Football Hang Time Experiment
This project deals with the effect of different gases on a football s hang time. Hang time refers to
how long the football is in the air. Five Wilson Touchdown Official footballs were bought from
Target online and shipped to the researcher s house. Then, four twenty liter cylinders of
industrial grade gases were bought from Airgas online and shipped to the Southwest Virginia
Governor s School. The gases were Nitrogen, Helium, Argon, and Carbon Dioxide. Before this
experiment was done, the footballs were filled with the different gases. The filling of the
footballs were done in Mr. Frazier s physics room at the Southwest Virginia Governor s School.
The first step in order to fill the footballs was to clamp one of the Helium gascylinder to

Benefits Of Promoting Growing Your Own Food And Its...
Currently, in the Denver Metro area, there are more than 40 school based community gardens.
These are projects on a much smaller scale than what I m proposing. The benefits of teaching
youth the importance of growing your own food and its nutritional value would have a positive
effect for decades to come. The Colorado School of Public Health has data on Denver Urban
Garden efforts and how it has led to a tangible, positive change in the community s health and food
security. School based community gardens help to create a bridge between the school and the
surrounding community by offering space for gardening to students, parents, teachers and
neighbors. Teachers could even have an outdoor classroom where students are given the opportunity

This program could be partnered with the Denver Public Schools, Denver Urban Gardens,
Learning Landscapes, and Slow Food Denver. Let s start with the guidelines. School and
educational based gardens provide spaces for experimental hands on education. This also allows
for incorporating the full cycle of learning associated with healthy food; from growing, to nutrition,
and then to cooking. The school gardening program would be designed to involve teachers and
certain primary curriculums in subjects such as economics, social studies, and science. This in turn
would create respect for diversity and also promote self growth. The primary purpose would always
be education. Having the school and the garden be a cohesive program that would be included in
the day to day culture of school would promote sustainability with the administration, neighborhood
volunteers, and parents who are all essential to the function of this plan.
Stewardship opportunities for the students could be provided through the outdoor classroom by
utilizing the grounds of the school site. Outdoor classrooms are engaging spaces for children; it
helps them develop both a

Girl Who Owned A City Event Map Essay
Girl Who Owned A City Event Map
A deadly plague has wiped out every one in the world over the age of twelve. Lisa is ten years old
and struggling to survive with her five year old brother, Todd. She decides to form a militia to
protect her family and community, against the dangerous gangs.
1. Mr. Williams house was one of abandoned places Lisa has robbed. She gathered essential food
and supplies for Todd and herself. During her visit, she found a letter to the owner s son
explaining the plague and a vaccine he could get. Lisa found it similar to the one her father wrote
which was sent to the Nelsons before he died in the hospital.
2. Lisa had an idea to go to a farm where she hoped to find loads of food. She arrived at an inviting

on the defense plan because they needed the protection. Each house was armed with lots of
security including a unique alarm which was to be used when attacked, a guard dog and booby
traps like rockslides. Planks connected to every rooftop, a barbed wire fence lined the houses and
signs were put up everywhere. All children used a favorite weapon for attacking intruders, which
they practiced fighting imaginarily. Drills even occurred throughout the days. After a lucky victory
over The Chidester Gang one day, they celebrated and made it their holiday.
6.After the Nelson house was burnt down, because of Chidester Gang, Lisa and Todd take refuge
at Jill s orphanage. She decided that they would be more likely to win in battles if they didn t have
to fight at all, just defend. Lisa thought that an abandoned high school, Glenbard would be the

one night secretly so no one would know. They had classes, jobs and dorms for every child family
who lived under a constitution of freedom.

told him about his cruelness which made him feel ashamed of all his actions. The leader finally

Mango Street Character
The House on Mango Street For my second quarter book report, I chose to read the classic book,
The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. The novel is a coming of age story about a
young girl finding her place in the world. The story tells about a young girl finding who grows
throughout the story. She goes through puberty. As she is going through this change, she
realizes her and her friends are starting to like the attention of boys. Along the way, she is
brought down, pushed away, and even sexually assaulted. The young girl s name is Esperanza,
and she is trying to find her place on Mango Street. The story takes place over one year, (a date
that is not stated) in a poor Chicago neighborhood for Latinos. The protagonist in the book is
Esperanza, the narrator. Her opposing forces are her neighborhood and the world. Esperanza is a
round character, because she is very outgoing, experimental, and curious. She is also a dynamic
character. Throughout the story she experiences hormonal changes that affect her feelings,
thoughts, and friendships. Because the antagonist is not a human, it has no character traits.
Esperanza feels like she belongs somewhere other than Mango Street. She feels as if she cannot
live her life to the fullest potential there. She strongly wishes she could leave her neighborhood
behind. She observes other women, and makes new friendships in hopes to find where she
belongs. The friend she gets the closest with is Sally. Sally is sexually

The Impact Of Reporting On Foodborne Diseases
The Impact of Reporting on Foodborne Diseases
Abstract ( 300 words): Foodborne diseases result from the ingestion of over 200 pathogens,
chemicals, and parasites, which are contaminated in foods and food products at different points in
the food production and preparation process. 1 The Center for Disease Prevention and Control
(CDC) is tracks foodborne diseases through reports from state and local health departments and
various surveillance systems. Though there have been many methods of control and prevention
within food safety laws, there are high chances of underreporting incidents of foodborne diseases.
Foodborne illnesses can be severe or even fatal; milder cases are often not detected through routine
surveillance.12 Medical professionals, health departments, and laboratories play key roles in
identifying foodborne diseases and their sources and reporting them through surveillance systems.
Also, some agents transmitted commonly through food (e.g., norovirus) are not monitored by
certain surveillance systems because clinical laboratories do not routinely test for them. Most
foodborne diseases can be prevented, and progress has been made in decreasing contamination of
some foods and reducing illness caused by pathogens, but much remains to be done.4
Introduction:
The Food and Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture and health
departments all over the nation take food safety regulation seriously and are attempting to reduce
foodborne diseases on a

Communication And Networking With Infosys
Collaboration is used in every aspect of human life and can be interpreted in different ways, one
might be the idea of people coming together to do a job through different tools. Using tools such as
sign language, verbal communications telephone, or even the batman signal, today such tools are
electronic messaging and networking with an internetconnection (Collaboration Tools, 2015, p.
164). When Kellogg s noticed employees using different applications, websites, and database
systems to communicate with each other in the plant it become vital that they get a system that
would work and cut much of the back and forth communicationout with one site, making it easier

A survey revealed that many companies have engaged security practices with SharePoint for it
seems data is being shared across networks and applications and even beyond the boundaries of
the system. Many workers do not know there are guidelines of who can access the data and what
kind of data is stored on SharePoint. Many employees think since it is a company site it is well
protected by a security defense, while other workers might share with business partners or
contractors (Tim Wilson, 2009). If employees ae not cautious with the data any one can get
access with a good hacker and might get critical information to blackmail the company for
money or even sell to the highest bidder. A company just assumes that new and old workers
know the rules for the use of company computers and websites used in collaboration systems.
Although some policies differ from others they usually state the same. If one was a company
official and asked to review and rewrite the corporate policy to avoid any breach of data the best
place is to start at the internet itself. The first is to make a policy on the usage of company
computer, internet, and email which should include, but not limited to use the internet
responsibility and productively for company business, no personal business is allowed. The
company owns any computer information received on company property (computer) and can be

The Future of the Hoverboard
Research Question: Is it possible to make the hoverboard even more convenient by using extra
wheels and more inventions?
Problem and Application: The new invention of the hoverboard has amazed people and this self
balancing scooter is amusing. The hoverboard is a self balancing scooter that could be
dangerous or hard to use. I think that people want to make the it easier to use and more
convenient. It is important to make a new innovative hoverboard because the the original
hoverboard causes many injuries and the new invention will prevent those injuries. Secondly,
there is a huge problem in hoverboard safety issues because the internet has portrayed videos on
people falling. The problem is more than significant because people are being taken to the
hospital and companies are not selling because of the safety issues. It is more beneficial to have
a safer design so there is no more injuries. A question that I will have testing the innovative
hoverboard design is if I should add extra wheels to my design. Also I cannot touch the hoverboard
s technology so I will have to find a way to make it safer to use. However, the innovative self
balancing scooter has some cons like blowning up across the globe and its durability on roads.
There is no gas involved with the hoverboard and is eco friendly. An average hoverboard takes 3 4
hours to fully charge. It will help the

Slave Codes In The Slave
Most slaves could not read or write, and they were not allowed to be taught how to read or write,
therefore they found ways to communicate with each other in different forms that their owners
would not be able to understand. Sometimes codes were created by whites who were helping the
slaves and the slaves who had already escaped. Some examples of communication, also known as
codes, are songs, quilts, dancing, and drums. Songs were used in everyday life by African slaves.
The slaves called these songs negro spirituals. People such as Harriet Tubmanand others used songs
as a means for communication amongst each other in their fight to gain freedom. Many slaves
knew the secret meanings of words from the negro spirituals, so they could be used to signal
many things. For example, Harriet Tubman used the song Wade in the Water to tell slaves who
were trying to escape to get off the trail and go into the water. This made sure that the dogs
slavecatchers couldn t sniff out their trail. Other slaves used songs as signals. For example, the
Virginia slave Nat Turner, who organized a revolt against slave owners, used the song Steal Away
as a signal to call people together to talk about their plans ( Joe Carter and the Legacy of African
American Spirituals. ) The Underground Railroadis a huge example of where slaves used codes to
communicate. They used codes like bundles of woods, drinking gourd, and load of potatoes,

