nazis had with each other and everyone around them. It displays the disgusting behavior and norms Nazi Germany had during that time, and how simple and faultless it was to humiliate and slaughter the Jews whom had done nothing wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie because it truly pulled audience into the story it was telling, and captured the tone of The Holocaust quite well. • 15. The Pros And Cons Of Downsizing For the purpose of the research, we would narrow down our discussion on one of the elements of the employee relations, which is downsizing. Downsizing, also known as restructuring and rightsizing, is the planned elimination of jobs in an organization. It is essentially the reverse of a company growing and suggests a one time change in the organization and the number of people employed. (R.Wayne Mondy, Robert M.Noe, Shane R. Premeaux, Judy Bandy Mondy) So, typically, downsizing will shrink both the organization and the number of people in the organization. Downsizing does not always turn a company around. This is because downsizing does not solve the fundamental causes of problems. (R.Wayne Mondy, Robert M.Noe, Shane R. Premeaux, Judy Bandy Mondy) For instance, some organizations have not developed an appropriate strategy for growth. They only focus on reducing costs, but not solving the problem that leads to the downsizing decision. Besides, when one firm downsizes, others in the same industry must also follow as they are competitive to each other. (R.Wayne Mondy, Robert M.Noe, Shane R. • 18. Prosthetic Valve Endocarditis We read with great interest the paper by Richard van Valen and his colleagues that evaluated patients with prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) due to opportunistic bacterial pathogen Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). The authors should be congratulated for publishing the largest single centre series to date on the topic, as thus far the literature was dominated by single case reports. We would like to add some thoughts on the microbiological aspects of PVE caused by this facultative anaerobic species. Diagnosis of PVE caused by this microorganism is often delayed due to oligosymptomatic and nonspecific presentation, hence microbiological confirmation is pivotal for adjusting treatment. Unfortunately, aside for establishing positivity of blood and/or tissue cultures, there is no further elaboration on the microbiological techniques employed to diagnose P. acnes in this study, probably due to its retrospective design. It would also be interesting to know the incidence of neurologic symptoms in this case series of 13 patients, as these are more commonly observed in P. acnes PVE than in any other type of infective endocarditis (x). ... Many people had to walk to the factories, but in the winter, sometimes it would get to negative twenty degrees with one or two feet of snow on the ground. An ethics of enhancement should not rest on blanket judgments; it should ask us to distinguish between the kinds of activities we want to enhance. Both students and academics have turned to cognition enhancing drugs in significant numbers but is their enhancement a form of cheating? The answer should hinge on whether the activity subject to enhancement is zero sum or non zero sum, and whether one is more concerned with excellence in process or excellence in outcome. This section also allowed my group mates to connect theory and practice of second language learning. My group mates were able to connect to the noticing hypothesis, processability theory and the three principles of practice through their own personal experiences while learning a second language. The first discussion question asked my group members to evaluate their own understanding of how language learning occurs and compare it with the perspectives we covered. This type of energy also emits almost no greenhouse gases, which is great for the Earth. France with this type of energy meets its demand and even sells some energy for a profit in neighboring countries. Many mistakes have been made in the production of energy using nuclear power plants, but if done right it may be our future. Nuclear energy can be produced safely as shown in France in their French Nuclear Power program (https//www.nuclearinfo.net). This program was launched in 1975 after the oil crisis struck. Nuclear reactors are very complicated and can be dangerous unless they are safely managed. The atom undergoes fission and it splits into smaller particles and releases energy. The incredible part is that about 1 gram of Uranium produces as much energy as 3 tonnes coal which is 3000 kilograms. With nuclear energy we would be wasting 3 million times less material compared to the other types of energy sources like coal and other types of fossil fuels. This decreases the amount of waste produced from manufacturing energy. There are different types of nuclear reactors and some of the common ones are Pressurized Water Reactor, Boiling Water Reactor, High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor, and Heavy Water Reactor. Another explanation is that the gut condom was invented by the English army doctor Colonel Quondam in around 1645 and that the word is a corruption of his name. We do not know who invented condoms, but we do know that they were in use. There is evidence of this in the writings of Marquis de Sade, Casanova and James Boswell. The latter, a Scottish lawyer and writer, protected himself against sexually transmitted diseases by using a linen condom. To prevent them slipping off, a