Editor's Notes

  1. File typed are determined by their file extension, For example, the filename myassign.txt contains the assigned filename “myassign.” and the extension “txt”, which means it is a text file. Remember that the filename and extension is separated by a dot.
  2. Here are some file types, their file extension and some programs that can open them.
  3. Files have properties that can be viewed by right clicking on the File icon, then selecting properties.
  4. A user can be denied of editing the file, opening it, or both; and this is done by checking Deny box for th action to be modified.
  5. Navigation pane – This contains shortcuts to other folders in the system.
  6. You can also see the properties of the folder by just right-clicking the folder.
  7. You can also see the properties of the folder by just right-clicking the folder.
  8. The title bar is the upper area of a window where the name of the folder is found. Hold the left-click and drag the window towards the desired location.
  9. It shows the date modified, file type, and file size.
  10. The OS can be shut down through the Power button at the Start Menu. Restart – This is mainly used to clear the computer when it hangs or gets an error. Sleep – it will resume the previous programs in their state before it was shutdown.