Disadvantages Of Food Indonalds
To keep up with competitors, food retailers are adding restaurants and carryouts to their stores.
Installing restaurants within stores adds convenience for consumers, offering no frills brands to
compete with nationally advertised brands, providing economy family packs to compete with food
clubs, operating fast checkouts lanes, and providing banking within the stores, to prevent them
from coming off as monopolistic. Consumers wantto shop at stores that are easier for them. By
adding restaurants to stores, consumers may say that buying foodfrom those restaurants may seem
easier than going home to cook a meal with the food items they just bought. As the saying goes,
never go to the store hungry because having restaurants within a store will attract more customers
because they are hungry while they are shopping. Food retailers want their stores to seem more
convenient and better for shoppers, that they must find ways to draw more customers in and by
adding in store restaurants and carryouts they can do so.
Instead of going to different stores because of the different prices, customers are going to pay for
items no matter the price, so they do not have to travel to another store. If the store offers those
products, then customers will buy the items instead because it is more convenient. Even though the
price of one item may be cheaper at another store, customers are still going to put the item in the
basket because they do not want to have to get out at another store just for

The Red Tent By Anita Diamant
The Red Tent An Unforgettable Testimony to Women s Strength and Power
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant illuminates one of the greatest testimonies to women s strength:
childbirth. On a creative level, Diamant did something extraordinary. She took a small passage
from the Bible about the character Dinah, and made her story into an unforgettable testimony to
women s strength and power. Overlooking women s role in Biblical life is easy because there is
practically nothing written by or about women. Even though Diamant s story is fictionalized, there
is truth in showing that women did exist, that there was a very important role played by women of
that time period, and in showing the power and strength of women in a way that can never be ...

In the midst of labor, she anguishes over a secret of womanhood revealed only in childbirth; a
secret that inspired my piece of visual art, Dinah:
Why had no one told me that my body would become a battlefield, a sacrifice, a test? Why did I
not know that birth is the pinnacle where women discover the courage to become mothers? But of
course, there is no way to tell this or to hear it. Until you are the woman on the bricks, you have
no idea how death stands in the corner, ready to play his part. Until you are the woman on the
bricks, you do not know the power that arises from other women even strangers speaking an
unknown tongue, invoking the names of unfamiliar goddesses. (Diamant 224)
A pregnant woman is thrown into this other realm, where her strength is tested. No woman can
prepare for the battle her body goes through, or for the strength and power that arises innately from
an unknown place within, which cannot be known to exist until the experience of childbirth.
In an atmosphere of fire and torment, Dinah features a woman prevailing despite the symbolic
environment of the image. She is looking up, a sign of hope and faith, with body language
exemplifying strength and power. Not only overcoming the physical pain of birth, this woman,
who could be Dinah or any other mother, is enduring the psychological pain that society oppresses
upon women. The goal of Dinah is to represent mothers in Dinah s world and in Sethe s world; and

The Hidden Truth Under The Lifted Veil Essay
The Hidden Truth Under The Lifted Veil
Many stories involving the supernatural or the paranormal give way to the question of the
reliability of the narrator. This question is brought forth in The Lifted Veil by the narrator himself.
Being told in the first person, the debate is ever present, but this particular narrator highlights it
even more than most. He tells a tale of precognizance, which heightens to madness, and the horror
of his omniscience. Whether it is looked at from the standpoint of his words directly, or what he is
using them to describe, the story answers this question for itself. Through his own words in the
text, his cries for pity, his allusion to stretching, skewing, avoiding the truth completely, his visions,
or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator tells the reader that he will not reveal the truth or himself in its entirety. He begins
his tale by saying, [his] story has little reference to [him] (58) and therefore since his story does
indeed revolve around him it can be inferred that it is not true. He later directly states that he will
be not dwelling so much as [he has] hitherto done on [his] inward experience (83) and therefore
the reader will not truly know what is going on his mind. He also infers that the reader is now
familiar with him and understands him, and therefore will be leaving out details, since when
people are well known to eachother [...] feelings and sentiments [are] inferred. (83) Since the reader
is again told to be not getting the full story, it can be assumed that truth is lacking.
The narrator devalues the truth in his own words within the text. He states that we learn words by
rote, but not their meaning, (87) thus insinuating that though the reader recognizes and knows the
words he uses, their actual meaning is not known, and therefore what he says may not be what he
means nor what the reader understands. He further discredits himself, saying [his] recollections of
the past became contracted in the rapidity of thought till they sometimes bear hardly a more distinct
resemblance to the external reality than the forms of an oriental alphabet to the objects

Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics , by Steve Wilson.
Lessons to Live By In his book, Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics, author Steve Wilkens discusses nine
ethical views that are prevalent in cultures today. Although the systems are sometimes vague, and
his discussions, a bit biased, I find myself fortunate because I seem to agree with most of his
opinions that he lets slip. The first ethical belief that the author discusses is Cultural Relativism. It
talks about the how diversity is becoming more and more apparent between different cultures
worldwide. The author mentions that often customs that are unquestioningly accepted in one part
of the world are considered abhorrent in another, for example: human sacrifice. Cultural Relativism
claims that there are no absolute standards for moral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No crime would be anyone s fault. People would not take responsibility for their actions, and this
world in fact, not be ethical at all. Egoism advocates the selfish pursuit of happiness, although it
does seem to put more emphasis on selfishness than happiness. Utilitarianism, which is the next
view discussed, keeps the pursuit of happiness, but eliminates selfishness. This system seems
more socially inclusive, and its main slogan is the greatest happiness for the greatest number. To
me, this is the most wishy washy chapter. One thing from this ethical view that I do agree with is
that it offers a means of balancing individual freedoms with social obligations. While God does
choose certain people to do certain things, we are all judged according to one standard and loved
equally by God. Also, it would seem difficult to imagine a loving God who wants to torture his
creatures. Of course He wants them to be happy. One problem I have with this view is that it
says that actions are judged by their consequences. If this is true, then we can t know if our
actions are good are bad because the decision is dependent on knowing the future. Also, if we
chose one path, we would still not know what the results of the other choices would have been so
how would one know if the one he made was the greatest good. Also, according to Utilitarianism,
we must face the problems concerning the extent ( greatest number ) of actions. We would then
have to face who would be

Use Of Satire In The White Tiger, By Aravind Adiga
The White Tiger is a novel by Aravind Adiga that takes place in the new corrupt world of modern

Subsistence Agriculture
Question #1 How is intensive subsistence agriculture distinguished from extensive subsistence
cropping? Why, in your opinion, have such different land use forms developed in separate areas of
the warm, moist tropics?
Intensive agriculture is the primary subsistence pattern of large scale, populous societies. It results
in much more food being produced per acre compared to other subsistence patterns. Beginning
about 5,000 years ago, the development of intensive farming methods became necessary as the
human population grew in some major river valleys to levels beyond the carrying capacity of the
environment using horticulture and pastoralism. The transition to intensive agriculture was
originally made possible by water management systems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The maximum sustainable yield is usually higher than the optimum sustainable yield.
This logistic model of growth is produced by a population introduced to a new habitat or with
very poor numbers going through a lag phase of slow growth at first. Once it reaches a foothold
population it will go through a rapid growth rate that will start to level off once the species
approaches carrying capacity. The idea of maximum sustained yield is to decrease population
density to the point of highest growth rate possible. This changes the number of the population, but
the new number can be maintained indefinitely, ideally.
MSY is extensively used for fisheries management. MSY in most modern fisheries models
occurs at around 30% of the unexploited population size. This fraction differs among populations
depending on the life history of the species and the age specific selectivity of the fishing method.
However, the approach has been widely criticized as ignoring several key factors involved in
fisheries management and has led to the devastating collapse of many fisheries. As a simple
calculation, it ignores the size and age of the animal being taken, its reproductive status, and it
focuses solely on the species in question, ignoring the damage to the ecosystem caused by the
designated level of exploitation and the issue of by catch.