ribbon on the open end of the condom was tied around the penis. The sheaths made of bladder or gut could be used more than once; in contemporary paintings and prints, they are some times seen hanging on a hook or a clothesline to dry. Historians disagree about how condoms got their name. Some say a Dr. Condom supplied King Charles II of England with animal tissue sheaths to keep him from fathering illegitimate children and getting diseases from prostitutes. Others claim the word comes from a Dr. Condon or a Colonel Cundum. It may be more likely that the word derives from the Latin Condon , meaning receptacle. In the 18th century, the famous womanizer, Casanova, wore condoms made of linen. Rubber condoms were mass produced after 1844, when Charles Goodyear patented the vulcanization of rubber, which he invented five years earlier. Condoms made of sheep s intestines are still available. The Pros And Cons Of The Plain Teght Doctrine The plain view doctrine is an exception to the search warrant requirements that allows police officers to seize evidence, without a search warrant, that they recognize as contraband or used in a criminal activity that is seen in plain view without having to enter the property or perform a search. In addition, a corollary to the plain sight doctrine is the plain smell doctrine, that allows if an officer smells evidence (e.g. marijuana), the officer meets the probable cause requirement to initiate a warrantless search (Lemons, n.d.). For example, an officer pulls over to assist a stranded motorist and observes in the front console of the vehicle a large bag of pills. This meets the probable cause requirement for the officer to perform a search of the vehicle. There are three main requirements which must be satisfied in order for the plain sight exception to be valid. Based on Horton v. California, 496 U.S. 128 (1990) the first requirement is the police officer must have a lawful presence in the area where the evidence was observed, which does not violate the Fourth Amendment constitutional guaranty. The second requirement is the officer must be able to observe the evidence by plain view or smell. Finally, the third requirement is the officer must immediately recognize the evidence or contraband, which was accidental or inadvertent, without making any further intrusion (Ryan, 2017). The Tort Of Negligence By Percy L Winfield In order to establish a claim in the tort of negligence, according to Percy H Winfield[1] Tortious liability arises from the breach of a duty primarily fixed by the law: such duty is towards persons generally and its breach is redressible by an action for liquidated damages . It is for Grace as the claimant where falls the burden of proof, to demonstrate that the negligence of her physical injury was due to the tortious liability of the Police, Ambulance Service, CURO and the Heath Authority as the defendants in order to claim damages. The Basic Ideas of Science of Mind, pg. 65 You are one of the lucky ones, even if you were betting on a different outcome. There is no reason to deny the existence of luck, chance, randomness and possibility in our infinite universe. There is good reason to not rely on it, bet on it, blame it for our failures or attribute our success to luck. Luck is not the hand of fate or any such controlling influence in life. Luck is not a force to be reckoned with, or a power that controls events. Luck refers to our experience of an infinite universe that is beyond our control. We call it good luck when we benefit and bad luck when we do not, but we are only talking about whether or not we benefit from the way it is; and that is a matter of our ability to appreciate, plan, and choose wisely or not. Do not attribute success or failure to luck. Do not think of luck as an agent, or agency, or controlling factor in the game we play. It is not. Federalist No. 10, in which Madison discusses the means of preventing rule by majority faction and advocates a large, commercial republic, is generally regarded as the most important of the 85 articles from a philosophical perspective; it is complemented by Federalist No. 14, in which Madison takes the measure of the United States, declares it appropriate for an extended republic, and concludes with a memorable defense of the constitutional and political creativity of the Federal Convention.[3] In Federalist No. 84, Hamilton makes the case that there is no need to amend the Constitution by adding a Bill of Rights, insisting that the various provisions in the proposed Constitution protecting liberty amount to a bill of rights . Federalist No. 78, also written by Hamilton, lays the groundwork for the doctrine of judicial review by federal courts of federal legislation or executive acts. Federalist No. 70 presents Hamilton s case for a one man chief executive. In Federalist No. 39, Madison presents the clearest exposition of what has come to be called Federalism . Violence in sports comes in many forms, and divides into social and cultural factors related to the sport ethic, gender ideology, the dynamics of social class and race, and the tactics used in sports. Violence in sports has gone too far because sports violence has become so severe in sports, that players are injured each years. However, in sports some violence has become entertaining for the fans and fans would begin their own violence around with other fans that support opposing teams to win. The violence in sports can cause severe casualties from collisions to concussions that may result in long term mental or physical damage. There are many casualties of violence and collisions/concussions in professional sports. The first common type of violence is body contact. The first journal, Parkin, Alan J (Parkin,1996) suggests that brain damaged patients such as amnesia are related to the hippocampus and also existing memories. The second journal from Deborah E. Hannula (Hannula, Tranel, Cohen, 2006) suggests that hippocampal amnesia results in both short term and long term memory. Together, these findings suggest that hippocampal damage can affect the memory. An egalitarian is someone who believes that not only should women be equal to men, but everyone should be equal to everyone and the only thing that separates us is our merits and the things that we have worked to achieve in life. That is why I am and always will be an egalitarian. When it comes to any kind of a pay gap, I refer you to Fortune.com article, Here s What it Takes to Sue For Gender Pay Discrimination and Win, which stated Pay discrimination based on sex has long been illegal. Both the Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA) and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibit paying someone less for the same work because of gender. The article later goes on to detail how to go about the legal process and what evidence is required in order to win your case, and what things to be wary of when pursuing legal action. So if you feel that you are being paid less than a coworker based on race, sex, orientation, or anything else that would be defined as discrimination under the law, I urge you to seek out legal counsel and bring your employer to justice for the crime they are committing. If you feel you were passed up for a promotion on the basis of nothing other than gender or sex than you can seek out legal counsel as according to the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission It is illegal for an employer to make decisions about job assignments and promotions based on an employee s race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual ... • 46. The Influences of Mass Media on Health Trends The mass media consists of many sources of communication such as newspapers, magazines, television and radio, amongst other media outlets, of which are used to inform, educate, influence, and entertain an audience. These forms of communication help construct a person s perception because the media use platforms to influence opinion, of which is made possible due to how the media organisations use their resources. The modern media are able to change people s perspectives by introducing them to modern knowledge. In particular, the media has a great influence on health trends, due to them being the main source of information to the public, and therefore they have a greater responsibility to present the facts because irresponsible reporting can result in consequences, such as widespread moral panic, financial failure for businesses and may potentially be life threatening. Evidence to support this statement comes from the increase of the term obesity epidemic used by the media, in particular The New York Times, of whom covered this throughout 751 reports between 1990 and 2001. The obesity epidemic caused a moral panic amongst the public because the media defined it as a social issue due to the news story being less significant to theme. The information presented is influential to the public as it shapes their perception towards obesity. However, the media tend to portray overweight individuals negatively, of which reinforces stigma and ultimately results in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the idea of immigration is one that has existed since the Old Testament with stories of refugees fleeing from oppression. Immigration is an ideal that has remained a topic of discussion for years due to the positives and negatives of it. While immigration may have some negatives, it is my view that immigration is a necessity for the United States because of its roots in Catholic social teaching, effects on economy, and the need for basic rights of individuals to obtain a better life. The Catholic bishops further their explanation of the freedom to move lands when they reference that ownership or duration have no privilege in regard to who s land is who s. The Bishops state that, the native does not have superior rights over the immigrant. Before God all are equal; the earth was given by God to all. When a person cannot achieve a meaningful life in his or her own land, that person has the right to move (Catholic Bishops). The next principle touched upon is the right of a country to regulate its boarders and control immigration. This principle is grounded in the belief that people have the right to move but no country is bound by anything to accept those that want to resettle there. This principle also brings to light the reasons for immigrants fleeing which is normally for somber reasons as they are fleeing from an unsafe place. This illustrates that many immigrants are coming from a bad situation which is not looked highly upon in Catholic social teaching as it goes against the common good to have bad areas . The Catholic Bishops comment on the idea of immigration as a whole explaining that, catholic social teaching is realistic: While people have the right to move, no country has the duty to receive so many immigrants that its social and economic life are jeopardized . The final principle brings together principles one and two, which tend to contradict one another. Principle three states that a country must regulate it s borders with ...