The Idea Of Women And Men Use Language Differently
Discuss the idea that Women and Men use Language differently.
The data on Table 1 shows that the men in the meeting had more turns but there was an exception
(woman D) and the men in the meeting generally spoke for longer per turn but again there was an
exception (woman B). Additionally men also interrupted more (except for man E), and men were
interrupted more except Man E and Man I, therefore there is no significant pattern in terms of
which gender was interrupted more.
Robin Lakoff found that women s language lacks authority when compared to that used by men
and she believes that women use many techniques in their speech that are deficient to men s
speech. In the Deficit Model Robin Lakoff describes male language as stronger, more prestigious
and more desirable. She argues that women are socialised into behaving like ladies . She gives
examples of language techniques women use that make their language seem deficient these include,
fillers, hedges e.g. sort of , you know , intensifiers e.g. so , weak expletive terms e.g. oh dear ,
empty adjectives e.g. charming, sweet, hypercorrect grammar and tag questions which shows
uncertainty e.g. isn t it? Moreover she interprets that women use more precise colour terms e.g.
mauve, magneta.
I agree that women use these techniques but they don t make women deficient to men. For
example, the use of intensifiers if someone says This chocolate is very tasty and another says This
chocolate is tasty . This doesn t make

Effects Of Imperialism On The Indian Economy
Effects of Imperialism to the Indian Economy In 2015 India was ranked among the highest
countries globally in consumer confidence, this comes after the International Monetary Fund
estimated an economic growth of up to 7% annually for the next decade in India. But this hasn t
always been the case, in fact, it wasn t so long ago that Indiawas simply another colonized nation
around the world, not to mention it s usually rare to see this kind of economic growth in such a
small period of time. The Effects of globalization, with an emphasis on open trade networks, and
the Imperial developments of the late 19th century have led to the emergence and rise of India s
market based economy. This growth has been affected in a very positive way over a span of
centuries by a combination of stronger economic developments brought about by a massive
increase in the countries labor force and the emphasis on education and self governance. An
exposure to both the Western economic systems during the imperial age until their independence
in 1947 and their subsequent involvement in the Asian, Middle Eastern and African trade routes
from the late 15th century placed India in an economic equilibrium where they were able to
benefit from both worlds and become one of the fastest growing economies. The global economic
depression of the 1930 s combined with the two world wars was crucial in establishing early seeds
of economic development in India. During the global

Unnatural Causes
Aundria McCadney Unnatural Causes Not just a paycheck This video made a lot of sense to
me because not having a job can stress out you all types of ways. If a person has no source of
income, no provide food, have shelter, and pay bills this causes stress. The health disparities in
this video are from the employees being laid off, more ER visit was made from the stress which
causes chronic diseases to form. The employees had to watch their expenses and buy cheaper
food or find another way to work but for lower income. What is the job status of all employees
that got laid off? Did the employees find other work? Did they have to settle for a lower income
job? Some of their programs consist of employment fairs now, the unemployment checks, and in
the video if they were going to school they received more money. Place Matters In this video
where you live at is very important for access to healthy foods and to have a clean environment.
When a family is in a bad environment and no access to go to a market this is a set up to have
chronic health problems to occur later on. In lower class neighborhoods the video provided
information that tobacco, fast food, and liquor is easy to find rather than a fresh market or

increases hospital visits. This puts stress on the parents with more money and lack of sleep. I

Catholics have suffered discrimination in the early 20th century for many different reasons, such
as the Spanish war to their beliefs on birth control. Not all Catholics hold every belief that they

against because people think they are extremists or terrorists. There are very few Absolutists,
which are people who believe one hundred percent with a certain groups believes, in America.
However, discrimination does not have a lens to see who is an absolutist or not. Certain prejudice

Wallace Stevens Poem The Death of a Soldier and William...
Read Wallace Stevens poem The Death of a Soldier and E.E. Cummings poem my sweet old
etcetera in your textbook, Select Writers of the Twentieth Century. Select either poem and
analyze the view of war in the poem with the view of war in Faulkner s story Two Soldiers. The
essay should be well developed and well supported with the texts. Wallace Stevens The Death of
a Soldier honors the common, unremarkable death of an ordinary soldier. War is portrayed as
inevitable in the Stevens poem, like the seasons. As in a season of autumn. / The soldier falls.
The soldier is portrayed as acting like a leaf, falling to the ground. Unlike a famous general, there
is no pomp and circumstance to the soldier s death, no memorial or extensive period of
mourning. Metaphors of the natural world also used to describe the soldier include the wind
ceasing to blow. Without dwelling upon the reasons for warfare and the injustices of war,
Stevens makes it seem as if there is nothing humans can do to prevent the carnage caused by war.
Humans are, in effect, caught in the state s machinery of power that is bigger than the individual
will. This sense of war s inevitability is also present in Faulkner s short story Two Soldiers, in
which the unnamed narrator idealizes his brother Pete. Unlike the Stevens poem, the short story is
about a specific war and a specific family. The older brother, Pete, does not have a romantic view
of war but he must surrender to the state s need that

Fossil Fuels Are Bad For Our Environment
Fossil fuels are bad for our environment, and in a economy that is struggling, there is no point in
pouring billions of dollars a year into an energy source that is killing our other resources. This
kind of spending and reckless destruction of our environment will eventually have to stop. The
question is, when it does what will we do? There are many other forms of alternative energy that
are accessible to us right now. These energy sources will eventually have to be used in the place
of burning fossil fuels to power our world. People have become so accustomed to the idea that
burning fossil fuels is okay because that s how it has always been . Even as I am writing this, and
researching why it has to stop, I am not in a panic because these warnings about our planets future
health have been preached to me for a long time. Someday, though, we won t have a choice to
ignore this issue any longer. The limiting factor on humans fossil fueluse will not be the exhaustion

Aethelflaed King Alfred The Great
Blood and screams; the heart of the battlefield. The streets are running with blood, blood of the
foolish Vikings who thought they could attack the city of Chester. Who was the mastermind
behind this strategic victory? Some may not know who she was, but her name was Aethelflaed,
Lady of the Mercians. She was the daughter of King Alfred the Great and sister to King Edward
the Elder. Born in about 869 and married at 16 years to secure an alliance to the Wessex Kingdom,
she rose to a magnanimous position of power. She fought back the foreign invaders with her
husband and later, her brother. Aethelflaed defended her people by building fortifications,
conquering opposing armies, and creating alliances with other nations; she deserves to be
remembered. Sequentially after driving back foreign invaders, she would order the building of
burhs, much like her father had. In 907, she and her husband rebuilt the city... Show more content

The mistake of not making simple reforms, like allowing one representative in parliament per
colony would lead to revolts, and even groups coming together. Some revolts were peaceful
while others, which affected the tax collectors and stamp sellers, were violent resulting in the
tarring and feathering of the British officials. The Sons of Liberty, led by Samuel Adams, James
Otis, and Patrick Henry, were a very radical and overdramatic group, Patrick Henry would make
the fateful statement of Give me liberty or give me death. On October 7th, 1765 the Stamp act
congress would meet there were representatives from 9 of the 13 colonies. The representatives
made a decision to boycott British goods. By March of 1776, the Stamp Acts will have been
appealed, but the government in England is not happy. The taxation of the colonists was very
important to what would eventually be the American Revolution. The people of the colonies were
finally united, though they have not called for an army to be made or haven t talked about
independence, they are starting to come together, and make their differences blur. The restriction
of civil liberties was also a major part of the original rebellions. One act passed by England s
government was the Declaratory Act. The Declaratory act said that the British government could

This treatment approach is based on cognitive and learning theories, tackling misleading beliefs

effective CBT really can be for PTSD. (Resick et al, 2002) carried out an investigation comparing
CBT with strong cognitive restructuring focus and CBT with a strong exposure focus and to a
waiting list control of rape survivors. Prior to this experiment approximately 80% of patients who
completed either form of CBT no longer met the criteria for PTSD. Once this investigation was
complete a follow up treatment took place of which it was noted 2% of the waiting list group had
lost the PTSD diagnoses. Only a year after this investigation Bryant, Moulds, Guthrie, Dang Nixon,
(2003) restructured the experiment comparing exposure alone, exposure plus cognitive
restructuring, and supportive counselling in civilians with PTSD resulting from various traumatic
events. At this particular follow up 65 80% of participants who either completed either form of
CBT were now clear of PTSD diagnosis, compared to less than 40% of those who completed
supportive counselling.

In chapter 1: A Country of Illusion, Reisner describes the exploration and settlement of the
Western United States, more specifically California. Reisner explains that a Spaniard by the
name of Francisco Vasquez de Coronado explored out this way for gold. Reisner then moves on
and goes into detail about the Powell Expedition of 1869 and says that explorers found land that
was dry and bare that showed no sign of vegetation which than got the name of the Great
American Desert. After the discussion of the barren land, Reisner briefly discussed the
Homestead Act and how it affected people and how it granted access and ownership of land to
people. In Chapter 2: The Red Queen, Reisner began to describe the early settlement into
California and the water issue that most came to face but in the act of describing this Reisner

Character Analysis Of Little Miss Sunshine
Little Miss Sunshine is a comedy movie about a seven year old girl named Olive who aspires to
win the Little Miss Sunshine pageant. To help make her wish come true, her six member family
takes a road trip from Albuquerque to Redondo Beach, California. At the conclusion of the film,
Olive and her family learned to trust and support each other, no matter the situation. Olive is the
youngest member of her family who is entering middle childhood and adolescencejust like her
older brother Dwayne. Olive is the type of girl that is cheerful, most of the time and not
particularly the kind you would see in a pageant. Olive s brother, Dwayne, could be described as
emo . Although he claims that he hates his family, he loves his sister, Olive. Their parents,
Richard and Sheryl, and their Uncle Frank are in the process of entering middle adulthood.
Throughout most of the film, Richard is considered selfish because he does not want his family
to be seen as losers . Richard is obnoxious to his family, but he still means well and wants them to
succeed. Sheryl is the normal member of the family who does not tolerate anyone s antics.
Uncle Frank is very sarcastic and failed at his attempt to commit suicide. He used to be a college
professor, so he is considered the smart guy. The sixth member of Olive s family, her grandpa,
dies during the movie due to an overdose, but was entering the late adulthood stage. The
members of Olive s family share some similarities and differences, but since they all vary in age,
developmental concepts will be different in a way for each family member. Olive is seven which
means she is approaching adolescence while Dwayne is currently going through adolescence.
Typically, females ages eight to fourteen go through pubertal changes while males go through it
between ages nine to fifteen. The difference in age does not have to do with maturity as much as it
does the brain. Many biological changes take place during the adolescent years, such as: height,
hormones, and etc. Changes in height during adolescence are regulated by the complex of
hormones. Changes in hormones take place later and over a longer period of time in boys than
girls. These changes in hormones could affect how interactions with

Abstract: Advancement in recent years on the efficiency of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP)
in production and cost benefits have increased their use as alternative means to steel rebar in bridge
deck bases. The purpose in applying rebar is to increase the tensile strength of concrete. Considering
the versatility of bridges there are many factors that need to be analyzed when choosing whether
to use steel rebar or GFRP material such as: cost, tensile strength, and weather resistance. Stress
strain graphs were calculated, graphed, and analyzed to determine the yield tensile strength and
stiffness of steel rebar and GFRP. Data collected from alkaline bath tests were graphed and
analyzed to determine the thermal and corrosion resistance of each material. Costs per square
inch of each material were also compared as well as each materials quality and life expectancy.
The results of the conducted test analysis found the GFRP to have greater thermal resistance, lower
cost, and higher life expectancy than the steel rebar, however the steel rebar s stiffness was found
to be about six times larger than the GFRP s. These results suggest that the advancements in GFRP
can provide longer lasting bridge structures and will change the future of construction and
restoration of bridges.

The Success Of Implementation Of The Final Solution
Category III 7. Similarities, Differences, by Country. Why Success? Introduction In this essay I will
evaluate the success of implementation of the Final solution in four nations. These four nations are
the Netherlands, France, Yugoslavia and Italy. There will be a description of the treatment of Jews
as well as the kill rate in that country. Besides, there will be an analysis, why the countries
cooperated and why some nations were more successful in implementing the final solution. Lastly, I
will compare and contrast all the data of the nations in the conclusion. The Netherlands The
installation of pro German government in the Netherlands starkly contributed to the high Jewish
death toll. When the Netherlands was being invaded by the Germans the Dutch Cabinet and the
Queen fled to England. Therefore, after the occupation, the Germans could install in contrast to
other occupied countries a Pro German Civilian Government, led by the Austrian Arthur Seyss
Inquart. He had the full control over all the civil servants in the Netherlands and could therefore
easily implement new anti Jewish policies. One of his first policies was to establish a Jewish
Council with the purpose to control the Jews and unnoticeably strip them away of their rights. Also
with the help of the civil servants, Seyss Inquart could initiate a registration system to make the
Jews more easily identifiable by inserting a J on their card. This registration simplified and

The Creation Of Adam s Ceiling Essay
According to arthistory.about.com The Creation of Adam is a fresco painting by Michelangelo,
which is on the Sistine Chapel s ceiling. The Sistine Chapel forms part of the large Papal Chapel
built within the Vatican by Pope Sixtus IV. Pope Julius II asked Michelangelo to paint the Sistine
Chapel s ceiling in 1508. Michelangelopainted the ceiling from July 1508 to October 1512. The
creation of Adam was painted in 1511. In fact, The Creation of Adam took less than three weeks to

panel at the center of the room, and the Congregation of the Waters, which is closer to the altar.
The ceiling measures about 141 feet by 43 feet. Michelangelo painted over 5,000 square feet of

According to www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting fresco painting is a method of painting water
based pigments on freshly applied plaster, usually on wall surfaces. The colors are made by
grinding dry powder pigments in pure water. Then, the paint dries and sets with the plaster to
become a permanent part of the wall. Fresco painting is ideal for making murals because it lends
itself to a monumental style, is durable, and has a matte surface. This contributed to why
Michelangelo chose to paint using this style. (www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting)

Description Of The Electrocardiogram ( Ecg )
1. Introduction
The electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the most widely used tools for non invasively assessing
the cardiac state of a subject. It is used internationally for the early detection of acute myocardial
infarction and arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation [1]. Due to the high mortality rate of
cardiovascular disease (CVD) it is of paramount importance to optimise the use of the ECG as it
detects the presence of CVD. The World Health Organisation estimates this disease will kill
approximately 17 million people per year [2]. Currently, the ECG is normally represented on a
paper printout, which is then interpreted by human observers. Given the prevalence of mobile
devices in medicine it is becoming apparent that the ECG will be interpreted using such devices in
the near future [3]. Clinical interpretation of the ECG has yet to be routinely supported using
mobile decision support algorithms. With this in mind an initial literature review has been carried
out to identify potential research questions, gaps and hypotheses.
2. Overview of Key Research Areas
Identified within the initial literature review are a number of key research themes including 1)
mobile based clinical training of ECG interpretation, 2) telemedicine, 3) ECG signal visualisation

Mercantilism s Effect On The American Rebellion In 1776
The theory of mercantilism is a belief that wealth is power. This led many countries to become
money hungry because the countries wanted to be powerful. Great Britain believed in
mercantilism, as shown in its interactions with its colonies in America. Mercantilism is shown
economically through the many laws that Britain passed that taxed the colonies. In addition, it is
shown socially through the colonists cries of No taxation without representation. Without a doubt,
mercantilisms economic effects led Americans to rebel in 1776. However, mercantilism s social
effects had an even bigger effect on the colonies rebelling from Great Britain.

the Stamp Act, that on the day it was supposed to go into effect, it could not because there was no

colonists. The effects of mercantilism were also seen through the colonists cry of No taxation
without representation. They were against all of the taxes Britain set up in the colonies due to the
mercantilist system. The colonists were not directly represented in Britain s parliament, so getting
taxed by Britain irritated the colonists. One final social effect of the mercantilist system of Great
Britain was the nonimportation agreements the colonists had. The colonists agreed to not import
things from Britain and instead make the things themselves. These agreements were also designed
to hurt Britain, since the colonies were a major source of imports and exports for Britain. The
social effects all show how the colonists were tired of taxing, and therefore thought it would be

How Did The Hundred Years War Contribute To The French...
Helps the Middle Class to Rise The Hundred Years War was a conflict between England and France
that lasted (with some interruptions) from 1337 to 1453 ( The Hundred ). Although the war caused
many significant changes in both England and France, one of the most interesting ones was its
contribution to the end of feudalism and the development of a true middle class in England. The
Hundred Years War
helped the middle class to rise by reducing the number of available workers in
the population, exposing ordinary soldiers to the crossbow, and assisting in the formation of
overseas trade partnerships. One of the most obvious ways that the Hundred Years War helped
the Middle Class to rise was that it did away with surplus workers. Although it is impossible to
calculate exactly how many people were killed during the war, during the years of the most intense
fighting as many as 200,000 men a year may have been killed (Blackmon 225). The majority of
these casualties were not among the ruling class... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the opening battles of the war the French used battalions of Italian mercenary soldiers armed
with crossbows. The crossbows were no match for the English long bows in the hands of a
trained archer, but the advantage of the crossbow was that it could be fired by anybody who
could cock and aim it (Conrad 12). It required no special training. It could also be aimed
precisely enough to shoot through the gaps in armor, and some crank crossbows could even
shoot through thin armor (Crossbow Historical Society). English soldiers took these weapons
home, probably as spoils of war. They were then used by primitively organized militias, the so
called Pitchfork Police, who were forced into protecting their villages because all of the knights
were gone (Conrad 38). When ordinary people learned that they could protect themselves, one of

picture came out of the camera and I shook it to get it to dry faster. It actually came out pretty
good. I slid the picture inside the pocket on the teddybears t shirt. The t shirt was a pretty baby

Clara had just invited me to the carnival that is in town for the weekend. I agreed to go with her.

did not take very long. We stepped onto the ferris wheel, as the man closed the door behind us, it
began to turn pretty quick. We got to the top of the ferris wheel and all of a sudden, it stopped. I

Cemetery ( Abraham /history.com). Booth fled south to Maryland ( Abraham /history.com). Union
soldiers were on Booths trail immediately ( Abraham /history.com). David Herold was one of
Booths conspirators and went south with him. Booth stopped at Samuel Mudd s house to get his
leg treated by this doctor ( Abraham /history.com). The doctor was sent to prison for life since he
treated Booths leg. Before booth and Herold could get across the river, unions soldiers caught them
( Abraham /history.com). The soldiers set the barn on fire that Booth was in hoping he would come
out. Instead the soldiers shot him after Herold came out and surrendered ( Abraham /history.com).
Hours after Booth was shot he looked at his hands and said Useless, useless and died ( Abraham

Bravery In America
The America I believe in, has a military that has fought for our freedom. Our military has fought
for years to ensure our safety. Without the military we would be under the rule of an enemy
country. The military is especially brave, and we can barely convey they are afraid. Like David
Hackworth said, Bravery is being the only one who knows you re afraid. We must be as brave as
they are, and give them support. According to the web site army.mil, the militarydoes what they
ensure for us, since they acquire honor, integrity, respect, and courage. My uncle, Henry, is a
retired veteran, and he has been through war. He stands a highly respected person in the military. I
asked him when I was younger why did he join the military. Confidently, he

Refrigerator Mother Theory
Refrigerator Mother Theory. Initially, Leo Kanner (1943), a child psychiatrist at the Johns Hopkins
University, introduced the term early infantile autism in 1943. He considered that the refrigerator
mother triggered early infantile autism. In other words, he believed that the autism was developed
after the birth, and lack of parental warmth triggered children to become isolated from the society.
Consequently, those children who did not receive enough care exhibited autistic like feature,
meaning alone or self in Greek. Furthermore, this idea was strongly supported by Bruno Bettelheim,
Austrian born American child psychiatrist, for two decades. He similarly claims that the autismwas
caused from mother withheld appropriate affection toward their children and failed to make a good
connection with them during infancy (Bettelheim, 2010). Moreover, he states that weak or absent
father would likely cause autism, since children would not receive enough paternal love. In both
cases, psychiatrists in mid twentieth century believed that the autism was developed from children
not receiving enough love, warmth and care from their parents. Moreover, they believed that good
parenting could alleviate children from becoming ASD.
Autism and Vaccination. Another postnatal theory is a vaccination theory. Andrew Wakefield
published an article in the medical journal, Lancelot, reporting that the measles, mumps and rubella
(MMR) vaccine would trigger the autism spectrum disorder (Godlee,

Carnegie And Rockefeller Captain Of Industry Essay
Throughout the developing stages of the United states, many people played very key parts in
their way of dealing with industrialization and helping our country grow. Andrew Carnegie is the
man known for taking over the steel industry. Carnegie had done his research and planning to try
to take over the steel industry. Rockefeller is another big name that will be remembered as the
man who took over the oil industry. Rockefeller was a man of his patience and wisdom to force
his competition out of business instead of taking over. Now, Rockefeller and Carnegie are two
names that sit a top of a fence. Robber Barons on one side and Captains of Industry on the other.
Captains of Industry seem to be the most fitting for these two industrializers since they both were
considered huge philanthropists through their donating and contributions to society. Rockefeller
and Carnegie both payed very low wages, this would be a result of their riches, since there wasn t
a huge drop in money to pay their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carnegie and Rockefeller were considered Innovators, bold entrepreneurs, materialistic and
predatory since they were so good at taking over their industry. It has been stated by historians
that without the effects of Carnegie and Rockefeller, America wouldn t be the same since the
absence of them would change the history and inevitably America would ve lost WWI and WWII
since the steel wouldn t had been as abundant and the amount of oil wouldn t help to transport
people, troops and goods. The main effects of Carnegie are the skyscrapers and landmarks we
have today in our cities and even around the world. Rockefeller mainly helped to produce more oil
for the world to use influencing the use of transportation. The amount of help and improvement
made by the two industrializers has helped to push America on the right track and moving forward

The Budget Of The NASA Budget
In the 2017 fiscal year (Oct. 2016 Sept. 2017), the budget for NASA was 19 billion US dollars
[1]. However, the total budget for the United States in 2017 is 3,650 billion US dollars [2]
making the NASA budget only .52% of the United States budget for the 2017 fiscal year. Even
though 19 billion US dollars seem like a large amount of money, in comparison to 1966, the height
of the Apollo mission, the budget for NASAwas 5.9 billion United Statesdollars [3] which was
.83% of the National budget of 708 billion dollars [4]. Also, with the 122 million citizens [5]
reported to pay federal taxes in the United States, each taxpayer only contributes about $12.98 a
month to NASA, so if NASA were to disappear, the average taxpayer could afford... Show more

Only 10% of the budget is going to go to space technology because even though there is still a
need to continue developing technologies for space, it does not need the same funds as other
sections, and without any large space missions in the near future it is not as pressing as other
categories like science, exploration, and space operations.
The third category is exploration which will receive 27% of the budget. The exploration budget
will go to projects like space transportation systems and human missions to the moon and mars.
Projects such as these require a large portion of the budget due to their expensive nature, but
despite the cost, these missions gain public support. Without such missions, the public would not
have supported the United States spending billions of dollars on scientific research. Additionally,
these missions help gain an understanding of the universe. The fourth category is Aeronautics
which will receive 7% of the budget. Aeronautic projects would include new aircraft and new air
traffic control systems. This category is similar to space technology where there still needs to be
research in the field but it does not require as much money as other parts of NASA. Also, there
are more companies in the private sector of aeronautic that will be researching similar topics.
Therefore to save money for different products aeronautics received the lowest part of the budget.
Lastly, space operations will receive 26% of the budget. Space

Superbowl Commercials Were Persuasive
Foundations of Government Superbowl Commercials Choose two of this year s Superbowl
commercials that you thought were persuasive. Describe each ad in as much detail as possible.
What were they trying to sell or persuade you to do? How did they try to do this? Then, compare
the two ads. Which was most effective? Why? Plan on your own paper. Write your essay
answering the questions here. Your answer The two commercials that I thought were persuasive
were the Skittles commercial and the Ford commercial. These commercials were in my opinion the
most persuasive out of all the commercials because they used humor, and they were still very
persuasive. The ford commercial being more persuasive than the skittles commercial I still liked
them both equally. The Skittles commercial was more about being humorous rather than being so
persuasive but was still very persuasive.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

catching the skittles in their mouth as the boy threw them in.This shows that besides whatever
else was going on didn t matter to them because the skittles were so good. This commercial also
had no narration until the very end when it stated the skittles slogan, or catch phrase. The Ford
Commercial showed different scenarios of people getting stuck in bad situations and they couldn t
get help, until ford came by and rescued them. For example, there was a man with his car that was
stuck in the snow and he was waving his hands at passing vehicles trying to get them to stop so
they could help him out. Then when nobody came, the next scene with that man showed a Ford
truck towing his car out of the snow. This commercial also had Narration throughout the whole

Essay about Personal Responsibility and College Success
Even though main argumentations against personal responsibility include the fact that many
people are just naturally unable to take responsibility, there are too many arguments for personal
responsibility that they just outweigh it. ( What Are The Main Arguments Against Personal
Responsibility? , n.d.). Personal responsibilityis a choice that you have to make. Taking personal
responsibility for something gives you something to measure up to. Personal responsibility is the
key to college success, (Houston, 2011) but most students find themselves falling short of what lies
between these two. (Houston, 2011) If you want to be successful in college, your personal

You don t feel sorry for wrong things, nor do you promise that you ll never do it again. You just
admit a wrong when fault occurs. (Thieme Jr., 1995) Every day should include some sort study
from a teacher that will make you into a better person. Some people use the bible while others
learn from self help gurus. If you want to become a straight A student, you need to set a goal and
write it down. This will help you do well in school. If you don t do well in college, it will affect
you. Several bad things can happen to you. They include you won t get a good paying job, or
you won t advance in your career. It all comes down to this; being responsible and doing well in
school will make you happy. College success is impossible without personal responsibility.
(Fichtner, 2012)
Here are some suggestions to help you become successful in college. Start off with goals and a
preliminary plan that you can put into practice with your education. If you want to become a
STAR, write down these important words: specific, time, areas and reflect. Here is what these
words mean. Write down specific goals. Write goals in several time frames. Write your goals in
several areas of your life. Last, reflect on your goals. (Ellis, 2010, pg. 67 68) You can use several
tools to help you accomplish your goals. You can use your calendar or write a to do list. (Ellis,
2010, pg. 63, 71 86) Take your time, brainstorm and evaluate what you have written down.

Aztec Culture And The Aztec Civilization
Aztec culture flourished in the highlands of central Mexico between the twelfth and sixteenth
centuries, AD. As the last in a series of complex urban civilizations in Mesoamerica, the Aztecs
adopted many traits and institutions from their predecessors such as the Maya and Teotihuacan.
The Aztecs also devised many innovations, particularly in the realms of economics and politics.
Azteccivilization was destroyed at its height by the invasion of Spanish conquerors under
Hernando CortГ©s in 1519. The Aztecs, like many other Mesoamerican cultures, used a limited
form of writing that consisted of pictorial representations painted on bark paper and animal
hides. (Diego 8). The Aztecs were a very religious group, many of their traditions and recorded
history has been related to the religion of the Aztec civilization. Even after the Aztec culture was
dominated by the Spaniards, religion was still a big part of Mesoamerican culture. Regardless of
what happened to the Aztecs, religion never strayed from them even if their beliefs changed. The
Aztec empire stretched throughout large portions of what is now Mexico and was powerful native
empires that was created during its time period, the Aztecs though were immigrants of this area.
According to their pictorial histories the Aztec peoples claimed to have migrated to central Mexico
from a place in the north called Aztlan (Diego 10). The Aztec immigrants arrived in central Mexico
during a time of low population and abundant land so it

Gender Roles in Australian Contemporary Society
Gender roles within Australian contemporary Australian Society.
Women produce children; women are mothers and wives; women do the cooking, cleaning, sewing
and washing; they take care of men and are subordinate to male authority; they are largely excluded
from high status occupations and from positions of power. (Haralambous and Holborn 1995,
Sociology Themes and Perspectives, HarperCollins Publishers) These stereotypes have come from
our past and have now become quite frequently used in today s society. Women have been seen as
the maintainers of the household while the men go out to work and earn a living. When our ancient
ancestors switched to hunting as a way of life, the relationship between males and females was

Although Australia s culture and views on gender roles have now become a lot more relaxed and
calm, with some woman having high status occupations and positions of power within society.
There are still stereotypes and generalisations on genders in our Australian society.

This books focuses on things that influence gender roles such as Sociological Perspectives, Social
Stratification , Sex and Gender, Race, Ethnicity and Nationality, Poverty and Social Exclusion ,
Crime and Deviance, Religion , Families and Households, Power, Politics and the State, Work,
Unemployment and Leisure, Organisations and Bureaucracy, Education, Culture and Identity and

  • 3. Benefits Of Promoting Growing Your Own Food And Its... Currently, in the Denver Metro area, there are more than 40 school based community gardens. These are projects on a much smaller scale than what I m proposing. The benefits of teaching youth the importance of growing your own food and its nutritional value would have a positive effect for decades to come. The Colorado School of Public Health has data on Denver Urban Garden efforts and how it has led to a tangible, positive change in the community s health and food security. School based community gardens help to create a bridge between the school and the surrounding community by offering space for gardening to students, parents, teachers and neighbors. Teachers could even have an outdoor classroom where students are given the opportunity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This program could be partnered with the Denver Public Schools, Denver Urban Gardens, Learning Landscapes, and Slow Food Denver. Let s start with the guidelines. School and educational based gardens provide spaces for experimental hands on education. This also allows for incorporating the full cycle of learning associated with healthy food; from growing, to nutrition, and then to cooking. The school gardening program would be designed to involve teachers and certain primary curriculums in subjects such as economics, social studies, and science. This in turn would create respect for diversity and also promote self growth. The primary purpose would always be education. Having the school and the garden be a cohesive program that would be included in the day to day culture of school would promote sustainability with the administration, neighborhood volunteers, and parents who are all essential to the function of this plan. Stewardship opportunities for the students could be provided through the outdoor classroom by utilizing the grounds of the school site. Outdoor classrooms are engaging spaces for children; it helps them develop both a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lisa is ten years old and struggling to survive with her five year old brother, Todd. She decides to form a militia to protect her family and community, against the dangerous gangs. 1. Mr. Williams house was one of abandoned places Lisa has robbed. She gathered essential food and supplies for Todd and herself. During her visit, she found a letter to the owner s son explaining the plague and a vaccine he could get. Lisa found it similar to the one her father wrote which was sent to the Nelsons before he died in the hospital. 2. Lisa had an idea to go to a farm where she hoped to find loads of food. Each house was armed with lots of security including a unique alarm which was to be used when attacked, a guard dog and booby traps like rockslides. Planks connected to every rooftop, a barbed wire fence lined the houses and signs were put up everywhere. All children used a favorite weapon for attacking intruders, which they practiced fighting imaginarily. Drills even occurred throughout the days. After a lucky victory over The Chidester Gang one day, they celebrated and made it their holiday. 6.After the Nelson house was burnt down, because of Chidester Gang, Lisa and Todd take refuge at Jill s orphanage. She decided that they would be more likely to win in battles if they didn t have to fight at all, just defend. Lisa thought that an abandoned high school, Glenbard would be the perfect place and so she tells the captains. The Grand Avenue citizens moved to the high school one night secretly so no one would know. They had classes, jobs and dorms for every child family who lived under a constitution of freedom. 10.3Lisa Nelson faced Tom Logan at Glenbard when she returned to claim her rightful city. She told him about his cruelness which made him feel ashamed of all his actions. The leader finally left silently with his gang and Lisa was in charge once again. 7. It had been two years at ... • 5. Mango Street Character The House on Mango Street For my second quarter book report, I chose to read the classic book, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. The novel is a coming of age story about a young girl finding her place in the world. The story tells about a young girl finding who grows throughout the story. She goes through puberty. As she is going through this change, she realizes her and her friends are starting to like the attention of boys. Along the way, she is brought down, pushed away, and even sexually assaulted. The young girl s name is Esperanza, and she is trying to find her place on Mango Street. The story takes place over one year, (a date that is not stated) in a poor Chicago neighborhood for Latinos. The protagonist in the book is Esperanza, the narrator. Her opposing forces are her neighborhood and the world. Esperanza is a round character, because she is very outgoing, experimental, and curious. She is also a dynamic character. Throughout the story she experiences hormonal changes that affect her feelings, thoughts, and friendships. Because the antagonist is not a human, it has no character traits. Esperanza feels like she belongs somewhere other than Mango Street. She feels as if she cannot live her life to the fullest potential there. She strongly wishes she could leave her neighborhood behind. She observes other women, and makes new friendships in hopes to find where she belongs. The friend she gets the closest with is Sally. • 6. The Impact Of Reporting On Foodborne Diseases The Impact of Reporting on Foodborne Diseases Abstract ( 300 words): Foodborne diseases result from the ingestion of over 200 pathogens, chemicals, and parasites, which are contaminated in foods and food products at different points in the food production and preparation process. 1 The Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) is tracks foodborne diseases through reports from state and local health departments and various surveillance systems. Though there have been many methods of control and prevention within food safety laws, there are high chances of underreporting incidents of foodborne diseases. Foodborne illnesses can be severe or even fatal; milder cases are often not detected through routine surveillance.12 Medical professionals, health departments, and laboratories play key roles in identifying foodborne diseases and their sources and reporting them through surveillance systems. Also, some agents transmitted commonly through food (e.g., norovirus) are not monitored by certain surveillance systems because clinical laboratories do not routinely test for them. Most foodborne diseases can be prevented, and progress has been made in decreasing contamination of some foods and reducing illness caused by pathogens, but much remains to be done.4 Introduction: The Food and Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture and health departments all over the nation take food safety regulation seriously and are attempting to reduce foodborne diseases on a ... Using tools such as sign language, verbal communications telephone, or even the batman signal, today such tools are electronic messaging and networking with an internetconnection (Collaboration Tools, 2015, p. 164). Many employees think since it is a company site it is well protected by a security defense, while other workers might share with business partners or contractors (Tim Wilson, 2009). If employees ae not cautious with the data any one can get access with a good hacker and might get critical information to blackmail the company for money or even sell to the highest bidder. A company just assumes that new and old workers know the rules for the use of company computers and websites used in collaboration systems. Although some policies differ from others they usually state the same. • 8. The Future Of The Hoverboard Essay Arjun Tarsadia D Block Physical Science 8 18 November 2016 The Future of the Hoverboard Research Question: Is it possible to make the hoverboard even more convenient by using extra wheels and more inventions? Problem and Application: The new invention of the hoverboard has amazed people and this self balancing scooter is amusing. The hoverboard is a self balancing scooter that could be dangerous or hard to use. I think that people want to make the it easier to use and more convenient. It is important to make a new innovative hoverboard because the the original hoverboard causes many injuries and the new invention will prevent those injuries. Secondly, there is a huge problem in hoverboard safety issues because the internet has portrayed videos on people falling. The problem is more than significant because people are being taken to the hospital and companies are not selling because of the safety issues. It is more beneficial to have a safer design so there is no more injuries. A question that I will have testing the innovative hoverboard design is if I should add extra wheels to my design. Also I cannot touch the hoverboard s technology so I will have to find a way to make it safer to use. However, the innovative self balancing scooter has some cons like blowning up across the globe and its durability on roads. There is no gas involved with the hoverboard and is eco friendly. • 9. Slave Codes In The Slave Most slaves could not read or write, and they were not allowed to be taught how to read or write, therefore they found ways to communicate with each other in different forms that their owners would not be able to understand. Sometimes codes were created by whites who were helping the slaves and the slaves who had already escaped. Some examples of communication, also known as codes, are songs, quilts, dancing, and drums. Songs were used in everyday life by African slaves. The slaves called these songs negro spirituals. People such as Harriet Tubmanand others used songs as a means for communication amongst each other in their fight to gain freedom. Many slaves knew the secret meanings of words from the negro spirituals, so they could be used to signal many things. For example, Harriet Tubman used the song Wade in the Water to tell slaves who were trying to escape to get off the trail and go into the water. This made sure that the dogs slavecatchers couldn t sniff out their trail. Other slaves used songs as signals. For example, the Virginia slave Nat Turner, who organized a revolt against slave owners, used the song Steal Away as a signal to call people together to talk about their plans ( Joe Carter and the Legacy of African American Spirituals. ) The Underground Railroadis a huge example of where slaves used codes to communicate. • 10. Disadvantages Of Food Indonalds To keep up with competitors, food retailers are adding restaurants and carryouts to their stores. Installing restaurants within stores adds convenience for consumers, offering no frills brands to compete with nationally advertised brands, providing economy family packs to compete with food clubs, operating fast checkouts lanes, and providing banking within the stores, to prevent them from coming off as monopolistic. Consumers wantto shop at stores that are easier for them. By adding restaurants to stores, consumers may say that buying foodfrom those restaurants may seem easier than going home to cook a meal with the food items they just bought. As the saying goes, never go to the store hungry because having restaurants within a store will attract more customers because they are hungry while they are shopping. Food retailers want their stores to seem more convenient and better for shoppers, that they must find ways to draw more customers in and by adding in store restaurants and carryouts they can do so. Instead of going to different stores because of the different prices, customers are going to pay for items no matter the price, so they do not have to travel to another store. If the store offers those products, then customers will buy the items instead because it is more convenient. Even though the price of one item may be cheaper at another store, customers are still going to put the item in the basket because they do not want to have to get out at another store just for ... • 11. The Red Tent By Anita Diamant The Red Tent An Unforgettable Testimony to Women s Strength and Power The Red Tent by Anita Diamant illuminates one of the greatest testimonies to women s strength: childbirth. On a creative level, Diamant did something extraordinary. She took a small passage from the Bible about the character Dinah, and made her story into an unforgettable testimony to women s strength and power. Overlooking women s role in Biblical life is easy because there is practically nothing written by or about women. Even though Diamant s story is fictionalized, there is truth in showing that women did exist, that there was a very important role played by women of that time period, and in showing the power and strength of women in a way that can never be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the midst of labor, she anguishes over a secret of womanhood revealed only in childbirth; a secret that inspired my piece of visual art, Dinah: Why had no one told me that my body would become a battlefield, a sacrifice, a test? Why did I not know that birth is the pinnacle where women discover the courage to become mothers? But of course, there is no way to tell this or to hear it. Until you are the woman on the bricks, you have no idea how death stands in the corner, ready to play his part. Until you are the woman on the bricks, you do not know the power that arises from other women even strangers speaking an unknown tongue, invoking the names of unfamiliar goddesses. (Diamant 224) A pregnant woman is thrown into this other realm, where her strength is tested. No woman can prepare for the battle her body goes through, or for the strength and power that arises innately from an unknown place within, which cannot be known to exist until the experience of childbirth. In an atmosphere of fire and torment, Dinah features a woman prevailing despite the symbolic environment of the image. She is looking up, a sign of hope and faith, with body language exemplifying strength and power. Not only overcoming the physical pain of birth, this woman, who could be Dinah or any other mother, is enduring the psychological pain that society oppresses upon women. The Hidden Truth Under The Lifted Veil Essay The Hidden Truth Under The Lifted Veil Many stories involving the supernatural or the paranormal give way to the question of the reliability of the narrator. This question is brought forth in The Lifted Veil by the narrator himself. Being told in the first person, the debate is ever present, but this particular narrator highlights it even more than most. He tells a tale of precognizance, which heightens to madness, and the horror of his omniscience. Whether it is looked at from the standpoint of his words directly, or what he is using them to describe, the story answers this question for itself. The narrator tells the reader that he will not reveal the truth or himself in its entirety. He begins his tale by saying, [his] story has little reference to [him] (58) and therefore since his story does indeed revolve around him it can be inferred that it is not true. He later directly states that he will be not dwelling so much as [he has] hitherto done on [his] inward experience (83) and therefore the reader will not truly know what is going on his mind. He also infers that the reader is now familiar with him and understands him, and therefore will be leaving out details, since when people are well known to eachother [...] feelings and sentiments [are] inferred. (83) Since the reader is again told to be not getting the full story, it can be assumed that truth is lacking. The narrator devalues the truth in his own words within the text. He states that we learn words by rote, but not their meaning, (87) thus insinuating that though the reader recognizes and knows the words he uses, their actual meaning is not known, and therefore what he says may not be what he means nor what the reader understands. He further discredits himself, saying [his] recollections of the past became contracted in the rapidity of thought till they sometimes bear hardly a more distinct resemblance to the external reality than the forms of an oriental alphabet to the objects ... • 13. Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics , by Steve Wilson. Lessons to Live By In his book, Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics, author Steve Wilkens discusses nine ethical views that are prevalent in cultures today. Although the systems are sometimes vague, and his discussions, a bit biased, I find myself fortunate because I seem to agree with most of his opinions that he lets slip. The first ethical belief that the author discusses is Cultural Relativism. It talks about the how diversity is becoming more and more apparent between different cultures worldwide. The author mentions that often customs that are unquestioningly accepted in one part of the world are considered abhorrent in another, for example: human sacrifice. Cultural Relativism claims that there are no absolute standards for moral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No crime would be anyone s fault. People would not take responsibility for their actions, and this world in fact, not be ethical at all. Egoism advocates the selfish pursuit of happiness, although it does seem to put more emphasis on selfishness than happiness. Utilitarianism, which is the next view discussed, keeps the pursuit of happiness, but eliminates selfishness. This system seems more socially inclusive, and its main slogan is the greatest happiness for the greatest number. To me, this is the most wishy washy chapter. One thing from this ethical view that I do agree with is that it offers a means of balancing individual freedoms with social obligations. While God does choose certain people to do certain things, we are all judged according to one standard and loved equally by God. Also, it would seem difficult to imagine a loving God who wants to torture his creatures. Of course He wants them to be happy. One problem I have with this view is that it says that actions are judged by their consequences. If this is true, then we can t know if our actions are good are bad because the decision is dependent on knowing the future. Also, if we chose one path, we would still not know what the results of the other choices would have been so how would one know if the one he made was the greatest good. Also, according to Utilitarianism, we must face the problems concerning the extent ( greatest number ) of actions. We would then have to face who would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Subsistence Agriculture Question #1 How is intensive subsistence agriculture distinguished from extensive subsistence cropping? Why, in your opinion, have such different land use forms developed in separate areas of the warm, moist tropics? Intensive agriculture is the primary subsistence pattern of large scale, populous societies. It results in much more food being produced per acre compared to other subsistence patterns. Beginning about 5,000 years ago, the development of intensive farming methods became necessary as the human population grew in some major river valleys to levels beyond the carrying capacity of the environment using horticulture and pastoralism. The transition to intensive agriculture was originally made possible by water management systems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The maximum sustainable yield is usually higher than the optimum sustainable yield. This logistic model of growth is produced by a population introduced to a new habitat or with very poor numbers going through a lag phase of slow growth at first. Once it reaches a foothold population it will go through a rapid growth rate that will start to level off once the species approaches carrying capacity. The idea of maximum sustained yield is to decrease population density to the point of highest growth rate possible. This changes the number of the population, but the new number can be maintained indefinitely, ideally. MSY is extensively used for fisheries management. MSY in most modern fisheries models occurs at around 30% of the unexploited population size. This fraction differs among populations depending on the life history of the species and the age specific selectivity of the fishing method. However, the approach has been widely criticized as ignoring several key factors involved in fisheries management and has led to the devastating collapse of many fisheries. As a simple calculation, it ignores the size and age of the animal being taken, its reproductive status, and it focuses solely on the species in question, ignoring the damage to the ecosystem caused by the designated level of exploitation and the issue of by catch. • 16. The Idea Of Women And Men Use Language Differently Discuss the idea that Women and Men use Language differently. The data on Table 1 shows that the men in the meeting had more turns but there was an exception (woman D) and the men in the meeting generally spoke for longer per turn but again there was an exception (woman B). Additionally men also interrupted more (except for man E), and men were interrupted more except Man E and Man I, therefore there is no significant pattern in terms of which gender was interrupted more. Robin Lakoff found that women s language lacks authority when compared to that used by men and she believes that women use many techniques in their speech that are deficient to men s speech. In the Deficit Model Robin Lakoff describes male language as stronger, more prestigious and more desirable. She argues that women are socialised into behaving like ladies . She gives examples of language techniques women use that make their language seem deficient these include, fillers, hedges e.g. sort of , you know , intensifiers e.g. so , weak expletive terms e.g. oh dear , empty adjectives e.g. charming, sweet, hypercorrect grammar and tag questions which shows uncertainty e.g. isn t it? Moreover she interprets that women use more precise colour terms e.g. mauve, magneta. I agree that women use these techniques but they don t make women deficient to men. For example, the use of intensifiers if someone says This chocolate is very tasty and another says This chocolate is tasty . This doesn t make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Effects Of Imperialism On The Indian Economy Effects of Imperialism to the Indian Economy In 2015 India was ranked among the highest countries globally in consumer confidence, this comes after the International Monetary Fund estimated an economic growth of up to 7% annually for the next decade in India. But this hasn t always been the case, in fact, it wasn t so long ago that Indiawas simply another colonized nation around the world, not to mention it s usually rare to see this kind of economic growth in such a small period of time. The Effects of globalization, with an emphasis on open trade networks, and the Imperial developments of the late 19th century have led to the emergence and rise of India s market based economy. This growth has been affected in a very positive way over a span of centuries by a combination of stronger economic developments brought about by a massive increase in the countries labor force and the emphasis on education and self governance. An exposure to both the Western economic systems during the imperial age until their independence in 1947 and their subsequent involvement in the Asian, Middle Eastern and African trade routes from the late 15th century placed India in an economic equilibrium where they were able to benefit from both worlds and become one of the fastest growing economies. The global economic depression of the 1930 s combined with the two world wars was crucial in establishing early seeds of economic development in India. During the global ... If a person has no source of income, no provide food, have shelter, and pay bills this causes stress. The health disparities in this video are from the employees being laid off, more ER visit was made from the stress which causes chronic diseases to form. The employees had to watch their expenses and buy cheaper food or find another way to work but for lower income. What is the job status of all employees that got laid off? Did the employees find other work? Did they have to settle for a lower income job? Some of their programs consist of employment fairs now, the unemployment checks, and in the video if they were going to school they received more money. Place Matters In this video where you live at is very important for access to healthy foods and to have a clean environment. There are very few Absolutists, which are people who believe one hundred percent with a certain groups believes, in America. • 20. Wallace Stevens Poem The Death of a Soldier and William... Read Wallace Stevens poem The Death of a Soldier and E.E. Cummings poem my sweet old etcetera in your textbook, Select Writers of the Twentieth Century. Select either poem and analyze the view of war in the poem with the view of war in Faulkner s story Two Soldiers. The essay should be well developed and well supported with the texts. Wallace Stevens The Death of a Soldier honors the common, unremarkable death of an ordinary soldier. War is portrayed as inevitable in the Stevens poem, like the seasons. As in a season of autumn. / The soldier falls. The soldier is portrayed as acting like a leaf, falling to the ground. Unlike a famous general, there is no pomp and circumstance to the soldier s death, no memorial or extensive period of mourning. Metaphors of the natural world also used to describe the soldier include the wind ceasing to blow. Without dwelling upon the reasons for warfare and the injustices of war, Stevens makes it seem as if there is nothing humans can do to prevent the carnage caused by war. Humans are, in effect, caught in the state s machinery of power that is bigger than the individual will. This sense of war s inevitability is also present in Faulkner s short story Two Soldiers, in which the unnamed narrator idealizes his brother Pete. Unlike the Stevens poem, the short story is about a specific war and a specific family. The older brother, Pete, does not have a romantic view of war but he must surrender to the state s need that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fossil Fuels Are Bad For Our Environment Fossil fuels are bad for our environment, and in a economy that is struggling, there is no point in pouring billions of dollars a year into an energy source that is killing our other resources. This kind of spending and reckless destruction of our environment will eventually have to stop. The question is, when it does what will we do? There are many other forms of alternative energy that are accessible to us right now. These energy sources will eventually have to be used in the place of burning fossil fuels to power our world. People have become so accustomed to the idea that burning fossil fuels is okay because that s how it has always been . Even as I am writing this, and researching why it has to stop, I am not in a panic because these warnings about our planets future health have been preached to me for a long time. Someday, though, we won t have a choice to ignore this issue any longer. The limiting factor on humans fossil fueluse will not be the exhaustion of economically recoverable fossil fuels, but the exhaustion of the Earth s capacity to withstand the harmful byproducts of fossil fuel combustion. Jeffrey Rissman. Rissman believes, like I do, that there will come a time that burning fossil fuels won t be an option. When this time comes solar energy is the way to turn. To help make her wish come true, her six member family takes a road trip from Albuquerque to Redondo Beach, California. At the conclusion of the film, Olive and her family learned to trust and support each other, no matter the situation. Olive is the youngest member of her family who is entering middle childhood and adolescencejust like her older brother Dwayne. Olive is the type of girl that is cheerful, most of the time and not particularly the kind you would see in a pageant. Olive s brother, Dwayne, could be described as emo . Although he claims that he hates his family, he loves his sister, Olive. Their parents, Richard and Sheryl, and their Uncle Frank are in the process of entering middle adulthood. Throughout most of the film, Richard is considered selfish because he does not want his family to be seen as losers . Richard is obnoxious to his family, but he still means well and wants them to succeed. Sheryl is the normal member of the family who does not tolerate anyone s antics. Uncle Frank is very sarcastic and failed at his attempt to commit suicide. He used to be a college professor, so he is considered the smart guy. The sixth member of Olive s family, her grandpa, dies during the movie due to an overdose, but was entering the late adulthood stage. The members of Olive s family share some similarities and differences, but since they all vary in age, developmental concepts will be different in a way for each family member. Olive is seven which means she is approaching adolescence while Dwayne is currently going through adolescence. Typically, females ages eight to fourteen go through pubertal changes while males go through it between ages nine to fifteen. The difference in age does not have to do with maturity as much as it does the brain. Corrosion Resistance Of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer Contents Abstract2 Introduction2 Corrosion3 Deflections5 Thermal7 Timber Bridges11 Reference13 Abstract: Advancement in recent years on the efficiency of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) in production and cost benefits have increased their use as alternative means to steel rebar in bridge deck bases. The purpose in applying rebar is to increase the tensile strength of concrete. Considering the versatility of bridges there are many factors that need to be analyzed when choosing whether to use steel rebar or GFRP material such as: cost, tensile strength, and weather resistance. Stress strain graphs were calculated, graphed, and analyzed to determine the yield tensile strength and stiffness of steel rebar and GFRP. Data collected from alkaline bath tests were graphed and analyzed to determine the thermal and corrosion resistance of each material. Costs per square inch of each material were also compared as well as each materials quality and life expectancy. The results of the conducted test analysis found the GFRP to have greater thermal resistance, lower cost, and higher life expectancy than the steel rebar, however the steel rebar s stiffness was found to be about six times larger than the GFRP s. These results suggest that the advancements in GFRP can provide longer lasting bridge structures and will change the future of construction and restoration of bridges. When the Netherlands was being invaded by the Germans the Dutch Cabinet and the Queen fled to England. Therefore, after the occupation, the Germans could install in contrast to other occupied countries a Pro German Civilian Government, led by the Austrian Arthur Seyss Inquart. He had the full control over all the civil servants in the Netherlands and could therefore easily implement new anti Jewish policies. One of his first policies was to establish a Jewish Council with the purpose to control the Jews and unnoticeably strip them away of their rights. It is used internationally for the early detection of acute myocardial infarction and arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation [1]. Due to the high mortality rate of cardiovascular disease (CVD) it is of paramount importance to optimise the use of the ECG as it detects the presence of CVD. The World Health Organisation estimates this disease will kill approximately 17 million people per year [2]. Currently, the ECG is normally represented on a paper printout, which is then interpreted by human observers. Given the prevalence of mobile devices in medicine it is becoming apparent that the ECG will be interpreted using such devices in the near future [3]. Clinical interpretation of the ECG has yet to be routinely supported using mobile decision support algorithms. Helps the Middle Class to Rise The Hundred Years War was a conflict between England and France that lasted (with some interruptions) from 1337 to 1453 ( The Hundred ). Although the war caused many significant changes in both England and France, one of the most interesting ones was its contribution to the end of feudalism and the development of a true middle class in England. The Hundred Years War helped the middle class to rise by reducing the number of available workers in the population, exposing ordinary soldiers to the crossbow, and assisting in the formation of overseas trade partnerships. One of the most obvious ways that the Hundred Years War helped the Middle Class to rise was that it did away with surplus workers. Although it is impossible to calculate exactly how many people were killed during the war, during the years of the most intense fighting as many as 200,000 men a year may have been killed (Blackmon 225). Later that day, I met up with her at the carnival. She embraced me in the biggest hug when I saw her. I had not seen her in quite a while. We began walking around, talking and catching up. She pointed to the giant ferris wheel, Lets go! I stopped in my tracks. I was a little scared because I have a big fear of heights. She insisted I go with her. Sure, why not? I said. We waited in line which did not take very long. We stepped onto the ferris wheel, as the man closed the door behind us, it began to turn pretty quick. We got to the top of the ferris wheel and all of a sudden, it stopped. I looked over at Clara. She had a worried look on her face. I didn t want to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Refrigerator Mother Theory Refrigerator Mother Theory. Initially, Leo Kanner (1943), a child psychiatrist at the Johns Hopkins University, introduced the term early infantile autism in 1943. He considered that the refrigerator mother triggered early infantile autism. In other words, he believed that the autism was developed after the birth, and lack of parental warmth triggered children to become isolated from the society. Consequently, those children who did not receive enough care exhibited autistic like feature, meaning alone or self in Greek. Furthermore, this idea was strongly supported by Bruno Bettelheim, Austrian born American child psychiatrist, for two decades. He similarly claims that the autismwas caused from mother withheld appropriate affection toward their children and failed to make a good connection with them during infancy (Bettelheim, 2010). Moreover, he states that weak or absent father would likely cause autism, since children would not receive enough paternal love. In both cases, psychiatrists in mid twentieth century believed that the autism was developed from children not receiving enough love, warmth and care from their parents. Moreover, they believed that good parenting could alleviate children from becoming ASD. Autism and Vaccination. Another postnatal theory is a vaccination theory. Andrew Wakefield published an article in the medical journal, Lancelot, reporting that the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine would trigger the autism spectrum disorder (Godlee, ... • 45. The Budget Of The NASA Budget In the 2017 fiscal year (Oct. 2016 Sept. 2017), the budget for NASA was 19 billion US dollars [1]. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only 10% of the budget is going to go to space technology because even though there is still a need to continue developing technologies for space, it does not need the same funds as other sections, and without any large space missions in the near future it is not as pressing as other categories like science, exploration, and space operations. The third category is exploration which will receive 27% of the budget. The exploration budget will go to projects like space transportation systems and human missions to the moon and mars. Projects such as these require a large portion of the budget due to their expensive nature, but despite the cost, these missions gain public support. Without such missions, the public would not have supported the United States spending billions of dollars on scientific research. Additionally, these missions help gain an understanding of the universe. The fourth category is Aeronautics which will receive 7% of the budget. Aeronautic projects would include new aircraft and new air traffic control systems. This category is similar to space technology where there still needs to be research in the field but it does not require as much money as other parts of NASA. Also, there are more companies in the private sector of aeronautic that will be researching similar topics. Therefore to save money for different products aeronautics received the lowest part of the budget. Lastly, space operations will receive 26% of the budget. Space ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
